Porous Wall Hollow Glass Microspheres (PWHGMs) were developed by the Savannah River National Laboratory. What makes these microspheres unique is the interconnected porosity spread throughout their wall allowing various materials to travel from the surface to the hollow interior. With their characteristic porosity, the PWHGMs are a great tool for encapsulating or filtrating different materials. Unfortunately, there is little information available on the mechanical properties of PWHGMs. The main goal of this research was to develop a method to crush individual microspheres and statistically anal

In criminal investigations involving glass evidence, refractive index (RI) is the property of glass most commonly used by forensic examiners to determine the association between control samples of glass obtained at the crime scene, and samples of glass found on a suspect. In this thesis, we attempt to determine whether this variability is spatially determined or random in nature, the conclusion of which plays an important role in the statistical interpretation of glass evidence. Because of mathematical complexity most of the studies are about linear behavior rather than nonlinear behavior of curved beam and shell units. Deterioration of concrete bridge decks has become a serious problem in the past few decades. Fortunately, non-corrosive, light-weight Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) material provides an excellent alternative. More than 117 bridges in the USA have been built or repaired with FRP. In Canada, no FRP bridge deck has been used in the field, yet. However, Wardrop Engineering Inc., Faroex Ltd., and ISIS Canada have successfully designed, manufactured, and patented the filament-wound Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bridge deck. Since there is no design code for FRP bridge decks, a finite eleme
