Full textPaper analyzes the specifics of playing bass guitar. The bass guitar is a very popular musical instrument nowadays. It is the core of music groups of different styles. The given instrument helps to keep the overall rhythm, pulse and vitality of the company. It was hence really interesting and useful for me to get insight into the path “taken” by this musical instrument. Aim: To analyse the essential characteristics of playing the bass guitar. Goals: to review the historical development of the bass guitar; to discuss the most important types of the instrument; to explore the merits of the most famous bass guitar players and their contribution to the evolution of the bass guitar; to investigate the styles and teaching methodologies of playing the bass guitar. The bachelor thesis presents a review of the historical development of the bass guitar, discusses the types of the bass guitar, and introduces the world famous bass guitarists. Section Two analyses the specifics of playing the bass guitar. Much attention is paid to the overview of music styles dominated by the bass guitar. The thesis also aims to explore the techniques of playing the bass guitar, and their individual specific characteristics and features.

Full textIn this doctoral dissertation three basic elements of Romaní identity are analized. These elements need a new reconceptualization due to the evidence observed in social reality. These are the meanstream interpretation of Romaní identity in the Census or Social Research through the recollection of ethnic data, the assimilation theory in the Romaní case and the construction of a panethnic identity between those Romà with spanish nationality and those Romà immigrants coming from East and Central Europe. Through the data recollection and the fieldwork done we can achieve the following conclusions: a) Meanstream interpretation needs to be redefined due to the different existing metholodologies on ethnic identity recollection in the Census and Social Research; b) Upward social mobility in the Romaní case is segmented. We cannot affirm that upward mobility follows the straight line theory but it follow a multi-linear path in which we can find: Selective aculturation, full acculturation and the path that we have called constricted ethnicity. Finally, c) The construction of a Romaní panethnic identity is observed through an ethnographic fieldwork in La Mina (Sant Adrià del Besòs) and Sant Roc (Badalona) -Barcelona, Spain- . This construction is based on the interaction that subjects have and how they are promoting its institutionalization specially in the religious sphere.

Full textThe question of the construction of a Catalan Gypsy identity, has led us to wonder about the modalities of identity construction taken in the wider fields formed by the triangle Payous/Tsiganes. Gypsies. The objective of this approach is to show how the gypsies made, play and use their identities. But also how they are appointed by and for the group as well by and for the actors of hospital and religious institutions, we studied, insofar they are good examples of how gypsies and especially gypsies women play both on their group identity and their personal identities. By putting at the cebnter of our thinking, existence, construction and expression of gypsies identities, exposing and transcending differences established in the triangle Payous/Tziganes/Gypsies, we are commiter to show what being a gyspsy woman todat in Berriac, and more broadly what to do (the) gyspsy today. We have focused our study on becoming a gypsy women since their role in identity formation is important. It is indeed much more "visible", recognizable and expressed than in men. Our goal is to characterize the "doing gypsy", we then highlighted the gypsy identity strategies and modalities of change in Berriac. The important thing is to show the existence and operation of a single process, shared by all and which led to a certain diversity within the same culture

Full textThis study aims to enhance the music teacher’s understanding of student's perception of the advantages of today's conventional teaching methods. In my study I have assumed elements that I have found in previous studies that have shown to be important for music education quality. Through interviews, a number of students had described their understanding of specific tasks, like learning his/her first chord on the guitar. The difference between learning to play new chords on the guitar now and in the beginning. The results of the interviews were then compared with what was previously highlighted as important elements in achieving good quality music teaching. The results of this comparison show a consistent with previous research. A lot of elements mentioned in previous research were already implemented in the school studied, which was reflected in the results of the interviews. The conclusion of this is that with a well prepared plan for music education students are given good opportunities to succeed, which can make the difference between high achieving and low achieving students decreases. A didactic dilemma highlighted in my research is how the music teacher should deal with individual help.

Despite the proliferation of researches on the Gypsy ethnic group, no author has still been able to answer the central question on their reality: who is a Gypsy and, mainly, what means to be a Gypsy. This doctoral thesis reflects on that reality from five slopes: epistemology (analysis of the origin, the mechanisms and the sense of the knowledge among Gypsies, to interpret how the concepts of true and lie are understood by them), anthropology (analysis of the form to conceive, among Gypsies, the concepts of person, freedom, work, community and history, whereas elements who form the Gypsy cosmovision), ethics (analysis of the concepts of free act, norms of coexistence and moral and political education, to interpret how the concepts of good and evil are understood by Gypsies themselves), aesthetic (the analysis of the perception forms, the aesthetic criterion and the forms of expression, to interpret how the concepts of beauty and ugliness are understood within the Gypsy culture) and the philosophy of the religion (analysis of the Gypsy attitudes before the Absolute and brings back to consciousness mainly of the own finitude, interpreting how the important answer are formed). All this is preceded, in a previous way, by a historical and a demographic approach that helps to understand the frame in which the Gypsy existence unfolds. The use of this methodology allows to surpass the paradigms of ethnology and sociology that have dominated the reflection on Gypsy thematic from mid century XX until the present time. Through personal observations, the testimonies of Gypsy people and of whom they have worked with them, as well as of the critical analysis of books and articles on this matter and of the artistic and literary production of the Gypsies themselves, we will interpret the deep attitudes that ―more or less consciously― lie down the Gypsy mentality, so as to singularize a definition of the «Gypsyness» or «Gypsy essence» that can be used for all the Gypsy people in the world, despite their diversity. This common identity rood is what we call romipēn, a sort of thinking that it impregnates all the dimensions of Gypsy existence.

Full textSoftube has developed DSP-card and software for simulation of the sound of old tube amplifiers. The purpose with this thesis is to design a compact amplifier with high power to function together with the DSP-card and build a unit that can replace several other guitar amplifiers. The advantages with that kind of solution could be that it would be cheaper, easier to carry and easier to stor than the real amplifiers. The amplifier that has been designed is of class D type with digital PWM modulator. There is several types of amplifier modules on the market that use analog input signal, but if one of them would be used a D-A converter is needed on the DSP card. The resultate of this thesis is an amplifier with 400 W output power, with 0.4% distorsion on 1 kHz and with 70% of the maximum signal. The report contains of three main blocks. The first block with general information of class D amplifiers, next block with the construction of this amplifier, and the last block with messurements of the amplifier.

Full textIn the early 80’s in Spain a law was approved to ensure the schooling for all Roma children. But since that moment, some serious difficulties have been registered in these educational contexts with Roma students. The most general problems detected in literature (Abajo, 1996; Fernández Enguita, 2000; Lalueza y Crespo, 2009; Salinas, 2009) have been: an early drop out of school, chronic absenteeism, and academic failure. Our educational system is clearly ethnocentric and stalled, so it has historically accused Roma children and their families to the disaffection of schooling, due to biological or sociocultural reasons (Poveda, 2001). However, from a Cultural Historical perspective (Vygotsky, 1979; Ogbu, 1994; Wertscht, 2005) and from a Sistemic perspective (Bronfenbrenner, 1987), we assume that these explanations are segregationist, so we rather consider historical, cultural, contextual and interactive factors to study any Activity System. At this point, it is absolutely necessary to involve the school in the collective responsibility of academic failure of Roma children. Thus, this PhD dissertation is nourished from the framework of continuities and discontinuities between school and family, in order to attend the mismatches produced among Roma children for the fact of belonging to two different and opposite socializations contexts. The general objectives of this study are: “Analyzing those factors that favor continuity and discontinuity between school and family, in contexts with Roma children in the metropolitan area of Barcelona”, and “determine a set of factors that allow analyzing continuity and discontinuity between Roma families and their schools of reference”. To achieve it, this investigation has studied three areas in the surroundings of Barcelona (Sant Roc, Besòs‐La Mina, Bon Pastor), and it has included discourses of teachers, Roma families, Roma children and ethnographies at the classroom context. The access to this material has been possible through the Action-Research project Shere Rom (Padrós, Sánchez-Busqués y Luque, 2012), carried out by DEHISI team from Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, at different sites at risk of social exclusion. With this data, a qualitative research has been developed, concretely based on case studies (Stake, 1994; Yin, 2006). Following a bottom-up strategy proposed by the Grounded Theory (Pidgeon y Henwood, 1997), a set of categories has been generated, and divided in three different content groups: categories referred to culture, categories referred to intercultural relationships, and categories referred to school. From the breakdown of all categories, some subcategories have emerged, in order to place the responses of participants in the study according to factors that favor cultural continuities or discontinuities between school and Roma family. In conclusion, in this study, a set of elements are presented to analyze educational context with Roma children, attending to the extend they contribute to continuity or discontinuity, and assuming a certain level of transferability of the model to other similar contexts. This resultant model has been called ACDEF-G (Analysis of Continuities and Discontinuities between School and Gypsy Family). Finally, it has been deduced from the analysis, that one of the participant schools meets more elements that favor continuity between school and Roma family that the other two, and some reasons are explained to this respect.

Full textTime and again, electric guitarists have had to live with the stigma of being deficient note readers. Presumedly, this should be solvable with a little practice, but how should one structure such practice and does it produce results? Their counterparts in the classic genre do not inherit the same label, thanks to their long tradition of reading sheet music. Could the answer lie with the classical guitar's teaching methods that need only to be translated into electric guitar for the sheet music reading to take off? In this self-study, I explore my own exercise in sight reading for both electric and classical guitars with the help of a video diary, analyzed from a multimodal perspective.

Full textIn this artistic work I’ll explain my process of rehearsing and going through various technical aspects of the "Five Bagatelles for Guitar" by W. Walton. In the introduction I’ll try to give a comprehensive history of my relationship with music, especially guitar. I will also discuss experiences with people I have met who influenced me in my musical direction. After that I’ll write about Sir William Walton and what kind of composer and man he was, it feels natural to know who he was to understand the way he composed. Then follows an overall shape analysis with text and view sample, where I with the help of text explain the musical motifs and discuss various technical difficulties I encountered during the time of rehearsal.

Full textThis research applies to the social concept of identity for sedentary and nomadic gypsies, when their new social practic es are at variance with their traditional ones. Sedentarisation, indeed, infers a modification of external circumstances and constitutes a particularly implicating even t for these groups. In the same time, the sedentary gypsies perceive this condition as irreversible, impeding the coming back to the previou s practices. The subject of this thesis is the study of the evolution of the social concept of gypsy identity, and the depiction of the mechanism of its transformation. This work borrows its theorical foundations from the central cell theory (abric, 1976, 1984, 1992), (flament, 1987, 1992), and is methodologically based on semi-directive interviews and questionnaire. Full textMy essay concerns the topic ergonomics and body awareness amongst guitarists. Ihave conducted a quantitative survey that aims to explore how actively practicing electric guitarists and classical guitarists describe their physical health regarding ergonomic problems. The questionnaire was distributed to the students at Sweden's six music colleges who either have electric guitar or classical guitar as their main instrument and studies at a musician education program or equivalent and guitar students at three colleges. I was interested to see how common it is with injuries and disorders among guitarists as well as to see any differences between classical and electric guitar because my past experience tells me that the topic ergonomics is more commonly used in classical guitar teaching than the electric guitar teaching. The results of the survey show that many suffer from problems due to their guitar playing. In the background I have used literature concerning the subject ergonomics, both from a guitarist point of view but also from a more general perspective.

Indeed, if at first glance one would think that this society is organized so anarchic, the survey carried out within this people has demonstrated that in reality, this is not the case. The rules that members of this people respect since the dawn of time have to essential object to preserve the cultural cohesion of the group. To support this demonstration, this thesis is articulated in two parts: The first part concerns the customary law intra Community, represented mainly by the family law, people are composed in the facts that a multitude of families claiming a common identity.

Full textThe Romani population is the most discriminated minority in Europe, sharing centuries of history with the majority society and in which it has suffered many kinds of discrimination and persecution. Considering the context of marginalisation and silence that Romani voices have experienced, this work aims to deepen the debates in the communication field in order to comprehend media and cultural consumption by Romani people and how this consumption contributes to or interferes in their way of relating to the majority society. To analyse such consumption, we used two methodological approaches: ethnography and semi-structured interviews. The sample consists of twenty Romani men and women who resided in the Barcelona province, in Catalonia, at the time of the research. They answered questions related to their preferences for contents in diverse media such as television, radio, print press, magazines, and internet. They were also asked to talk about their leisure time such as cinema, theatre, music, reading, and other activities. Moreover, the interviews led to reflections about discrimination and the Romani representativeness on media. Despite their historical, social and economic context of marginalization, it was possible to verify that Romani people do not reject the mainstream culture, even though it is almost completely produced from a non-Romani’s perspective. If we consider the importance of mass media and cultural products as sources of social cohesion, we conclude that the Romani population does not seek to be isolated from the majority society. In addition, we did not detect that this community particularly follows productions that are directly related to their population, although there is an interest to contents related to their identity. From the citizenship’s standpoint, we noted that the sample that we interviewed has a quite critical view about the way their people are, on the one hand, portrayed and, on the other, invisibilised by the media. Our interviewees showed to be aware of the discriminatory processes reinforced and/or created by mass media.
