Abstract Globe valves serve many purposes in oil and gas facilities as a tool to control fluid flow in pipelines. However, older designs of globe valves suffer many problems and faults, mainly from valve leakage and valve passing. In mitigating these problems, this paper will improve the design of a globe valve to enhance its fluid flow performance and reduce the pressure difference value throughout the valve. The improvements on the valve will be validated from the original design with the help of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The project concluded that

Globe valves are essential components in fluid control systems, widely used in various industries for regulating flow. This paper provides an overview of globe valves, focusing on their design, operation, and applications. The distinctive spherical body shape of globe valves allows for precise control of fluid flow through the system. The paper discusses the internal components of globe valves, including the valve stem, disk, seat, and bonnet, highlighting their roles in the valve's functionality. A globe valve is a common device that performs flow control in a pipe system. The flow capability of the globe valve is estimated by a flow coefficient. To improve the control capability of the globe valve, a cage is utilized to adjust the flow coefficient in the valve. For example, if one feels like decreasing the flow coefficient, then a cage with numerous passageways will be considered rather than replacing a smaller valve and pipe. A double cages design is also employed to reach the same purpose. The flow coefficient of the valve is associated with passageways in the cage. Provided that th

Cavitation inside globe valves, which is a common phenomenon if there is a high-pressure drop, is numerically investigated in this study. Firstly, the cavitation phenomenon in globe valves with a different number of cages is compared. When there is no valve cage, cavitation mainly appears at the valve seat, the bottom of the valve core, and the downstream pipelines. By installing a valve cage, cavitation bubbles can be restricted around the valve cage protecting the valve body from being damaged. Abstract:
During the pre-operational blowdown testing of the AP1000® Automatic Depressurization System (ADS), it was observed that several ADS Stage 1-3 balanced globe valves did not fully open; however, the valves did sufficiently open to provide adequate ADS flow to meet the ADS System depressurization safety function. Since the Main Control Room did not receive a full-open signal indicating that the ADS valves fully completed the valve stroke, the valves were disassembled to determine the potential cause and scoring was observed on the valve disk and valve body guide surfaces. Abstract Load Sensitive Behavior (LSB) is a phenomenon identified in the 1990’s through a series of dynamic flow loop tests conducted by INEL on motor operated gate valves that were closed under torque and limit switch control during various dynamic flow and pressure conditions. The tests showed that the operator thrust required to close the valve under the dynamic conditions of both flow and pressure can exceed a switch setting that was established under static pressure conditions only, which may result in valve motor shutoff prior to fully seating the gate valve. For motor operated gate valv

Proper actuator sizing and valve-stem guide selection requires accurate knowledge of the thrust requirements for linear valves. For globe valves, the flow-induced forces acting on the disc can be a substantial part of the total required thrust that the actuator is required to overcome. The flow-induced forces acting on the globe valve disc are decomposed into the rejection (or axial) force and the transverse (or side load) force. The axial force acts along the disc stem axis and the transverse force acts perpendicular to the disc stem axis. The axial force generally lends itself to simple anal

The Global Economic Diversification Index (EDI) 2025 report provides valuable longitudinal datasets to inform policy, research, and economic development efforts across the globe. It specifically highlights the importance of economic diversification for commodity-producing nations to mitigate the risks of growth, trade, and revenue volatility. The report underscores the vulnerability of countries dependent on commodities to various shocks, such as price fluctuations, climate change, and global pandemics. Successful diversification can be accelerated through adopting new technologies and digital

From pet food to sunscreen, proposals to cut value-added tax (VAT) on a range of products and services are ever increasing. One of the best-known and far-reaching campaigns of this type has been the fight to abolish VAT on feminine hygiene products. More popularly known as the ‘tampon tax’, this issue has united campaigners from across to globe, contributing to policymakers in up to 25 countries removing or reducing taxes on menstrual products since Kenya’s landmark decision in 2004. Framed through a simple and evocative lens of fairness and equality, the campaign to end the ‘tampon tax’ has c

Smart urban agriculture initiatives where food is produced in closed, controlled and digitally augmented environments, such as vertical farms, plant factories and aquaponics systems can be found in cities across the globe. Such initiatives produce fresh food all year around using less chemicals and require fewer food miles. However, critiques of smart urban agriculture suggest it is a marginal activity that often produces food with low nutritional value and requires energy intensive artificial lighting.
