The giant axons in both animals are multinucleate, syncytial structures. In both animals, the first-order giants receive a rich afferent innervation. Abstract:
Leptospirosis, also known as Weil’s disease, is a febrile tropical disease of humans and diverse animals. The maintenance hosts of the infectious pathogen, Leptospira spp., are primarily rodents, while other warm-blooded animals and some reptiles are secondary or transient hosts of this pathogen. African giant pouched rats (Cricetomys spp.) have been identified to be important maintenance hosts of pathogenic leptospires in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world. This study assessed the seroprevalence of Leptospira spp. in the African giant pouched rats of the Ngorongoro Conservation

ABSTRACT In view of the scarcity of data about the topography and syntopy of abdominopelvic viscera of the giant anteater (Myrmecophage tridactyla - Linnaeus, 1758), the present study aimed to elucidate these characteristics and to compare them with the other animal species, especially the domestic ones. Three specimens, two males and one female, were donated by the Environmental Military Police of Franca to the Anatomy Veterinary Laboratory of the University of Franca, after death by road killings. Rhamphorhynchus is one of the best-known pterosaurs, with well over 100 specimens being held in public collections. Most of these represent juvenile animals, and the adults known are typically around 1 m in wingspan. Here we describe a near complete skeleton, preserved partially in 3D, of an animal with a wingspan of around 1.8 m, that is considerably larger than other known specimens, and is among the largest known non-pterodactyloid pterosaurs. This animal shows differences in the anatomy not seen in smaller specimens, revealing details of late-stage ontogeny in this genus. The specimen exhi

Forty years ago, scientists discovered an animal at the bottom of the ocean that changed forever how we view life on this planet. Abundant, thriving animals were not expected in the deep sea, due to the very low levels of organic carbon that sink down from above. The giant tubeworm Riftia pachyptila pays little attention to this problem, having renounced its mouth and digestive system during the course of evolution. Instead, this animal relies on a partnership with internal bacteria that act as a built-in source of nourishment and, in exchange, Riftia performs unparalleled physiological feats.

We found that giant pandas did not use the road-affected habitats, and compared with giant panda habitats, road-affected habitats were characterized by lower bamboo density and grazing disturbances. This study describes a case of giant cell osteosarcoma (GCO) localised on the right scapulae in a six-year-old neutered male Scottish Fold cat. GCO is a rare tumour in domestic animals. This tumour is also known as giant cell-rich osteosarcoma. Multinucleated giant cells and osteoid structures are observed in GCO. The mass was 4.6 x 4.4 x 4.3 cm in size and very firm. Microscopically, fusiform spindle-shaped cells and multinucleated giant cells were observed. There were 4-8 mitotic figures in three random high-power fields (400x). Osteoid structures and necrosis were detected in several areas.
