Abstract:
The purpose of the article is to reveal the interdisciplinary potential of neoplasticism in the context of designing practice study of one of the brightest representatives of the De Stijl group — Thomas Gerrit Rietveld. The following methods were used to study the issue status: a comprehensive historical, cultural and stylistic analysis for consideration of Rietveld’s designing practice within actual social and cultural development trends of European society at that time; chronological analysis and synthesis — to generalize historical and cultural issues and art transformations in the designing practice of T. G. Rietveld; analytically systematic — to systematize the results of the research issue. The scientific novelty of the work lies in revealing the interdisciplinary nature of neoplasticism, highlighting the main milestones of this multifaceted development in terms of designing practice of Thomas Gerrit Rietveld, as this side is insufficiently disclosed in the educational and professional literature on design. It is the aspect that is still insufficiently covered in the educational and professional literature on art and design. Conclusions. Transformation of neoplasticism into an interdisciplinary was impossible without the designing practice of Thomas Gerrit Rietveld. He was one of the first to transform the visual qualities of neoplasticism into three-dimensional, which manifested itself in many innovative design objects and architectural structures. Starting with the Rietveld Schröder House, 1924, and throughout the designing practice, G. Rietveld experimented with materials, structures and technologies, developing individual design solutions for each individual case in design and architecture. As for the visual perception of these objects, the graphic expression of neoplasticism has found a new three-dimensional reflection in them. Adding depth, perspective, and different planes of disclosure has transformed neoplastic art into neoplastic design and architecture. Even today, these projects, and some of them almost centuries-old, still have a contemporary look and innovative significance, which inspires artists from different countries and different creative fields to complement the achievements of design and art culture with their own “neoplastic” solutions.

Abstract:
This paper explores different perspectives on the concept of place. It deals with questions that arose from this subject during my practice as a visual art student at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. Accordingly this text can be read as a theoretical and literary inquiry, investigating those questions which I see myself confronted with in my artistic practice. It starts with an attempt to clarify ideas that have been formed by thought and theory until now about the content of this subject. Subsequently it has been my intention to introduce ideas about the impossibility and the desire of inhabiting an empty place, ideas about the role of invisibility and absence. For maybe the empty place resists any attempt to understand it, even the conception of it being a place, and becomes a dimension of absence.
