AbstractA new Swiss glacier inventory is to be compiled from satellite data for the year 2000. The study presented here describes two major tasks: an accuracy assessment of different methods for glacier classification with Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) data and a digital elevation model (DEM); the geographical information system (GIS)-based methods for automatic extraction of individual glaciers from classified satellite data and the computation of three-dimensional glacier parameters (such as minimum, maximum and median elevation or slope and orientation) by fusion with a DEM. First results obtained by these methods are presented in Part II of this paper (Kääb and others, 2002). Thresholding of a ratio image from TM4 and TM5 reveals the best-suited glacier map. The computation of glacier parameters in a GIS environment is efficient and suitable for worldwide application. The methods developed contribute to the U. S. Geological Survey-led Global Land Ice Measurements from Space (GLIMS) project which is currently compiling a global inventory of land ice masses within the framework of global glacier monitoring (Haeberli and others, 2000).

Abstract:
This study demonstrated that a simple mechanical model of global tongue movement in parallel sagittal planes could be used to quantify tongue motion during speech. The goal was to represent simply the differences in 2D tongue surface shapes and positions during speech movements and in subphonemic speech events such as coarticulation and left-to-right asymmetries. The study used tagged Magnetic Resonance Images to capture motion of the tongue during speech. Measurements were made in three sagittal planes (left, midline, right) during movement from consonants (/k/, /s/) to vowels (/i/, /a/, /u/). MR image-sequences were collected during the C-to-V movement. The image-sequence had seven time-phases (frames), each 56 ms in duration. A global model was used to represent the surface motion. The motions were decomposed into translation, rotation, homogeneous stretch, and in-plane shear. The largest C-to-V shape deformation was from /k/ to/a/. It was composed primarily of vertical compression, horizontal expansion, and downward translation. Coarticulatory effects included a trade-off in which tongue shape accommodation was used to reduce the distance traveled between the C and V. Left-to-right motion asymmetries may have increased rate of motion by reducing the amount of mass to be moved.

Abstract:
Background:Distinguishing primary NPSLE (neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus) from secondary causes remains challenging (1). Attribution models were developed in order to aim clinicians in correct classification of NPSLE cases (2).Objectives:To investigate the prevalence of primary NPSLE manifestations assigned with Italian model of attribution (2).Methods:We retrospectively assessed clinical details of 164 patients with SLE classified with 2012 SLICC (Systemic Lupus International Collaborating Clinics) classification criteria, 21 were excluded due to incomplete information. Data was gathered with a questionnaire comprising demographics, medical history, laboratory results (concentrations of antibodies against double stranded DNA – anti-dsDNA, complement components C3 and C4), disease activity measured with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Disease Activity Index 2000 (SLEDAI-2K) and Physician Global Assessment (PGA) and damage determined with SLICC/ACR (American College of Rheumatology) Damage Index (SDI). Neuropsychiatric manifestations were categorized in accordance with 1999 ACR glossary and attribution of manifestations was performed with the use of Italian model with the score ≥7 out of 10 points enabling assignment to primary NPSLE group (2). Statistical analysis was conducted with Statistica v.13.3 using Mann-Whitney U, chi-square and Fisher exact test.Results:We encountered 155 NP manifestations in our cohort and 52 (34%) were attributed to SLE. Characteristics of the study groups are presented in Table 1. Exact manifestations and their attribution rates are presented on Graph 1. Abstract Abstract 2986 Poster Board II-962 Introduction: The protein C pathway is believed to be a crucial regulator of coagulation. Similar to the adult population, it is of utmost importance in pediatric patients to maintain the balance between pro- and anticoagulatory signals (Petaja and Manco-Johnson 2003). Cancer patients have been shown to have cancer and cancer-therapy associated pathologies of the protein C pathway. (Nijziel, van Oerle et al. 2003; Woodley-Cook, Shin et al. 2006). A test evaluating the response of the protein C pathway after activation of endogenous protein C has been shown to be a sensitive tool to screen for protein C deficiency and APC resistance whereas protein S deficiency is detected less reliably (Toulon, Halbmeyer et al. 2000). This is in line with findings suggesting that any pathology of this assay is related to an increased risk of VTE, independent of the pathology related to the abnormality of the test result (Toulon, Perez et al. 2007). Similarly, patients with idiopathic pregnancy loss were found to have a pathological response independent of the pathology related (Sarig, Lanir et al. 2002). Methods: We therefore evaluated the influence of different variables on the results of the global protein C assay (Pro C Global on a BCS analyzer, Siemens, Marburg, Germany) in 431 children enrolled into the Thrombotect study. The Thrombotect study is a prospective, randomized trial evaluating unfractionated heparin vs low molecular weight heparin vs antithrombin replacement for prevention of thromboembolism in children undergoing asparaginase containing chemotherapy for acute lymphoblasic leukaemia within the BFM protocol. A multivariate linear regression analysis on results obtained before treatment was performed (MedCalc 10.0.1). Results: To date (as of 8/09), 720 children have been randomized in the Thrombotect trial. At the time, we had complete data for laboratory evaluation available for 431 children on day 0 of the treatment protocol. Free protein S, IgG antibodies against cardiolipin or phosphatidlyserine, dRVVT, fibrinogen, the presence of F II G20210A, homocystein concentration, Lp(a) concentration and PAI-1 activity had no predictive value towards the protein C pathway assay result in this multivariate analysis. In contrast, the protein C pathway activity was expectedly shown to be dependent on the presence of the F V Leiden mutation (p<0.0001), protein C activity (p<0.0001) and F VIIIc (p=0.0001). Unexpectedly, the protein C pathway activity was also dependent on antithrombin activity (p=0.0166), F XIIc (p=0.0137) and IgM (but not IgG) antibodies against cardiolipin (p=0.0304) and phosphatidylserine (p=0.0006) in this multivariate analysis. Importantly, the association between protein C pathway activity and the “unexpected” predictors were independent of whether or not the results were in the reference range or not (median [95% CI] antithrombin activity 0.95 [0.93-0.97], median F XIIc 0.94 [0.90-0.98], median ACL IgM 2 [2-3] U/ml, median APS IgM 2 [2-3] U/ml). Conclusions: The protein C pathway is believed to be a crucial regulatory element of haemostasis. Our results from a large cohort (n = 431) of children with ALL and thus at risk for thromboembolism indicate that the protein C pathway is -expectedly (such as F V Leiden mutation, protein C activity, F VIIIc) and unexpectedly (such as antithrombin activity and the concentration of antiphospholipid IgM antibodies) - interdependent with many other variables of the coagulation system. These data provide evidence that the protein C pathway ex vivo in children with ALL is targeted by various elements of other haemostasis pathways in a significant manner in multivariate analysis. This study sought to characterize the relationship among voluntary rate modification, vocal tract acoustic output, and perceptual impressions of speech for individuals with idiopathic Parkinson disease (PD). Healthy control speakers were studied for comparison purposes. Four research questions were addressed: (1) How is rate modification evidenced in acoustic measures of segmental and global timing? (2) What is the impact of rate modification on measures of acoustic working space for select vowels and consonants? (3) What is the impact of rate modification on perceptual impressions of severity? (4) Are rate-induced changes in measures of acoustic working space related to perceptual impressions of severity? Speakers read the Farm Passage at habitual, slow, and fast rates. The vowels /i/, /æ/, /u/, and /a/ and the fricatives /s/ and /∫/ were of interest. Acoustic measures included articulatory rate, segment durations, vowel formant frequencies, and first moment coefficients. Measures of acoustic working space for vowels and fricatives also were derived. The results indicated that temporal acoustic measures changed in the expected direction across rate conditions, with a tendency toward slightly faster rates for the PD group. In addition, the relative rate change for the Fast and Slow conditions compared to the Habitual condition was similar across groups. Rate did not strongly affect measures of acoustic working space for the PD group as a whole, but there was a tendency for slower rates to be associated with larger measures of acoustic working space. Finally, there was not a strong relationship between perceived severity and measures of acoustic working space across the rate continuum for either group. Rather, the relationship between perceived severity and measures of acoustic working space was such that the PD group exhibited smaller measures of acoustic working space and more severe perceptual estimates than the control speakers, irrespective of rate condition.

Abstract:
The achievement of family well - being is an aspiration of all families including families of migrant workers, to achieve the well - being of one of the ways that the families of migrant workers with the departure of the wife work as domestic servants in various countries. The purpose of this study was to analyze social capital, economic coping, sress symptom’s husband and family subjektive well - being of women migrant workers. This research use cross sectional studies. The location was chosen purposively in Tanggeung Village, Pagermaneuh Village, Margaluyu Village, Karangtengah Village, Tanggeung District and Pasirdalam Village Kadupandak District, Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia. Seventy five families were selected purposively among the families of women migrant workers. The finding indicates that social capital is in the moderate category, the coping economy is in the moderate category, the sress symptom’s husband is in the low category and the family well-being is in the low category. Finding in this study family subjective well-being is influenced by income per capita, sress symptom’s husband and economic coping.

 Abstrak
 Kesejahteraan keluarga merupakan sesuatu yang ingin dicapai seluruh keluarga, termasuk keluarga Tenaga Kerja Wanita (TKW), untuk mencapai kesejahteraan tersebut salah satu cara yang dilakukan oleh keluarga TKW adalah mengirim istri sebagai pembantu rumah tangga di berbagai negara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis modal sosial, coping ekonomi, gejala stres suami, dan kesejahteraan subjektif keluarga TKW. Penelitian ini menggunakan cross sectional studies. Lokasi dipilih dengan metode purposive di Provinsi Jawa Barat, Kabupaten Cianjur, Kecamatan Tanggeung, Desa Pagermaneuh, Desa Marguluyu, Desa Karangtengah, Desa Tanggeung, Kecamatan Kadupandak, Desa Pasirdalam. Jumlah sampel sebanyak 75 keluarga TKW dengan metode purposive sampling. Penelitian ini menemukan modal sosial berada pada kategori sedang, coping ekonomi berada pada kategori sedang, gelaja stres suami berada pada kategori rendah, dan kesejahteraan subjektif berada pada kategori rendah. Penelitian ini juga menemukan kesejahteraan keluarga berpengaruh terhadap pendapatan perkapita, gelaja stres suami, dan coping ekonomi.

Here $f$ is taken to be either $\exp(-s^4)$ or $H(1-s)$ with $H$ the Heaviside function, which are both decreasing. It is found that there exists a critical value $\lambda^*=2$, so that for $\lambda>\lambda^{*}$ there is no stationary solution and $u$ ‘blows up’ (in some sense). The case for global risk diversification has been built on correlations between the U.S. and international stock markets. Now that we witness how tightly the world stock markets are correlated, especially after the global financial crisis of 2008-2009, does it still make sense to diversify globally? Can the investments in global equity portfolios be protected in todays volatile markets? These questions have preoccupied a growing number of portfolio managers in recent years, as well as many of us who invest in stock markets. Since gold/silver and bonds tend to move inversely with the stock markets, a hedging strategy of combining them with stock portfolios should protect the equity investments during global market downturns. The study explores the risk-return profiles of various global portfolios and provides insights about the extent to which the U.S. investors need to allocate their investments in Asia/Pacific, European stock markets, and across other investment vehicles, such as gold/silver and bonds. The findings from this research have practical implications for both investors and portfolio managers interested in going global.

Background:Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, inflammatory, and autoimmune disease that damages vital organs such as the heart. Patients with SLE have a higher risk of developing a cardiovascular (CV) disease than the general population (1).Objectives:The aim of this study was to compare the echocardiographic findings in patients with SLE and controls.Methods:This was a cross-sectional, observational, and comparative study. A total of 38 patients with SLE according to the 2019 EULAR/ACR classification criteria, ≥18 years old and 38 matched controls by age (±5 years) and gender, were recruited for this study. Exclusion criteria were a poor echocardiographic window, patients with a previous CV event, such as myocardial infarction, cerebrovascular event or peripheral arterial disease, and pregnant women. A transthoracic echocardiogram, including speckle tracking technique, was performed, by two certified echocardiographers, in all study subjects. Distribution was evaluated with Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Comparisons were done with χ2 and Fisher´s Exact test for qualitative variables, and Student’s t test and Mann-Whitney´s U test for quantitative variables. A p-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.Results:When comparing demographic characteristics there were no significant differences in age, gender, and comorbidities between SLE patients and controls. In the echocardiographic findings a significant difference was found in the left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), lower in SLE patients compared to controls (57.02% vs 61.89%, p=0.001), in the global longitudinal strain (GLS), reduced in SLE patients (-19.55% vs -22.00%, p=0.001), in the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE), lower in SLE patients (22.00mm vs 24.00mm, p=0.011), in the left atrial volume index, higher in SLE patients (28.44ml/m2 vs 22.29ml/m2, p=0.014) and in the presence of mitral regurgitation, more prevalent in SLE patients (31.6% vs 10.5%, p=0.024) (Table 1).Conclusion:Patients with SLE have a worse left ventricular function, evaluated by LVEF and GLS, a worse right ventricular systolic function, evaluated by TAPSE, an increased left atrial volume index and a higher prevalence of mitral regurgitation, which are associated with a higher risk of CV death. The article summarizes the effects of an eight week short term study abroad program four weeks in the U nited S tates and four weeks in Germany on students’ global competence. Students’ global competence was measured with the Global Competence Aptitude Assessment (GCAA) before and after the eight week summer program. Data was collected from three summer programs and a total of 42 students participa ted in the study. The results indicate that students made statistically significant improvements in several dimensions of global competence but also statistically declined in one area. Suggestions for possible curricular and programmatic changes were made that may be put into place to provide more opportunities for the development of global competence in future iterations of this summer study abroad program.

We analytically study the critical phase of a mixed system of the U(2) gauge fields and global symmetry on the boundary using gauge/gravity. A variational minimization problem has been formulated. The numerical results pertinently show that there exists a minimum chemical potential in which both scalar (s-wave) and vector (p-wave) condensates exist in a mixture, as well as in the distinct s- and p-phases. This result is obtained by breaking the symmetry into U(1) symmetry and rotational symmetry. While the analytical solutions of condensates and charge densities are achieved in both cases: the balanced and unbalanced holographic superconductors. This is the first analytical study of the coexistence of two modes of the superconductivity with different order parameters. The realistic model consists of two different phases of the superfluidity in helium.

SUMMARY: The basic objective of this research is to explore the contribution of motorway network development in minimizing accident costs. Results of the study are based on Croatian experience. The likelihood of a statistically negative correlation between the total motorway length and traffic accident costs will be investigated through observation of variations in the total length of motorways and the number and type of accidents that occurred. The results are based on statistical methods of regression and correlation analysis. The analysis spans the period between 2000 and 2013. The conducted regression analysis has confirmed that one newly constructed kilometre of motorways results in a decrease of social accident costs by 761,488 €. The gathered data suggest that the expected effects of further construction of Croatian motorway network on traffic safety are lessening, so in order to increase traffic safety further measures to improve traffic culture of all traffic participants should be implemented with more vigour.

Based on the 2000-2018 data of China’s direct investment in U.S. tourism industry, this paper used the random effect models to quantitatively measure the driving mechanism of Chinese direct investment in U.S. tourism industry. The results showed that: China’s direct investment in U.S. tourism is mainly influenced by the four driving forces of economic development, tourism development, cultural affinity, investment environment and system. “Cultural affinity” is the characteristic of the U. S. which is different from the FDI of Chinese tourism in the global perspective.

Data analysis is done by reducing data, presenting data, and drawing conclusions. The research findings showed that students were very enthusiastic about following the activities of the teacher with pleasure, happiness and did not feel burdened from the initial activities to the final activities of the students who followed them well. The efforts made by TK Theodosius educators are good, so that it can be said that the teacher's efforts to train children's independence are maximized. The students have begun to instill Pancasila values in their daily lives, namely Godhead, Humanity, the Value of Unity, People's Value, and Social Justice.

We study the existence of periodic solutions u(·) for a class of nonlinear ordinary differential equations depending on a real parameter s and obtain the existence of closed connected branches of solution pairs (u, s) to various classes of problems, including some cases, like the superlinear one, where there is a lack of a priori bounds. The results are obtained as a consequence of a new continuation theorem for the coincidence equation Lu=N(u, s) in normed spaces. Among the applications, we discuss also an example of existence of global branches of periodic solutions for the Ambrosetti–Prodi type problem u″+g(u)=s+ p(t), with g satisfying some asymmetric conditions.

The issues of global warming and occurrence of the greenhouse effect are widely discussed on a global scale. Various methods of reducing greenhouse gas emissions are actively being investigated and tested, including technologies for sequestration of carbon dioxide, the implementation of which is carried out in the form of CC(U)S (carbon capture, utilization and storage) projects related to capture, disposal and, in some cases, use of CO2. In Russia, CC(U)S technologies are not yet used, but there is a significant potential for their development and distribution. CC(U)S technologies acquire a special role in the context of the development of the energy and industrial sectors of Russia, which are key sources of emissions, and the geological objects belonging to them are potential carbon storages. The purpose of this study is to conceptually analyze the CC(U)S technological cycle and typify such projects, assess the prospects for their implementation in Russia, and identify social effects from the implementation of CC(U)S projects. The main results of the study are presented in the form of a typology of CC(U)S projects, a strategic analysis of the prospects for introduction of such technologies in Russia, as well as development of approaches to assessing social effects with systematization and highlighting a set of indicators for their assessment, which can serve as a basis for re-estimation of the values of CC(U)S projects. The main research methods used were methods of decomposition, systematization and typology, as well as strategic analysis with a focus on relevant practical materials on the topic of the work. Directions for further research are related to the substantiation of the methodology for assessing social effects of CC(U)S projects, including for the conditions of Russia, based on the principles of balancing the interests of key participants.

At present, one of the major global environmental problems is the greenhouse effect, which is caused by carbon dioxide emissions. One of the most innovative methods to combat the greenhouse effect is the introduction of CC(U)S projects, involving the implementation of CC(U)S technologies, aimed to carbon capture (CC), storage in underground facilities (S), and sometimes utilization (U). This paperexamines foreign experience of applying CC(U)Stechnologies, which have shownthat some projects have been canceled due to negative public reaction because of low awareness. To understand the prospects for the implementation of CC(U)S projects in Russia, student surveys were conducted among St. Petersburg universities in order to determine the level of awareness of Russian society about this issue. As a result, recommendations were developed to increase awareness level of society of CC(U)S technologies The study is based on publications of Russian and international experts in different scientificjournals. The research methodology includes desk studies, methods of comparative analysis and systematization, a sociological study, a method of generalization, and grouping.

Abstract In this paper, we study the fractional p-Laplacian evolution equation with arbitrary initial energy, $$\begin{array}{} \displaystyle u_t(x,t) + (-{\it\Delta})_p^s u(x,t) = f(u(x,t)), \quad x\in {\it\Omega}, \,t \gt 0, \end{array} $$ where $\begin{array}{} (-{\it\Delta})_p^s \end{array} $ is the fractional p-Laplacian with $\begin{array}{} p \gt \max\{\frac{2N}{N+2s},1\} \end{array} $ and s ∈ (0, 1). Specifically, by the modified potential well method, we obtain the global existence, uniqueness, and blow-up in finite time of the weak solution for the low, critical and high initial energy cases respectively.

Beginning in the early 70s, ACME, a highly innovative and successful U.S. chemical firm, began commercializing an important and versatile polymer invention. This case study chronicles the many travails faced by ACME in obtaining patent protection for its innovations in major developed economies. ACME's experiences suggest that international differences in patent regimes that stem from ideological, historical, and institutional differences are pervasive, and need to be accounted for in a company's patenting approach. International strategy in the patent area is thus inherently multi-domestic. Further, we also observe that in global industries, obtaining a modicum of exclusivity through strong patent protection in certain key markets may be adequate to preserve a firm's competitive advantage versus multinational rivals. Moreover, a firm's patent strategy seems intrinsically integrated with its continuing innovative and commercial performance.

ABSTRACT In June of 2000, U. S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office (MSO) San Juan conducted the Annual Abandoned Vessel Inventory and noticed an abandoned vessel grounded on a beach in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Personal investigation revealed that the vessel held approximately 5,000 gallons of waste oil in the engine room, posing a pollution threat to the local public. In a thorough attempt to identify the owner, the MSO used the knowledge of local fishermen, the marine police and Department of Natural Resource. When the owner could not be identified, the Captain of the Port decided to use the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund to remove the threat of an oil discharge. Upon discovering that five marine batteries and filters had been hidden on board the vessel, it was determined that it was likely being used as a waste dumpsite. If it was indeed a dumpsite, the Coast Guard would then take control of the vessel, initiate salvage operations, and remove it from its location. Local contractors were hired in the first successful oil removal attempt, lasting two days. In April of 2001, the re-assessment was conducted and an additional 5,000 gallons of waste oil was again discovered on the vessel, confirming the belief that it was a dumpsite. A more in depth assessment was conducted, and another 10,000 gallons of fuel oil was discovered in the wing tanks. The second project commenced with a local environmental contractor hired to remove the 15,000 gallons of oil. Then a salvage contractor was hired to mechanically cut the vessel into scrap for disposal. During this time over 300 lbs. of commercial grade C-4 explosives and detonation cord were discovered in a hidden compartment in the aft end of the vessel. The total cost to the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund was approximately $700,000.00 and over 2,000 man-hours were spent to complete the project. This three month long abandoned vessel removal is considered an important success for several reasons. Not only did the Coast Guard remove a major pollution threat from the environment, but the municipality has also renovated the beachfront area and installed a boardwalk for public access.

Objective: To evaluate whether Pakistanis have increased bone turnover compared with ethnic Norwegians due to their high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and secondary hyperparathyroidism, and whether the relation between bone turnover and bone mineral density (BMD) differs between Pakistanis and ethnic Norwegians. Design: A cross-sectional, population-based study conducted in the city of Oslo in 2000–2001. Random samples of 132 community-dwelling Pakistani men and women of ages 40, 45, and 59–60 years, and 580 community-dwelling Norwegian men and women of ages 45 and 59–60 years are included in this substudy. Methods: Venous serum samples were drawn for measurements of markers of the vitamin D endocrine system and the bone turnover markers osteocalcin (s-OC), bone alkaline phosphatase (s-bone ALP), and tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (s-TRACP). BMD was measured at the forearm by single-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Results: Pakistanis had higher s-bone ALP compared with Norwegians. Mean (95% CI) age-adjusted levels were 22.5 (21.0, 24.1) U/l in Pakistani men versus 19.3 (18.6, 20.1) U/l in Norwegian men, P < 0.0005, and 20.3 (18.4, 22.1) U/l in Pakistani women versus 16.7 (16.0, 17.4) U/l in Norwegian women, P = 0.001. There tended to be an inverse association between bone turnover and BMD in men and women of both ethnic groups, and it was strongest for s-bone ALP. Overall mean (95% CI) distal BMD decrease was −16 (−20, −11) mg/cm2 per 1 s.d. increase in s-bone ALP (P < 0.0005) when adjusting for age, sex, and ethnicity. Conclusions: Except for somewhat higher s-bone ALP levels in Pakistanis, there were only minor ethnic differences in bone turnover, despite a strikingly different prevalence of secondary hyperparathyroidism. Bone turnover was inversely associated with forearm BMD in both ethnic groups.

Carbon dioxide emission on peatland under oil palm plantation were highly varied probably due to many factors involved. The objectives of the research were to evaluate the effect of distance sampling from center of oil palm tree on Carbon dioxide flux, and to study the factors that cause variability of carbon dioxide flux on peatland under oil palm plantation. The study was conducted on peatland at Arang-Arang Village, Kumpek Ulu Sub-District, Muaro Jambi District, Jambi Province, on six year old oil palm plantation. The study was conducted in the form of observational exploratory. Emission measurements performed on 5 selected oil palm trees at points within 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 cm from the center of trunk. Carbon dioxide flux was measured using (IRGA), Li-COR 820. The results showed that there is significant correlation between the distance of sampling from center of oil palm tree and Carbon dioxide flux. The farther distance from the tree, Carbon dioxide flux more decreased. Before applying fertilizer, variability of soil fertility was not significantly correlated with the flux of Carbon dioxide, so the difference of Carbon dioxide flux based on distance sampling can be caused by root distribution factor. Abstract:
Data on the anticoagulant power of Uvaria chamae, a plant used in traditional medicine, remain unknown despite its many therapeutic and biological virtues. The present study aimed to compare the anticoagulant effects of aqueous macerate, ethanolic macerate and aqueous decoction of U. chamae leaves. The anticoagulant activity of macerated and decocted U. chamae was evaluated in vitro against endogenous and exogenous coagulation pathways in a pool of displaced normal plasmas. These two pathways are explored using two global and chronometric tests including Cephalin-Kaolin Time (TCK) and Prothrombin Time (TQ). The results obtained revealed that the incubation time of U. chamae macerates and decoctions with plasma significantly influences their anticoagulant power. This evaluation showed that these macerated and decocted products exerted anticoagulant power at concentrations dependent on these two coagulation pathways. This anticoagulant power at the level of the aqueous decocted was more significant (P ˂ 0.001) on these two coagulation pathways but it was more marked on the endogenous pathway than on the exogenous pathway. This Ivorian plant could thus be considered as a natural source of anticoagulant agents for medicinal purposes.

Climate change induced sea-level rise (SLR) is on its increase globally. Regionally the lowlands of China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and islands of the Malaysian, Indonesian and Philippine archipelagos are among the world’s most threatened regions. Sea-level rise has major impacts on the ecosystems and society. It threatens coastal populations, economic activities, and fragile ecosystems as mangroves, coastal salt-marches and wetlands. This paper provides a summary of the current state of knowledge of sea level-rise and its effects on both human and natural ecosystems. The focus is on coastal urban areas and low lying deltas in South-East Asia and Vietnam, as one of the most threatened areas in the world. About 3 mm per year reflects the growing consensus on the average SLR worldwide. The trend speeds up during recent decades. The figures are subject to local, temporal and methodological variation. In Vietnam the average values of 3.3 mm per year during the 1993-2014 period are above the worldwide average. Although a basic conceptual understanding exists that the increasing global frequency of the strongest tropical cyclones is related with the increasing temperature and SLR, this relationship is insufficiently understood. Moreover the precise, complex environmental, economic, social, and health impacts are currently unclear. SLR, storms and changing precipitation patterns increase flood risks, in particular in urban areas. Part of the current scientific debate is on how urban agglomeration can be made more resilient to flood risks. Where originally mainly technical interventions dominated this discussion, it becomes increasingly clear that proactive special planning, flood defense, flood risk mitigation, flood preparation, and flood recovery are important, but costly instruments. Next to the main focus on SLR and its effects on resilience, the paper reviews main SLR associated impacts: Floods and inundation, salinization, shoreline change, and effects on mangroves and wetlands. The hazards of SLR related floods increase fastest in urban areas. This is related with both the increasing surface major cities are expected to occupy during the decades to come and the increasing coastal population. In particular Asia and its megacities in the southern part of the continent are increasingly at risk. The discussion points to complexity, inter-disciplinarity, and the related uncertainty, as core characteristics. Abstract:
El reconocimiento del Virus del Oeste del Nilo (VON) en el hemisferio occidental en el verano de 1999 marcó la primera introducción en la historia reciente de un flavivirus del Viejo Mundo al Nuevo Mundo. VON, un miembro de la familia Flaviviradae (género Flavivirus), fue aislado inicialmente en el distrito del oeste del Nilo de Uganda. Desde su aislamiento original, han ocurrido brotes en humanos en forma infrecuente, siendo los más notables los de Israel (1951-1954 y 1957) y Sur África (1974). Sin embargo, desde los mediados de los noventa, tres tendencias epidemiológicas para el VON han emergido: 1) incremento en la frecuencia de brotes en humanos y caballos (Rumania 1996; Marruecos 1996; Turquía 1997; Italia 1998; Rusia, Estados Unidos de NA e Israel 1999; Israel, Francia y Estado Unidos de NA 2000; 2) un incremento aparente en la severidad de la enfermedad en humanos (infecciones humanas confirmadas en brotes recientes: Rumania, 393 casos; Rusia, 942; Estados Unidos de NA, 62 casos en 1999 y 21 en 2000; Israel, 2 casos en 1999 y 417 en 2000); y 3) altas tasas de mortandad en aves acompañando a brotes en humanos en Israel y Estados Unidos de NA. Los recientes brotes del VON se han acompañado por una aparente evolución de una variante viral nueva. El VON puede ser dividido genéticamente en dos linajes. Solamente miembros del linaje 1 WN han sido asociados con encefalitis humana. El linaje 1 WN se ha aislado en África, India, Europa, Asia y Norte América. El linaje 2 WN es mantenido en un foco enzootico en África y no se ha asociado con encefalitis humana. La relación genéticamente estrecha entre los VON aislados en Israel y Nueva York sugieren que el virus fue importado a Norte América del Medio Oriente. Los medios de esta introducción (pájaros infectados, mosquitos, humanos u otros huéspedes vertebrados) permanecen aún desconocidos. Un hallazgo importante en la epidemia inicial en humanos, en Nueva York, en 1999, fue el alto número de muertes de aves, en un brote epizoótico acompañante, particularmente cuervo s americanos (Corvus brachehynchos) y otros córvidos. En el año 2000, 14 especies de mosquitos en cinco estados de NA tenían evidencias de infección por el VON (por cultivo o amplificación de ácido nucleico). En el viejo Mundo, los mosquitos del género Culex son los principales vectores. Sin embargo, las especies más importante para la transmisión de humanos y caballos, aún no han sido definidas. Dado nuestro conocimiento incompleto y evolutivo del impacto ecológico y en la salud pública del VON en América, así como la eficacia de las medidas de control, el virus permanecerá como un importante reto de salud pública en la siguiente década.

Abstract:
The notion of gluing of abelian categories was introduced in a paper by Kazhdan and Laumon in 1988 and studied further by Polishchuk. We observe that this notion is a particular case of a general categorical construction.We then apply this general notion to the study of the ring of global differential operators $\mathcal{D}$ on the basic affine space $G/U$ (here $G$ is a semi-simple simply connected algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$ and $U\subset G$ is a maximal unipotent subgroup).We show that the category of $\mathcal{D}$-modules is glued from $|W|$ copies of the category of $D$-modules on $G/U$ where $W$ is the Weyl group, and the Fourier transform is used to define the gluing data. Abstract:
Summary Aim: The TCTUs (global 99mTc-pertechnetate thyroid uptake under suppression) can be used as an estimate of the iodine clearance of non-TSH regulated tissue. High TCTUs levels are characteristic for Graves’ disease (GD). Decreased uptake has been described in autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT). However, systematically investigated data in a larger series of AIT-patients with subclinical or overt hyperthyroidism are not published so far. The purpose of this study is the evaluation of the TCTUs in the differentiation between AIT and GD in patients with hyperthyroidism. Methods: We determined the TCTUs in 59 patients with untreated hyperthyroid GD and in 51 patients with AIT who had subclinical or manifest hyperthyroidism without medication. Patients with GD were characterized by the presence of hyperthyroidism, decreased echogenicity of the thyroid, elevation of TSH-receptor autoantibodies (TRAb). AIT was defined by a decreased echogenicity of the thyroid, absence of elevated TSH-receptor autoantibodies (TRAb), autoantibodies against the thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) and spontaneous remission or development of subclinical hypothyroidism within 3 months. Results: Thyroid volumes of patients with AIT were significantly lower than those of patients with GD (p <0.05). TRAb levels were significantly higher in GD-patients (median: 19.5 U/ml; range: 15.3-35 U/ml) than in AIT-patients (median: 1.3 U/ml; range: 0-4.1 U/ml). 73% (38/59) of patients with GD had elevated anti-TPO levels. In these patients anti-TPO levels (median: 768 U/l; range: 83-6397 U/l) were not significantly different from anti-TPO levels of patients with AIT (median: 834 U/l; range: 107-8675 U/l; p = 0.17). TCTUs values of patients with AIT were significantly lower (p <0.05; median: 0.9%; range: 0.1-3.2%) than those of patients with GD (median: 5.7%; range: 1.9-28.3%). Conclusion: In our patients quantitative thyroid scintigraphy with 99mTcO4 - offered rapid and reliable differentiation between hyperthyroid GD and AIT.

Abstract:
In view of the European Union as one of the main polluters in the word and the fact that GDP per capita in the European Union is equivalent to the 282 percent of the world`s average, it is interesting to study the relationship between transport GHG emissions and the economic activity within the European Union. In the paper, the authors check the environment Kuznets curve hypothesis for members of the EU over the period 2000-2014. The analysis results show that an inverse-U relationship exists between transport GHG emissions and GDP per capita. At the same time, the results indicate that the change of economic structure has influenced the transport GHG emissions in the developed countries, that is, in the countries that record a higher level of GDP per capita.

Introdução: A reabilitação com implantes dentários tornou-se possível de forma imediata a partir do conhecimento e aplicação da osseointegração. Esse procedimento propicia otimização entre o tempo de osseointegração e maturação óssea, além de minimizar a reabsorção alveolar, preservar a arquitetura gengival, e evitar novo procedimento cirúrgico. Objetivo: Evidenciar o sucesso de implante dentário unitário, instalado imediatamente após exodontia e curetagem de lesão periapical extensa, e a instalação da prótese com proservação de 33 meses. Relato do caso: Paciente do sexo feminino, 24 anos de idade, apresentou-se com uma parúlide na gengiva inserida acima do dente 25 e fratura coronal do mesmo. A tomografia computadorizada de feixe cônico (TCFC) revelou uma extensa área hipodensa na região do ápice da raiz do dente 25, medindo 6,7 X 8,2 mm. A referida lesão já havia causado fenestração da parede vestibular, cerca de dois terços no sentido ápice-coroa. Foi instituído como plano de tratamento a instalação de implante dentário imediato com carga imediata. A prótese final foi instalada 13 meses após a instalação do implante. Decorridos 17 meses do procedimento cirúrgico, foi solicitada radiografia periapical de controle, onde foi possível avaliar trabeculado ósseo sadio em torno do implante. Abstract:
Rapid urbanization rates impact significantly on the nature of Land Cover patterns of the environment, which has been evident in the depletion of vegetal reserves and in general modifying the human climatic systems (Henderson, et al., 2017; Kumar, Masago, Mishra, & Fukushi, 2018; Luo and Lau, 2017). This study explores remote sensing classification technique and other auxiliary data to determine LULCC for a period of 50 years (1967-2016). The LULCC types identified were quantitatively evaluated using the change detection approach from results of maximum likelihood classification algorithm in GIS. Accuracy assessment results were evaluated and found to be between 56 to 98 percent of the LULC classification. The change detection analysis revealed change in the LULC types in Minna from 1976 to 2016. Built-up area increases from 74.82ha in 1976 to 116.58ha in 2016. Farmlands increased from 2.23 ha to 46.45ha and bared surface increases from 120.00ha to 161.31ha between 1976 to 2016 resulting to decline in vegetation, water body, and wetlands. The Decade of rapid urbanization was found to coincide with the period of increased Public Private Partnership Agreement (PPPA). Increase in farmlands was due to the adoption of urban agriculture which has influence on food security and the environmental sustainability. The observed increase in built up areas, farmlands and bare surfaces has substantially led to reduction in vegetation and water bodies. The oscillatory nature of water bodies LULCC which was not particularly consistent with the rates of urbanization also suggests that beyond the urbanization process, other factors may influence the LULCC of water bodies in urban settlements.

Abstract:
Clavulanic acid (CA), a potent inhibitor of the β-lactam, ase enzyme, is frequently co-formulated with a broad spectrum of antibiotics to treat infections caused by β-lactamase-producing pathogens. In order to evaluate the impact and the progress of CA studies in the last four decades, a bibliometric analysis of the global scientific production of CA was carried out. A total of 39,758 records in the field of CA were indexed in the Scopus database for a 43-year period of study (1975–2017). The results indicated that CA studies have grown, showing three phases (1975–1999, 2000–2003 and 2004–2017) based on records of publications; the results showed a sigmoidal profile. Medicine was the main subject area for CA studies, whereas biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology were areas of research for CA production by Streptomyces clavuligerus (S. clavuligerus). Nevertheless, chemical engineering (as a subject area) had the highest increase in the percentage of publications related to CA production by S. clavuligerus. The United States, France, the United Kingdom, Spain and Brazil were the leading countries in the scientific production of studies on both CA and CA related to S. clavuligerus. This analysis allowed the identification of the area of knowledge with the highest impact on CA studies, the top researchers and their geographic distribution, and also helped to highlight the existence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria as an emergent area in CA research.

Abstract. Hot flow anomalies (HFAs) are studied using observations of the magnetometer and the plasma instrument aboard the four Cluster spacecraft. We study several specific features of tangential discontinuities on the basis of Cluster measurements from the time periods of February–April 2003, December 2005–April 2006 and January–April 2007, when the separation distance of spacecraft was large. The previously discovered condition (Facskó et al., 2008) for forming HFAs is confirmed, i.e. that the solar wind speed and fast magnetosonic Mach number values are higher than average. Furthermore, this constraint is independent of the Schwartz et al. (2000)’s condition for HFA formation. The existence of this new condition is confirmed by simultaneous ACE magnetic field and solar wind plasma observations at the L1 point, at 1.4 million km distance from the Earth. The temperature, particle density and pressure parameters observed at the time of HFA formation are also studied and compared to average values of the solar wind plasma. The size of the region affected by the HFA was estimated by using two different methods. We found that the size is mainly influenced by the magnetic shear and the angle between the discontinuity normal and the Sun-Earth direction. The size grows with the shear and (up to a certain point) with the angle as well. After that point it starts decreasing. The results are compared with the outcome of recent hybrid simulations.

Context People with chronic ankle instability (CAI) display a lower regional and global health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Examinations of HRQoL outcomes associated with CAI have addressed younger adults, restricting our understanding of the long-term consequences of CAI. Objective To compare ankle regional and global HRQoL in middle-aged participants with and those without CAI. Design Cross-sectional study. Setting Laboratory. Patients or Other Participants A total of 59 middle-aged volunteers, consisting of 18 with CAI (age = 50.2 ± 9.3 years), 17 who were ankle-sprain copers (age = 54.5 ± 8.7 years), and 24 uninjured controls (age = 56.7 ± 10.0 years). Main Outcome Measure(s) Participants completed the Foot and Ankle Disability Index (FADI) and the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Adult Profile. Regional HRQoL was assessed using the FADI Activities of Daily Living and Sport subscales. Global HRQoL was measured using the 43-item Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System Adult Profile, which contains 7 short forms—Physical Function, Pain Interference, Fatigue, Depression, Sleep Disturbance, Anxiety, and Ability to Participate in Social Roles and Activities. Separate Kruskal-Wallis tests were used to determine between-groups differences. Results Middle-aged participants with CAI had lower scores on both subscales of the FADI than the coper and control groups (all P values <.001). Participants with CAI scored lower on the Physical Function (U = 116.0, z = −2.78, P = .005) and Ability to Participate in Social Roles and Activities (U = 96.0, z = −3.09, P = .002) subscales but higher on the Pain Interference (U = 144.0, z = −2.36, P = .02), Fatigue (U = 110.0, z = −2.72, P = .006), and Depression (U = 110.5, z = −2.91, P = .004) subscales than the control group. Participants with CAI also scored lower on the Physical Function (U = 74.5, z = −2.79, P = .005) and Ability to Participate in Social Roles and Activities (U = 55.0, z = −3.29, P = .001) subscales but higher on the Fatigue (U = 90.0, z = −2.09, P = .04) and Depression (U = 96.5, z = −1.97, P = .048) subscales than the coper group. Conclusions Middle-aged participants with CAI displayed worse ankle regional and global HRQoL than their age-matched healthy counterparts and copers. These results demonstrated that CAI can affect HRQoL outcomes in middle-aged adults.

Renewable energies are increasingly seen as the best solution to a growing global population demanding affordable access to electricity while reducing the need for fossil fuels. Country of Iran has vast untapped solar, wind, geothermal and hydroelectric sources that hold the potential to meet domestic needs. Renewable energy is also essential to Iran as it will curb massive air pollution. In this paper economical and feasibility study of various hybrid systems are performed by using HOMER software model for supplying electricity to the Engineering Department of Islamic Azad University. For this study, annual electricity demand of the university is 1,174,935 kWh with a peak demand of about 331 kW, average wind speeds, based on hourly data during the period of eleven years (2000-2010), are between 3 to 5 m/s in all months of the year. For solar radiation, six models are evaluated to select the best model for estimation of the daily global solar radiation (GSR) on a horizontal surface in the study location. Among these six models, H/HO=a+b (S/S0)+ c(S/S0)2 is chosen as the most optimum model for estimating solar irradiation. The results indicate that among the three hybrid systems for fulfilling electrical energy needs, the Wind/Diesel/Battery hybrid system with 9 wind turbines (20 kW), one diesel generator (300 kW), 50 batteries, and 50 kW power converters with net present cost of $4,281,800 and cost of energy of 0.285 $/kWh is the most economically efficient hybrid system. Abstract This study provides, for the first time, an analysis of the climatological diurnal variations in the lightning flash radiance data product ε from the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Lightning Imaging Sensor (TRMM/LIS). The ε values over 13 years (2002–14), and over a global scale (∼38°S–38°N), reveal novel and remarkably consistent regional and seasonal patterns as a function of the local solar time (LST). In particular, the diurnal variation of ε (over both continental and oceanic regions) is characterized by a monotonic increase from late afternoon (∼2000 LST), attaining a maximum around 0900 LST, followed by a decreasing trend. The continental (oceanic) ε values reach a broader minimum spanning from ∼1500 to 1900 LST (∼1800 to 2000). The relative diurnal amplitude variation in continental ε is about 45%, compared to about 15% for oceanic ε. This study confirms that the results are not affected by diurnal biases associated with instrument detection or other statistical artifacts. Notable agreement is shown between the diurnal variations of ε and the global-scale (∼38°S–38°N) mesoscale convective system areal extent. Comparisons with recently published diurnal variations of cloud-to-ground lightning peak current over the United States also exhibit a marked similarity. Given the novelty of these findings, a few tentative hypotheses about the underlying physical mechanism(s) are discussed.

Patients with focal lesions in the left (n = 7) and right (n = 4) prefrontal cortex were compared with controls (n = 16) in a task-switching experiment using four different, simple spatial tasks. Each of these tasks involved a left-right decision, either regarding an arrow, the word “left” or “right”, a circle position, or the direction of a moving line. We compared performance on trials that required rule switches versus rule repetitions (local switch costs) and we compared performance between blocks with bivalent stimuli (two dimensions present) and blocks with univalent stimuli (only one dimension present) to assess global switch costs. Patients with left prefrontal lesions, but not patients with right prefrontal lesions, exhibited increased costs on trials in which the relevant dimension switched (local switch costs), but also on no-switch trials with bivalent stimuli (global costs). We also assessed task-set inhibition in the form of the backward-inhibition effect [increased response times to recently abandoned tasks; Mayr, U., & Keele, S. Although left frontal patients showed normal inhibition, right frontal patients showed no evidence for inhibition. These results suggest a neurocognitive dissociation between task-set selection and inhibition.

The Southern Ocean (SO) is highly sensitive to climate change. Therefore, an accurate estimate of phytoplankton biomass is key to being able to predict the climate trajectory of the 21st century. In this study, MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), on board EOS Aqua spacecraft, Level 2 (nominal 1 km × 1 km resolution) chlorophyll-a (C S a t ) and Particulate Organic Carbon (POC s a t ) products are evaluated by comparison with an in situ dataset from 11 research cruises (2008–2017) to the SO, across multiple seasons, which includes measurements of POC and chlorophyll-a (C i n s i t u ) from both High Performance Liquid Chromatography (C H P L C ) and fluorometry (C F l u o ). Contrary to a number of previous studies, results highlighted good performance of the algorithm in the SO when comparing estimations with HPLC measurements. Using a time window of ±12 h and a mean satellite chlorophyll from a 5 × 5 pixel box centered on the in situ location, the median C S a t :C i n s i t u ratios were 0.89 (N = 46) and 0.49 (N = 73) for C H P L C and C F l u o respectively. Differences between C H P L C and C F l u o were associated with the presence of diatoms containing chlorophyll-c pigments, which induced an overestimation of chlorophyll-a when measured fluorometrically due to a potential overlap of the chlorophyll-a and chlorophyll-c emission spectra. An underestimation of ∼0.13 mg m − 3 was observed for the global POC algorithm. This error was likely due to an overestimate of in situ POC i n s i t u measurements from the impact of dissolved organic carbon not accounted for in the blank correction. These results highlight the important implications of different in situ methodologies when validating ocean colour products.

A significant majority of reactive cases belonged to the male gender (72.91 %) and the young agegroups 2-4 (43.75%). C o n c l u s i o n : Upon analyzing the results of this study, it was revealed that the number of HBV infected subjects isolatedis rather low in this area but the given figure is still notable in view of its high prevalence in the young age groups.

Abstract. This study reports the first global measurements of acetone in the upper troposphere. Profiles are obtained between 6 and 15 km from measurements made by the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding onboard Envisat (MIPAS–E) from August 2003. The best accuracy and precision is obtained at lower altitudes in the mid-latitudes and poles. We report a strong hemispheric difference in the acetone volume mixing ratios (vmrs) with the highest average concentrations in the Northern Hemisphere (NH) mid-latitude upper troposphere of between 2000 ppt and 3000 ppt. These high distributions are possibly linked to higher vegetative emissions during the NH summer season. Globally, concentrations range between 750 ppt and 3000 ppt in the middle troposphere (300 to 500 hPa) and between 50 ppt and 2000 ppt in the upper troposphere (120 to 200 hPa). The results show the likely strong influence of mid-latitude and boreal processes on the acetone summertime distribution. Zonal distributions of acetone show that vmrs of the gas decrease rapidly with increasing altitude (decreasing pressure) but there is reversible transport between the upper troposphere and the lowermost stratosphere. Acetone vmrs remain fairly constant poleward of 45° S with vmrs between 400 ppt and 500 ppt. Northern Hemisphere vmrs poleward of 45° N are consistently higher than this on a day-to-day basis by between 200 ppt and 1000 ppt on average.

Constant market share analysis is used to measure a country’s trade contribution by comparing a country’s export growth with world export growth. Global value chain analysis is also employed to strengthen the constant market share analysis by looking at the role of green transformation in boosting the Indonesian competitiveness in the global supply chain. To achieve the objective of this study, data was collected from secondary sources such as the United Nations Comtrade Database and Asian Development Bank multi-regional input-output (ADB MRIO) for the period of 2000-2018. Constant market share analysis shows that dirty manufactured products from Indonesia can no longer be relied on to compete in the US and European markets due to the increasingly stringent environmental standards and regulations in those countries. Meanwhile, global value chain analysis finds that the clean manufacturing industry has higher competitiveness than the gross manufacturing industry at the global market level. Kajian ini sangat menarik karena resepsi karya-karyanya yang tidak banyak diterima di tempat kelahirannya, namun populer serta diminati di luar negaranya. Ada dua pertanyaan yang dikaji: pertama, bagaimana tema yang ditampilkan Sa’da>wi> dalam karya-karya fiksinya; kedua, bagaimana relasi keterpengaruhan Sa’da>wi> dengan pemikiran feminis Barat. Adapun tulisan ini menggunakan pendekatan Muqa>ranah dengan metode deskriptif analitik. Tiga karya fiksi yang menjadi sumber primer di antaranya: “Adab am Qillah Adab” (2000), “Suqu>t}u al-Ima>m” (1987), serta “Imra’ah ‘Inda Nuqt}ah al-S{ifr” (1982). Selanjutnya aliran feminis marxis-sosialis menjadi hipogram dalam tulisan ini. Tulisan ini menghasilkan dua hal: pertama, narasi-narasi fiksi-fiksi Sa’dawi merepresentasikan aliran feminis marxist-sosialis; kedua, keterkaitannya dengan aliran ini dengan melihat Sa’da>wi> sebagai perempuan kelas terdidik yang dapat memperoleh akses informasi lebih luas, aktivitas politiknya, serta motivasi kepenulisannya. This article aims to explain influenced Sa’da>wi> fiction with western feminism. This research very interisting because of the receptions of her works are rejected in her country but became popular accepted outside her country. Two questions in this study: first, how Sa’da>wi> shows the theme in her fictional works; second, how does the relation of Sa’da>wi>’s influence with Western feminist thought\. This research uses Muqa>ranah approach with descriptive analytic method. Three works of fiction are the primary source: “Adab am Qillah Adab” (2000), “Suqu>t}u al-Ima>m” (1987) and “Imra’ah ‘Inda Nuqt}ah al-S{ifr” (1982). Further Marxist-socialist feminist flow becomes a hypogram in this paper. This reserch result in two discovering: first, the narratives of Sa’da>wi>’s fictions represent marxist-sosialist feminist stream; second, its association with this flow by seeing Sa’da>wi> as an educated class woman which can gain wider access to information, political activity and writing motivation.

Abstract. A 120 m ice core was drilled on Mill Island, East Antarctica (65°30′ S, 100°40′ E) during the 2009/2010 Australian Antarctic field season. Contiguous discrete 5 cm samples were measured for hydrogen peroxide, water stable isotopes, and trace ion chemistry. The ice core was annually dated using a combination of chemical species and water stable isotopes. The Mill Island ice core preserves a climate record covering 97 years from 1913 to 2009 CE, with a mean snow accumulation of 1.35 m (ice-equivalent) per year (mIE yr−1). This northernmost East Antarctic coastal ice core site displays trace ion concentrations that are generally higher than other Antarctic ice core sites (e.g. mean sodium levels were 254 µEq L−1). The trace ion record at Mill Island is characterised by a unique and complex chemistry record with three distinct regimes identified. The trace ion record in regime A displays clear seasonality from 2000 to 2009 CE; regime B displays elevated concentrations with no seasonality from 1934 to 2000 CE; and regime C displays relatively low concentrations with seasonality from 1913 to 1934 CE. Sea salts were compared with instrumental data, including atmospheric models and satellite-derived sea-ice concentration, to investigate influences on the Mill Island ice core record. The mean annual sea salt record does not correlate with wind speed. Instead, sea-ice concentration to the east of Mill Island likely influences the annual mean sea salt record. A mechanism involving formation of frost flowers on sea ice is proposed to explain the extremely high sea salt concentration. The Mill Island ice core records are unexpectedly complex, with strong modulation of the trace chemistry on long timescales.
