The article offers proposals for a new approach to evaluating GIS programs in cartographic functions. The newly proposed CartoEvaluation method is a comprehensive guide in monitoring all cartographic features and in subsequent selection of the program. The CartoEvaluation method is based on Gold-Question-Metric method. CartoEvaluation method was applied for assessment of some desktop GIS software. The result of assessment brings the rank of software. Method can help a user in the choice of GIS program when a user requires a higher cartographic functionality.

Abstract:
Cloud computing is a novel network-based computing model, in which the cloud infrastructure is constructed in bottom level and provided as the support environment for the applications in upper cloud level. The combination of clouding computing and GIS can improve the performance of GIS, and it can also provide a new prospect of GIS information storage, processing and utilization. By integrating cloud computing and GIS, this paper presented a cloud computing based GIS model based on two features of cloud computing: data storage and transparent custom service. The model contains two layers: service layer and application layer. With this two-layer model, GIS can provide stable and efficient services to end users by optimized network resource allocation of underlying data and services in cloud computing.

Geographic information system (GIS) software packages can be prohibitively expensive, causing many to shy away from mapping and spatial analysis. This 7-page fact sheet written by Jeffry M. Flenniken, Steven Stuglik, and Basil V. Iannone III and published by the UF/IFAS School of Forest Resources and Conservation introduces the reader to a free GIS software package called Quantum GIS (QGIS), walking the reader through simple GIS processes that can be used to visualize spatial patterns of importance to a variety of fields, including natural resources, agriculture, and urban planning. Learn how to create a land-cover map for a county of interest and create heatmaps that illustrate the density of a given attribute (Florida Springs for this example). This publication will benefit those interested in incorporating GIS into their work but who are unable to afford expensive proprietary GIS software packages, as well as anyone interested in learning a new GIS software package. https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fr428

Abstract Gas-insulated electrical appliances (GIS) have the characteristics of small footprint and low cost. Therefore, GIS is widely used in intelligent substations. However, once the GIS fails, there will be shortcomings of long maintenance cycle, which seriously affects the normal life and production activities. Based on this, on the basis of summarizing and analyzing the GIS intelligent technology, this paper studies the correlation analysis method of the mechanical characteristic waveform of the intelligent GIS equipment circuit breaker from the aspects of equipment intelligence, device development and software development, corresponding theoretical guidance is provided for the practical application of intelligent GIS equipment circuit breakers.

Abstract:
With the development of Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning technologies, mobile geographic information systems (GISs) have developed rapidly. Moreover, mobile GIS applications serve all walks of life including remote sensing, geological disaster management, and decision support systems. This article discusses the main development methods of the Android system for mobile GIS, analyzes the characteristics of different development methods, and mainly introduces the technology of developing mobile GIS based on free and open-source software (FOSS) framework. Finally, we present a data collection framework for an Android application development, based on QGIS, QFiled, GeoServer, PostgreSQL, and GeoPackage. The mobile GIS can collect important data. Furthermore, the data collection framework uses a data aggregation technique to filter and remove redundant data. Machine learning approaches are integrated in the GIS to make it intelligent. The application, in the Xishan mining area of Taiyuan, proves that the proposed framework can complete the collection and storage of geological disaster data, which has certain practical significance. Our experimental results show that the data aggregation method is approximately 42.3–44.09 percent (training times) more efficient than the no aggregation approach. Moreover, the attention network may produce an additional overhead in the prediction process, depending on the model. This overhead is observed between 0.58% and 2.83% for the LSTM model.

Abstract:
This article contends that planning for power systems is essentially a projection of how the system should grow over a specific period of time, given certain assumptions and judgments about the future load and the size of investment in generating capacity additions, transmission facilities expansion and reinforcements. Transmission line routing is one of the most important strategic decision-making problems for both private and public sectors. The major objective of a utility is to supply demand for power with a good quality of service, through proper planning of the system. This has led to development of methods which can be used to aid the decision-making process for selecting the best alternative. Geographical Information System (GIS)-based electricity transmission system planning strategies are proposed in this article to determine an optimum routing of feeders. Existing and proposed layouts have been drawn using a GIS-based software, Quantum Geographic Information System (Q-GIS). The developed system is based on the routing of transmission lines from Barh thermal power plant situated in Bihar, India.

Abstract:
People are important in towns. They are the foundation of the social and economic processes that drive the urban system and sustain the urban fabric. While people spend much of their time inside buildings ‐ at home, at work, and at play ‐ it is the movement of people, whether in vehicles or on foot, that is indicative of the vibrancy of the town. Comfort and safety are important for people movement. The crash data in cities, provinces started with the Traffic Organization of Inner Ministry looking at access management controls on functionally classified streets. Safety is a driving factor in access management and the crash reports are the best indicator of the lack of safe roads. This paper presents the development and findings of crash data from police reports and how they are being used in Geographic Information System (GIS). This tool generates a contour map identifying areas of high crash occurrence determined by crash density and clusters of crashes involving pedestrians or bicyclists. Summary statistics of the selected zones can be generated and displayed in a table or chart form.

Abstract:
Geographical information system (GIS)-based noise simulation software (N-GNOIS) has been developed to simulate the noise scenario due to point and mobile sources considering the impact of geographical features and meteorological parameters. These have been addressed in the software through attenuation modules of atmosphere, vegetation and barrier. N-GNOIS is a user friendly, platform-independent and open geospatial consortia (OGC) compliant software. It has been developed using open source technology (QGIS) and open source language (Python). N-GNOIS has unique features like cumulative impact of point and mobile sources, building structure and honking due to traffic. Honking is the most common phenomenon in developing countries and is frequently observed on any type of roads. N-GNOIS also helps in designing physical barrier and vegetation cover to check the propagation of noise and acts as a decision making tool for planning and management of noise component in environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies.

Abstract:
for settlements located near mines and quarries, it is often necessary to zoning areas that are affected by mining operations. Most often, their influence is manifested in the form of subsidence of the earth's surface, sometimes sinkholes. It is particularly relevant for the "factory-type" towns of the Urals, where historically industrial settlements developed together and on the basis of mining and metallurgical industries, often having common borders. After decades, and sometimes centuries, the justified and safe use of these territories causes serious problems due to fragmentation and lack of information about their condition. A similar problem was encountered by the Berezovskiy town in the Middle Urals, most of whose territory was undermined. The closure and subsequent flooding of part of the mines of the previously city-forming gold mine led to the need to study its territory. To do this, a method was developed and zoning was performed in a step-by-step manner in the geoinformation system, and the consequences of flooding were established. In the process of implementation, all the engineering-geological, geodetic and other information provided by the mine was used. The results are unique due to the uniqueness and heterogeneity of the parameters of underground workings, sinkholes on the earth's surface caused by workings that are densely located on the studied territory.
