The population of Baikal seals Phoca sibirica has been plagued in 1987-88 by an unknown disease. Oligonucleotide probing of nucleic acids isolated from tissues of ill and dead animals, as well as immunological evidence and clinical data suggested that seals were infected by a morbillivirus. Morbillivirus antigen has been vizualized in dead seal tissues by immunoelectron microscopy (preembedding technique). The present report gives outline of electron microscopic studies of the tissues of infected Baikal seals. Background: Spinal epidural angiolipomas (SEAL) are rare benign tumors composed of mature adipose tissue and abnormal blood vessels. SEALs account for 0.04–1.2% of all spinal tumors and 2–3% of spinal extradural lesions. They are usually found in the mid-thoracic dorsal extradural region. Here, we present the case of a 52-year-old female with a rare SEAL involving multiple thoracic levels. Case Description: A 52-year-old female presented with mid-thoracic pain and paraparesis (motor strength 3/5 proximal/distal). The arms are differenced by a label of three points, indicating that it belonged W an eldest son. Since the seal has a British provenance and the arms were only granted in 1592, there are only two contenders for its ownership – John Winthrop II (1588–1649), who emigrated to America in 1630 and became the first governor of Massachusetts, and his son, John Winthrop III (1606–76), who joined his father in America in 1631 and governed Connecticut from 1660 to 1676. It was unexpectedly discovered in an irrigation ditch being repaired by a farmer in Kyushu. After fabrication of the MEMS switch and subsequent formation of the microshell, the switches are released through gold tunnels that allow the penetration of a chemical etchant. In a controlled ambient, a “stamp” wafer is aligned to the device wafer, and the wafers are thermally compressed together. This process applies pressure across each tunnel to fuse the gold, thereby sealing the microshell packages.

Abstract:
The far north of Manitoba is endowed with potential for base and precious metals, diamonds, uranium, and rare metals. The goal of a collaborative project between the Manitoba Geological Survey and the Geological Survey of Canada was to provide an advanced framework of geoscience knowledge for mineral exploration and land-use management. Bedrock mapping, geophysical surveys, and geochemical and geochronological analyses carried out in 2005 to 2011 in the far north of Manitoba showed diverse and complex rocks that record nearly two billion years of Earth history. Abstract:
The Performance Challenge Fund (PCF), established by the DILG in 2010, is a performance-based incentive program that gives financial subsidies to local government units (LGUs) that are awarded with the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG). Almost a decade after its introduction, how has the PCF evolved and been appreciated by local governments? Facing challenges such as budgetary constraints and the presence of other national government programs that offer support to local governments, is there a need for improvements in the design of the PCF and what are these areas that might foster improved

Abstract:
The population status of the sea-migrating trout is in many cases unknown. Where recruitment status is known, many of the populations are at low levels, especially in the Bothnian Sea. There is a need to obtain more knowledge to be able to manage sea trout sustainably in the long run, as the species is very popular among anglers. It has been suggested that “index streams” for sea trout should be established (Magnusson et al. 2020, 2023, Magnusson 2023), where data on recruitment, smolt migration and spawning migration are collected and analyzed. The purpose of this report is to gather and comp

Abstract:
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) completed a total of 25 high friction surface treatment (HFST) projects across the state in 2018. This research study attempted to investigate the durability and performance of HFST in terms of its HFST-pavement system integrity and surface friction performance. Laboratory tests were conducted to determine the physical and mechanical properties of epoxy-bauxite mortar. Field inspections were carried out to identify site conditions and common early HFST distresses. Cyclic loading test and finite element method (FEM) analysis were performed to eva

The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) undertook marine fieldwork onboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Vector to locate and map potential geohazards and geological features in the Salish Sea in the interest of public safety from August 11-18, 2021. This work was conducted under the Natural Resources Canada Marine Geoscience for Marine Spatial Planning (MGMSP) and the Public Safety Geoscience Programs. The GSC had observed multiple potential faults in existing data near Central Haro Strait, Stuart Channel, South of Hornby Island and near Cape Lazo through existing CHIRP and multibeam bat

Abstract:
Although current manufacturing methods result in highly reliable welds in ERW pipe, occasional small bond line defects, difficult to detect with present nondestructive test techniques, still are found. The development of improved inspection techniques to permit the detection of such small defects is a difficult undertaking. An Alternative approach toward increasing the reliability of ERW pipe is to insure that the weld region is able to tolerate the presence of any undetected defects without failure, that is, to insure that the weld has adequate ductility. Studies were conducted to determine w
