Full textSince several tens of years, the assessment of local to regional seismic hazard - mainly based on seismology and tectonic analysis - is reinforced by paleoseismic data yielded by recent sedimentary archives. Based on the expertise acquired by the LGCA on the Sea of Marmara (North-Anatolian Fault) and on the South-Caribbean Plate boundary (Boconó Fault), the present work aimed to : 1. Bring a methodological contribution to the assessment of earthquake-related deposits, 2. Separate the paleo-environmental information (climate, human impact) from the paleoseismic ones, 3. Contribute to the understanding of tectono-sedimentary systems on a regional scale. Two main sites have been elected along the Egean Arc. The Corinth Gulf (Greece) and the Shkodra Lake (Albania/Montenegro boundary). A preliminary high resolution seismic reflection survey of the Cariaco Gulf (north-eastern Venezuela) is added. The two sites were chosen in order to compare two sedimentary accumulations undergoing similar historical seismicity (close to 7 in magnitude, 2 to 3 major events per century), but very different with respect to depositional depth, sedimentary processes, and accumulation rates. The records are lasting respectively 20 kyr (Corinth) and 10 kyr (Shkodra) back from Present. The use of Anisotropy of Magnetic Susceptibility was developed. For each site, the search of sedimentary traces of historical earthquakes preceded the possible extrapolation of the results back to longer periods. The Shkodra site (very shallow) did not yield significant paleoseismic archive, but well a marked climatic signal since more than 7000 years. For the Corinth site, the frequency of layers possibly related to earthquakes is compatible with regional historical data and show enhanced exportation in the depth by mass wasting during the lacustrine phase. Eustatic fluctuations effect on sedimentation were also identified. The Cariaco site displays few co-seismic disturbances visible at seismic imagery scale. Nevertheless, our results enabled to define faults systems present in the Gulf and also propose a very first chronological framework for the sedimentation

Full textThe Cariaco basin provide an ideal location to study the organic matter (OM) preservation processes in particular the natural sulfurization, since it has presented recurrent euxinic conditions along its history. To better understand the OM preservation processes, we have studied the varved sediments of Cariaco in a time interval of 130 ky. In this study, we have employed an artifact free method based on stepwise hydrolysis for the isolation of kerogen. This method permitted to obtain important amounts of monomeric carbohydrates, accounting for up to 3% of the total organic carbon. Those algal/bacterial-derived carbohydrates present a decrease with depth related to in situ degradation and/or incorporation to the macromolecular matrix. The investigation of the organic extracted biomarkers corroborate the authochtonous origin of the OM. Nevertheless, an important contribution of terrestrial OM was observed in the samples from glacials periods. The natural sulfurization process have an important role in the preservation of OM in Cariaco basin. The intramolecular sulfurization was revealed by the presence of free alkylthiophenes and thiolanes. Raney nickel desulfurization and kerogen pyrolysis also revealed intermolecular sulfurization. The natural sulfurization does not present a global increase in the time interval studied. This process respond to variations in climatic conditions, redox conditions in the water column and sediments and also to the reactivity and availability of the molecular precursors

Full textThe study of columbian maritime policy is focussed on two points. The first point corresponds to columbian policy on maritime areas, the second to the columbian policy on marine resources. The columbian policy on maritime areas is considered from the historical establishment of the territorial sovereignty of columbia considering administrative and juridicial contributions made by the spanish colonies. Columbian maritime policy is developed in the context of measures taken by latin american conferences and maritime law. Columbia columbia determines the expansion of the maritime areas according to the tenth law of 1978. Called the law of the sea. The second point of study of columbian maritime policy corresponds to a policy on maritime resources. This policy is developed in the context of measures taken by latin american states columbia develops a national maritime policy across the developement plan of maritime sciences and technologies. This plan is formulated and developed into two stages. The first stage corresponds to the period 1980-1990, the second corresponds to 1990-2000, columbia develops a maritime policy across participation in international policy, looking to conserve marine resources and fighting against marine pollution. The columbian state signs and ratifies veral treaties
