When social movement organizations receive extensive newspaper coverage, why is it sometimes substantive and sometimes not? By “substantive,” we mean coverage that reflects serious treatment of the movement's issues, demands, or policy claims. Scholars agree that the news media are key to movement organizations' influence, helping them alter public discourse and effect political change, but often find that protests are covered nonsubstantively. Employing insights from literatures on historical institutionalism, the social organization of the news, and the consequences of movements, we elaborat

This chapter outlines tensions among unions in the energy sector and debates about a pro-climate, pro-worker agenda. Proposals for “green jobs” that protect the environment do not ensure good, union jobs. Energy-sector unions have often been wary of such proposals, arguing correctly that green jobs are rarely available in the same quality or quantity as jobs in fossil-fuel industries. Drawing on cases from climate initiatives in New York State, this chapter argues that unions must be at the table when proposals to expand green jobs are designed and implemented. It outlines a practical plan for unions to work with politicians and communities to ensure “just transition.” The chapter explains that while climate change issues have often pitted labor unions against the environmental movement and its progressive allies, there are also examples of successful “blue–green” alliances. These coalitions strengthen the labor movement by forging new ties with important allies and allowing workers to proactively shape the role of unions and workers in the emerging green economy.

The major drawback of this approach is that the lack of voluntary movement of the patient may affect the proficiency of the recovery process. This chapter discusses the idea of leadership especially at schools from the Islamic perspective. It also highlights some strategies to become an effective principal who can lead effectively and be emulated by all school members. In every movement, word, and action, a good principal should uphold Islamic values which have been modelled by the Rasulullah SAW through his teachings and Sunnah. A good principal should have positive influence to all school members by encouraging them to move together developing the school. The roles of a school principal as a leader are very important especially in helping the school members improving the quality of education and shaping the religious characters of the school community. An effective principal is not only playing the roles of a successful teacher that can be emulated by others, but also as a leader who is respected for his leadership and good behaviours.

For the past few decades, an increase in experimental research has been carried out in enhancing the quality-of-life of the persons with different levels of disabilities. To enhance the lifestyle of differently disabled in terms of their mobility or movement or transportation, a proper aid with appropriate human-computer interface system is needed. So, in this chapter, a hybrid classification model is proposed, which combines and uses hM-GM and ANN models, for classifying human speech signal, especially the word for driving a wheelchair for helping the people, who seek transportation. For classifying the correct word from the phase of sentence (i.e., the human speech signal) to corresponding trigger command for an electrically powered wheelchair prototype, under the certain experimental condition, the hM-GM model yields good recognition of words, but they suffer major limitations as it relies on strong statistical properties and probability. Hence, by combining hM-GM and ANN model-based classifier for enhancing the accuracy of classifying the word to corresponding trigger command.

The Rochdale consumer cooperative movements in Australia and the United States, while weak by international standards, have played a significant role in increasing the power of many consumers over the price, quality, and quantity of consumer goods. There have been peaks and troughs in the history of these co-ops for a variety of reasons including inflation, social unrest, competition from private retailers, the level of labor movement and state support, and the influence of immigrant groups. Prior to the end of World War II, Rochdale consumer cooperatives in both countries fluctuated in strength, but they declined in the postwar period with spectacular collapses during the 1980s. Abstract:
Information communications technologies (ICTs) are one of the major areas of research and investment in developing countries because they seem to serve the cause of democratisation and empowering citizens by extending the public sphere. ICTs and especially Internet are regarded as the new public sphere for they seem to lie outside the market and the State, nurtured by civil society serving the cause of good governance and democratisation and empowering grassroots initiatives, giving them access to critical information, organising political actions, influencing public opinion and policy-making. This chapter examines the ‘publicness’ of the telecentres in the framework of public sphere as defined by Habermas. The chapter uses telecentres as representative of ‘technology mediated public space’ created by ICTs and Internet and examines two approaches to the Telecentre movement, analysing whether Telecentres can meet the requirements of the rational-critical discussions and if and what factors influence the extension of the public sphere. The chapter concludes that while the telecentres create opportunities to improve communication and reconnect citizens to the State, offering greater access to information and support for group based discussion, they are likely to support only incremental modifications to the democratic system because the current use of information communication technologies (ICTs) concentrates primarily on information provision, and not linkages that improve the quality of democratic discourse.

Abstract:
The article presents a comparative analysis of the nature and content of the concepts of risk and business reputation of the organization. The factors that may affect the process of digitalization of the economy in Russia are identified. The relationship between digitalization of the economy and the business reputation of industrial companies is defined. The refined definition of risk suggests considering risk as an economic phenomenon, which is an integral element of all socio-economic processes that occur in the organization, and is able to lead the system out of balance and, consequently, either improve its performance, or lead to undesirable losses, or destroy. The complete concept of business reputation is that it defines it as a stable representation in the minds of contractors of the organization (consumers, government agencies, suppliers, commercial banks) about the good faith of the fulfillment of its obligations, a high level of quality of the products of the efficiency of the implementation of business contracts. The interrelation between increase in business reputation and growth of competitiveness of the industrial organizations is shown. The quantitative index for assessing the level of goodwill by the dynamics of the revealed violations of the organizations in the industry is proposed. The dynamics of this indicator of industrial organizations of the Russian Federation in 2011–2017 is investigated. Such directions of reducing the risk of business reputation of the industrial organization of the Russian Federation as the development of tools for motivating personnel, the intensification of the use of professional psychological assistance for employees and management of industrial companies, the movement of their business reputation in social networks, the improvement of PR-companies of industrial enterprises, the development of self-regulatory organizations of the industry and the intensification of their activities in the management of the process of ensuring business reputation are revealed. The necessity of formation of independent qualified ratings of business reputation of domestic industrial companies formed in the context of sub-sectors of a particular sector of the economy and regions of the Russian Federation is shown.

Abstract:
Besides oil, coffee is one of the most traded commodities worldwide. Colombia is known as the producer of the highest quality coffee in the world, thanks to its smooth taste and aroma. One of the key elements that are responsible for the quality of Colombian coffee is its harvesting method, in which it is enforced that only mature fruits are harvested. Given the terrain conditions in which coffee trees grow, the preferred harvesting method in Colombia is selective hand picking, in which each coffee grain is individually teared off from the branch that is attached to. The origins of the concept of benchmarking show us the reason for its popularity primarily under the pressures of rapid internationalization in a wider context. The international competitiveness, the ‘movement’ for qualities, and the rapid growth of information technology, which has made sophisticated data collection possible, were usually identified as main economic and social impacts on the practice’s implementation. Even the main key activities of the European Network for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) are training and advisory support, this paper aim is to analyze the network

Direct-contact heat exchanger involves the exchange of heat between two immiscible fluids at different temperatures. Considering that there is a linear relationship between the flow patterns of a bubble swarm and heat transfer coefficient, it is inevitably to investigate the evolution of flow patterns for heat transfer enhancement in different mixing systems. However, the dynamical complexity and random variability of multiphase flow have put forward a severe challenge to improve the accuracy and real-time performance of visualized measurement of multiphase flow. Abstract:
In the continuous strip casting process a meniscus forms a compliant boundary between the casting nozzle and transporting conveyor. Movement of this meniscus during casting has been shown to create surface defects, which require extensive cold work to remove and limit the minimum thickness for which sections may be cast. This paper discusses experimental work conducted to test an analytical model of the meniscus oscillation. A high frame rate shadowgraph technique was used on an isothermal water model of the casting process to observe meniscus motion, and thus allowing the calculation of menis

This study considers airflow simulations to evaluate the impact of different window air-conditioner locations on the thermal comfort in an office rooms (OR). This paper compares the air distribution for an office room by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. The air distribution was modeled for a typical office room window air conditioning unit, air supply from a high pressure on the top and the low pressure exhaust on the bottom considering the existing manufacturing ratios for surface areas. Calculations were done for steady-state conditions including an occupant and a light sou
