Full textBackground: Cancer is one of the world's most common diseases and the second most common cause of death. Patients' right to participate in care and treatment is statutory and underpins medical treatment and care. Seeing the person behind the patient is important to understand their life world. Nursing's basic care role is to support patients with what they do not manage. Objective: To describe patients' experience of how the nurse can promote a good care relationship, at an oncology department. Method: The study is a literature review. The data material consisted of twelve qualitative, three quantitative and two mixed designed scientific articles. Results: The analyzed result is presented in four different main themes and associated subheadings. These main themes are: Treatment and information as a basis for the care relationship, Relieving patient needs, Emotional support, Creation of a close care relationship. Discussion: The discussion shows that patients need personalized information and support. In order for this to happen, the nurse must be able to identify the patient's needs. Unless the needs are met, it can create an unnecessary care suffering for the patient. A good care relationship is therefore based on the patient feeling safe and seen in the care.

Full textBackground: About 70% of all women in the world have sometimes been the victims of violence. Research has shown that health professionals are afraid of asking about the violence. Health professionals have a responsibility when it comes to detecting and identifying violence against the women. Aim: The aim of this study was to illustrate physically battered women's experiences of what characterizes a good health care relationship. Method: The study was conducted as a general literature review, this with the help of 11 scientific articles. Result: The main findings were a confirmation dialog, a confidence and trust-building relationship and a professional approach. Conclusion: Clinicians should show respect for battered women and also be good listeners. Body language can show if a person really mean what he/she says. As health professionals, it is important to figure out where you self stands on the issue of violence, so you can put it aside and give the patient the optimal care that is needed. Every meeting with a patient creates an opportunity to get to know her better. In this way an individual care can be given.

Full textBackground: The purpose of nursing care is to achieve patient health through a person-centred approach. Many nurses claim that they want to provide good nursing care but the concept varies between nurses. Implementing good nursing care is prevented by structural and organisational barriers that affect patient safety. To reduce the discrepancy between the knowledge of what quality care means and the quality of the actual care provided, increased knowledge of what patients perceive as good nursing care is needed. Aim: The aim was to illuminate patients’ perceptions of what good nursing care signifies in an inpatient setting. Method: The literature review has been made in accordance with Fribergs method. Searches were conducted using the databases CINAHL complete, PsychINFO and PubMed, resulting in ten qualitative articles that were analyzed and thematized and thus constitute the result. Results: Two main themes and five subthemes were identified; A person-centred care with the subthemes; See me, I am unique, The need for a person to person relationship and The importance of the presence of the nurse. The nurses’ approach with the subthemes; Compassion- a caring attitude and The importance of competence and information. Discussion: The method of the literature review is discussed from its strengths and weaknesses. The result of the literature review is discussed in relation to the concepts in Jean Watsons’ nursing theory. Good nursing care is characterized according to patients by a present nurse whose personal attitude is characterized by compassion. The attitude favours a human caring relationship and a person-centred approach.
