Full textEven if a cryptographic algortihm could be mathematically secure, its physical implementation could be targeted by several attacks. This thesis focus on time-based fault injection mechanisms used for physical cryptanalysis of secure circuits.First, practical fault injections have been performed on a hardware AES implementation using non-invasive attacks : static and dynamic variations of the power supply voltage, frequency, temperature and electromagnetic environement. Then a comparison of these obtained faults led us to conclude that these different injection means share a common injection mecanism : timing constraints violations. An on-chip voltmeter has been designed and implemented to observe internal disturbences due to voltage glitchs. These observations led to a better understanding of the fault injection mecanism and to a better temporal accuracy. Then, a contermeasure has been designed and its effectiveness against electromagnetic attacks has been studied. Because of the electromagnetic pulses local effects, the aera effectively protected by the countermeasure is limited. The implementation of several countermeasures has been considered in order to extend the protected aera. Finally, a new attack path using the countermeasure detection threshold variations has been proposed and experimentaly validated. This attack exploit the electrical coupling between the AES and the coutnermeasure. Because of this coupling the countermeasure sensitivity variations are related to data handled by the AES

This work brings questions related to glitch music, genre linked with the aesthetic of failure that arose in the 1990's. It is divided in two parts. In the first part, the research starts with definitions about glitch and glitch music, trying to outline a general context that the genre has developed. We also bring conceptual questions about "failure" trying to point out the use of error as an aesthetic in music. In the second part, we show three perspectives of different approaches of glitch in three different composers: Yasunao Tone, Oval and Alva Noto. Lastly, this work intends to open new discussions concerning what glitch music genre is, and what it includes.

Full textThis bachelor thesis is intended to highlight the role that glitch can have in creation. I pose the question of what happens when we introduce a deliberate disruption in a creative act? How do we treat what we perceive as flaws and mistakes, and what can happen when we explore what has once been rejected as broken and obsolete? These questions have arisen partly from the curiosity about the unknown and a constant search for new forms of expression, but also from criticism. The technological development my generation is experiencing is moving us forward at an ever increasing pace, and it leaves me inquisitive about how we relate to the value of media artifacts when consumerism is becoming more and more prevalent. By studying glitches and their resulting art forms, second-hand and its culture, as well as media archeology, I have formed a foundation on which to base my work. With a critical approach, I have used non-conventional methods and programs to edit and manipulate media, and reflected upon the results supported by both research and discussion with other people. I have explored digital glitches in media that I've worked with during my three years of study, but also traversed physical circuit boards and investigated what happens when a break is introduced in their expected flow. The result is a new approach to outdated technology, a new angle from which to view creativity and creation, and—hopefully—a shift in respect for our continued technological development.

Full textThis thesis focuses on different aspects of ”Low Energy Design”. First, reversible logic, as it is the first attempt for low energy computing, is briefly dis- cussed. Then, we focus on dynamic energy saving in the combinational part of CMOS circuits. We propose a new method to reduce glitches based on dual threshold voltage technique. Simulation results report more than 16% average glitch reduction. We also show that combining dual-threshold to gate-sizingtechnique is very interesting for glitch filtering as it brings up to 27 % energy savings. In the third part of this dissertation, we have been interested in sub-threshold operation where the minimum energy can be achieved using a reduced supply voltage. Sub-threshold operation has been an efficient solution for energy-constrained applications with low speed requirements. However, it is very sensitive to process variability which can impact the robustness and effective performance of the circuit. We propose a model valid in sub and near threshold regions in order to correctly estimate the circuit performance in a variability aware analysis. We provide an analytical solution for the optimum supply voltage that minimizes the total energy per operation while considering variability effects. Spice simulations matches the analytical result to within 6%

Abstract: This research aims to verify the possibility and aesthetic potential through the use of digital error and not designed uses of technical devices and software in Glitch Art. For being an almost unheard subject, it was important to explain the meaning of tilt, bug, failure, fault, error and mistake terms in relation to the technical and artistic field of Glitch Art, its practice and our experience as well the definition of glitch term and its use as designation of this recent artistic genre. We proceed to the investigation of its fundamental basis, classifications, visual characteristics, artistic procedures, relationship with the past of art, its more expressive visual artists and its application beyond the digital art. Therefore, this research grounds on mainly thoughts of Moradi, Manon, Temkin, and Menkman in exclusive aspects of Glitch Art. Finally, with theoretical and practical way has resulted in the creation of my own work Decode, where was connected and experienced the theories and procedures discussed herein

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) present as common manifestation the limitation in the activities of daily living (ADL). In order to assess this limitation the Glittre ADL-test (TGlittre) was developed considering a standardized set of ADL-like activities which is known to be difficult for these patients. However, it is unknown what factors influence TGlittre performance and no reference equation for the test has been developed yet. Thus, the aim of this study was to establish a reference equation for TGlittre based on antropometric and demographic variables of apparently healthy subjects and to verify its reliability in a COPD patient sample. A hundred and fifty-six (80 males) adults, aged 40-80 years old, performed two TGlittre and had their weight, height and body mass index (BMI) measured. For the analysis it was considered the TGlittre shortest spent time. Data were described in mean±SD. For the normality analysis it was used the Shapiro-Wilk test. Correlation coefficients of Pearson or Spearman were used to verify the correlation between time in TGlittre (dependent variable) and age, sex, height, weight and BMI (independent variables). The stepwise multiple linear regression was used to derive the reference equation. For the analysis a p <0.05 value was considered, except in the case of multiple linear regression model that considered a p <0.10 value. The mean time to perform the TGlittre shortest spent time was 2.90 ± 0.45 (range 1.92 4.97 min). Age (r = 0.54, p<0.001), height (r = -0.29, p<0.001) and BMI (r = 0.15, p<0.06) showed significant correlation with TGlittre. Neither correlation was found with weight (r = -0.6, p=0.451) nor gender (r = -0.1, p=0.133). In the stepwise multiple linear regression analysis age and BMI were selected as predictors of TGlittre, explaning 35% (p<0.015) of the total variance. The derived reference equation was: TGlittrepred = 1.006 + (0.024 x age) + (0.019 x BMI). A reference equation for TGlittre was determined based on age and BMI as independent variables and can be useful for predicting the performance of adult patients and healthy subjects in TGlittre. Moreover the predicted values showed to be reliable when applied in COPD patients

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by systemic manifestations that result in significant limitation of functional capacity and hence the individual's ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). Objective: to investigate the physiological response induced by the Glittre-ADL test (TGlittre) and to compare with the physiological response induced by the six-minute walk (6MWT) in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Methods: 15 patients with COPD aged 66 ± 8 years and with forced expiratory volume in one second of 40.0 ± 18.3% predicted were evaluated. Patients underwent spirometry before and after bronchodilator, anthropometric and body composition, London Chest Activity of Daily Living scale (LCADL) and Medical Research Council (MRC). On two different days, separated by one week, two exercise protocols were performed in random order: 6MWT and TGlittre. Patients had also their physical activity in daily life (AFVD) monitored on two consecutive days. The Shapiro-Wilk test of normality was used to assess data distribution. To compare the physiological response between 6MWT and TGlittre was used the paired t test or Wilcoxon. The coefficient of Pearson or Spearman was used to verify the association between variables. The level of significance was 5%. Results: The time spent in TGlittre correlated with the distance walked on 6MWT (r= -0.82, p <0.01). Patients spent 52.9 ± 13.9% of the monitored time in sitting position, 19.6 ± 5.7% standing, 14.6 ± 12.4% lying and 12.9 ± 4.7% of the time walking The time in sitting position was correlated with both the performance in TGlittre and in 6MWT (r= 0.56 and r = -0.60, respectively, p <0.05). There were no differences between the physiological parameters measured at baseline of TGlittre and 6MWT (p>0.05). Patients achieved a VO2 of 1258.2 ± 317.8 and 1176.5 ± 364.8 ml/min at the end of TGlittre and 6MWT, respectively (p> 0.05). The VO2 showed a plateau from the third lap in TGlittre and from the third minute in 6MWT. The VO2 measured at the end of TGlittre correlated with the VO2 measured at the end of 6MWT (r= 0.85, p <0.01). All physiological variables measured at the end of TGlittre were similar and correlated with those measured at the end of 6MWT. Conclusions: TGlittre is able to induce a metabolic, respiratory and cardiovascular response similar to those induced by TC6min.

Full textThe globalization of integrated circuits fabrication involves several questions about the integrity of the fabricated circuits. Malicious modifications called Hardware Trojans (HT) can be introduced during the circuit production process. Due to the complexity of an integrated circuit, it is really difficult to find this kind of alterations. This work focuses on a non-destructive method of HT detection. We use the paths delays of the studied design as a channel to detect HT. A model to describe paths delays is defined. It takes into account two important parameters which are the experimental conditions and the process variations.Faults attacks by clock glitches based on timing constraints violations have been performed to measure data paths delays. Reliable circuits are used for reference. After validating the relevance of this channel to get information on the internal behavior of the targeted design, experimental detections of HT inserted on two different abstraction levels (RTL and after place and route) were achieved. Process variations are taken into consideration in the studies to detect if the tested circuits are infected

The Glittre AVD test (TGlittre) is a specific test to evaluate functional limitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, but it is not known whether it can be used to assess the capacity and performance of post-stroke patients. Objectives: To analyze the validation of TGlittre construct for hemiparetic patients due to stroke. METHODS: construct validity was analyzed using classical psychometry that established the use of well defined statistical methods, 30 hemiparetic adults after stroke and 20 healthy adults, matched in gender and age, according to eligibility criteria. The results were correlated to the 6-min walk test (TC6), time up and go (TUG) and functional independence measure scale (MIF) to analyze construct validity. The tests were randomized, performed on two consecutive days by the same evaluator. Data were submitted to the Shapiro Wilk normality test. The time of execution of the test between the groups was compared by the Mann-Whitney test. RESULTS: There was a strong and significant correlation between the AVD-Glittre versus the 6MT (r = -0.91, p <0.001), TUG (r = 0.82, p <0.001) 0.47, p <0.008). Conclusions: The AVD-Glittre was valid for evaluation of functional capacity and performance of hemiparetic patients after stroke. The Glittre AVD test is reliable when correlated with other tests already validated under different health conditions.

Heart failure (HF) is a cardiovascular syndrome with enormous impact on public health, leading to reduced functional capacity in terms of both physical limitations to activities of daily living as well as the implementation of physical exercises. Considered of great importance, functional capacity can be assessed by a variety of instruments such as questionnaires and field tests, and cardiopulmonary exercise test considered the gold standard. The Glittre ADL-Test is a submaximal functional test that seeks to represent the daily activities, since it involves a set of common tasks in everyday life. This paper is structured in the form of two original articles. The first article was to evaluate and establish a diagnostic value for the Glittre ADL-Test in adults with heart failure when compared to the gold standard was carried out accuracy analysis of the Glittre ADLTest performance time compared to the data peak VO2 CPX by using the cutoff point for the peak VO2 of 16 ml/kg/min from the Weber classification. The best cutoff point was of 258 second, with a sensitivity of 88.89% (95% CI 65.29 to 98.62) and a specificity of 70% (95% CI 45.72 to 88.11) with an area under the curve of 0.80 (95% CI 0.66 to 0.94 and p 0.001). The prevalence found in the study to low functional capacity (peak VO2 <16 ml / kg / min) was 47.3%, and for TTotal greater than 258 seconds found PPV of 72.73% (95% CI, 49, 78 to 89.2) and VPN 87.50% (95% CI, 61.65 to 98.4). The positive LR to the cutoff point of 258 seconds, it was 2.96 (95% CI 1.49 to 5.90) and the negative LR was 0.16 (95% CI 0.04 to 0.60) resulting in a positive post-test of 73% and negative 12%. The second study aimed to investigate whether the time required to perform the Glittre ADL-Test varies according to Weber's rating for the peak VO2, and its correlation with respiratory muscle strength, pulmonary function and diaphragmatic mobility. The mean duration of the Glittre ADL-Test was 286.5 seconds there was a significant difference between the classes (254.1 seconds) and C (324 seconds) Weber (p <0.05). The Glittre ADL-Test showed significant correlations with MIP (r=-0.445 - p <0.01), with the MEP (r = -0.531 - p <0.01) and diaphragmatic mobility (r=-0.361 - p <0.05). Twenty-eight patients underwent a second test, the reproducibility of analysis, the ICC found was 0.76 (95% CI 0.17 to 0.91) and p <0.01. Conclusion: The sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV, showed that the Glittre ADLTest is accurate in assessing the functional capacity of patients with HF. It is useful and can be used in clinical practice, he was also able to reflect the functional performance of these individuals and correlated with respiratory muscle strength and diaphragmatic mobility.

Full textThis study deals with the development of necessary competencies and strategies to develop critical apprehension of contemporary audiovisual productions in school contexts. Data released by IBOPE and TIC KIDS ONLINE surveys confirm that children and adolescents between the ages of 9 and 17 spend a lot of time watching TV and/or surfing the net through different devices, watching videos, programs, movies or online series. Considering and contemplating school context, part of the audiovisual productions which population consumes, can be explored through pedagogically elaborated activities, and may contribute to visual and audiovisual concepts of this public. In this perspective, reading and interpreting these productions, which have expanded throughout the years, seem to be contemporary challenges of visual arts teaching. Not only involving art productions, but any visual and audiovisual production. Thus, the research question that guides this study aims to perceive and analyze how visual arts teachers can provide their students the development of competencies that enable them to apprehend contemporary visual and audiovisual productions in a critical way To this end, the objectives sought to foster reflection on the competencies and strategies development for audiovisual products understanding; to problematize visual and audiovisual apprehension in the teaching of arts through the theoretical and methodological approach discursive semiotics of A. J. Greimas, enlarged by the sociossemiotics studies of E. Landowski. Also, to analyze the sense effects arising from the interrelationship between a cultural production, the episode The Sign, from the animation The Amazing World of Gumball, and a contemporary artistic production, the video installation of Cinema Lascado, by Giselle Beiguelman and to understand the interaction regimes involved. We observe that, in the context of the accident regime, the oscillations between apprehension and suspension in sense effects production are related to the concepts of fractures and the loopholes developed by Greimas. Finally, it is understood that being able to commute between different regimes contributes to make sense apprehension more sophisticated.

Full textWith this bachelor thesis I aim to bring to light the role of the computer in digital creative work. This is accomplished by treating the code that make up digital objects as a form of matter, and with Karen Barad’s agential realism and other research into digital materiality as a point of reference this matter is invited to the creative process as an actor. I’ve been striving for a glimpse of how digital matter comes to life when it’s allowed an active part in the creative process, to see how it expresses itself. By engaging with the digital matter through diffraction and remix as methods I’ve been given an insight into the core of it, and through the process I’ve been working alongside digital matter in intra action. Ultimately I can see how digital matter won’t appear alone, I myself and the computer are both entangled together with the digital matter as a result of the intra actions we’ve been engaging in. My intervention in digital matter becomes visible as glitches, traces of decay that give the digital matter, which can be so fleeting, more concrete and material characteristics. The unintelligible complexity of digital matter also comes to light when it’s allowed influence, as it appears visually. With this knowledge I’ve gained the awareness that digital matter does not have an absolute appearance, and this thesis can be seen as an investigation into how digital matter can appear.
