Abstract:
The project focuses on developing glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composite pipes including a range of joining systems. A few of the many advantages of GFRP composite pipes are their non-corrosiveness, magnetic transparency, and high strength-to-weight ratio. As a part of this project, GFRP pipes and joints were designed, manufactured, and evaluated under static loads. Emphasis was placed in the evaluation of stress-rupture (burst pressure) of GFRP composite pipes that could withstand internal pressures as high as 5000 psi. The report also includes the design and testing of high-pressure

Singh, Niranjan. A Method of Sound Wave Diffusion in Motor Vehicle Exhaust Systems. Unitec ePress, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.34074/ocds.072.

Full text
Abstract:
It is common practice among young vehicle owners to modify the exhaust system of their vehicle to reduce exhaust backpressure with the perception that the output power increases. In the process of backpressure reduction, the output noise (Whakapau) of the vehicle also increases correspondingly. The conflict of interest that arises from modified vehicle exhaust systems and the general public is well publicised. This prototype was designed to meet the demands of exhaust back pressure reduction while at the same time mitigate the sound output of the vehicle. The design involves lining a cylindric

Evens, Tim, Pol Vanwersch, Sylvie Castagne, and Albert Van Bael. Material selection for injection molding hollow microneedles. Universidad de los Andes, 2024. https://doi.org/10.51573/andes.pps39.gs.im.4.

Full text
Abstract:
Hollow microneedles are designed to perform intradermal medical substance delivery or fluid extraction, with polymers standing out as cost-effective materials for mass production via injection molding. However, existing research lacks a comparative analysis of different polymers in terms of processability and performance in skin penetration tests. This study addresses this gap by evaluating hollow microneedles fabricated from five biocompatible thermoplastic materials: polycarbonate (PC), polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), polylactic acid (PLA), polyamide 12 (PA12), and glass-fiber reinforced p

Abstract:
This report analyses the Technological Innovation System (TIS) of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) in Austria. The study’s scope is consistent with the IEA PVPS Task 15 report [1].The analysis aims to facilitate and support the innovation, development, and implementation of industrial solutions of BIPV technologies. In Austria, the use of BIPV is still a niche application and covers under 2% of all implemented PV systems [1]. BIPV technology in Austria has historically developed with the support of different public financial incentives, national and European. The history of BIPV is som

Husson, Scott M., Viatcheslav Freger, and Moshe Herzberg. Antimicrobial and fouling-resistant membranes for treatment of agricultural and municipal wastewater. United States Department of Agriculture, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2013.7598151.bard.

Full text
Abstract:
This research project introduced a novel membrane coating strategy to combat biofouling, which is a major problem for the membrane-based treatment of agricultural and municipal wastewaters. The novelty of the strategy is that the membrane coatings have the unique ability to switch reversibly between passive (antifouling) and active (antimicrobial) fouling control mechanisms. This dual-mode approach differs fundamentally from other coating strategies that rely solely on one mode of fouling control. The research project had two complementary objectives: (1) preparation, characterization, and tes

Robert Duncan Milne (1844-99), from Cupar, Fife, was a pioneering author of science fiction stories, most of which appeared in San Francisco’s Argonaut magazine in the 1880s and ’90s. SF historian Sam Moskowitz credits Milne with being the first full-time SF writer, and his contribution to the genre is arguably greater than anyone else including Stevenson and Conan Doyle, yet it has all but disappeared into oblivion. Milne was fascinated by science. He drew on the work of Scottish physicists and inventors such as James Clark Maxwell and Alexander Graham Bell into the possibilities of electroma
