The aim of the study is to identify and record the taxonomic notes on species of Genus Globigerinoides from the study area located in Kafe field of the offshore western Niger Delta area of Nigeria. 550 ditch cuttings samples were retrieved at 18.29 metres intervals from the five wells studied (Kafe-1, Kafe-2, Kafe-4, Kafe-5 and Kafe-6). The standard micropaleontological preparation technique for foraminiferal samples was employed. The foraminiferal contents were identified under binocular microscope and recorded. A rich planktonic foraminiferal assemblage including two new species, Globorotalia sinuososuturalis n. sp. and Paragloborotalia lefkaraensis n. sp., have been recorded in the uppermost part of the sedimentary cover of Troodos Massif, exposed in Northern Cyprus. The continuity of chalk and marl deposits throughout the Aquitanian-Langhian time interval, with an abundant and well diversified assemblage, has provided to establish a detailed biostratigraphic framework which can be generally comparable with the recent standard and regional zonations. ABSTRACT In this study, we quantify the impact of environmental conditions (temperature, productivity, and salinity) and taphonomic (carbonate dissolution) processes in the test (shell) size variation of planktonic foraminifera. To do so, we measured the cross-sectional area of over 16,000 tests from core SAT-048A, recovered from the Western South Atlantic. Core SAT-048A spans the last 45 ka and was collected in a highly dynamic (palae)oceanographic setting. The reliability of foraminifera as stratigraphic index fossils, and as isotopic proxies of marine environments, is based on the assumption that the fossil concepts represent uniform species, responding consistently to their ambient environments. Understanding sources of uncertainty is, therefore, critical. (2) If so, how does the timing compare to that of other large ice sheets and mountain glaciers in both hemispheres? The use of planktonic foraminiferal Mg/Ca ratios to reconstruct past sea surface temperatures (SST) is prevalent in the literature. The perceived simplicity of the underlying chemistry and ease of measurements are alluring. Canonically, temperature is thought to be the primary control on the shell Mg/Ca values. Additionally, an appeal of this proxy is that it can be combined with shell ä18O values to reconstruct changes in the local ä18O of seawater, a proxy for salinity. However, we have identified a salinity effect on the Mg/Ca signal recorded in planktonic foraminifera influencing

Our results indicate that the δ44Ca of G. sacculifer varies as a function of sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface salinity (SSS). The Caribbean Sea SSS, reconstructed by combining the δ18O and Mg/Ca ratios of G. sacculifer and sea level change data, shows significant fluctuations between 36.5 and 39.5 psu during the last 20 ka.
