Resumo Parte da narrativa sobre as comemorações em torno dos 500 anos de nascimento de Conrad Gesner (1516-1565), com ênfase nas experiências vividas no International Congress Conrad Gessner, realizado em junho de 2016 em Zurique, Suíça. No contexto deste fórum de especialistas, identifica o perfil dos Estudos Gesnerianos, com destaque para as pesquisas ligadas à faceta bibliográfica do polímata suíço. A partir das celebrações de 2016, realiza um percurso histórico-retrospectivo ao Séc. XVI para situar e discutir, de forma preliminar, dois aspectos subjacentes ao gesto bibliográfico Gesneriano: método e implicações epistemológicas. Conclui que dimensão histórico-interpretativa da informação, que perpassa pelo gesto e método bibliográfico Gesneriano, não pode ser negligenciada para uma compreensão retrospectiva, crítica e ao mesmo tempo atual do campo informacional.

Abstract:

O trabalho propõe o estudo da Bibliotheca Universalis de Conrad Gesner através da tipologia de fontes de informação utilizadas pelo autor em sua composição e de sua representatividade bibliográfica em relação à cultura escrita disponível na época. Com base nisso, propõe medir o grau de ‘universalidade’ da obra na perspectiva da meta desejada e dos instrumentos a sua disposição. Para isso, se elabora um percurso de revisão das fontes utilizadas por Gesner, que variam entre catálogos editoriais, catálogos de bibliotecas e, ainda, bibliografias propriamente ditas, fontes obtidas, na maioria das vezes, ao longo de viagens realizadas pelo autor. Se destaca assim, na reconstituição desse percurso de pesquisa de Gesner, a atualidade de seu projeto bibliográfico, fundamentado no princípio de registrar o patrimônio escrito, de classificá-lo e identificar aquilo que ainda precisava se tornar público. Desenvolve-se, ainda, uma discussão que visa mostrar afinidades e paralelismos entre as necessidades de uma construção ‘semântica’ da informação nos nossos tempos e a atualidade do Método Gesneriano para tanto.

Abstract:

The study of the evolution of abiotic niches can be informative regarding the speciation drivers in a given group. Yet, two factors that could potentially affect niche evolution have seldom been addressed concomitantly, which are biotic interactions and geographical isolation. In this study, we used as a model group the Antillean plant genera Gesneria and Rhytidophyllum (Gesneriaceae) to evaluate the effect of pollinators and geographical isolation on the bioclimatic niche. These genera possess species characterized by interspecific geographical isolation in different islands and are pollinated by different pollinators. Some species are pollinated by hummingbirds, other by bats, while some are more generalists and are pollinated by pollinators from both functional groups. After describing the bioclimatic niches of plant species, we measured niche overlap for species pairs and we fitted Brownian motion and Ornstein–Uhlenbeck (OU) evolution models with multiple evolutionary regimes to test for an effect of pollination strategy or geographical isolation on bioclimatic niche evolution of these plants. The analysis of niche overlap between plant species, which could not be corrected for phylogenetic relationships, showed that it was significantly influenced by pollination mode and island distribution. By contrast, the best fitting evolutionary model on niche optima and tolerance was always an OU model with a unique selective regime, suggesting that neither pollination strategy nor island isolation had an important effect on bioclimatic niches at a macroevolutionary scale. Instead, we conclude that bioclimatic niches of Antillean Gesneriaceae evolved under phylogenetic conservatism and hypothesize that this macroevolutionary pattern could result from adaptation to temporally variable climates in the Antilles.

Abstract:

Introdução: Trata-se da primeira parte do estudo sobre De indicibus librorum - seção integrante das Pandectae (1548) de Conrad Gesner (1516-1565) - que versa sobre constituição, função e uso de índices. Objetivo: Identificar o contexto e princípios que norteiam De indicibus librorum. Metodologia: Sob abordagem histórico-bibliográfica, o estudo tem como percurso: 1) breve contextualização histórico-informacional e documental de De indicibus librorum; 2) mapeamento, leitura e tradução integral do texto latino (para Parte I do estudo, especificamente a tradução do fólio 19v (d) ao fólio 21r (d3)); 3) discussão e combinação da fonte latina com a revisão de literatura acerca do tema, sobretudo a partir de Wellisch (1981), Cochetti (1984a,1984b) e Serrai (1990). Resultados: Com base no recorte estabelecido e no intervalo de fólios analisados, o texto gesneriano apresenta as motivações, procedimentos e técnicas para composição de índices de livros por meio de “tiras” de papel e, como afirmado por Gesner, em “pouco tempo” e na “melhor ordem”. Gesner rememora índices de filósofos, teólogos, gramáticos, filólogos e escritores, além de mencionar índices de tipógrafos e livreiros. Também evidencia os índices como instrumento de planejamento e controle patrimonial e bibliográfico. Para o polímata suíço, os índices possuem grande utilidade aos estudiosos, pois ajudam a recordar as coisas lidas ou apresentar coisas novas, além de poupar o tempo do leitor. Conclusões: Conrad Gesner, ao apresentar uma paisagem técnica e cultural sobre a constituição, função e uso dos índices, tece críticas fundamentais em relação à indicialização, a exemplo da construção de índices sem a leitura prévia do texto, o que hoje representaria uma perspectiva oposta daquela postulada pela leitura documentária para fins de indexação. Ao mesmo tempo, Gesner destaca a importância dos índices semânticos, questão também relevante ao campo da indexação contemporânea. Neste sentido, Gesner efetivamente foi um “indexador” ao seu tempo. A sua posição, seja enquanto editor de obras e/ou como leitor, ou seja, tanto daquele que constrói quanto daquele que utiliza os índices, lhe permitiu formular uma visão multidimensional acerca do processo de indicialização e, subliminarmente, dos processos de mediação da informação e organização do conhecimento no Séc. XVI.

Segunda parte do estudo sobre De indicibus librorum - seção constituinte das Pandectae (1548) de Conrad Gesner (1516-1565) - que trata da constituição, função e uso de índices. O objetivo do trabalho é ilustrar e demonstrar a aplicação da indicilização gesneriana. A partir do tratamento histórico-bibliográfico, o estudo tem como trajeto: 1) leitura e tradução integral de De indicibus librorum (para Parte II do estudo, especificamente a tradução do fólio 21r (d3) ao fólio 22v (d4)); 2) mapeamento de alguns dos índices presentes nas Pandectae (1548, 1549); 3) discussão e combinação da fonte latina com a revisão de literatura sobre o tema, com base em Wellisch (1981), Cochetti (1984a, 1984b) e Serrai (1990). A última parte de De indicibus librorum é dedicada aos índices de bibliotecas enquanto dispositivos de ordenação e controle inventarial. Gesner, além de mencionar índices que foram empregados para preparação de Bibliotheca Universalis (1545), versa, com base no método pellikano para elaboração de índices, sobre os critérios e a estrutura dessas ferramentas. Os índices presentes nas Pandectae (1548, 1549) são refinados em função de sua composição (conexão entre termos e números dos fólios) e delineamento lógico. Em sua totalidade (fólio 19v (d) ao fólio 22v (d4)), De indicibus librorum é fonte relevante para história, teoria, prática e arte da indicialização e, igualmente, para história da organização da informação e do conhecimento no Séc. XVI. Simultaneamente, o conjunto de argumentos apresentados por Gesner antecipa e comprova, com efeito, a configuração teórico-aplicada e técnico-indicial que veio a assumir a Bibliografia como disciplina.

Abstract:

A Imprensa teve como um dos seus mais significativos impactos a vasta, intensa e acelerada produção de bibliografias, como meios de registro, organização, seleção, disponibilização e mediação de documentos. Entre as inúmeras conseqüências da Imprensa está a necessidade de se operar a chamada explosão informacional - fenômeno investigado, do ponto de vista histórico-cultural, por autores como Peter Burke e Ann Blair. A partir desta paisagem, o artigo busca estabelecer relações entre o contexto histórico-informacional da Europa Moderna e Bibliotheca Universalis, de Conrad Gesner (Séc. XVI). Bibliotheca arrola aspectos da cultura manuscrita e impressa e traz implicitamente uma profunda reflexão descritiva e semântica sobre os documentos e os saberes, conforme se evidencia nos estudos de Alfredo Serrai e Fiammetta Sabba. O “gesto bibliográfico” gesneriano é mais do que uma resposta a confusa et noxia illa librorum multitude (“confusa e irritante multidão de livros”, que hoje nos remete ao sentido da denominada information overload): é a força que arquiteta a própria Bibliografia enquanto disciplina.

Abstract:

The field of Gesnerian studies is still to a large extent underdeveloped. This statement sums up in a nutshell the state of research on the body of work of the Zurich physician. Yet, no place for pessimism in this succinct conclusion: in what follows we trace some major tendencies and developments in the study of the Gesnerian corpus. On the whole, it is mostly his illustrations that have drawn scholars’ attention, providing interesting perspectives on art his¬tory and the representation of nature in the 16th century, as well as, through the study of the circulation of images, on the scholarly networks and knowl¬edge communication in the Renaissance. The second part of this article builds on concrete examples to provide possible perspectives on the paratext of Historia animalium, and on the various additions made to it by its author. In conclusion, it appears that numerous aspects of the Renaissance percep¬tion of nature remain unexplored, but also that a reading that makes use of precise lexicological and statistical tools is necessary and promising. This conclusion is positive and seeks to highlight the network established between scholars from different domains of the humanities, and also the technical means available at present, which open new possibilities for comparison, exchange and collating of research information.

Abstract:

AbstractThis study was aimed to explore the composition and diurnal variation analyses of floral scent emission from Rosa rugosa Thunb. and Tulipa gesneriana L. The floral scent from the fresh flower were collected at different time points (9:00, 12:00, 15:00, 18:00, and 21:00) using dynamic headspace collection and were analyzed using autothermal desorber-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (ATD-GC/MS). The results showed that a total of 62 volatile flavor compounds were detected from Rosa rugosa Thunb and a total of 70 volatile flavor compounds were detected from Tulipa gesneriana L. They were identified with eight functional categories: alcohols, fatty hydrocarbons, terpenes, aldehydes, ketones, esters, and other substances. The total release amount first decreased, and then increased with time, and arrived at the lowest at 15:00. The release amounts of different categories present distinct change patterns. Among the components, phenylethyl alcohol, citronellol, methylene chloride, hexane, and acetone showed relatively higher release amounts and were thought as the main components in floral scent of Rosa rugosa Thunb. Alpha-Farnesene, ethanol, pentadecane, beta-ocimene, longifolene, caryophyllene, and acetone showed relatively higher release amounts and were thought as the main components in floral scent of Tulipa gesneriana L. Research of roses and tulips in aromatic in the garden provides a theoretical basis and research and improvement of the aroma components of aroma.

Objetivo: Mapear, apresentar e discutir a concepção, dimensão e estrutura documentária de Bibliotheca Universalis (1545), de Conrad Gesner (1516-1565), a partir de seu prefácio, denominado Epistola Nuncupatoria. Método: Sob o horizonte histórico-bibliográfico, o estudo se desenvolve por meio: 1) da leitura e tradução integral de Epistola Nuncupatoria, que ocupa o intervalo entre os fólios 2r e [7r] de Bibliotheca Universalis ; 2) da relação do texto latino da Epistola com os estudos bibliográficos gesnerianos, notadamente Serrai (1990) e Sabba (2012). Resultado: Em Epistola Nuncupatoria, Conrad Gesner expõe a concepção, dimensão e estrutura documentária de Bibliotheca Universalis (1545), uma vez que sobreleva: 1) seu alcance e objetivos; 2) seu uso por parte dos leitores; 3) perdas e destruições bibliográficas; 4) dinâmicas de produção e circulação de impressos; 5) abrangência autoral; 6) ordenação de suas fontes; 7) notícias sobre as bibliotecas pesquisadas; 8) tipologia e cobertura das fontes adotadas para sua composição. O repertório bibliográfico resulta de um longo esforço e dedicação individual, mas Gesner enfatiza que abriu caminho para que outros estudiosos pudessem transmitir os livros para a posteridade – desejo este que consolida-se nos Epitomi de Bibliotheca Universalis. Conclusões: Compreendida e lida como um conjunto de argumentos mediadores e memorialísticos, Epistola Nuncupatoria forma um rico corpus que manifesta e sintetiza a reflexão e a autoconsciência de Conrad Gesner sobre seus métodos de trabalho que, a rigor, formam o substrato do gesto e do método bibliográfico.

Abstract:

Abstract—A new gesneriad species, Didymocarpus vickifunkiae is described here from the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot. The new species is morphologically similar to D. aureoglandulosus, but differs from it in having a corolla tube with indumentum, eglandular and ovate to oblanceolate bracteoles, slightly broader calyx lobes, and a bearded anther. We provide a detailed morphological description of the newly described species along with images and compare it with species that are morphologically similar to it. Here, we also lectotypify D. aureoglandulosus and provide a brief history on its collection and taxonomy. Finally, we provide a dichotomous identification key for all the Didymocarpus species from Mizoram, India.

Abstract:

Hyacinthoides hispanica (Mill.) Roth., Hyacinthus orientalis L. `Gypsy Queen', Narcissus pseudonarcissus L. `Music Hall', N. pseudonarcissus `Tahiti', Tulipa gesneriana L. `Couleur Cardinal', and T. gesneriana `White Emperor' bulbs were given 0 or 6 weeks of preplant 5 °C cold treatment and planted 15, 30, or 45 cm deep into raised ground beds under 0%, 30%, or 60% shade. Plant growth was monitored for 2 years after planting. Preplant 5 °C cold pretreatment reduced percentage of Tulipa `White Emperor' bulbs that flowered but did not affect the percentage of bulbs that flowered for the other species. Cold pretreatment also delayed anthesis in one or both years for all cultivars except Hyacinthoides hispanica. The greatest percentage of bulbs flowered when planted 15 cm deep. The 45-cm planting depth reduced bulb flowering percentage or eliminated plant emergence. Increasing planting depth increased days to anthesis for all cultivars in both years. Increasing shade increased stem lengths in year 2 for all cultivars except Hyacinthoides hispanica, but did not influence percentage of bulbs flowering for any cultivars. For all cultivars perennialization was low regardless of treatment as less than 30% of bulbs survived to the 2nd year.

The metabolism in vitro of [1-14C]linoleate, [1-14C]linolenate and their 9(S)-hydroperoxides in tulip (Tulipa gesneriana) was found to be under the control of 9-lipoxygenase and allene oxide synthase, and directed towards α-ketol, γ-ketol and the novel compound (12Z)-10-oxo-11-hydroxy- 12-octadecadienoic acid (10,11-ketol). Potent activity of allene oxide cyclase (in bulbs) and a new enzyme, γ-ketol reductase (in bulbs and leaves), was detected. Metabolism in flowers is directed predominantly towards α-ketol hydroperoxide.

Abstract The article argues that ‘gentle tourism’ in particular shares similarities with the idyll. The term made popular by Robert Jungk in 1980 describes an autonomous kind of tourism that considers ecological and economical questions alike. It derives – thus the thesis of the article – its motifs from a subgenre of the idyll: German ‘Landlebendichtung’ (laus ruris). The analyses of the paradigmatic texts Das Landleben by Ewald von Kleist and Salomon Gesner’s Der Wunsch outline the characteristics of the genre at which core one can find the binary opposition of urban and rural forms of life.

<p><strong>Introdução</strong>: A Bibliografia é uma disciplina constituída por interfaces teóricas e práticas que, desde sua origem, têm fundamentado o tratamento documental. Possui uma longa história, cuja eminência está nas contribuições do cientista, erudito e bibliógrafo suíço, Conrad Gesner (1516-1565), e na sua obra <em>Bibliotheca Universalis</em>.</p><p><strong>Objetivo</strong>: 1) identificar as interfaces da Bibliografia, em particular a bibliotecária e material; 2) recuperar elementos constitutivos da cultura bibliográfica; 3) delinear o perfil biobibliográfico de Conrad Gesner; 4) identificar, de forma sumária, aspectos bibliográficos de <em>Bibliotheca Universalis</em>, do ponto de vista descritivo e semântico e 5) discutir seu sentido como dispositivo de mediação e memória bibliográfica.</p><p><strong>Metodologia</strong>: Revisão de literatura a partir da perspectiva histórica.</p><p><strong>Resultados:</strong> Gesner é um dos mais notáveis cientistas do período moderno, além de ser considerado o “pai da Bibliografia” e fundador da disciplina bibliográfica. Com <em>Bibliotheca Universalis, </em>delineou as práticas bibliográficas da Europa Moderna.</p><strong>Conclusões</strong>: <em>Bibliotheca Universalis</em> é mais do que um produto cultural e documentário: arrola aspectos da cultura manuscrita e impressa e traz implicitamente uma profunda reflexão descritiva e semântica sobre os documentos e os saberes. Tais aspectos não só contribuem à configuração histórica e conceitual da Bibliografia enquanto disciplina, mas, sobretudo, evidenciam o pioneirismo bibliográfico do polímeta do Séc. XVI.

The genus Gloxinia (Gesneriaceae, Gesnerieae, Gloxiniinae) comprises four species distributed from Nicaragua to Argentina. Historically, Koellikeria major has been problematic to place taxonomically due to the morphological similarity with Gloxinia erinoides, and as a result is currently treated as a synonym. Here, we present a molecular phylogenetic and morphological study that allowed us to demonstrate that Koellikeria major is distinct from G. erinoides. As a result, we formally transfer Koellikeria major to Gloxinia major. Here G. major is described, illustrated, and compared to morphologically similar species. Data on its distribution, habitat, and taxonomic treatment are provided.
