Galateau, Estelle-Fleur. "Les conditions sociales de l’adoption de comportements plus durables en matière de consommation et de gestion des déchets : analyse sociologique d’un dispositif de démocratie participative et des théories d’action en sciences humaines et sociales." Thesis, Paris 5, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA05H005/document.
Full textThe aim of this research is to analyze the processes established to modify behaviors and make them more sustainable, in everyday practices of consumption and waste management. We want to know whether the currently recognized values alone are explanatory of changing behaviors, and whether there are strong constraints involved in adopting more sustainable practices. In view of the current concern with environmental issues, we studied a procedure in participatory democracy designed to change participants’ behavior. Secondly, we analyzed current theories in social sciences in order to identify forces other than this political one. The research shows that participatory democracy results from intellectual actors or idealistic activists, who try to solve problems of political legitimacy, trust, and efficiency. But their idealism, which sparks the start of the action, faces strong constraints, requires adjustments to their ideal. These adjustments explain why changes of behavior are limited, which may discourage pioneers and activists, or alter the imaginary of "eco-Fascists", utopians, or authoritarians. In analyzing the theories of action in social sciences, we also observed the importance of scales of observation: the micro-Individual level and micro-Social level (in particular domestic space and practices) cannot be analyzed alone. They are embedded in the meso- and macro-Social levels, which highlight eigenvalues and the effects of membership and social regulation in daily practices

Full textThis thesis provides us with relevant factors which served as predictions of intentions used through Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) in the air transport sector in Tunisia. The introduction of such type of package implies changes in work's organizations and employees' apprehensions since it is to be considered as a complex process. The first empirical objective of this work is to pinpoint respectively the main role of the sense of self-efficacy, the perceived behavioral control and subjective workload in choosing adoption of such packages (study 1). The results indicate that interrelatedness is well marked and therefore, it has a significant influence in the use of the ERP. Both computer's self-efficiency and experienced self-control lead to a direct or indirect use of ERP through the perceived utility and relative usability of the package. Whereas, the subjective aspect of the workload go against a good use this tool. The components of subjective workload (mental workload, temporal workload, asked efforts, performance's level and frustration) have considerable effect in the formation of good willingness for the use of such software. This experienced negative effect stems its origins from the employee's frustration when using an ERP system. The study of different forms of frustration (Study 2) suggests that a greater impact is to be recorded, and then, a feeling of discouragement is far to be dismissed and it can be considered as more important than the perceived stress related with usability of the ERP. The present thesis has two layers of research: the first is a kind of theoretical contribution on the role of emotional determinants on the intentional use of ERP systems and the second is a practical contribution since it paves the way to a rethinking of the decisional invest in the implementation of such a package's in-put and therefore it mainstreams the effort of educators in the aim to reduce the subjective burden among employees during an actual and efficient use of the tool

Full textThe Bamileke society of Western Cameroon, marked by a hierarchical social structure based on customary references in the course of evolution, is crossed by conflicts that can be identified in social relations. These tensions crystallize on the occasion of ceremonies such as the mourning of a commoner, field of the observations of this thesis. The sociological and ethnological analysis of these conflicts and the modalities of their practical management, with a view to the unfolding of mourning ceremonies in its entirety, mobilizing the theoretical tools of negotiation and social transactions in the permanent elaboration of compromises, what this work analyses throughout the grieving process. The empirical sources and methods crossed with the theoretical references show that, relatives of the deceased, in terms of sets of actors and in relation to different frame of constraints (customary, socio-economic, temporal...) organize themselves to manage conflicts through negotiation or transactions dynamics that always lead to relative and temporary compromises. At first marked by the time of mourning, these compromises participate more widely in the local recomposition of social relations and the relationship between tradition and modernity in Bamileke society

Full textPsychic suffering and psychic disorganisation frequently observed in the case of long-term unemployed people make it possible to identify by default the functions usually kept untold by the occupational activity for the person's psychological stability. They also lead to questioning oneself about the possibility of reconstructing a psychological stability in the absence of the anaclitic object which is essential for the building and the maintenance of ego-related processes, whether these processes are defensive, narcissistic or elaborative. This reconstruction is analysed, using the psychoanalytic theoretical corpus, as being a work of mourning made particularly difficult by the convergence of unfavourable conditions: - conditions specific to the nature of the object-work relationship, - conditions inherent in the environmental support and in the form of the Ego of an unemployed person. The study mainly insists on the exclusive nature of the relationship to the occupational activity ; this exclusiveness results from the centralisation of work in our society and from its marks on our socialisation processes. It moreover highlights the strengthening of the exclusiveness through integration mechanisms which, by idealising employment, place the unemployed in the heart of paradoxical constraints opposing to the work of mourning. It finally analyses the psychological solutions found in order to get over the crisis in spite of this unfavourable context. Unemployment then appears as an occasion for psychic maturation : the subject succeeds in transferring the functions earlier held by the object-work to new activities and, thanks to this transfer, has a greater mobility in relation to the anaclitic objects. The modelization herein described makes it possible to question oneself about the support measures meant for the long-term unemployed people and which are in favour of this evolution

Full textIn recent years, following a period during which suffering occupied a predominant space as a category shaping French public debate, new words have begun to move to the fore when it comes to denouncing workplace ills. Fatigue, stress, burn out, and phsycho-social risks are examples of new categories used today to name worker-experienced harm. While public debate over worker suffering is regularly revisited, the question of the origin of this new repertoire of concepts is problematic. Do these words really reflect the social conditions in which people work? What is at stake discursively and epistemologically when these concepts are used ? To answer these questions, this thesis endeavors to analyze the genealogy of the semantic repertoire of workplace suffering, by bringing particular focus upon the social trajectories of the people who promoted some of its different constituent concepts. By identifying some of the different possible historical and epistemological causes of this repertoire, this thesis offers new methodological and theoretical tools to stabilize and harmonize our commun thinking about work. In this way, it also helps shed light upon the conditions under which a peculiarly sociological approach to work, along with a more general social-science approach, have been able to emerge

Full textThis research discusses the tools of land use conflict analysis and methods for their prevention and management, on the basis of existing conflicts created by infrastructural projects in developing countries. Such conflicts have entailed expropriation of homes, farm businesses and other productive resources in rural settings. Specifically, we use data from the case of Chotiari water reservoir project in Pakistan, where we put stress on project impacts on socio-economic and natural resource values in the region, by highlighting root causes of the conflicts with response to land use decision. We also paid attention on the network of actors over land use and property right violation, which have created dissimilar power distribution and significant land use conflicts. Through this research we show that conflicts created by the project have resulted from structural factors (unilateral decision, lack of technical and scientific investigation, corruption, international interest, and non-existence of national resettlement policy) and proximate factors (nepotism, ethnic diversity/disarray, and illiteracy). Moreover, forceful displacement of local population has led for multiplication of the confrontations. From these results, we provide helpful insights and information for the recommendations in terms of land use conflict prevention and management, mainly based on proximity relations analysis

Full textThe concept of stress has become an object of scientific thought, which for many years has been a popular success with the general public. So stress has become an object of common sense thinking. It is this object within the framework of the work, that we have studied in an exploratory research using a questionnaire that we have elaborated, in a psychosocial approach and Social Representations which purpose is to explore the existence of Social Representations of workplace stress in the workplace, of its variations according to sex, both in and part of the dynamics of the hierarchical relations that structure the company (upward and horizontal comparison) in a normal and substitution context, also to explore the existence of social values of work stress as well as practices considered to be most effective in coping with work-related stress, and also psychological effects according to MBI dimensions. The results we present here would reveal the existence of an organized field of representations of stress at work and also the existence of symbolic relationships between hierarchical statuses and between men and women
Ishac, Wadih. "Furthering national development through sport, the case of Qatar." Thesis, Bourgogne Franche-Comté, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018UBFCH037/document.
Full textWhen we mention international relations, we generally talk about diplomacy and investment, but there are other ways of promoting the interests of a government on the international stage. Sport can be used as tool to improve diplomacy between countries, as well as developing economic and social interests. Additionally, sport takes an important place in shaping the image of a nation, while it improves the integration process of young generations into the world. One of the main interests, from a government perspective, in the use of sport, is to generate a positive emotional connection to a host nation - what is known as soft power. The aim of this work is to explore some of the ways in which sport is used to generate this power, and how it can provide a type of control or influence. Specifically, it will focus on the State of Qatar. This work is separated to three main parts. First I present the development of sport and the way sport events were used by different countries and political regimes, and the impact generated. Second, I try to understand the impact generated from Qatar investment in the French football team Paris Saint-Germain. And third, I measured the socio-psychological impact generated on the young generation from hosting international sport events, as in the case of the Handball World championship 2015.This work sets to clarify how allowing such investment is perceived as an opportunity for development within the society, and to improve diplomacy. Additionally, focussing on the young generation allows me to study the evolution of how sport is an important tool in the process of socialization of young people into global society. Based on my research, I argue that the result of the Paris Saint-Germain investment was a "win-win" situation between France and Qatar on the social, economic, and political level. Also, using sport events generated positive emotional impact, making the residents admire the vision of the government. The young generation, regardless nationality has a positive view of government efforts to improve and develop itself - the Qatari government's vision was salient to the young generation in Qatar

Full textThis thesis, which is based on a survey of three major companies, studies the meaning that wage earners give to their work. New management policies cannot be limited to the human cost that they bring about. First, the constraints from new management are, to the workers, a source both of satisfaction and trouble ; the effects are ambivalent indeed. Besides, while such constraints make people dependent in new ways, they also cause them to develop strategies in order to resist. In this respect, by dissociating various areas of experience, one can highlight how the people involved strive to give a positive meaning to their work. Finally, as such strategies lean on the very principles of new management, they should not be mistaken for some "resistance to change"

Full textA given society’s relationship with water is contextual, based on individual and public perceptions. This research investigated how public perception has been shaped by different stakeholders in two different river systems. To do so, we compared the trajectories of the Rhône River (France) and the Sacramento River (United States) by combining field observations with a principal dataset of 5,985 newspaper articles. Because the definition of social problems occurs within public arenas, this retrospective study of newspaper coverage allowed us to evaluate exogenous and endogenous discontinuities, static and dynamic constraints, and environmental and social trajectories. Media coverage was analyzed using content, quotation, and textual data analysis as well as GIS. Conflict between values entails interaction between different arenas, mobilizes spokespeople, and consolidates power relations. The Advocacy Coalition Framework promotes the hybridization between bottom-up and top-down policies and legitimizes different processes of discussion and problem-solving. Dialog between stakeholders exists in space and time between here and elsewhere, present and past, and risk and disasters. These temporal factors were addressed with a synchronic study. During the twentieth century, the Rhône River and the Sacramento River have undergone a great number of changes, primarily due to different decisions made at the national level. Nevertheless in both basins, advocacy coalitions have been key sources of political changes for thirty years: they share a set of beliefs and act in concert to address local concerns in water policy. Finally, a more detailed case study is presented for the Rhône basin, where French law and scientific knowledge require integrated river basin management. The Rhône case study demonstrates the spatial and temporal variability of opinions, debates, and discourses about water, which often embody tensions because of conflicting demands

Full textThe government, as the administration, is responsible for public services, public affairs and administrative missions. It is, therefore, necessary to spend a great number of money consecutively. The main income of the government earned by the tax collection is not enough for its missions and the other necessary things. That’s why it had to loan more and more money from the domestic and international financial institutions. In Thailand, money has been loaned since the reign of King Rama V. After the Siamese Revolution of 1932, Thailand has incurred more public debt from the international financial institutions and foreign governments for country’s development. Public debt of Thailand and different countries has enormously increased while the notion of public debt management has also developed and the special acts on public debt management have been issued in many countries, because of the necessity of incurring public debt of several countries as well as economic crisis happened around the world. In Thailand, the Public Debt Management Act B.E. 2548 (2005) is considered as the principal law authorizing the government to incur and manage public debt in various ways for adapting to changing circumstances such as public debt incurred for social and economic development, for debt restructuring and financial transaction used for reducing the risk on public debt, etc

Full textSince Rio 1992, consultation has become an essential political and social practice. It responds to a request from citizens to participate in public debate, decision-making, local management and the city's factory. Consultation, which has become regulatory and brings together a plurality of actors, is the place and time when issues of governance, territorial management and urban sustainability are at stake. The thesis seeks to answer the following questions: to what extent are governance processes, put into practice through consultation and resulting from environmental public policies, effective in territorial planning strategies ? How to measure the effects of these processes? What roles do these processes play in the development of land-use patterns? The scientific approach used was based on observation of consultation meetings. The surveys were carried out in the territories of the Greater Paris Metropolis, which is changing as a result of the metropolization of the territory and the application of the principles of urban sustainability. The survey made it possible to compare the representations of the in habitants and those of the project leaders with regard to the evaluation of participation, the objects that make up the territory and the spatial representations. This confrontation of representations highlights the dissonances and meeting points between these categories of actors. Another part of the thesis attempted to understand the inhabitants' motivation for participation, their expectations and spatial practices. As a result of these surveys, it appears that the "city factory" can no longer be built without the inhabitants - users who want to be informed about urban projects and heard by project leaders. However, when consultation is taken seriously by all stakeholders, it tends to best meet the principles of urban sustainability

Full textWe enter in the new level of urban planning that promotes eco-district, which is part of the objective of sustainable development and reduction of the ecological footprint, usually associated with a strong involvement of residents. Recall that an eco-district is a district that reduces energy consumption by using renewable energy; highlights gentle movements; limit the production of waste and the use of resources such as water; also involved in the choice of building materials. The development of eco-neighborhoods is very recent in the Western world, and has seen little application elsewhere. A country like Iran has not yet integrated accurate reflection on eco-neighborhoods and their development, even though it is now entering a new stage of sustainable development. Our project is to research and focus on the acceptability and feasibility of eco-neighborhoods which are adapted to the Iranian world, and whose results could revolutionize, or at least to change the urban design of cities in Iran. In a first point we briefly consider the general problem of the eco-district, before dealing in second place this issue in the context of Iran and, more specifically Tehran ; for final question the feasibility of eco sustainable neighborhoods in Iran

Full textSince the 1st April 1997, the liberalisation of the European air transport market has brought about real commercial management. From now on, the CCI service providers are obliged to improve their productivity or be sanctioned by the market. This augmentation in productivity is within the logic of the rethinking of the organisation of the “Airport enterprise”. Now, Information Technology and Communication (ITC) are technologies that are particularly adapted to the process of rethinking. Consequently, it is now a matter of resolving what Solow refers to as “the paradox of the productivity of the ITCs”. Within the framework of the theory of agency, the solution lies in the resolution of the asymmetry in information of the relation management-“homo-informaticus”. The objective is to characterise the efficient diachronic evolution of the modes of co-ordination of the “airport enterprise” and then to evaluate the exact nature of the influence of ITCs on the modes of co-ordination

Full textIsolation and confinement are linked to a complex interaction between many factors, and especially physical and social ones. Subjects have to cope with social and physical isolation from their usual world. In the same time, they must face the promiscuity through the continue presence of others. Consequently, relational behaviours can reveal adaptation reactions in this kind of situation. A systematic observation has been made in two confined environments in order to identify these affiliative effects: on one hand during an antarctic wintering over, and on the other hand during an ESA/CNES experiment of weightlessness simulation. In this last one, eight subjects had to stay during 42 days in bed, in a head-down tilt position. In the two cases, the observation of interpersonal behaviours has been completed by verbal indicators of the situation's perception by the subjects (diary, questionnaires). The first situation allowed to study the construction of affiliative groups and their evolution during the isolation period. With the second research, in which dyads were artificially constituted before the beginning of the experiment, the importance of social relationships can be seen with an interpersonal regulation through an effect of "behavioural contagion", expressed by a common behavioural style in each dyad. This contagion, as well as a "relative evaluation" of the situation show the importance of the emotional or goal-oriented social comparison. In the two cases, it was possible to define on one hand a learning stage during which subjects could cope with the unusual situation, and on the other hand a negative stage corresponding to the "third-quarter phenomenon"

Full textAmong several other activities practice on coastal socio-ecological system, recreational fishing ones have significantly increased over the past few years, becoming an issue for sustainable development. In France, the weakness of states governance concerning DPM management, questions the relevancy and feasibility of a co-management policy for these leisure activities. This paradigm, constituting a good substitute for top-down management, recommends an increased participation of local populations for managing environments and improving their outcomes. Oléron Island is thus affected by these observations, which are intensified by societal changes distinguishing island territories. In the current research context, aiming at solving societal problematic, it is relevant to consider an interdisciplinary approach to provide relevant answers. Concerning recreational shellfish gathering targeting the velvet swimming crab, results in biology and ecology highlight some characteristics which should indicate a weak short and long terms potential impact of the disturbances affecting local populations. As regards to societal aspects, the relevancy of co-management is clearly demonstrated by several land-use conflicts, a lack of means to manage the practice and scientific data, the lack of consultation, etc. The territorial dynamic and local initiatives, as well as land-use conflicts, underline the existence of a “political window” which should allow the implementation of a co-management process for recreational fishing in the following years, subject to further efficient communication and a real desire from stakeholders concerned by the management of this practice

Full textNowadays, researchers of several disciplines wonder about the changes that occurred in human resources management in some large French firms. Contractual economists have claimed for few years that their approach to examine human resources management instruments is pertinent. Within this context, our work aims at assessing, in a critical viewpoint, the ability of the three principal contractual theories of the firm to analyse the personnel management practices and their recent evolution - the three theories being transaction cost theory, incentive theory and incomplete contracts theory. In reaction against the limits of these theories, we elaborate our own analytical framework of the "governance devices of the employment relation" to apply it to the case of a large regional bank. The results of this work are both empirical and theoretical: they highlight the evolutions in the studied firm and they question about the way contractual economists examine the human resources management practices. We end up in personal conclusions about the internal organization of the firm

Full textEnvironmental issues and their managements set off a range of social facts questioning societies/environment relations. Flooding risks, and more generally, water management are relevant examples in order to analyse this phenomenon. Some areas are categorised as sensitive and so because of tensions resulting from socio-natural events which are defined by this risk. Where does this sensibility come from? How can it be identified and how is it expressed? This thesis questions this notion of sensibility from a sociological point of view to eventually take on a socio-spatial definition. This approach required the resort of geography, for a better consideration of the environmental dimension considering the object under study. Through the analysis of situations generated by flooding risk and its management in the Sarthe Bassin is tested the proposal relevance. Main focus will be on the reactions arousing from the development projects of two dry flood barriers- keeping a dynamic control of spates. Considering the analytical frame of the commitment policies (Thévenot, 2006), and more precisely the policy of justification, we point out the way riverside locals' reactions focus on varying claims, according to the different valley areas: request for protection to face flooding risks in vulnerable sectors, protection of the landscapes and finally, that local dynamics are maintained in upstream sectors. The analysis of interviews highlights a different hierarchy among the issues at stakes and so according to the sectors in question. Local actors' antagonistic claims trigger new issues and sometimes conflicts that are not always resolved over time. It leads to an inter-relationship between the spatial and temporal dimensions that enables to identify some trajectories of the socio-spatial sensibility. To conclude, this work illustrates the difficulties concerning the sharing of water territories when the flooding risk management is at stake

Full textThe story of the conception of ageing includes differents stages which suits with differents social theories. The last of these stages saw the emergence of a new cultural model of retirement which expresses a change of the new retired persons" customs and a redefinition of their social position. By this work, we tried to study these people's characteristics, studying the differents strategies allowing the management of the end of acting life, according to the retirement is approched or not with a project of life. According to our main hypothesis, the real-life of the retirement depends on the existence of this project, which depends itself of various elements. The adaptation to the life beyond the professional life, concerns the representations, individual and collective, the temporal activities and the recomposition of the social network. That way, the "forseeing strategy", which includes a thought by the ageing before the retirement, generates the expression of a project, which allows, at the time of the cessation of professional activity, to have a good many activities generative of social links, what it leads a good ageing. In the other way, a "adapting strategy" doesn't implicate this anticipation and allows only the reaction to a crisis situation. In order to lead these inquiry, we submitted a questionnaire, face to face, to four differents populations : a hundred of persons 55 to 59 years old, a hundred 60 to 64 years old, a hundred 65 to 69 years old, and a hundred persons who participate in the session of activities to the gerontological center of the Arcades at Troyes. This building of sample permitted to measure the choices of one or the other strategies, and the result of the retirement according to the age, and the effect of a gerontological structure set in the new cultural model of ageing

Full textEvery one of us knows that we are living in a complex world where the symptoms can be the manifestation of our times; they are coming to us like a hieroglyphics that we must decipher. The Dance, as an institution, is a paradigm of the speech of the social ideal, where dancers are immersed and are prisoner in a strict alienation, they have to follow the rules and contributes the social control. They are obligated to build a representation of their body image that modifies their psychosomatic balance. However this suffering of the Dancer body's, we can find that it appears in a paradoxical way, because it becomes with a certain "enjoyment". The physical suffering of the body is a complex phenomena that appears in the professional classic dancers groups, as a result of a consecutive psychic suffering and some others influences like society, politics, culture and economy. This sufferance can be found like alimentary disorders as anorexia and bulimia produced by the violence existent in the dancing media who tries to build one perfect and performed body model. In order to better understand how the esthetic production are pronounced in a symbolic way in the desire of other, we have to follow the narcissism of the dancer, who carry him to have one suffer body as a manifestation of their identity. What are they searching of or what have they lost in this exercise of speak with out voice but communicating with the dance of their body's? Why must they support so much pain and suffering?

Full textThe aim of this research is to study the relation that may exist between sterility and sexual dysfunctions in the Lebanese couple. Sixty couples with primary and secondary sterility from different socio-cultural environment were interviewed by the researcher herself at Hotel-Dieu hospital in Beirut. The aim of this study is to answer the various psychological questions. Results of this study reveal that the desire to have a child is not only submitted to unconscious phenomena but also to social conditions. Sexual disorders are not directly caused by infertility, patients who came for clinical consultation had already suffered of these disorders since their marriage, forty two cases over sixty had sexual dysfunctions; frigidity fourteen cases, frigidity and dyspareunia twenty-one cases, dyspareunia three cases, vaginismus four cases, impotence three cases, any case of premature ejaculation. The success of therapy ameliorates conjugal relation but does not ameliorate sexuality in couples because women who had children, and those who can procreate both remain inhibited sexually and they always said that they are frigid. Medically assisted procreation remains a therapeutic non demanded by patients

Built around four specific case studies, this research indicates that this "organizational crisis" can become endemic and long-term as individuals struggle to maintain their organizational identity throughout the change process. In addition, "Social Crisis and Enterprise Transformation" shows that the degree of an "organizational crisis" has a direct relation to current company work mechanisms, particular styles of Change Management, and an organization's unique tradition and culture

Full textThe author analyses, from a sociological point of view, how institutional actors react to technical and industrial hazards, taking examples in developped countries, and especially in France and the United States. He reviews the existing litterature about the experts facing risks, (scientists, safety engineers, economists), the industrial and business behaviour insafety issues, political and administrative attitudes, environmental movements and trade unions dealing with both occupational and environmental risks. The author undertakes the similarities between various institutions: there is a general "cultural bias" which can be characterized as a strong tendency to "euphemize" dangers coming from one's own activity, and, reversedly, to "emphasize" hazards to be attributed to other instances. More generally, social actors tend to perceive risk only within the limits of a "dramatic" construction of reality in which dangers which are not symbolised are simply "non existing". The author tries to sustain this statement by exploring the relationships emerging between the individual and the institution, when they are confronting industrial hazards. The main empirical results (including interviews in American and French situations - in chemical plants) lead the author to the conclusion that reciprocal "implication" (Individual vs. Institution) explains the cultural bias in risk perception. According to this, as far as they tend to become "closed worlds", institutions may develop risk perception systems which are more and more severed from reality. On the contrary, individuals, who deal with different social worlds at the same time, may be "risk reducing factors"

The superintendent ladies are the pioneers in the first half of the 20th century and from 1946, it is the occupational social workers that take over. This social function is diluted during the Thirty Glorious while reserving itself to take care individually and psychosocially to the most fragile wage earners. At the end of the eighties, the modernization of firms and of its management, require positioning different from the actors “human resources”. Logic of skill, individualization of the managerial practices, the new pathology, the suffering in work on one side and the deep changes in the society of the other one, disturb the practices of the occupational social workers and question strongly their missions. Full textIn pre-independence years in Cameroon, there was little or almost no interest for sports by Cameroonians in spite of the promulgation of a decree on the 25th of March 1924, by the Cameroonian high commissioner, to institutionalise the teaching of physical education. Sports was exclusive to a certain class and professions like the military or those who wished to do a performance. Since 1982, the year which announced the beginning of Cameroon’s 2nd republic, the practice of sports witnessed a radical change which inspires a glowing interest: “sporticising our society” that is making sports accessible to the masses, as a good number of Cameroonians, of diverse ages and cultures, are today engaged in different sporting activities, for example: jogging and gymnastic, practised by almost everybody and have become the order of the day, especially for those who want a certain harmony for their physique. Infact, sporting, physical and technical activities have become part of the daily life of Cameroonians, that one is curious to know the reason behind this “sports craze” which was of no significant interest, neither to the political authorities nor to the majority of Cameroonians before independence in 1960, which has progressively become a public phenomenon, affecting the lives of a great number of Cameroonians since the end of the 20th century. What could explain this massive involvement or interest of the populace in sports? Are there no reasons that incite the interest of those practising the “sports craze”? if yes, what are the factors? In order to be able to provide answers to the above questions, it is imperative to analyse the socio-political contexts which underlie sports practice in Cameroon. This is the object of our study

Full textSince the establishment of the first national waterways and rivers quality monitoring in 1971, several types of measures coexist at the drainage basin scale: on the one hand, the monitoring networks supported by the State services; on theother hand, the water quality monitoring of the drainage basin (SQE-BV) provided by decentralized actors. The acquisition of complementary knowledge on water from the field measurement has accompanied the evolution of local practices of water management, in a different way depending on the regions, the basins and sub-basins. Thanks to the regulatory constraint and a State-Region partnership, Breton waterways have been the subject of a highly developed surveillance policy. This approach was motivated in the 1990s because of the urgency to act in front of a greater pollution visibility. This thesis illustrates the regionalised approach by several case studies, including that of the precursor basin of Yvel-Yvet. The whole thesis, based on the study of these local follow-ups and on a temporality of more than twenty years, mobilizes the concept of instrument of public action to explain the stages, the socio-political motivations and the implementation scales of this territorialized policy of regaining water quality

Full textThe reflection developed in this thesis is jointly inspired by research in strategic management and information systems (IS). It tends to analyze the relationship between the sustainable development (SD), the corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the information systems (IS) in addressing a new object in this field: Green IT. As not much research have yet been dedicated to this subject, it simultaneously aims to describe this emerging phenomenon, to understand the reasons for its adoption and its diffusion within organizations and to design instrumentation. The neo-institutional theory and the socio-rational approach to the diffusion of innovation have been mobilized to develop a framework for analysis of the adoption. A reflection on the value of Green IT was led and associated with a review of governance models to create a measuring instrument of Green IT. At the end of an engineering search, an evaluation tool of the eco-responsible maturity of IS, inspired by Balanced Scorecards, was co-built. It was then tested in two distinct organizational contexts providing a first interpretation of the phenomenon. To complete this vision and examine the factors that may affect the adoption of Green IT, a survey was then realized. The results highlight the importance of institutional pressures, expected benefits, perceived obstacles, environmental attitudes and the CSR policy in the decision to adopt

Full textThis research interrogates the role of urban policies in conflicts management. Belfast has an industrial past : as in other European cities, derelict spaces are being regenerated. Yet, the territorialised conflict between Catholic and Protestant communities continues to strongly mark the urban space. The Northern-Irish leaders and urban planners then offer urbanistic solutions to normalise Belfast, in both a post-industrial and a post-conflict way. Vacant spaces allow large scale regeneration projects as far as the promotion of neutral spaces, which are not subject to community appropriation. It is thus needed to question the ability of urban spaces to create social link in order to promote a unifying urbanity in a divided city

Full textUnderstanding and foreseeing phenomena and environments in which we develop, seem more and more difficult to access. At best, we can manage change and risk. We often tend to take refuge behind a so-called "wall of complexity" in order to justify our relative disability in anticipating and controlling events. Complexity, a present reccurent theme, appears to be a useful artifact in making understandable phenomena which could not be explained up to now, including operation and evolution of socio-economic organizations (firms, administrations, associations, partnerships, political parties,) although top managers are aware of their environments being increasingly unpredictable and unstable, they still pilote their firms using tools and methods inherited from or derived from mechanistic, rationalistic or bureaucratic approaches of organization. Most piloting tools available were built for rationalistic production organizations and are based on the assumption of stable and foreseeable environments (early xxth century, "30 glorieuses" fundamental hypothesis and methodological principles, on which these tools are designed are not anymore acceptable. Managing in complexity calls for changing the point of view on organization and its environments, changing paradigm, making an epistemologic break. In this document, we try to understand how the stakeholders of a socio-economic organization, facing more and more complex environments, desing, simulate, experiment, develop and continuously improve "intelligent" management systems adapted to evolving aims. We also project to express how individual and collective intelligence allow individuals to overpass the limits resulting from the rationalistic organization of work. Then we call attention on some favourable conditions related to systems engineering for managing in complexity, particulary in relation to "responsibility developing" organizations (unites a responsabilite elargie)

Full textSince 1980, workplace sociology studies have taken an interest in subjectivity in the workplace as a mean of understanding social issues. In a similar fashion, this thesis deals with the way in which the educational management approach promotes engagement, and more particularly engagement as part of a regime based on the mobilization of subjectivities. It is generally conceded that employee mobilization is the classic realm of human resources management (HRM). But is this also true in other fields of organization? Is mobilization valued as highly elsewhere? The assumption is made by Tremblay et al. (2005) who propose a model of analysis based on four organizational fields 1) practices in HRM; 2) work organization; 3) leadership and; 4) vision, mission, objectives and values as so many levers to spur employee mobilization. The main objective of this thesis is to analyze HRM training manuals to establish whether the Tremblay et al. (2005) model is used widely in educational management literature without, however, assuming that this is reflected in concrete work situations. This thesis makes a triple contribution. It shows that employee mobilization and aspects related to it (enablement, motivation, sense of belonging and commitment) are portrayed as central to the new HRM practices by educational management literature in the areas of practices, work organization, leadership, vision, mission, objectives and values. Moreover, it reveals that mobilization is viewed as a source of emancipation – insofar as it is described as a vector of self-realization for the employee and, parallel to this, a path towards profitability for the business. Lastly, the thesis shows that beyond this vast attempt to mobilize subjectivity, educational management literature is the medium of a true work ethos that encourages the strong centrality of professional activity, experience as an end in itself and work relations based on a subjective transaction between both parties. In short, this ethos follows the principles of contemporary management norms. The thesis concludes with an examination of a set of reflections on the individual and social consequences of subjectivity engagement norms disseminated by contemporary management discourse

Full textNova Itapecerica is a rural locality of recent settlement, situated on the Litoral Norte of Bahia whose hamlets are widely determined by the arrivals of four main groups. These hamlets are divided between their traditions and a modernity that is fast approaching. Despite the extension of eucalyptus plantations on one hand, and the pressures that tourism development on the other hand exerts on resources, the families maintain a privileged relation with the nature which surrounds them, especially the palm tree piaçava. They maintain and develop know-how in the use of this one while practicing forms of horticulture. From the oral history, this thesis traces the constitution of this rural locality with the arrival of several waves of migrants, a history marked by numerous and violent conflicts. The development of the analyzes brings to light the variability of the relations between conflicts and sociability of cooperation. We explore how the techniques and the different local know-how implemented in the management of the environment play a significant role in the complex feelings of territoriality, belonging, cooperation and exclusion of these families

This thesis aims at examining the ethical, social and political issues raised by waste management of industrialized societies. Philosophical analyses of waste management generally adopt a symbolic approach that tends, in one hand, to ignore political and social issues and, on the other hand, to disregard the human-nature relation since environmental issues of waste management are limited to technical sphere. Yet, I suggest that this dual approach must be criticized and question the idea that technicians should deal with the waste treatment while philosophers (or sociologists) should only considerer the symbolic significance. This work argues that waste management of industrialized societies is not only a technical issue since its continuously in relation with the social sphere and among other things raises issues of justice. In this regard, I support that the environmental issue caused by waste management can only be grasped if we assume a conception of nature as community: when wastes affect (unevenly) the environment in which people live, wastes also have an impact on the populations because people nurture interdependent relationship with their environment. Once this has been established, I demonstrate that a cultural vision of environmental inequalities should be defended in order to identify and determine normative principles of waste justice.

Full textThis thesis examines the representations, norms and practices pertaining to nature in an urban context in two large cities situated on either side of the Mediterranean, and where such discrepancies are particularly salient. The comparative approach allows for a parallel to be established between two urban projects, one seeking to make Marseille into a “nature city” and the other Algiers into a “garden city”. Between Algiers and Marseille, we need to take into account historical legacies and transitions, but also the requirements linked to international policies that actors have to observe without, however, such requirements altering the dynamics of land consumption, socio-spatial inequalities or the weakening of local ecosystems. Based on work stemming from the sociology of the environment, urban sociology and political sociology, and bringing together a corpus of qualitative data, this research examines the symbolic, social and political aspects of “nature” in its urban context. The comparative study of the ways in which public green spaces are managed and planned, of social campaigning relating to the environment, and of public park practices and cultural representations of plants can explain the reasons for the marginalisation of the ecological question in these socio-political contexts. It also shows that the notion of “nature” relates to culturally-specific understandings which, in the Mediterranean context, cannot be limited to anthropocentric determinism

Full textIn all situation of interlocution, the dichotomic space between explicit and implicit language is adjusted especially regarding the more or less normed stakes, objectives and types of contracts. To that a variation existing between the individuals that is not less fondamental can be added : the knowledge that they have of each other. Thus, it is assumed that the more the subjects know each other, the more they develop in interlocution on implicit language that privileges in proportion the implicits of pragmatical nature. This research will be preceded by a theoretical deepening of the relationship between the mutual knowledge of the subjects, the activation of their mutual knowledge of referential and evaluative nature and the saturation or non saturation of implicits, in general, of semantic and pragmatical implicits, in particular. That allows us to envisage functions of implicits in interlocution, on the one hand as reducer of cognitive costs of the processing pledged in exchanges, as producer of mechanisms based on the protection of the face and, as revealing of the type of complicity existing between individuals and, on the other hand as being the best able to act in a strategic way on the interlocutor by making him responsable for his anticipations and interpretative retrospections that will bring him to active from the implicits

Full textCorporate volunteerism programs (CVP) are a way of implementing social responsability policies in organization. They consist in placing employees and their capabilities at the disposal to non-profit-making associations. Volunteerism within such programs is encouraged and supported by the firm. CVP can be seen as an organizational response to nonwork and usually private role of the employee. This thesis contributes to understand the relationship between work and nonwork. We discuss our results in light of other nonwork friendly practices. Managers usually link CVP with the positive impact on firm's HR (i. E. , organizational climate and cooperation, learning of new professional competencies, personal well-being). The object of this thesis is to identify and estimate salient effect in order to think about the place of CVP in HR management. That's the reason why we push ahead two studies. The first one is a qualitative study of two employee organizational associations. We use for it grounded theory methodology (Glaser and Strauss, 1967) and concepts of role identity theory (Stryker and Burke, 2000). The second one is a quantitative study of employees who have participated to a voluntary activity with Planète Urgence. The theoretical model that we tested is mainly based on social exchange theory (Blau, 1964) and the concept of perceived organizational support (Eisenberger et al. , 2003)

Full textAs the paradigms of Information and Communication Sciences evolve towards those of Knowing Society, the relation between individuals, society and ICT needs to be reassessed in a context of knowing. Within this framework, this dissertation aims at contributing to the development of the field of knowing management. I attempt to define a new model of information transmission and circulation, using a constructivist, social and instrumental approach of information exchanges. This new model integrates the mechanisms of social interaction in the transmission and creation of knowledge within the processes of knowledge management, learning and epistemic exchanges. In this perspective, the digital habitats, built using ICT, are viewed as participating elements in creating social and semiotic mediation spaces promoting the individual and collective dynamics of knowing management. This research dissertation thus contributes to the debates trying to go from a positivist to an anthropo-phenomenological definition of knowledge. Lastly, through a new analysis of the knowledge management systems, this dissertation enriches the debates on the elaboration of conceptual tools within the framework of "sociétés du savoir" (UNESCO, 2005) and contributes to exploring new research trails in ICS. This body of work is to be viewed as part of the great humanistic debate to define new paths for the construction of "knowing communities", integrating the cultural diversities and the contingent specificities of their components

Full textWith the advancement of the forest, which has characterized landscapes throughout the 20th century, particularly those of the middle mountains, the interfaces of habitat / forest have multiplied, going as far as the development of a new type of glade or clearing. This new type of glade is defined by an objective closing of the countryside and by a true feeling of enclosure or entrapment by its residents. The enclosure is a “phenomenon” which occurs from the moment in which one or several individuals live the experience. We have concentrated our work on the “entrapment of habitations,” taking into consideration a definition of habitation which includes not only the construction but the act of living in the space—that is to say—the inhabitants and their lived experiences, especially those which concern the surrounding daily countryside. The forest is without a doubt appreciated by Occidental society which has become urban; it is often sought out for the green, lush setting it provides. But regional variants exist regarding the ways in which forestry landscapes are perceived, and one such experience is that of enclosure of the forest upon habitations through forestry advancement. On a French scale, a comparative study of the Plateau de Millevaches, Maures and the North Vosges demonstrates that the acculturation of the forest is a determining factor in the lived experience of the forest as an element contributing to a feeling of entrapment. To conduct this study, our methodology is based on two approaches that we attempt de render complimentary. The first measures the spatial-temporal enclosing caused by the proximity of the forest based on the glade, which is the spatial form of the enclosure. The second approach is based on interviews and questionnaires gathered from local actors and inhabitants of the selected forested regions in an attempt to nuance the first approach and to take into consideration psycho-socio-cultural elements. The enclosure of the forest cannot be simply reduced to a large geographic scale, that of the outskirts, but it also extends onto the small scale which therefore reveals the functionality of territories

First of all, the problematics has been considered from an historical, juridical, technical and financial angle, secondly, the main aspect of the research, that is to say, the impact of the project from a socio-economic point of view, on the basis of the forecasts of the consultants, has been investigated. Thirdly, the analysis has dealt with the actual socio-economic impact of the tunnel on Kent over the first three years of operation. Full textThe generalization of the use of the mobile phone in Africa and Gabon in specific is a reality. It is a behavior with no precedent. It thus raises the question of information technologies and new forms of communication. This in turn invokes the issue of "information era". In this effervescence for mobile telephony, many questions deserve to be posed. Undoubtedly the most significant one is: why this passion? With a critical analysis of this question on realizes that currently this technological developpement doesn't have any importance at least from an economic standpoint. Despite the lack of economic evolution, there is an increasing usage of mobile pones in Gabon. Thus we treat people' attachment to the mobile phones as a need of communication. That being the lesson which one can learn from the generalized establishment of the mobile phones in Africa and in Gabon in particular, one can look at mobile phone usage in terms of interpersonal relations and social relations
