Abstract:
<strong>ABSTRACT</strong> This paper shows how the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) was deployed to implementing a wireless mobile robotic system which can be controlled from anywhere in the world by using mobile phone and Dual Tone Multi-Frequency (DMTF) technique which can move in forward, backward, left and right directions at the press of a button on the mobile phone. The Robotic Control System is able to scan environment and detect human presence and motion with the help of a Pyroelectric Infrared Sensor (PIR) and give a feedback via Short Message Service (SMS) to the user&rsquo;s mobile phone when it detects a human for the necessary action to be taken. In this design, the function of Pyroelectric Infrared Sensor (PIR) is to absorb the infrared radiation from the human body and create a corresponding signal. The detection range without a lens is about three feet but can be extended to up to 90 feet or more by placing an infrared Fresnel lens in front of the sensor. The wavelength of infrared radiation is 9.4 micro meter. This sensor can be used to find the human up to 3 meters to 90 meters distance. It also has a protection device that is Fresnel lenses. An application of this Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) Robotic System with Pyroelectric Infrared Sensor (PIR) is used for rescuing persons during earthquake, building collapse and construction site collapse. This work is executed using a standard engineering software (Proteus) to design the circuit of the system with all its components and simulate its working and performance. The result shows that both the microcontroller and the motor driver circuit worked perfectly well and the motor was able to move the robotic system in different directions for its search. The test results also show that at a nominal speed value of 180 (cm/s), the robot which kept at tolerable stop distance to confirm human presence with an average breaking distance of 5.5cm. Future design should accommodate the provision of solar power supply for the control system in order to prevent the battery from running down completely. Another area of improvement is the addition of Bluetooth interface to the robotic system to enable the user use his/her smartphone to control the system instead of SMS to remove the cost of SMS charges. Finally, future design should also accommodate installation of surveillance camera which will provide visual feedback of environment and target in order to propel corresponding user response.

This work presents a novel microstrip dual-band bandpass filter (BPF) using meandros spirals and patch cells, which is proposed for the first time by this work. It occupies a very compact size of 0.0017 λg2. The proposed filter is designed to operate at Fo1=0.85 GHz and Fo2=1.85 GHz for GSM-850/GSM-1900 applications. In addition to the small size, it has several advantages in terms of wide fractional bandwidths (FBW), low insertion losses and high return losses at both channels. The simulated insertion losses at the lower and upper passbands are 0.05 dB and 0.1 dB, respectively. Another advantage of the proposed BPF of this work is the attenuated harmonics, where it is able to suppress 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th harmonics (4.11 Fo1) with -20 dB maximum harmonic level.

Now a days, Vehicle tracking system plays a major role in our daily life. As the technology grows, vehicle thefts are increasing enormously. This paper proposes to design an embedded system which is used to track and position any vehicle by using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global system for mobile communication (GSM). This helps in monitoring and reporting the status of the moving Vehicle on demand continuously. So, ATMEGA328 microcontroller is serially interfaced to a GSM Modem and GPS Receiver through serial communication protocol RS 232. In this, driver circuit is used to covert TTL voltages into RS 232 voltage levels. Identifying the position of the remote vehicle is done by GPS modem continuously. The current location details like vehicle longitudes and latitudes of the remote vehicle is sent through GSM modem. The output is acquired from GPS modem and displayed on the LCD display. The same data is transmitted to the mobile at the other end from where the position of the vehicle is demanded. Based on the request placed by the user, the position of the vehicle is automatically sent to the corresponding mobile number. So, this project has been implemented to identify lost vehicle, know the status of moving vehicle from remote location and send the information to the user&#39;s mobile number.

Abstract:
The global system for mobile communication (GSM) is planned to meet the needs of the whole subscribers. The number of subscribers increased as the population increased due to the acceptance of GSM services by the subscribers. Thus, there should be a way to monitor base stations that will meet the increasing demand of subscribers in any area as a population surge will lead to more subscriptions. This will allow GSM network operators to serve their subscribers better and ease network congestion. This work presents a review of mobile evolution from the first generation to the fifth generation. A review of global positioning system (GPS) technology and its applications to geographic information systems (GIS) was done. The coordinates of these base stations were taken using a GPS device. These base station coordinates were then exported to QGIS for the design of the map. Thereafter, the output map was then integrated into the website. The discussions on the results followed and some useful suggestions given will go a long way to help the operators of GSM in Nigeria and in general. If the propositions given are adhered to, it will go a long way to help the operators reduce congestion on their network and thereby increase the satisfaction of the subscribers.

This paper presents a smart alarming system applying embedded controllers, ZigBee communication, and GSM knowledge. The method allows users to wirelessly monitor their properties, such as companies and houses, through Short Service Message (SMS) alerts. The primary unit and its subunits are the two basic parts of the system. As the primary hub, the main unit is equipped with two microcontrollers, a motion sensor, a ZigBee module, and a GSM interface. For monitoring, sub-units covering a motion sensor, ZigBee module, and microcontroller can be placed in different locations. These sub-units use a Point-to-Multipoint system (PTMS) to wirelessly connect with the main unit. When a motion sensor in a monitored area detects movement, it sends an alarm and wirelessly communicates the address of the relevant room to the main unit. The user receives an SMS alert with the room's address as soon as the main unit, which is connected to GSM, goes off Additionally, one of the sub-units can be linked to a laptop within the same building, facilitating comprehensive room monitoring. This system offers users a flexible and efficient solution for remote premises monitoring.

&lt;p&gt;The magnitude of technological developments can be better understood nowadays in line with the developments particularly in the communication and mobile phone industries. These developments do not only trigger the production of new technology for mobile phones but they also bring forward the issue of conveying this technology to users. The applications and services produced for mobile phones are generally introduced to the market via Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) operators providing communication services. Users’ benefiting from these applications and services in their mobile phones or from their operators, depends on their preference of a GSM operator that has the capacity to meet the users’ needs. This study has aimed to determine the factors that influence the preference of a mobile phone operator among university students, the most active age group using mobile phones. Both factor analysis and multiple logistic regression analysis are used to determine the influential factors and the degree of influence in the preference of a GSM operator. It has been identified that the most influential variable on the preference of a GSM operator is the communication expenses as a socio-economic factor, whereas the brand factor is the most important variable in deciding which GSM operator service to purchase.&lt;/p&gt;

Abstract:
Short Message Service (SMS) has upgraded and elevated our lives and is principal in our livelihood. This service has been driven by the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) which is the most popular standard for mobile telephony systems. As a result, the GSM has constituted the moderate execution of short message service (SMS), which has uplifted mobile phone quality. A proper understanding of the essentials of SMS/MMS security opens the door to prevent some common security. which has fostered the prevention of some common threats in SMS usage. Unfortunately, the SMS does not has any built-in vetting procedure to authenticate the text or provide security for the data/text, and supportive phone facilities are designed without considering the SMS/MMS security aspects. There is also a problem of mobile applications developer and the mobile service providers not knowing the correct identities of the communicating parties, and also the problem of little to no SMS/MMS content confidentiality and integrity during data transmission. This paper is aimed at addressing these problems by focusing on the use of substitution techniques of audio steganography. We achieve our method by having a low robustness against attacks which try to reveal the hidden message. This allows only SMS that is encrypted, and application to multimedia messages needs to be further investigated. Furthermore, encryption is done using substitution cipher methods. We also analyze the security mechanism based on the mobile security requirements and mobile performance capability. Analysis of the security mechanism based on the mobile security requirements and mobile performance capability is carried out. After an exhaustive computer simulation, the performance of the proposed method is confirmed. The result obtained showed that compression ratio achieved is within the range of 0.1 and 0.5, the best achieved so far.

With the evolution of technology that has occurred in digital systems, new services have appeared that can be applied in railways. Radio communications play an important role in the management of, exploration and maintenance of railway transports. Due to the importance of efficient service delivery and security in railways, there is need to integrate the use of the Global System for Mobile communication and global positioning systems. Transportation is a large and important part of the economy of any country. Railway transportation is one of the main transportation systems worldwide. To this effect, we should have a good and strong monitoring system that can locate a train at every instant. In this research, a proposal has been made for the implementation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) and global system for mobile communication (GSM) based train monitoring system on Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) railway network that will enable controllers locate their trains at every instant. The GPS-GSM/GPRS (General Packet Radio System) module will be incorporated in the system. A GSM/GPRS module will transmit the location information to a web server. Every track and locomotive will be assigned a unique number for identification. The information of the train location will be continuously updated when the train is moving and the users will be accessing the information via the web. The updated information will be stored in the web server. Clients will request for particular train status and a designed web application will show the status in a Google map. An alternative radio voice communication system will be incorporated in the locomotives in case of failure on the monitoring system. This implementation will greatly improve service delivery to the company.

Abstract:
The present study deals with the development of remote control system based on the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM) technology for switching the low voltage AC power supply system at residential consumer. Function of this system is to disconnect and reconnect the electricity supply to consumers. The introduction of the GSM technology and particularly the use of hand-held mobile phones has brought the innovative distance communication to remote locations. This utilization of this technology for the remote control of systems and appliances will make life easier, safe and quick from anywhere. GSM module was used for receiving short message service (SMS) from user’s mobile phone that automatically enable the controller to take any further action such as to switch on and off the consumer load at the incoming power supply. The system was integrated with microcontroller and GSM network interface using assembly language. AVR Studio 4 software was utilized to accomplish the integration. The system is activated when user sends the SMS to GSM controller circuit at electric meter consumption panel board. Upon receiving the SMS command, the microcontroller unit then automatically controls the incoming power supply by switching on or off the device according to the user command. In other words, the developed system reads message from the mobile phone and responds to control the devices according to the received message. The system can also give feedback to the user to inform the status of switching operation if such command is received.

Abstract:
AbstractA digital, wireless telephone system, the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), was introduced in Australia in 1993. Studies were conducted at the National Acoustic Laboratories to determine how the use of GSM mobile telephones (i.e., wireless telephones) causes interference in hearing aids and how hearing aids could be made more immune to such interference. A measurement system was developed, and measurements are presented for a variety of standard and treated hearing aids. Effective treatments include the addition of shunt capacitors to the hearing aid circuit and shielding by applying a conductive coating to the hearing aid case. Some recently produced microphones also increase immunity. High immunity levels can be achieved in future hearing aids, sufficient to prevent interference from other people’s use of a wireless telephone and that often permit use of digital mobile telephones by hearing aid users. Audiologists will have an increasing role in advising hearing aid wearers on the use of wireless telephones or other communications equipment.
