During a visit to Palestine in 1853, A P. Stanley, then canon of Canterbury, sent missives to friends as he went along, describing his reactions to the Holy Land. Goldwin Smith, a fellow at University College Oxford, enthused, ‘You have nothing to do but to piece together your letters, cut off their heads and tails, and the book is done.’ Sinai and Palestine (1856) became his most popular work. Fiber composition of seven varieties of apple; Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, McIntosh, Stayman, Red Rome, and York were studied. Hydrolyzates of fiber fractions from fruit samples of these varieties were analyzed for rhamnose, fucose, arabinose, xylose, mannose, galactose, and glucose content. Fiber composition of Red Delicious and Golden Delicious apples at different developmental stages were also studied. Fruit were analyzed every 15 days starting from 30 days after fruit set through maturity. Marked varietal difference was observed in the rhamnose, fucose, galactose, and ma

The question is whether the power spectrum is indeed the result of a dynamical turbulence or is merely the result of a structured static density. SUMMARYLack of effective chilling during the dormant season is one of the major problems when apples are growing under a tropical climate. We evaluated the response of different apple cultivars (Golden Delicious, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith and Jonagold) grown on M9 rootstock with different dormancy-management practices. The trials were carried out between 2004 and 2006 in a tropical mountain area (Tigray, Ethiopia), where chilling conditions are poor with the aim of improving and synchronizing the bud break and the blossoming period of these apple cultivars. In a previous study we found that the fruit set and yield of the apple cultivar `Topred' was reduced when it was pollinated by a semi compatible cultivar.
