Abstract:
Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli O127 is encapsulated by a protective layer of polysaccharide made of the same strain specific O-antigen as the serotype lipopolysaccharide. Seven genes encoding capsule export functions comprise the group 4 capsule (gfc) operon. Genes gfcE, etk and etp encode homologs of the group 1 capsule secretion system but the upstream gfcABCD genes encode unknown functions specific to group 4 capsule export. We have developed an expression system for the large-scale production of the outer membrane protein GfcD. Contrary to annotations, we find that GfcD is a non-acylated integral membrane protein. Circular dichroism spectroscopy, light-scattering data, and the HHomp server suggested that GfcD is a monomeric β-barrel with 26 β-strands and an internal globular domain. We identified a set of novel protein-protein interactions between GfcB, GfcC, and GfcD, both in vivo and in vitro, and quantified the binding properties with isothermal calorimetry and biolayer interferometry. GfcC and GfcB form a high-affinity heterodimer with a KD near 100 nM. This heterodimer binds to GfcD (KD = 28 μM) significantly better than either GfcB or GfcC alone. These gfc proteins may form a complex at the outer membrane for group 4 capsule secretion or for a yet unknown function.

Abstract:
The gasification filter cake (GFC) has great application potential for improving the characteristics of seedling substrates due to its nutrient richness and excellent water retention capacity. However, GFCs leach heavy metals easily and thus pose certain ecological risks. Sodium silicate can enhance plant resistance to heavy metal toxicity by fixing heavy metals. This study investigated the impact of sodium silicate on cucumber plant growth, the chemical characterization of the substrate, and the distribution and transfer of heavy metals. Sodium silicate was added to the seedling substrate mix at mass rates of 0 g/kg−1 (GFC0), 2 g/kg−1 (GFC2), 4 g/kg−1 (GFC4), and 8 g/kg−1 (GFC8). The seedling substrate was composed of a commercial matrix, caragana compost, and GFC (m:m 7:7:2). The GFC increased the content of total phosphorus (P), available phosphorus (P), and available potassium (K) in the substrate by 31.58%, 16.58%, and 80.10%, respectively. Conversely, the GFC decreased the plant height by 12.3%. Adding sodium silicate to the GFC increased the chlorophyll content of the plants, fixed heavy metals in the substrate, and promoted nutrient absorption and utilization by the plants. Compared with GFC0 without sodium silicate, adding sodium silicate at a mass rate of 2 g/kg−1 (GFC2) reduced the chromium, lead, and cadmium contents by 51.13%, 26.37%, and 90.04%, respectively, which effectively alleviated heavy metal stress and was more conducive to plant growth.

Full text
Abstract:
Thailand is currently grappling with a severe problem of air pollution, especially from small particulate matter (PM), which poses considerable threats to public health. The speed of the wind is pivotal in spreading these harmful particles across the atmosphere. Given the inherently unpredictable wind speed behavior, our focus lies in establishing the confidence interval (CI) for the variance of wind speed data. To achieve this, we will employ the delta-Birnbaum-Saunders (delta-BirSau) distribution. This statistical model allows for analyzing wind speed data and offers valuable insights into its variability and potential implications for air quality. The intervals are derived from ten different methods: generalized confidence interval (GCI), bootstrap confidence interval (BCI), generalized fiducial confidence interval (GFCI), and normal approximation (NA). Specifically, we apply GCI, BCI, and GFCI while considering the estimation of the proportion of zeros using the variance stabilized transformation (VST), Wilson, and Hannig methods. To evaluate the performance of these methods, we conduct a simulation study using Monte Carlo simulations in the R statistical software. The study assesses the coverage probabilities and average widths of the proposed confidence intervals. The simulation results reveal that GFCI based on the Wilson method is optimal for small sample sizes, GFCI based on the Hannig method excels for medium sample sizes, and GFCI based on the VST method stands out for large sample sizes. To further validate the practical application of these methods, we employ daily wind speed data from an industrial area in Prachin Buri and Rayong provinces, Thailand.

Abstract:
It is well known that about 80% of electric fire occurs by arc fault. The arc fault can be generated in loose wire connection or damaged wire, outlets, appliances, extension cords, etc. To mitigate the electric fire, US mandated to use Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCI) since 2002. Before AFCI has been developed, Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI) were used for prevention of electric shock accident but GFCIs are not able to detect arc fault that is main cause of electric fire. After AFCI requirement of US established, Canada, Europe, New Zealand also adopted the AFCI as mandatory. It is a worldwide trend to mandate AFCI in their countries. We are living in the era of changing from GFCIs to AFCIs. As the demand for AFCIs increases, many studies regarding development of AFCI products and technologies have been conducted but comparison study of operation characteristics of AFCI has not been done yet, thus in this paper we are going to conduct series of arc experiment with several AFCI products and compare their performance.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper publishes summary results for the first time of a major survey of senior financial practitioners undertaken in Hong Kong and Shanghai in 2005, and compares these with the Global Financial Centre Index first created in 2007 to determine the extent to which both are consistent. Design/methodology/approach – The research is based on a detailed survey and utilizes principal-components analysis to determine the primary factors relevant to the development of both cities as international financial centres (IFCs) and those which the respondents consider will be relevant in the future. Findings – The paper demonstrates that the key “success factors” for both cities in 2005 remain very important in the global financial centres index (GFCI) analysis ten years later but not necessarily by the same ranking. We also found that a number of the “primary” factors change when respondents are asked to consider future success factors. Research limitations/implications – The survey was conducted ten years ago; however, the results continue to have significant reliability and validity - especially when compared with the results of the GFCI report of 2014. Practical implications – The paper should enable policy makers and practitioners to better understand the future policy environment needed for extending the financial centre status of both Hong Kong and Shanghai. Originality/value – This is the first time (some) of the survey findings that have ever been published, and they represent a rich source of information – however, the authors will be examining the survey data for future publications.

According to the GFCI ranking from 2018-2020, Hong Kong fell from third to sixth, surpassing cities in other Asian countries and some inland cities in China. Hong Kong’s marginalization has intensified because of the impact of the new crown epidemic and anti-repair incidents. However, Hong Kong’s marginalization is indeed somewhat inappropriate. As far as the situation is concerned, Hong Kong still has a strong competitiveness, although it is lagging behind, but Hong Kong should think deeply about the strategy and system of “one country, two systems”, believe in the country’s strategic intention and adjust its state in time to re-exclude the public’s understanding of its marginalization.

Abstract:
The History of International Financial Services Centers (IFSCs) is very long, dating back more than 150 years. Many countries established International Financial Centres (IFCs) to offer International Financial Services (IFS) at various stages of their economic growth. Over time, some of the important hubs for international financial services included London, Tokyo, New York, Hong Kong, Frankfurt and Singapore. These Centers created a large number of jobs and helped the economies of the countries in which they operate to grow. Around 119 centres have been established worldwide to meet the need for international financial services in over 196 countries (GFCI, 2015-2022). India's economy was opened in 1991, but capital account convertibility hasn't been achieved, therefore its influence on the world financial market is viewed as minimal. One of the world's largest economies and a significant consumer of IFS, India very recently announced the creation of IFSC in April 2015. Given how closely the global market is connected via technology, it is essential for India to set up IFSC and appear on the map of the world's financial centre. It is predicted that India is losing US $50 billion year (2015) without an IFSC, and that loss will increase to US $ 120 billion by 2025.
This paper identifies key determinants of success for IFSC in India by using the two analytical tools namely Global Financial Centre Index (GFCI) analysis in global context and the Factor Analysis in Indian context and finds that IFSC in India, though being a new financial service centre, can certainly increase its competitiveness and become a sustainable successful financial centre more quickly by focusing on the factors identified in this study and the economic impact of IFSC growth in India would be profound.

Abstract:
Smart meters (SMs) are key components of the smart grid (SG) which gather electricity usage data from residences and businesses. Home area networks (HANs) are used to support two-way communications between SMs and devices within a building such as appliances. This can be implemented using power line communications (PLCs) via home wiring topologies. In this paper, a bottom-up approach is designed and a HAN-PLC channel model is obtained for a split-phase power system which includes branch circuits, an electric panel with circuit breakers and bars, a secondary transformer and the wiring of neighboring residences. A cell division (CD) method is proposed to construct the channel model. Furthermore, arc fault circuit interrupter (AFCI) and ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) circuit breaker models are developed. Several HAN-PLC channels are presented and compared with those obtained using existing models.

Abstract:
The study examines the development determinants of the dairy industry, a major component of global and national food security. Regarding production and trade factors affecting the whole agro-industrial complex and the dairy industry of Ukraine, the leading indicators of dairy products' availability and provision level were determined, and their dynamics were analyzed. Ukraine's dairy product consumption sufficiency indicator was defined as one of the food security criteria. It has been established that the production determinants of the dairy industry under martial law include the profitability cost level of milk production, the milking herd's number, raw milk quality and sufficiency, and the use of fodder in milk production. Trade determinants are sale opportunities, the price level for raw milk, the affordability of dairy products, and the current Ukrainian legislation in the trade sector. The developed linear multifactor model of the dairy products turnover by retail chains' dependence on the dairy products consumption level, the average monthly wage level, the inflation level and imports indicates a close relationship between the determined factors and allows to analyze the prospects of the market and the dairy industry, as GFCI components.

Abstract:
Fatigue in a material occurs when it is subjected to fluctuating stress and strain, which usually results in failure due to the accumulated damage. In statistics, asymmetric distribution, which is commonly used for describing the fatigue life of materials, is the Birnbaum–Saunders (BS) distribution. This distribution can be transform to the normal distribution, which is symmetrical. Furthermore, variance is used to examine the dispersion of the fatigue life data. However, comparing the variances of two independent samples that follow BS distributions has not previously been reported. To accomplish this, we propose methods for providing the confidence interval for the ratio of variances of two independent BS distributions based on the generalized fiducial confidence interval (GFCI), a Bayesian credible interval (BCI), and the highest posterior density (HPD) intervals based on a prior distribution with partial information (HPD-PI) and a proper prior with known hyperparameters (HPD-KH). A Monte Carlo simulation study was carried out to examine the efficacies of the methods in terms of their coverage probabilities and average lengths. The simulation results indicate that the HPD-PI performed satisfactorily for all sample sizes investigated. To illustrate the efficacies of the proposed methods with real data, they were also applied to study the confidence interval for the ratio of the variances of two 6061-T6 aluminum coupon fatigue-life datasets.

Abstract:
IntroductionGeriatric Fracture Centers (GFCs) are dedicated treatment units where care is tailored towards elderly patients who have suffered fragility fractures. The primary objective of this economic analysis was to determine the cost-utility of GFCs compared with usual care centres.MethodsThe primary analysis was a cost-utility analysis that measured the cost per incremental quality-adjusted life-year gained from treatment of hip fracture in GFCs compared with treatment in usual care centres from the societal perspective over a 1-year time horizon. The secondary analysis was a cost-utility analysis from a societal perspective over a lifetime time horizon. We evaluated these outcomes using a cost-utility analysis using data from a large multicentre prospective cohort study comparing GFCs versus usual care centres that took place in Austria, Spain, the USA, the Netherlands, Thailand and Singapore.ResultsGFCs may be cost-effective in the long term, while providing a more comprehensive care plan. Patients in usual care centre group were slightly older and had fewer comorbidities. For the 1-year analysis, the costs per patient were slightly lower in the GFC group (−$646.42), while the quality-adjusted life-years were higher in the usual care centre group (+0.034). The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was $18 863.34 (US$/quality-adjusted life-year). The lifetime horizon analysis found that the costs per patient were lower in the GFC group (−$7210.35), while the quality-adjusted life-years were higher in the usual care centre group (+0.02). The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was $320 678.77 (US$/quality-adjusted life-year).ConclusionsThis analysis found that GFCs were associated with lower costs compared with usual care centres. The cost-savings were greater when the lifetime time horizon was considered. This comprehensive cost-effectiveness analysis, using data from an international prospective cohort study, found that GFC may be cost-effective in the long term, while providing a more comprehensive care plan. A greater number of major adverse events were reported at GFC, nevertheless a lower mortality rate associated with these adverse events at GFC. Due to the minor utility benefits, which may be a result of greater adverse event detection within the GFC group and much greater costs of usual care centres, the GFC may be cost-effective due to the large cost-savings it demonstrated over the lifetime time horizon, while potentially identifying and treating adverse events more effectively. These findings suggest that the GFC may be a cost-effective option over the lifetime of a geriatric patient with hip fracture, although future research is needed to further validate these findings.Level of evidenceEconomic, level 2.Trial registration numberNCT02297581.

Abstract:
The article discusses the preconditions for the emergence and role of international financial centers (IFCs) as key institutions of the global financial market, which at the end of the 20th century acquired the most important function in the accumulation and circulation of international capital, which is closely connected with the globalization of the world economy. It traces the history of the emergence of IFC and analyzes the main trends in their development in the context of economic globalization, in particular their numerical growth, development and enlargement of regional IFCs, strengthening their influence on the development of the base country and the world economy. On the basis of new global trends and challenges of the 21st century, the analysis covers the prospects of IFCs’ development in the emerging information society and, in particular, the use of new financial technologies (fintech), rapidly spreading throughout the world. The study is based on empirical data provided by the renowned Global Financial Center Index (GFCI), which has been published annually since 2007. The article reveals the changing landscape of IFCs, which is determined primarily by the rapid development of new financial centers in East Asia and other regions of the world. The author concludes that international financial centers are playing an increasingly important role in the world economy and its financial sector. They perform their functions primarily through the management of cash and resource flows, cross-border financial transactions involving investors from different countries, structuring financial flows, providing various financial services, and also have a growing influence both on the management decisions of companies and on the management of national economies. In this role, IFCs are taking on the role of a geoeconomic instrument.

Abstract:
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to determine the effect of treatment in geriatric fracture centres (GFC) on the incidence of major adverse events (MAEs) in patients with hip fractures compared with usual care centres (UCC). Secondary objectives included hospital-workflow and mobility-related outcomes.DesignCohort study recruiting patients between June 2015 and January 2017. Follow-up was 1 year.SettingInternational (six countries, three continents) multicentre study.Participants281 patients aged ≥70 with operatively treated proximal femur fractures.InterventionsTreatment in UCCs (n=139) or GFCs (n=142), that is, interdisciplinary treatment including regular geriatric consultation and daily physiotherapy.Outcome measuresPrimary outcome was occurrence of prespecified MAEs, including delirium. Secondary outcomes included any other adverse events, time to surgery, time in acute ward, 1-year mortality, mobility, and quality of life.ResultsPatients treated in GFCs (n=142) had a mean age of 81.9 (SD, 6.6) years versus 83.9 (SD 6.9) years in patients (n=139) treated in UCCs (p=0.013) and a higher mean Charlson Comorbidity Index of 2.0 (SD, 2.1) versus 1.2 (SD, 1.5) in UCCs (p=0.001). More patients in GFCs (28.2%) experienced an MAE during the first year after surgery compared with UCCs (7.9%) with an OR of 4.56 (95% CI 2.23 to 9.34, p<0.001). Analysing individual MAEs, this was significant for pneumonia (GFC: 9.2%; UCC: 2.9%; OR, 3.40 (95% CI 1.08 to 10.70), p=0.027) and delirium (GFC: 11.3%; UCC: 2.2%, OR, 5.76 (95% CI 1.64 to 20.23), p=0.002).ConclusionsContrary to our study hypothesis, the rate of MAEs was higher in GFCs than in UCCs. Delirium was revealed as a main contributor. Most likely, this was based on improved detection rather than a truly elevated incidence, which we interpret as positive effect of geriatric comanagement.Trial registration numberClinicalTrials.gov: NCT02297581.

Abstract:
Glucose is a ubiquitous source of energy for nearly all living things, and glucose fuel cells (GFCs) are regarded as a sustainable power source because glucose is renewable, easily available, cheap, abundant, non-toxic and easy-to-store. Numerous efforts have been devoted to developing and improving GFC performance; however, there is still no commercially viable devices on the market. Membranes play an essential role in GFCs for the establishment of a suitable local microenvironment, selective ion conducting and prevention of substrate crossover. However, our knowledge on them is still limited, especially on how to achieve comparable efficacy with that of a biological system. This review article provides the first brief overview on these aspects, particularly keeping in sight the research trends, current challenges, and the future prospects. We aim to bring together literature analysis and technological discussion on GFCs and membranes by using bibliometrics, and provide new ideas for researchers in this field to overcome challenges on developing high-performance GFCs.

Abstract:
This study investigated college students' various motivations to select from a comprehensive range of group fitness class (GFC) offerings at a university. Multivariate analysis of variance revealed a significant difference in motivations to exercise based on the GFC a participant was attending most often (primary GFC, p < .01). A post hoc test determined that Health Pressures was the only motivation subscale of 14 total subscales to significantly contribute to the main effect ( p < .003). However, the findings suggested that primary GFC can explain variation in motivations to exercise. This result evidences applicability of the self-determination theory between smaller categories of physical activity than previously tested. Future research should replicate the study at larger, more diverse institutions to explore additional factors affecting motivations to exercise. Practitioners can use this study to inform the design and advertising of GFCs.

Abstract:
This work evaluates the possibility of using nickel-containing structured glass fiber catalysts (Ni/GFC) for the process of hydrogenolysis of gas condensate (GC) into transportable components of natural gas, which will increase the efficiency of GC processing and contribute to the development of more cost-effective technologies in the oil-gas industry. Ni/GFC samples with Ni content of 5, 10 and 15% wt. were synthesized by surface thermal synthesis (STS). An industrial granular catalyst with a mass Ni content of 16% was used to compare the catalytic activity of the obtained catalysts. The highest activity and selectivity of methane formation is observed on the 10% Ni/ GFC catalyst, by these parameters it is superior not only to other GFCs, but also the traditional granular catalyst.

Abstract:
Global Financial Crisis (GFC) in 2007-2010 has given a big impact to the financial institution and banking institutions worldwide. A wide array of GFC impact is experienced by the operating and financial performance in banking institutions. Islamic banks however have raised the public interest to be relatively unaffected by the GFC. There are studies which found that GFC has less effect to Islamic banking system. In fact it is claimed to be “immune from the ravages of the GFC”. The question arises whether the claim is also true in the case of the Islamic bank financing. Thus, this study attempts to assess the reaction of Islamic bank financing to the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) through the monetary policy action taken by the government in Malaysia. Using the time series data the investigation will benefit from the quarterly data spanning from 1995 to 2013. A model is constructed and focusing on the interaction term of monetary policy and global financial crisis. In analyzing the impact and a long run relationship between variables, Johansen’s co-integration test is applied. Finding shows that Islamic bank financing and the interaction term of global financial crisis are co-integrated and, hence, a long-run equilibrium relationship exists between them. This finding also implies despite the prior claims that Islamic bank financing is unharmed with the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), the reaction of Islamic bank financing in Malaysia is sensitive towards the global financial crisis but through monetary policy action taken by the government.

CAUSAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN EMPATHY, MOTIVATION AND FUNCTIONAL OUTCOMES IN EARLY SCHIZOPHRENIA IDENTIFIED WITH CAUSAL DISCOVERY MODELING." Abstract:
Abstract Background Schizophrenia is characterized by devastating impairments in occupational and social functioning. These impairments result in poor quality of life, have significant societal burden, and are resistant to current treatments. Although a number of predictors of poor functional outcomes have been identified, the causal relationships between malleable illness variables and functional status must be discovered to establish the most promising candidate treatment targets. The aim of this research is to employ a data-driven causal network approach in the Recovery After an Initial Schizophrenia Episode (RAISE) trial to identify variables that have causal effects on occupational and social functioning. Our second aim was to validate our results in an independent sample drawn from the Clinical Antipsychotic Trials of Intervention Effectiveness (CATIE) study. Methods Measures of neurocognition, motivation, empathy, psychiatric symptoms, duration of untreated psychosis, and social and occupational functioning were obtained for 279 participants with early schizophrenia enrolled in RAISE. Data were analyzed using a machine learning causal discovery algorithm, Greedy Fast Causal Inference, which infers causal relationships among the variables while identifying potential influences of latent variables. Causal effect sizes (ES) were estimated by fitting a linear structural equation model to the causal graph. Graph stability was evaluated by running GFCI on 1000 jackknifed and 1000 bootstrapped datasets. Results were validated using a similar set of variables in 187 participants in the CATIE study who were within five years of initiating antipsychotic treatment. Results Baseline empathy caused baseline motivation (ES = 0.77), which in turn caused both baseline social (ES = 1.5) and occupational (ES = 0.96) functioning. Baseline social and occupational functioning then caused six-month social and occupational functioning, respectively. Additionally, at the six-month time point, social functioning caused motivation (ES = 0.21), which in turn caused occupational functioning (ES = .92). Causal relationships between motivation and social functioning were cyclical through time. The causal structure in the CATIE dataset had some less determinate edge orientations, but otherwise confirmed the findings from RAISE. The jackknife and bootstrap causal graphs showed high concordance with all graph features in the social and occupational functioning subgraphs. Discussion Motivation and empathy at baseline have causal effects on both occupational and social functioning six months after entering treatment in early schizophrenia. In addition, an improvement in social functioning over six-months may drive improvements in occupational functioning. This indicates that future research should test the efficacy of interventions targeting motivation and empathy for promoting functional recovery in early schizophrenia as soon as individuals enter treatment.

Abstract:
The study is dedicated to the performance of glass-fiber catalysts (GFCs) in the practically important reaction of hydrogen oxidation by oxygen in the media of carbon dioxide at elevated pressures. The samples of the catalysts were synthesized using Pt and Pd as active metals and thermostable high-silica glass-fiber textiles both unpromoted and promoted by Zr. The used catalyst preparation methods include surface thermal synthesis and leaching/impregnation approaches. All three tested samples showed approximately equal activity, but the preference was given to Pt-based GFC synthesized by means of surface thermal synthesis method because it uses the much cheaper and widely available glass-fiber textile instead of rare and expensive Zr-promoted materials. Resource testing of this catalyst for more than 200 hours demonstrated its high stability. The reaction rate may be described by kinetic equation corresponding to mass-action law with linear dependence upon the reaction pressure. The studied GFC may be arranged into structured cartridges with low pressure drop and highly intensive heat and mass transfer under the commercial process conditions, so its further practical application looks promising.

Abstract:
Using general fractional calculus (GFC) of the Luchko form and non-holonomic variational equations of Sedov type, generalizations of the standard action principle and first Noether theorem are proposed and proved for non-local (general fractional) non-Lagrangian field theory. The use of the GFC allows us to take into account a wide class of nonlocalities in space and time compared to the usual fractional calculus. The use of non-holonomic variation equations allows us to consider field equations and equations of motion for a wide class of irreversible processes, dissipative and open systems, non-Lagrangian and non-Hamiltonian field theories and systems. In addition, the proposed GF action principle and the GF Noether theorem are generalized to equations containing general fractional integrals (GFI) in addition to general fractional derivatives (GFD). Examples of field equations with GFDs and GFIs are suggested. The energy–momentum tensor, orbital angular-momentum tensor and spin angular-momentum tensor are given for general fractional non-Lagrangian field theories. Examples of application of generalized first Noether’s theorem are suggested for scalar end vector fields of non-Lagrangian field theory.

Abstract:
A kind of FGD gypsum from Ningbo Beilun Power Plant of China and fly ash were used as the raw materials with which a complex cementing material was made. Effect of the related factors such as paste material, water proportion, mineral admixtures (Cement, CaO) and chemical activators (NaOH, CaCl2, Na2SiO3, K2SO4) on characteristics of FGD gypsum-fly ash complex cementing material (noted as FGD-GFCM) is studied through a large number of single factor experiments. The additives with significant effect were chosen and the optimal mix proportion was determined. The experimental results show that an appropriate amount of admixtures can effectively improve the strength of the FGD gypsum–fly ash complex cementing material presented here. It is concluded that the strength of FGD-GFCB for 28d is best as the ratio of gypsum and fly ash is between 2:3 and 1:1 and water aggregate proportion is inversely proportional to the cementing material strength and apparent density of it.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to explore how the regulator of a global financial centre (GFC) under an international trend of adopting emerging technologies for financial services (Fintech) articulates such opportunities and risks strategically. Design/methodology/approach With a literature review on the global regulatory environment and the underlying risks related to Fintech, it looks into the formulation and implementation of complementary regulatory policies in the case of Hong Kong as a GFC. Relevant policy documents disclosed by the financial regulator on cybersecurity and pertinent issues are examined. Findings Adopting a strategic approach that seizes opportunities associated with Fintech, the financial regulator harnesses comprehensive risk-based mechanisms to embrace exposures to cyber risks while promoting institutionalization of cybersecurity among the regulated firms with strategic controls. This study suggests a pathway for the evolution of a profession with both technical and ethical competence for mitigating the emerging risks arising from Fintech. However, such an approach is yet to be tested with respect to efficacy for the unexplored territories of fraud exposures, resulting from swift Fintech developments across borders. Research limitations/implications As Fintech has only emerged rapidly in the recent years, it is not conclusive in this review of performance and effectiveness of the financial regulator in its strategic approach. Further studies may utilize a longitudinal method to analyze and examine the regulatory measures undertaken by financial regulators in various GFCs. Originality/value This study reveals a strategic approach adopted by an emerged GFC in embracing Fintech innovation that however brings about unidentified risks and potential frauds to its financial services sector. Pertinent anti-fraud and cybersecurity measures are highlighted.

Abstract:
The core model of macroeconomics we teach in colleges and universities uses incredible assumptions to reach absurd conclusions. Among those assumptions are, no financial frictions such as credit rationing, individuals had rational expectations or acted as if they did, and representative agent to represent an aggregation of firm or household sector whose optimizing behaviors are micro-founded. With no financial frictions, the model fails to explain a major event such as the 2008 GFC. Why small shocks can have very large effects (amplification) that last so long (persistence), and why deep downturns can occur repeatedly with powerful spillovers and contagion effects? Constructed for analyzing only small fluctuations, the current core model is likely to provide little guidance as to what should be done in response. In this paper, I argue that the key problem with the current macroeconomics is the superficiality of its treatment towards financial sector. It is shown that financial frictions played a significant role in capital flows fluctuations, external shocks created channels of spillover and contagion across countries and across asset classes, capital flows with the presence of financial frictions made monetary policy more challenging, and they could be detrimental to financial stability and the distribution of income. Corrections and adjustments to existing core macroeconomic model should be based on empirical evidence and how the economy works, not on the esthetic riddles of established paradigm.

Abstract:
The main objective of this study is to analyze the global food security index (GFSI), gross domestic product (GDP) and population in selected countries. The 113 countries were selected by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) based on regional diversity, economic importance, population size and regions including the globe. Secondary data were used for analysis. The correlation between GFSI & GDP and GFSI & Population were studied. Top 10 countries and bottom 10 countries were ascertained based on GFSI. Box –plots for outliers were drawn for overall GFSI, Population and GDP. Winsorization technique was applied to minimize the influence of outliers in the data set. Correlation analysis was conducted to know the correlation between GFSI & GDP and GFSI & Population. The correlation between GDP and GFSI is weakly correlated. It is also seen that correlation between population and GFSI is not significant. Further correlation between GDP and Population is significant. GDP is moderately correlated with population. GFSI rank and median rank based on affordability, availability, quality & safety and natural resources & resilience were computed for each country to know the effect on overall food security score. This study was conducted and limited to the year 2019 only.

Abstract:
First, this paper investigated the loan and deposit efficiencies of Malaysian Islamic banks during 2008-2013 applying the non-parametric technique, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), and found that the average technical efficiency (TE) of loan financing was 83%, 88%, 87%, 95%, 100%, and 94% and the average technical efficiency for deposit mobilizations was 87%, 94%, 94%, 96%, 92%, and 96%. Only four banks in 2008, two bank in 2009, three banks in 2010, two banks in 2011-2013 are both technically and scale efficient in loan production. On the other hand, only four banks in 2008 and 2009, five banks in 2010 and 2011, three banks in 2012, and five banks in 2013 are both technical and scale efficient in deposit mobilizations. Second, the paper compares the efficiencies of Islamic banks between the global financial crisis (GFC) and the post global financial crisis (PGFC) in determining whether the efficiencies of banks between the GFCP and PGFCP are stable. Both parametric and non-parametric tests found no significant difference in the efficiencies between the two periods suggesting that the efficiencies of the Malaysian Islamic banks were stable.

Abstract:
Determining whether the Green Finance Reform and Innovation Pilot Zone (GFRI) promotes the green investment (GI) of enterprises is practically important for China to achieve the “double carbon” goal early. This study examines the effect of GFRI on GI by the relevant data of listed heavily polluting enterprises in China from 2011 to 2020 and a difference-in-difference model. The results show that GFRI improves the GI of enterprises, and GFRI can enhance GI by promoting reputational costs and loan scale. The improvement effect is also more significant for state-owned enterprises, enterprises with high financing constraints, enterprises in regions with high environmental regulation intensity, and enterprises with executives’ financial backgrounds. The improvement in GI can further enhance the value of enterprises after the implementation of GFRI. The study provides a direct answer to the key question of whether the GFRI can actually support high-quality economic development.
