L'articolo esamina le motivazioni diverse che stanno dietro alle prime grammatiche italiane e spagnole, tra Quattrocento e Cinquecento. La differenza tra le motivazioni che emergono nelle due nazioni è molto evidente. Da una parte, in Spagna, il grammatico Nebrija fa leva su ragioni di ordine politico, e propone la sua grammatica come strumento del potere e come aiuto per chi, suddito di Spagna residente all'estero, dovrà imparare lo spagnolo; dall'altra parte, i grammatici italiani Fortunio e Bembo fanno leva solamente su ragioni di ordine letterario, estetico e poetico. La grammatica italiana e quella spagnola, insomma, nascono con motivazioni e scopi assolutamente differenti.

This article illustrates an unknown page in the fortunes of Giovanni Francesco Commendone’s (1524–84) Discorso sopra la corte di Roma. The analysis starts from the first circulation of the text in Roman circles. It then follows the work’s journey from Rome to the library of one of the most important universities of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Akademia Zamojska. Here the treatise was read along with a small selection of Italian political writings, informing and influencing the scions of the future Polish ruling class.

The article examines the implementation of the category of the tragic in The Monk’s Tale, which is part of The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. The purpose of this work is to clarify the concepts ‘tragedy’ and ‘the tragic’ in the culture of the Late Middle Ages, as well as their interpretation in Chaucer’s oeuvre. The focus is on the specific understanding of these terms in the Middle Ages: since the genre of dramatic tragedy became a thing of the past along with Antiquity, the word ‘tragedy’ began to be used by poets and scribes of the Middle Ages to specify a distinct type of narration that deals with the power of fate as the main theme. The need to identify what works Chaucer used as examples to follow, as well as to study the peculiarity of the category of the tragic in The Monk’s Tale, determined the choice of methods for the analysis of the material. The research employs culture-historical, comparative-typological, and biographical methods of analysis. It has been established that, relying on the Latin (Boethius) and Italian models (Francesco Petrarca, Giovanni Boccaccio), Chaucer perceived ‘tragedy’ as a variation of the ‘fall of princes’ story. Both Chaucer and Boccaccio were interested in the study of earthly life, the search for a connection between human behavior and human fate, and the image of Fortune. However, the Italian poet did not call his works ‘tragedies’, while Chaucer did: his character, the Monk, tells seventeen stories about the victims of Fortune, among which there were both sinners and relatively innocent people. Our analysis has shown that the main point in Chaucer’s understanding of the category of the tragic is the fundamental incomprehensibility of the ways of fate. Focusing on the category of the tragic, Chaucer receives the opportunity to explore the irrationality of human existence.

Abstract Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most lethal human malignancies: novel therapeutic approaches beyond conventional chemotherapy are still lacking and prognosis remains poor, even for resectable patients (pts). Furthermore, there is an almost complete absence of validated predictive factors. Consequently, robust biomarkers for the early diagnosis and the prognostic stratification are urgently needed in clinical practice, especially in the context of neoadjuvant and adjuvant settings. In the last years, evidence revealed the crucial role of miRNAs in cancer initiation and progression, as well as in the chemo-resistance mechanisms, suggesting their use as clinical biomarkers. Material and methods: In this pilot study, we performed a microarray analysis to characterize global miRNA expression profile from surgical tissue samples collected from 20 resected PDAC pts pooled into 4 groups according to different clinico-pathological features: nodal metastases (N+/N-) and tumor grading (G2/G3). Results: According to expression patterns, we identified, among 384 miRNAs, a significant different modulation for 11 miRNAs associated to G2 vs G3 and for 7 miRNAs in N+ vs N- disease, suggesting a possible specific signature reflecting histological grade and nodal metastasis occurrence, respectively. We focused on 2 up-regulated (miR-138-5p and miR-518-3p) and 3 down-regulated (miR-215-5p, miR-519a-3p and miR-576-5p) miRNAs in N+ pts, and on 3 up-regulated (miR-1-3p, miR-31-5p and miR-205-5p) in G3 pts, in order to verify their possible implication in the molecular changes behind tumor differentiation and spread, as well as their potential use for prognostic and therapeutic purpose. A bio-informatic analysis was also performed, using different in silico tools, to study both high affinity miRNA targets and cross-regulated pathways among the upand down-regulated miRNAs. The results identified several associated targets involved in multiple signaling pathways commonly dysregulated in cancer. Finally, BRCA1/2 and RB1 miRNAs-mediated-modulation is actually ongoing, considering the pivotal role of these genes in some PDAC pts. Conclusion: These preliminary data provide a strong rationale to further investigate miRNAs expression in larger cohorts of PDAC pts, possibly integrating validated tissue miRNAs data with circulating miRNAs, in order to identify strong (and easily accessible) potential biomarker(s) with prognostic and/or predictive significance. Au milieu du XVIIe siècle, le peintre Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (1612 – 1661) – un des élèves les plus célèbres de Pietro da Cortona – entretient avec la France un rapport privilégié, nourri tant par l’envoi de ses œuvres directement d’Italie, que par ses deux séjours parisiens, qui lui ont donné la possibilité de travailler dans le palais de Mazarin (1646-1647) ainsi que dans celui du Louvre (1655-1657). Ces chantiers, qui représentent l’un des moments-clés des relations et des échanges culturels franco-italiens, ont permis à Romanelli de connaître un certain succès jusqu’au XVIIIe siècle, comme le témoignent non seulement la présence de ses œuvres dans les collections et sur le marché de l’art français, mais aussi les premières biographies de l’artiste écrites par des auteurs transalpins.Cette thèse porte sur la réception critique et artistique de Romanelli dans le milieu français, à partir des années 1640, jusqu’à la fin du siècle suivant. Différents aspects du sujet ont été traité : les commandes passées à Romanelli en France et la circulation de ses œuvres dans les collections françaises, ainsi que la littérature artistique et la fortune visuelle de l’artiste en France, notamment à travers les gravures. Dans un premier temps le travail de recherche s’est concentré sur la présence effective d’œuvres de Romanelli en France aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles : bien évidemment les grands décors peints – celui du palais épiscopal de Carpentras, celui du palais de Mazarin et celui exécuté pour les appartements d’été de la reine Anne d’Autriche au Louvre – mais aussi les tableaux d’autel et les peintures attribués au peintre autrefois dans les collections particulières, qui montrent la diffusion de l’œuvre de Romanelli en France.L’étude da littérature artistique française des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles, dans toute sa variété (biographies, guides, journaux de voyage ou poèmes), a permis non seulement de redécouvrir les différents jugements sur les qualités reconnues, ou niées, à Romanelli par les critiques de l’époque, mais également de constater leur étroite dépendance des avis que l’on pouvait avoir sur d’autres artistes considérés comme des possibles modèles de référence : son maître Pietro da Cortona, ou bien Guido Reni, le peintre italien le plus célèbre en France à l’époque. Un autre aspect fondamental pour comprendre la fortune de l’artiste a été l’étude de la diffusion de son œuvre par le biais de la gravure. C’est ainsi qu’une attention particulière a été réservée aux estampes d’interprétation exécutées par les graveurs français, et notamment à la sélection faite à partir de la production de Romanelli, ce qui a permis de mettre en évidence la présence ainsi que l’absence, tout aussi éloquente, de certaines peintures. L’analyse et la confrontation de ces différents aspects ont permis de définir un aperçu le plus exhaustif possible de la réception critique et visuelle de l’artiste dans la période étudiée<br>One of the most renowned among Pietro da Cortona’s pupils, the painter Giovanni Francesco Romanelli (1612 – 1662) developed a privileged relationship with France during the middle decades of the seventeenth century. Not only Romanelli sold many of his artworks to French patrons, he also worked in Paris on several occasions, even realising large decorative programmes for the Mazzarino Palace (1646-1647) and for the Louvre Palace (1655-1657). These artistic endeavours represent pivotal events in the context of the relationships and cultural exchanges between France and Italy in this period. Romanelli’s art and persona still enjoyed some success in France during the eighteenth century. This is evidenced by the presence of his works in numerous French collections and in the French art market, as well as by the publication in this period of literary accounts on his art and life written in French.The present thesis seeks to illustrate the reputation and reception of Romanelli’s persona and art in the French context from 1640 till the last decades of the eighteenth century. The research project hence focuses on the French patronage and collecting of works by Romanelli, on the painter’s persona and art as recounted in contemporary artistic literature, as well as on the diffusion of the artist’s works through print reproductions in France during the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The thesis begins by examining three case studies: Romanelli’s frescoes for the episcopal palace in Carpentras and his decorative programmes for the Cardinal Mazzarino’s Palace and for the summer apartments of the queen mother Anna from Austria at the Louvre. Then the dissertation moves on to explore two additional groups of artworks: French altarpieces attributed to Romanelli, as well as paintings by him which were included in seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French collections. Both testify for the abundant presence of Romanelli’s art in France over the period examined.The investigation of seventeenth- and eighteenth-century French artistic literature referring to Romanelli, consisting in publications belonging to various literary genres (biographies, guides, travelogues and epic poems), allows to unearth contemporary French commentators’ various opinions on the artistic qualities recognised or denied to the Italian artist. Romanelli’s qualities and persona were shaped in association with those of painters understood as being his artistic models, such as his master Pietro da Cortona or other painters akin to his style like Reni. Finally, this thesis looks at the diffusion of Romanelli’s oeuvre through print reproductions, which helps to shed further light on the reputation of the Italian painter’s persona and art in France during the seventeenth and eighteenth century. The present work particularly focuses on prints after Romanelli’s works made by French engravers, as well as on the rationale guiding the selection among his corpus of works to be reproduced through print. In order to understand the meanings behind these selective choices, it is important to take into account not only the works which ended up being reproduced, but also those which were instead neglected.Analysing and comparing findings from these four key aspects of Romanelli’s presence in the seventeenth and eighteenth century French artistic context has allowed to build up a thorough description of the painter’s textual and visual reputation in this country during the two centuries examined

Il pittore Giovanni Francesco Romanelli, tra i più noti allievi di Pietro da Cortona, maturò un rapporto privilegiato con la Francia nei decenni centrali del XVII secolo, sia attraverso l’invio di opere dall’Italia sia grazie ai soggiorni parigini, che lo portarono a realizzare grandi imprese decorative nel Palazzo Mazzarino (1646-1647) e in quello del Louvre (1655-1657). Queste creazioni rappresentano uno dei momenti chiave delle relazioni e degli scambi culturali tra Francia e Italia. Anche nel Settecento il pittore conobbe un discreto successo come testimoniano le collezioni e il mercato dell’arte, ma anche le prime biografie francesi. La presente ricerca indaga la fortuna e la ricezione in ambito francese della produzione artistica di Romanelli, a partire dagli anni Quaranta del Seicento fino agli ultimi decenni del secolo successivo. Il tema trattato si articola nei seguenti campi d’indagine: le committenze e il collezionismo di opere del viterbese in Francia, la letteratura artistica e la fortuna visiva attraverso le incisioni. Primo oggetto di studio sono state le decorazioni eseguite da Romanelli in Francia quali i cicli di pitture del palazzo vescovile di Carpentras, del palazzo del cardinale Mazzarino e dell’appartamento estivo della regina madre Anna d’Austria al Louvre. In seguito sono state prese in considerazione le pale d’altare attribuite al pittore e i dipinti nelle collezioni francesi tra XVII e XVIII secolo, che dimostrano l’elevata presenza di opere di Romanelli in Francia nei due secoli. La letteratura artistica francese di Sei e Settecento, studiata nelle sue molteplici forme letterarie (biografie, guide, diari di viaggio o poemi), ci ha restituito i differenti giudizi espressi sulle qualità riconosciute o negate a Romanelli, in stretta dipendenza con l’immagine che la stessa letteratura riservava al suo maestro Pietro da Cortona o ad altri artisti, come Reni, ritenuti possibili modelli di riferimento per il viterbese. Altro importante aspetto utile per cogliere la fortuna dell’artista è stato lo studio della diffusione della sua opera attraverso la stampa, con particolare attenzione alle traduzioni eseguite dagli incisori francesi e alla selezione operata a partire dal corpus di opere di Romanelli, mettendo in rilievo le presenze e le altrettanto eloquenti assenze. L’analisi e il confronto di questi differenti campi hanno permesso di costruire un quadro il più possibile esaustivo della fortuna critica, tanto testuale e quanto visiva, dell’artista nel periodo in esame.
