Abstract:
This article is devoted to the problem of the attribution of architectural graphics, the identification and analysis of the individual graphic style of Domenico (Dementi Ivanovich) Gilardi, a master of Swiss origin, the chief architect of post-fire Moscow. In spite of the formal, stylistic and iconographic knowledge of the Moscow Empire style, the issue of attribution of architectural graphics to the period remains open. The work of Gilardi is no exception in this respect. The objective of this research is to use stylistic and iconographic analysis of his most outstanding works to form an idea of the nature of his graphic style and its peculiarities. The relevance of the topic is dictated by the need to distinguish the graphic works of Gilardi himself from the sheets created by his pupil — the architect A. Grigoriev (and in the longer term — to identify the “hand” of A. Grigoriev). The method of formal and stylistic analysis and iconographic comparison was chosen. Artistic sources are the most striking architectural and graphic works by Gilardi, which have not yet been studied in detail: several signed drawings, as well as a draft design of a park pavilion from the collection of the Shchusev State Museum of Architecture (the latter was introduced into academic circles by the author and is central in terms of representation). The style of the unrealised design of the park pavilion reflects the historical perspective of birth, development and decline of the Moscow Empire style in one of its variants. The style distinctly refers to the antique, Renaissance and classic monuments. The following complex of problems is being solved within the framework of the research: the genesis of the post-fire Moscow style is presented, the specific features of the architectural graphics of the first quarter of the 19th century are evaluated; the sketch of the park pavilion and the series of several drawings (so called master’s exemplary graphics) are described and analyzed as the basis for the attribution; the work of Gilardi is examined in the context of the global neoclassicism style development. The conducted study, in which the relationship between architectural and graphic style plays a key role, allows us to form an idea of Gilardi’s individual style and approach a more complex issue of attribution, chronology and style in his constructions. The unity of harmony, beauty and technicality of Gilardi’s works is expressed in the juxtaposition of his manner with the ideal of timeless classicism.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The genus Roseomonas comprises groups of slow-growing, Gram-negative coccobacilli, which only infrequently cause infection in humans. When identified, they are associated with immunocompromised adults, often causing bacteraemia. Due to their rarity, members of this genus can be overlooked or misidentified using automated laboratory identification systems. We report on an immunocompetent adolescent patient who developed septic arthritis due to Roseomonas gilardii following surgery for a sports injury. The isolate was initially misidentified as Bordetella bronchiseptica using the Vitek 2 system, but confirmed as R. gilardii based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a healthy paediatric patient with septic arthritis due to R. gilardii.

Implantation and the use of long-term central venous catheters are associated with complications like bacteremia. Contamination from the skin during handling is the most common source of the organisms causing these infections. Rarely, environmental organisms may cause these infections. Roseomonas gilardii is a rare opportunistic pathogen that can cause bacteremia in immunocompromised patients on long-term central venous catheters. We report the case of a 57-year-old woman diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia who presented with fever and febrile neutropenia. The patient was diagnosed with R. gilardii bacteremia probably from peripherally inserted central catheter line infection.

Aim. Determination of taxonomic position and resistance to Cd2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, CrO42- of isolated bacteria from cadmium-contaminated soils. Methods. Bacterial cultures were isolated by ten-fold dilutions and further cultivation on agarized nutrient medium. Taxonomic position of isolated cultures was determined by molecular-genetic methods using GenBank and BLAST. Bacterial resistance to toxic metals was determined by strains cultivation in liquid medium in the presence of concentration gradient of Cd2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, CrO42-. Results. Isolated cultures were highly resistance to cadmium. These bacterial cultures were identified as Brevundimonas vesicularis and Cupriavidus gilardii by phenotypic and molecular-genetic characteristics. Their resistance was in one order higher comparing to generally accepted. Conclusions. Isolated strains are promising for using in novel industrial biotechnologies for metal containing wastewater treatment. Keywords: metalresistance, toxic metals, taxonomic position, Cupriavidus gilardii, Brevundimonas vesicularis.

Roseomonas gilardii, a Gram-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming, strictly aerobic, and pink-pigmented coccobacillus, isan uncommon species causing human infection. But, occasionally, it has been reported as a causative organism of opportunisticinfection in some countries. We report a case of bacteremia in a 51-year-old woman with endometrial cancer. She visited ouroutpatient clinic, complaining of cough, headache, and febrile sensation for 3 days after palliative chemotherapy performed 8days earlier. Cultures of the blood and the peripherally inserted central catheter were performed and bacteria were isolatedfrom cultures after 5 day incubation. Microbiological tests such as Gram staining, culture, and identification testing revealedRoseomonas gilardii. The patient was treated with antibiotics for 9 days and discharged. This case of Roseomonas gilardiibacteremia from the peripherally inserted central catheter in a patient with endometrial cancer suggests the importance ofdiagnostic tools for accurate identification of unusual causative organisms of bacteremia in immunocompromised patients.

Abstract:
We characterized 49 strains of Shewanella spp. from clinical (n = 31) and nonhuman (n = 18) sources. Most Shewanella alga organisms (Gilardi biovar 2; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] biotype 2) originated from clinical material (92%), failed to produce acid from carbohydrates other than d-ribose, and were biochemically and enzymatically fairly homogeneous. In contrast, Shewanella putrefaciens organisms (Gilardi biovars 1 and 3; CDC biotype 1) were more often associated with nonhuman sources (70%), were able to utilize a number of sugars (sucrose, l-arabinose, and maltose), and were found to exhibit wider variations in biochemical characteristics; three biotypes within S. putrefaciens were detected. Notable differences between the two species in enzymatic activity, determined with the API-ZYM system (bioMérieux, Hazelwood, Mo.), and cellular fatty acid profiles, determined by the MIDI system (Microbial ID Inc., Newark, Del.), were also detected. Pathogenicity studies of mice indicate that S. alga appears to be the more virulent species, possibly due to the production of a hemolytic substance.

Abstract:
Abstract Copper-bearing wastewater from chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) is a typical semiconductor development byproduct. How to effectively treat Cu2+ in the CMP wastewater is a great concern in the microchip manufacturing industry. In this study, we investigated the potential for the microbial removal of Cu2+ by a multiple heavy metal-resistant bacterium Cupriavidus gilardii CR3. The environmental factors, including pH, nano-SiO2, ionic strengths, and initial concentrations of Cu2+, and adsorption times on the bioremoval of Cu2+ in CMP wastewater were optimized. Under optimal condition, the maximum biosorption capacity for Cu2+ was 18.25 mg g−1 and the bioremoval rate was 95.2%. The Freundlich model is described well for the biosorption of Cu2+ in CMP wastewater in the presence of nano-SiO2 (R2 = 0.99). The biosorption process obeyed the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation (R2 > 0.99). In the column experiment, the advection–dispersion–retention model fitted the breakthrough curve of all experiments well (R2 > 0.95). The attachment coefficient in the sand matrix coated by CR3 biofilm was 2.24–2.80 times as that in clean sand. Overall, C. gilardii CR3 is a promising candidate to remove Cu2+ from CMP wastewater. Nano-SiO2 in CMP wastewater did not inhibit the bioremoval of Cu2+ but showed a slight promotion effect instead.

Abstract:
Here, we report the characterization of two Cupriavidus strains, NOV2-1 and OV2-1, isolated from an iron-oxide deposit in an underground tunnel of the Naica mine in Mexico. This unique biotope, characterized by its high temperature (≈50 °C) and the presence of heavy metals, is no longer available for sampling at this time. The genomes of NOV2-1 and OV2-1 comprised two replicons: a chromosome of 3.58 and 3.53 Mb, respectively, and a chromid of 2.1 Mb in both strains. No plasmids were found. The average nucleotide identity and the core genome phylogeny showed that NOV2-1 and OV2-1 belonged to the Cupriavidus gilardii species. NOV2-1 and OV2-1 grew up to 48 °C, with an optimal temperature of 42 °C. Discrete differences were observed between C. gilardii CCUG38401T, NOV2-1, and OV2-1 in the biochemical tests. NOV2-1 and OV2-1 presented resistance to zinc, lead, copper, cadmium, nickel, and cobalt. Several complete and incomplete gene clusters related to the resistance to these heavy metals (ars, czc, cop 1, sil-cop 2, cup, mmf, and mer) were detected in the genome of these strains. Although further studies are needed to determine the origin and role of the detected gene clusters, it is suggested that the czc system may have been mobilized by horizontal gene transfer. This study expands the extreme biotopes where Cupriavidus strains can be retrieved.

Abstract:
The magnetic phase diagram of slightly overdoped La 2-x Sr x CuO 4 (x=0.17) is characterised by a field-induced hexagonal to square transition of the vortex lattice at low fields (~ 0.4 Tesla) [R. Gilardi et al., Phys. Rev. Lett.88, 217003 (2002)]. Here we report on a small angle neutron scattering study of the vortex lattice at higher fields, that reveals no further change of the coordination of the square vortex lattice up to 10.5 Tesla applied perpendicular to the CuO 2 planes. Moreover, it is found that the diffraction signal disappears at temperatures well below Tc, due to the melting of the vortex lattice.

Abstract:
Strain TR53T, a Gram-negative, non-motile, non-spore-forming and strictly aerobic coccobacillus, isolated from the drinking water distribution system of Seville, Spain, was subjected to polyphasic taxonomic analysis using a combination of phenotypic, genotypic and phylogenetic features. Phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain TR53T had highest similarity to members of the genus Roseomonas, with sequence similarity values between 95.7 % (to Roseomonas genomospecies 5 strain ATCC 49960) and 94.0 % (to Roseomonas gilardii subsp. rosea ATCC 49956T). On the basis of its phenotypic characteristics, 16S rRNA gene sequence data and DNA G+C content (68.6 mol%), strain TR53T represents a novel species of the genus Roseomonas, for which the name Roseomonas aquatica sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Roseomonas aquatica is TR53T (=CECT 7131T=JCM 13556T).

Abstract:
Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences of strains TE26T and K6 belonging to Wautersia numazuensis Kageyama et al. 2005 showed the strains to be deeply intermingled among the species of the genus Cupriavidus . The comparison showed that strain TE26T was closely related to the type strains of Cupriavidus pinatubonensis (99.1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), C. basilensis (98.7 %), C. necator (98.7 %) and C. gilardii (98.0 %). However, DNA–DNA hybridization experiments (less than 20 % relatedness) demonstrated that strain TE26T is different from these Cupriavidus species. A comparative phenotypic and chemotaxonomic analysis (based on fatty acid profiles) in combination with the 16S rRNA gene sequence phylogenetic analysis and the DNA–DNA hybridization results supported the incorporation of Wautersia numazuensis into the genus Cupriavidus as Cupriavidus numazuensis comb. nov.; the type strain is TE26T ( = LMG 26411T = DSM 15562T = CIP 108892T).

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
European Union’s energy law stipulates numerous obligations with the intention of achieving a desired level of independence of national regulatory authorities. This article offers an insight into the said obligations as well as into their development and their evaluation. The latter is carried out via two sound benchmarks, i.e. via Gilardi’s test and via the new comprehensive independence test. The new test learns from its antecedents, particularly from the methodological point of view. However, it advocates stricter requirements and, consequently, higher independence standards as developed in the most recent regulatory practice and theory. The evaluation of the past and present supranational legal framework in the field of energy reveals a decent progress on the subject of the formal independence of national regulatory authorities but unfortunately also a significant untapped potential which must be considered when drafting the new supranational rules. Moreover, it can be considered when transposing the new Electricity Directive in the national legal system since in the discussed field the directive in question ‘merely’ aims to achieve a minimal harmonization. And last but not least, lessons learned from the discussed case are transferable to other economic sectors, in particular to (other) utilities sectors.

Abstract:
Four phenotypically similar bacterial strains isolated from fungal, plant, and human sources were identified as Azospirillum species. Strains RC1 and LOD4 were isolated from the mycelium of the apple root pathogen Rhizoctonia solani AG 5 and from the rhizosphere of wheat grown in apple orchard soil, respectively. Strains C610 and F4626 isolated from human wounds were previously misclassified as Roseomonas genomospecies 3 and 6. All four strains demonstrated close similarities in 16S rRNA gene sequences, having [Formula: see text]97% identity to Azospirillum brasilense type strain ATCC 29145 and <90% identity to Roseomonas gilardii, the Roseomonas type strain. Extensive phenotypic similarities among the four strains included the ability of free-living cells to fix N2. Cells of strains RC1, LOD4, and C610 but not of strain F4626 could be induced to flocculate by incubation with 10 mmol·L–1glycerol or fructose in medium containing 0.5 mmol·L–1NO3–. Our results indicate a wide range of potential sources for Azospirillum spp. with the isolation of Azospirillum spp. from human wounds warranting further investigation.Key words: Azospirillum brasilense, Roseomonas fauriae, flocculation, Rhizoctonia solani.
