Full textThis paper deals with the problem of planning and control of spare parts inventory for systems subject to random failures. We describe a series of decision models to manage a range of spare parts for networks made up of several equipment in operation. Each equipment is composed of one or more parts that are necessary for its proper functioning. When part breaks down, it is replaced by another, if available in stock., it will then be taken to the repair station to restore it to its working condition. The models studied in this work are adapted to an organization with a network of equipment, transport channels, stocks of spare parts and several repair stations. Inventories and stations are deployed to serve a territory, zone or region to ensure a required level of service. The proposed mathematical models, describing the failure, the repair and the transport processes, use the queuing theory. It accurately reflects the phenomenon of failure and repair caused by the capacity constraints of repair stations and transport channels. The stochastic process that generates the arrival of failure parts at repair stations is assumed to be a Poisson process. The processing and transit times of a part are not known with certainty, they are considered as random variables, which follow general distributions. The spare parts inventory management system adopts a continuous transaction policy with unit replenishment (S-1, S). In this thesis, we are interested in analyzing the evolution of the system in a permanent regime, in order to find an optimal control policy which depends essentially on the number of spare parts to be kept in stock and the processing capacity of repair stations. We also develop approximate models to deal with multi-echelon logistic configurations, as well as emergency requests in a higher echelon, and lateral transfers between stores of the same echelon level. These models are adjusted to deal with different service measures and to handle several spare parts references. Several algorithms have been proposed and implemented, giving rise to numerical results yielding efficiency curves (Cost, Service Level, Capacity) allowing managers to make informed decisions throughout the life cycle of the system. In addition, a very detailed comparative study has been conducted to demonstrate the accuracy of the results obtained by our algorithms with the best contributions published in the literature. Keywords: Spare parts inventory management, maintenance policies, inventory control policies, renewal function, queuing system, supply chains, multi-echelon networks.

Full textSoftware deployment is a complex task because it requires numerous dependent actions to be carried out. It covers all the activities of the software life cycle from its development to its use. In this work, we are interested in the installation, deinstallation and update activities. At the same time, applications are becoming more complex, causing an explosion in their size. To facilitate their management and reuse, they are represented as collections of components that are shared between several applications. Thus, deploying an application will affect all the applications that use it. Such an operation requires prior knowledge of the architecture of the applications with all their dependencies. The current approaches for managing deployment are often ad hoc and necessitate the intervention of experts to solve problems and carry out the deployment. Moreover, there is no way to guarantee the correctness of the deployment operation. Therefore, it is necessary to change to more structured, flexible and reliable approaches to be able to verify the deployment. Hence, we propose a generic meta-model for automatic component deployment and a formal system to check and ensure correct deployment. The metamodel represents the main deployment concepts so it can be re-used in several contexts. The formal system represents the mathematical description of the generic model. It allows the success and safety (maintaining consistency of the system) of the deployment operations to be demonstrated and proved. Finally, we propose a formal system which integrates the non-functional properties (version, level of security, performance, etc. ) in managing the deployment. The interest of these properties is that they can take into account multiple instances of the same component or the same service in order to personalize deployment, depending on the target system

Full textNowadays, the flexible scheduling problems drew attention of researchers in the field of operational research. These problems introduce an additional difficulty due to the fact that an operation can be carried out by one or several machines to be chosen among other candidates. The objective is to assign and to sequence the operations on the resources so that the total duration of the schedule is minimized. In this study, we offer to solve three flexible problems: the hybrid flow shop on several stages, the two-stage hybrid flow shop, and the flexible job shop problem, by using tree methods based on discrepancies. An exhaustive experimental study proved the efficiency of the different approaches developed for considered problems

Full textOne of the greatest difficulties of the FMS (flexible manufacturing system) planning and scheduling problem is the control of the dynamic operations of the system during real-time. Scheduling at this level usually follows either a predictive schedule calculated before the beginning of production or reactive decisions made during real-time. Both schedules are important as they prepare operators to plan ahead and to react to random events. The challenge in our research is to exploit the inherent flexibility of FMS to obtain these schedule. Predictive schedule is obtained based on some assumptions of operation data; the difficulty is therefore getting a good estimate of these data. Reactive scheduling has to provide a solution with very tight time constraint. The general idea of our research is to find the principles and tools to improve both predictive and reactive scheduling together with machine learning. We begin our research by reducing the complexity of the problem breaking it into many resource allocation problems, corresponding to each of the decision-making locations in the FMS. Next, intelligent agents are trained by supervised learning, with examples provided by simulation. Every agent is able to decide individually, without the assistance of other agents. Although each agent is "myopic", being limited to its own local scheduling problem, they are able to propose a feasible solution in a distributed processing environment. The main focus of our research is to investigate the group behavior of these agents. When they come together, they will face adaptation, conflict resolution, competition and other "social" problems. Each agent will be judged according to the effectiveness of its contribution to the global production objective. Using these performance feedback, each agent can improve its performance, through reinforcement learning, as a team member. A case study is used to illustrate our approach

Full textWith the increasing share of intermittent renewable energies in the electricity mix, some stability problems are expected in the grid. The solution consists in using biogas as buffer energy. Biogas can be stored, then used on-demand. As the storage is limited, biogas production should be flexible. The aim of this thesis was to study and determine the limits of anaerobic reactors in a flexible operation. Three 15L reactors, fed with three different mixtures of two solid substrates, were fed for 550 days in flexible operation. It was demonstrated in this thesis that flexible operation with one-off overloads had no negative impact on methane production on long-term. The flexibility was defined as the margin between the maximum production on a reactor and its baseload production. It was strongly influenced by the baseload of the reactor and the substrates used in overloads, but not by the intensity of the overloads applied. The use of readily degradable substrates in overloads allowed a maximum production of 1 to 1.2 LCH4/Lreactor.d to be achieved in the first 24 hours, even in reactors fed mainly with manure, leading to flexibility ranging from +92 to + 150%. This ceiling depends on the rate of hydrolysis of the substrates. It can be increased by using compounds that are of a simpler structure (glycerol for example). An operational strategy ready to be validated on pilot plants has been defined; it specifies the approach for the determination of the maximum production and the level of the baseload to be adopted, for an optimal flexibilization of the methane production on CSTRs. A simple model, based on two degradation rates, has also been developed to simulate flexible operation of anaerobic reactors

Full textMany querying languages have been proposed to manipulate Semi-Structured Data (SSD) and to extract relevant information (in terms of structure and/or content) to the user. Such querying languages should take into account not only the content but also the underlying structure since it can completely change their relevance and adequacy with respect to the needs expressed by the user. However, not having prior knowledge and the heterogeneity of SSD structure makes classical database languages inadequate. The work undertaken on database flexible querying revealed that fuzzy logic is particularly well-suited for modelling the notion of flexibility and preferences according to human reasoning. In this sense, we propose a model of flexible query for SSD in general and XML documents, taking into account the content and the underlying structure of SSD. Fuzzy logic is used to represent the user's preferences on the content and structure of SSD. At the end of the evaluation process, every response is associated with a degree in the interval ]0. 1]. The more this degree is low, the answer seems less relevant. This degree is calculated using the degree of ownership and measures known similarity in information retrieval systems for content, and the minimum spanning tree for the structure. The proposed model has been reviewed and validated using PRETI Platform and INEX benchmark, thanks to the prototype that we've developped

Full textThe high throughputs supported by the multimedia multicast services (MBMS) and the limited radio resources result in strong requirement for efficient radio resource management (RRM) in UMTS 3G networks. This PhD thesis proposes to solve the MBMS RRM problem as a combinatorial optimization problem. The work starts with a formal modeling of the problem, named as the Flexible Radio Resource Management Model (F2R2M). An in-depth analysis of the problem complexity and the search landscape is done from the model. It is showed that, by relaxing the OVSF code constraints, the MBMS RRM problem can be approximated as a Multiple-Choice Knapsack Problem (MCKP). Such work allows us to compute the theoretical solution bounds by solving the approximated MCKP. Then the fitness landscape analysis shows that the search spaces are rough and reveal several local optimums. Based on the analysis, some metaheuristic algorithms are studied to solve the MBMS RRM problem. We first show that a Greedy Local Search (GLS) and a Simulated Annealing (SA) allow us to find better solutions than the existing approaches implemented in the UMTS system, however the results are instable due to the landscape roughness. Finally we have developed a Tabu Search (TS) mixed with a Variable Neighborhood Search (VNS) algorithm and we have compared it with GLS, SA and UMTS embedded algorithms. Not only the TS outperforms all the other approaches on several scenarios but also, by comparing it with the theoretical solution bounds generated by the MCKP solver, we observe that TS is equal or close to the theoretical optimal solutions

Full textGrowth of distributed generations (DG) in actual distribution networks will bring voltage issues that cannot be fixed by conventional voltage control means. For the sake of network safety, the size of DG and load in a distribution network is limited by the network parameters. The research described in this thesis aims to propose a voltage control strategy on distribution networks using the flexibility of demand. The voltage control means will consist of the on load tap changer (OLTC), the regulation of DG, and flexible demand. A centralized optimization of MINLP type is proposed to coordinate these voltage control means. It shows if it is not able to remove the voltage constraint with OLTC and reactive power regulation, then it must reduce the active power of DG. In order not to reduce active power of DG, the flexible demand is considered as an active source to take part in voltage control. The demand response (DR) modulation using thermal loads is thus proposed for voltage control. For the thermal load, the cold load pick-up (CLPU) effect must be taken into account in order not to affect the voltage profile after DR action. This work allows us to consider a voltage control strategy more active in smart distribution network and improve the flexibility of network

The second part is to develop a computer system to track the project execution by integrating the Geographic Information System (GIS) with planning software to improve the performance of project execution, and in other hand, this system includes a database to document all project phases. Lykidi, Maria. "The optimal management of flexible nuclear plants in competitive electricity systems : the case of competition with reservoir." Thesis, Paris 1, 2014. http://www.theses.fr/2014PA010082.
Full textNuclear power as a generation technology that is widely used in electricity production systems is characterized by high fixed costs and low variable costs. To amortize its fixed costs, nuclear is preferentially used for inflexible baseload operation, i.e. operate at a constant level to meet the non variable part of electricity demand of a system and produce at its maximum capacity. Because of this specificity, the insertion of nuclear production in competitive electricity markets has not been deeply studied so far. Therefore, even in competitive markets, the question of the optimal management of a nuclear generation set has not been raised because nuclear production is supposed to operate continuously (to cover baseline demand). However, there are cases where the management of nuclear generation seems more complex than suggested by this simplified view. Typically, when the proportion of nuclear energy in a production set is high, the nuclear generation output has to adjust to the variations in demand. This raises the question of the optimal way to manage this production technology in that kind of setting. As this question has not been studied so far, there is a need for a theoretical framework that enables an analysis of situations like the French one, with a competitive market and where nuclear represents 80% of generation, i.e. much more that what would be necessary to cover the baseload demand. We place ourselves in a medium-term horizon of the management (1 to 3 years) to take into account the seasonal variation of the demand level. In the medium-term, the manager of a large nuclear set (like the French set) has to set its seasonal variation of output according to the demand level. Since nuclear units have to stop periodically (from 12 to 18 months) to reload their fuel, we can analyze the nuclear fuel as a stock behaving like a reservoir. The operation of the reservoir allows different profiles of nuclear fuel use during the different demand seasons of the year. Thus, we will look at this question as a rational economic analysis of the operation of a nuclear fuel “reservoir”. We then analyze it within a general deterministic dynamic framework with two types of generation: nuclear and thermal non-nuclear. We study the optimal management of the production in a perfectly competitive market. Then, we establish a numerical model (based on data from the French market) with nuclear plants being not operated strictly as base load power plants but within a flexible dispatch frame (like the French nuclear set). Full textComplex networked systems are a fundamental basis of today's life. They increasingly sup- port critical services and usages, essential both to businesses and the society at large. The evident example is the Internet with all its services and usages in a variety of forms, architectures and media ranging from small mobile devices such as smartphones to large-scale critical systems such as clusters of servers and cloud infrastructures. It is therefore crucial to ensure their effective and continuous operation. A vision to do this consists in the development of autonomous and adaptive management solutions, capable of dynamically and continuously reconfiguring these systems in order to maintain a desired state of operation in the face of unstable and unpredictable operational conditions. A main obstacle to the effective deployment of dynamic reconfiguration solutions is the lack of methods and means to ensure the effectiveness and safety of these dynamic con- figuration changes. The overall contribution of this thesis is to provide concepts, methods and tools to enable an online configuration verification. Our approach to build this framework was first to define a high-level language dedicated to the specification and verification of configurations. Second, we designed a generic flexible and adaptable runtime verification service, able to manipulate the concepts defined in this language. Finally, we defined an architecture of adapters for integrating existing systems and platforms. This allows our framework to support a runtime configuration verification process that starts at design time with a rigorous specification of configuration models and continues at runtime through automatic checking of configurations based on these models. The framework has been implemented in a prototype that has been experienced on a series of experiments from two different application domains: the verification of a messaging middle- ware's configurations in a JMX environment and the verification of virtual machines' configurations in a CIM/WBEM (DMTF standards) environment. The results showed the feasibility of our approach and the framework's ability to support a flexible and adaptable online verification of configurations that can be integrated with existing management solutions

This model takes into account two aspects of flexibility, related one to the modulation of the working time, and the other with the variety of tasks which can be achieved by a given resource (multi skills). We propose two methodological approaches for the resolution of the model: a first approach is based on mono-criterion genetic algorithms which make a systematic research concerning the possible choices of the operators allocation, a second approach based on the assignment from rules of priority with simultaneously takes into account of the criticality of competences and efficiency of the resources in order to assign the most suitable operators. The issue of this work relates to the resolution of a complex problem with an acceptable search time

Full textThe aging of the population will probably catalyze the rise of chronic diseases and could intensify the need for personal assistance solutions. While researchers are focusing on information and communication technologies to provide responses to these public health problems, the number of connected objects is experiencing a rapid expansion. Indeed, desired revolution of technologies for health, forprevention and disease treatment coincides with the development of the Internet of Things 2. Thus, technological innovations and medical progress, for making it possible to monitor pathologies, often chronic, anywhere need appropriate equipments. Also, remote and real-time patient monitoring applications would require more network resources. In this context, communication resources management/sharing, technologies and equipments compatibilities and aplication’s desired performances become significant challenges. In this thesis, we propose an architecture based on Cognitive Radio, for meeting the medical applications constraints. We also analyze and test three important criteria for emergency transmissions, using this architecture.Connectivity : Any solution for patients monitoring must have anywhere and anytime capabilities for care continuity needs. High availability of network services and quality offered are critical for patient telemonitoring. We propose in this context, a spectral prediction mechanism able to examine the occupation conditions of the frequency bands. The algorithm we propose, associated learning and Grey Model technique in order to deal with any network connection discontinuities.Interference management : Network equipments must be able to perceive or to analyze their environment and act according to the underlying constraints. The interest is to protect in our case, medical equipment which are very sensitive to noise. Patient monitoring becomes possible at home or in the hospital, for example, with an acceptable level of interference. We propose for this criterion evaluation, a Cognitive Radio Networks deployment model in a hospital area. We define examples of functions for dynamic adaptation of the communication parameters, depending on the nearby medical devices sensitivity.Transmission efficiency under multimedia content delivery : This criterion analizes the ability of the architecture to provide desired quality in multimedia content delivery for real-time assistance or diagnosis. Patient monitoring at home or an emergency event may require the transmission of image or audio content to the hospital center. The remote monitoring solution must be able to provide these facilities which require a broadband network. We suggest an algorithm for resource reservation that performs a better management of the quality of service for medical multimedia content. We combine this algorithm with a transmission parameters control methode for maintaining the QoS at an acceptable level

Full textThis thesis deals with the integration of multimedia traffic on the uplink of the UMTS radio interface. The problem is tackled in its globality, considering jointly the resource sharing possibilities, a good characterization of the traffic to transmit and the possibilities opened in the UMTS standard. The attention is more particularly focused on MPEG4 video and data of the Internet type. The first part of the thesis provides an approach of radio resource sharing in WCDMA mode. The performances of the physical layer multiplexing mechanism with quality of transmission differentiation and the impact of the rate matching mechanism are evaluated. This analysis serves as a basis for the construction of a cost function for estimating the multiservice cellular capacity and the proposition of a quality of transmission adaptive balancing method. The second part of the thesis presents a new statistical model for MPEG4 video traffic. This model consists in a customization of the DBMAP process and allows evaluating the queueing performances analytically. The last part of the thesis integrates this set of works yielding a cooperative scheduling strategy that efficiently multiplexes the packets generated by real time and non real time multimedia applications while respecting the integrity and delay constraints. An analytical method based on M/G/1 type queueing systems theory is given for computing the delays incurred by MPEG4 video and data packets when this strategy is implemented in a UMTS network

For the flexible job-shop scheduling problems treated, the criterion taken into account is Makespan minimization. These two methods have been applied to various work-shops with distinct complexities to show their efficiency. After comparison of these methods, the obtained results allowed us to notice the efficiency of the based particle swarm optimization method in terms of convergence and reaching optimal solution

Full textWe address the discrete time resource-constrained project scheduling problem in which each activity has a specified work content and its resource usage may vary from period to period. We consider temporary work and overtime as additional renewable resources for crashing the project. We assume that the project quality may be affected by crashing as well as its completion time through productivity loss due to overmanning. We develop a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model to minimise the makespan subject to a budget constraint and to acceptable quality levels for all activities so as to avoid rework. The proposed approach is applied to an actual manufacturing project of a very high speed train motor coach

Full textThe research in this thesis ; focus on the scheduling problems encountered in automated production systems and takes into account new constraints, such as buffer stocks of limited capacity, flexibility of resources, etc.. Two main objectives are set, namely the proposal of new models of scheduling, development of approaches and lower bounds for scheduling systems studied (classical job shop and hybrid job shop with blocking Rcb). The lower bounds are developed for the problems of job-shop classic and hybrid with Rcb blocking constraint. Heuristics based on simulated annealing have been developed for the job-shop problems subject to the Rcb blocking constraint. Results of experiments conducted on instances of small and medium sizes show the effectiveness of lower bounds and heuristics developed
