Abstract:
El artículo aborda tres categorías, mestizaje, hibridez y transmedialidad, a partir de las prácticas fronterizas de Guillermo Gómez Peña y el grupo de performance La Pocha Nostra. Se propone acercar la categoría de transmedialidad a una serie de preguntas sobre los imaginarios raciales y culturales latinoamericanos que he articulado en otros escritos, especialmente en relación a las categorías de mestizaje e hibridez. Así como mestizaje e hibridez han sido usadas para construir identidades culturales «estables» y han sido teorizadas para deconstruir esas mismas identidades (Bhabha, Pérez Torres), la transmedialidad pareciera reproducir un movimiento si no idéntico, similar en algunos aspectos, algo que la obra de Gómez Peña sugiere por medio de una yuxtaposición constante de las tres categorías. La exacerbación de la transmedialidad en la obra en yuxtaposición permanente con el mestizaje y la hibridez abre preguntas sobre los alcances y efectos políticos de los dispositivos transmediales, poniendo sobre el tapete preguntas de orden político sobre el control de los cuerpos, los movimientos migratorios, el imperialismo, el colonialismo, la globalización.

Resumo: O artigo pretende problematizar o diálogo entre literatura e estudos de performance no que tange ao questionamento do próprio conceito de literatura a partir da emergência de novas teorias da cultura após a década de 1960. De feição transdisciplinar, os estudos de performance convocam, na sua interface com o texto literário, um novo tipo de leitor a partir de um movimento que transforma o texto em ato. Como estudo de caso, convocamos um texto-manifesto de Guillermo Gómez-Peña que performatiza seu discurso através da transgressão às convenções literárias, sem deixar de dialogar com uma tradição de construção deste tipo de narrativa.Palavras-Chave: Literatura comparada; estudos de performance; transdisciplinaridade.Abstract: This article aims to present a dialogue between literature and performance studies based on the new concepts of literature from the emergence of new theories of culture after the 1960s. Marked by transdisciplinarity, the performance studies need a new type of reader at its interface with the literary text, from a movement that transforms the text into action. As a case study, we call a manifest text by Guillermo Gómez-Peña who performs his speech by transgression of literary conventions, while dialogues with a tradition of this kind of narrative.Keywords: Comparative literature; performance studies; transdisciplinarity.

Se analizan las transformaciones de los partidos políticos y del sistema de partidos, tras la desaparición de los líderes fundadores de los tres principales partidos políticos modernos: Bosch (PLD), Peña Gómez (PRD) y Balaguer (PRSC). Se analizan los procesos constitutivos del sistema de partidos y los estilos de liderazgo. Se discute la relación del sistema de partidos con el Estado, destacando su ascendiente neopatrimonialista y la función del clientelismo. Finalmente, se proponen algunas notas destacando el proceso de formación de una élite neopatrimonialista y el manejo clientelar de la política electoral.

Para os autores, apenas atravessar a fronteira física México/EUA não significa necessariamente fazer travessia por completo, uma vez que as “fronteiras” culturais e econômicas são as verdadeiras divisoras entre, de um lado, os imigrantes e seus descendentes e, de outro, os americanos. Mesmo assim, os Chicanos lutam para ter voz. Anzaldúa e Gómez-Peña mostram o poder do hibridismo desses imigrantes, representado em suas escritas experimentais, misturando Inglês e Espanhol, prosa e poesia, enfatizando, assim, o rompimento de fronteiras, inclusive o de gêneros literários. A tese examina a importância da Literatura produzida pelos Chicanos, pois seus trabalhos revelam as contribuições culturais e econômicas dessa imigração para a sociedade americana<br>The objective of this dissertation is to analyze The New World Border (1996), by Guillermo Gómez-Peña, and Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza (1987), by Gloria Anzaldúa, in order to show how these writers approach identity matters faced by Chicanos in the US, since it is not easy for them to choose between keeping their traditions and living the American way of life. According to the authors, the mere act of crossing the Mexico/US border alone does not necessarily result in crossing the “frontiers” that really separate these immigrants and their offspring from Americans, that is, the cultural and economic barriers. Nevertheless, the Chicanos fight for the right to be heard. Anzaldúa and Gómez-Peña reveal the power of Chicano hybridism, represented in their experiments with language, writing in English and Spanish, prose and verse, thus emphasizing the rupture of frontiers, including that of literary genres. This dissertation addresses the importance of the literature produced by Chicanos, since their writings reveal the extent of Chicano contribution to American cultural life and society

Abstract:
This thesis explores the role of translation in the production and manipulation of identities in the contemporary Americas as exemplified in the work of Guillermo Gómez-Peña. Underscoring the instrumentality of borders vis-à-vis dominant constructions of identity and in connection with questions of language, race, and citizenship, I argue that translation not only functions as an agent of hegemonic superiority and oppression, but also as a locus of plurivocity and hybridization. Drawing from the concepts “continuous variation” (Deleuze and Guattari [1987] 2004), “coloniality of power” (Mignolo 2000), and “hybridization” (García-Canclini 1995), I discuss the connection of translation with three main topics: monolingualism, globalization, and racial hybridity. First, I discuss the influence that the dominant ideology of the nation-state has exerted on the way translation has been conceptualized since translation studies emerged as a field. Then I turn to colonial legacies in the Americas and the role of translation in situations of language hegemony as shaped by forces of assimilation and diversification. Finally, I look at translation as a crucial agent for the production and legitimization of Latin American identity throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Viewing translation as a performative and transformative activity, I critique a number of contemporary approaches to translation and I point to new understandings of translation as a cluster concept (Tymoczko 2007) in order to expand translation theory and practice beyond Western paradigms.
