Abstract:
The Google Chrome browser, widely available on computers today, has a variety of free and low-cost apps and extensions that can benefit all students in inclusive classroom settings. Using apps and extensions readily available for the Google Chrome browser, teachers have access to assistive tools that can be useful learning supports for students with and without disabilities. There are apps and extensions available to support literacy, mathematics, and organizational skills. Using these tools, teachers can provide multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement in alignment with Universal Design for Learning guidelines. This article describes how Chrome apps and extensions can be used to support literacy, mathematics, organization, and planning in inclusive settings.

Abstract:
Clinical trials are critically important for the development of new cancer treatments. According to recent estimates, however, clinical trial enrollment is only about 8%. Lack of patient understanding or awareness of clinical trials is one reason for the low rate of participation. The purpose of this observational study was to evaluate the readability of cancer clinical trial websites designed to educate the general public and patients about clinical trials. Nearly 90% of Americans use Google to search for health-related information. We conducted a Google Chrome Incognito search in 2018 using the keywords “cancer clinical trial” and “cancer clinical trials.” Content of the 100 cancer clinical trial websites was analyzed using an online readability panel consisting of Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level, Flesch Reading Ease, Gunning-Fog Index, Coleman-Liau Index, and Simple Measure of Gobbledygook scales. Reading level difficulty was assessed and compared between commercial versus non-commercial URL extensions. Content readability was found to be “difficult” (10.7 grade level). No significant difference in readability, overall, and between commercial and non-commercial URL extensions was found using 4/5 measures of readability; 90.9% of commercial versus 49.4% of non-commercial websites were written at a >10th grade ( P = .013) using Gunning-Fog Index. Written cancer clinical trials content on the Internet is written at a reading level beyond the literacy capabilities of the average American reader. Improving readability to accommodate readers with basic literacy skills will provide an opportunity for greater comprehension that could potentially result in higher rates of clinical trial enrollment.

Este artículo traza una breve genealogía de escritoras británicas negras y asiáticas que utilizaron su voz para inscribir sus experiencias y reivindicar la necesidad de examinar las intersecciones entre las categorías de raza y género.</p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>The last years of the 80’s witnessed the consolidation of Black British and Asian British feminisms that have had their origins in the struggles and activism of Black and Asian women immigrants and the emergence of creative writing groups. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>Porque las teorías postcoloniales carecen de perspectiva de género, el presente artículo se centra en la aproximación metodológica que proponen los feminismos postcoloniales, mediante una de sus mayores representantes, Spivak, para el análisis de la otredad femenina de un género narrativo con unas características concretas: colonial, de contexto árabe-islámico y escrito por mujeres. Las siguientes páginas están interesadas, en primer lugar, en subrayar que las mujeres también son forjadoras de discursos coloniales, aunque éstos sean, en su mayoría, cómplices del poder hegemónico. Y, en segundo lugar, denunciar que la narrativa colonial, redu ccionista y amante de las grandes generalizaciones, ofrece una otredad confinada en una masa femenina uniforme en vez de perseguir una representación más integradora de mujeres plurales y diversas.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Because postcolonial theories lack a gender perspective, this article focuses on the methodological approach proposed by postcolonial feminisms, through one of its greatest representatives, Spivak, for the analysis of female otherness of a narrative genre with specific characteristics: colonial, from an Arab-Islamic context and written by women. The following pages are interested, first, to underline that women are also creators of colonial discourse although these are mostly accomplices of hegemonic power. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>Con el propósito de identificar las regularidades en los estereotipos, los prejuicios y las formas de discriminación, asociados a la mujer en el contexto laboral latinoamericano, se analizaron treinta estudios empíricos en países de Latinoamérica y publicados en revistas adscritas a las bases Redalyc y Psicodoc correspondientes al período de 2005 a 2015. Para el análisis se diseñó una matriz con las siguientes categorías: título, autores/as, año, país, variables, objetivos, tipo de investigación, instrumentos y resultados. La información se sometió a un análisis descriptivo y se concluyó que, pese a que se ha generado una cultura de inclusión de la mujer en las organizaciones, persisten los prejuicios, estereotipos y conductas discriminatorias.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>To identify symmetries in stereotypes, prejudices and forms of discrimination associated with women labor in the Latin American context, thirty empirical studies were analyzed. Those studies were published from 2005 to 2015 at journals contained in Redalyc and Psicodoc academic data-bases. To identify the symmetries, we elaborated a matrix which contained the following categories: title, author, year, country, variables, objectives, type of research, instruments, and results. Este artículo tiene como objetivo evidenciar cómo la “La Marcha de las Putas” en Manizales ha sido una insolente, creativa y experimental práctica colectiva de resistencia que cumple, a partir de la transgresión, el papel de desentrañar las violencias ejercidas por el patriarcado a través de sus perversas categorizaciones. La Puta como locus de lucha de política es entonces una estratégica, paródica y postidentitaria categoría de resistencia.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract </strong></p><p>The discursive construction of women as "witches" or "sluts" has been one of the many ways that they have historically been sex-politically oppressed and controlled. This article has as objective to show how the Slutwalk in Manizales has been configured as a creative and experimental collective practice of resistance. From transgression, it fulfills the role of unraveling the patriarchy violence through their perverse categorizations upon women. Uno de los ámbitos privilegiados y especialmente importantes desde donde se puede y debe prevenir es la educación. Disponemos de un buen marco conceptual para comprender la complejidad del fenómeno, de datos que indican la gravedad y magnitud del problema y de una normativa de obligado cumplimiento en todos los niveles educativos, porque la igualdad también se aprende y, a pesar de los importantes retos que tiene planteados, la coeducación deviene necesaria para poder erradicar la violencia machista.</p><p><strong><br /></strong></p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Violence against women is a universal and historical phenomenon that affects women and girls from all social classes, the greatest expression of inequality between women and men. One of the privileged and most important areas from which it can and must be prevent is education. Su discurso es, además, un ataque directo a las concepciones más tradicionales del feminismo occidental y sus representaciones a menudo estereotipadas de las musulmanas.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Islamic feminisms were born in the 90’s and since then they have been subject to criticism by those who believe that it is not possible to fight for women's rights in the framework of a religion. Nos propusimos crear y dinamizar una Colectiva como estrategia de participación universitaria sociocultural que sostuviera una complementariedad dinámica tanto epistemológica como metodológica. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>El artículo presenta los resultados de una investigación que tuvo como objetivo analizar los procesos socio-cognitivos del lenguaje ideológicamente patriarcal en la representación de la muerte de mujeres, a través del uso de los recursos micro y macro discursivos e icónicos del periódico. Para lo cual se analizó un diario de circulación local de Chilpancingo, Guerrero, México, con el método de la hermenéutica profunda y el análisis del discurso periodístico. Los resultados nos permiten concluir que en la elaboración de la información operan mecanismos lingüísticos que refuerzan y jerarquizan los roles de género, re-victimizan a las mujeres, normalizan la violencia de género por lo que no contribuyen a contextualizarla en su justa dimensión.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstrac</strong></p><p>The article presents the results of an investigation that had as objective to analyze the socio-cognitive processes of the ideologically patriarchal language in the representation of the death of women, using micro and macro discursive and iconic resources of the newspaper. For that, a local circulation newspaper from Chilpancingo, Guerrero, Mexico, was analyzed using the method of deep hermeneutics and the analysis of journalistic discourse. The article describes the investigation process of the possibilities of XSS–attacks, and the development of counteraction means to these attacks. Researches were determined whether XSS–attack can be fulfilled successfully, and vulnerability detection methods can be applied; were developed the logical and structural diagrams of XSS–vulnerability detection program; were realized program implementation (software) of algorithms for detecting XSS–vulnerabilities on the Web – sites. The software implementation is Web extension for the Google Chrome browser. Main purpose of implementing this software is to confirm or deny the presence of XSS–vulnerabilities on the site, and to counteract the possible attack.

<p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>Varios estudios apuntan hacia la reproducción de la desigualdad por territorio, clase y género, destacando la discriminación femenina en el pasado, especialmente en Portugal, con altas tasas de analfabetismo, sobre todo durante <em>el Estado Novo. </em>Las prioridades de la política educativa desde 1974 han producido una reducción de las disparidades educativas. En este texto, se exponen algunos resultados de un proyecto de investigación, en el que se comprueba la hipótesis de trabajo de que cuanto mejor provistas de recursos están las famílias más cualificados son los individuos y cuanto menos equipadas y con más edad menos cualificados son, así como cuanto más jovenes más cualificados son. Más, se verifica entre las mujeres una más intensa movilidad educativa, aunque no profesional, que entre los hombres.</p><p><strong><br /></strong></p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Several studies sustain the thesis of reproduction of inequalites by territory, class and gender, highlighting female discrimination in the past, namely in Portugal, with high rates of illiteracy, specially during the <em>Estado Novo </em>of Salazar dictatorship. The priorities of education policies since 1974 have produced a reduction of educational disparities. In this text, I will give account of some results of a research project, in which is verified that the working hypothesis that the more well-resourced are the families more qualified the individuals are and the less well-resourced and older less qualified they are, as well as younger people are more qualified. Si la práctica de la co-maternidad aparece en ciertos discursos como garante de la solidaridad entre las mujeres, otros factores como la raza, la clase o las puras circunstancias individuales, modulan nuestras vidas como mujeres, trabajadoras y madres. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>Este artículo busca mostrar los efectos de la incursión del Estado chileno en la lucha contra las violencias hacia las mujeres en el ámbito doméstico. Para esto acudimos a dispositivos legales y políticos. Se mostrará el rol de las instituciones de justicia y del Servicio Nacional de la Mujer (SERNAM) en tanto que instrumentos de atención y protección a las personas afectadas por la problemática, durante los gobiernos de Michelle Bachelet (2006-2010) y de Sebastián Piñera (2010-2014). Durante el desarrollo del análisis, se caracterizará cómo entra en tensión el enfoque familiarista de la ley con los dispositivos propuestos por el Estado. Avanzando que el género como categoría crítica si bien es invisibilizado, de igual modo aparece como ordenador de relaciones de poder y dominación. Lo anterior ocurre tanto en la construcción de la legislación, como en la intervención de la problemática en niveles locales.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This article seeks to show the effects of the incursion of Chilean State in the struggle against violence towards women in the domestic sphere. For this, we focus on political and legal devices. We will show the role of the Courts of Justice and National Women’s Service (SERNAM) as instruments of attention and protection for the people affected by the issue, during the latest governments of Michelle Bachelet (2006 – 2010) and Sebastian Piñera (2010-2014). <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>En el presente artículo nos proponemos analizar desde una perspectiva de género la relación entre las maternidades en parejas lesbianas y las nuevas tecnologías reproductivas (NTR); y explorar el vínculo entre ambas en relación a la dicotomía naturaleza-cultura y sexo-género. A partir de estos dos ejes de análisis reflexionamos sobre las posibles situaciones y dilemas de parejas lesbianas que deciden ser madres y llevar a cabo su proyecto parental, a través de un tratamiento con NTR. Se trata de un análisis teórico-político en el cual partimos de definir y problematizar la categoría de género como principal instancia de estudio, para luego desarrollar los ejes propuestos en torno a la problemática planteada.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>In the present article, we analyze, from a gender perspective, the relationship between maternity in lesbian couples and the new reproductive technologies (NRT); and explore the link between both in relation to the nature-culture and sex-gender dichotomy. From these two axes of analysis, we reflect on the possible situations and dilemmas of lesbian couples who decide to be mothers and carry out their parental project, through a treatment with NTR. Escogiendo Bankside como punto de partida, para dicha investigación se han analizado diferentes emplazamientos como Crossbones Graveyard –antiguo cementerio donde se encuentran enterradas muchas de las mujeres que ejercieron la prostitución en el Distrito entre los siglos XII y XVII–. Desde su descubrimiento en la década de los 90 se han llevado a cabo numerosas acciones gracias a las cuales se ha conseguido no sólo su conservación, sino difundir la verdadera historia de las “Winchester Geese”.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This paper is part of the research <em>Five senses of London Cultural District</em>, which is part of the Excellence Project 2016-2018 <em>Cultural Districts: images and imaginaries in </em><em>the processes of revitalization of urban spaces</em>. Choosing Bankside as a starting point, for this research different sites have been analysed such as Crossbones Graveyard –which is an old graveyard where many of the women who practiced prostitution in the District between the twelfth and seventeenth centuries were buried. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>Ni el género ni la sexualidad se dejan encorsetar dentro de unas normas que informan cómo deben ser y actuar hombres y mujeres para ser reconocidos socialmente como normales. Tanto el género como el sexo son susceptibles de desbordamiento de dichos encuadres rígidos, porque tal desbordamiento responde a lo real vivenciado por cualquier hombre o mujer. Las normas son un constructo artificial que no responde a la auténtica identidad genérica y sexual de cada sujeto, que es mucho más compleja que el reduccionismo monolítico que quiere demarcar la diferencia entre masculino y femenino. Dicha separación tan tajante no puede explicar la coexistencia de ambas características en un mismo sujeto ni las pretensiones de los transgéneros de ser considerados con una identidad que desmiente su sexo biológico, ni la angustia de los transexuales convencidos de estar atrapados en un cuerpo equivocado.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong><strong><br /> </strong>Neither gender nor sexuality is allowed to be curtailed within norms that inform how men and women should be and act to be socially recognized as normal. Both gender and sex are susceptible to overflowing of such rigid frames, because such an overflow responds to the real thing experienced by any man or woman. Norms are an artificial construct that does not respond to the authentic generic and sexual identity of each subject, which is much more complex than the monolithic reductionism that wants to demarcate the difference between male and female. A partir del año 2005, atravesó una reforma que jerarquizó su rol en las políticas de Estado y gestó un nuevo modelo de adjudicación de tierras: las experiencias asociativas. Ese mismo año, el nuevo gobierno impulsó la transversalización de género en el Estado, impulso que anclara en el INC a partir del 2013. Este artículo analiza desde una perspectiva de género la reforma refundacional y la nueva política de tierras, develando la ceguera de género de la reforma y evidenciando desafíos pendientes para la transversalización de género en el diseño de la principal modalidad de adjudicación de tierras públicas. </p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p><strong></strong>In Uruguay, the National Institute of Colonization is the institution resposible for the adjudication of land by the State, aimed at the rational distribution of land and its access by the most vulnerable rural population. Since 2005, the INC went through a reform that prioritized its role in the policies of the State and created a new model of land adjudication: associative experiences of colonization. Abstract:
This article presents a cloud-based framework that thwarts the DOM-based XSS vulnerabilities caused due to the injection of advanced HTML5 attack vectors in the HTML5 web applications. Initially, the framework collects the key modules of web application, extracts the suspicious HTML5 strings from the latent injection points and performs the clustering on such strings based on their level of similarity. Further, it detects the injection of malicious HTML5 code in the script nodes of DOM tree by detecting the variation in the HTML5 code embedded in the HTTP response generated. Any variation observed will simply indicate the injection of suspicious script code. The prototype of our framework was developed in Java and installed in the virtual machines of cloud environment on the Google Chrome extension. The experimental evaluation of our framework was performed on the platform of real world HTML5 web applications deployed in the cloud platform.

Abstract With the aim of increasing online privacy, we present a novel, machine-learning based approach to blocking one of the three main ways website visitors are tracked online—canvas fingerprinting. Because the act of canvas fingerprinting uses, at its core, a JavaScript program, and because many of these programs are reused across the web, we are able to fit several machine learning models around a semantic representation of a potentially offending program, achieving accurate and robust classifiers. Our supervised learning approach is trained on a dataset we created by scraping roughly half a million websites using a custom Google Chrome extension storing information related to the canvas. Classification leverages our key insight that the images drawn by canvas fingerprinting programs have a facially distinct appearance, allowing us to manually classify files based on the images drawn; we take this approach one step further and train our classifiers not on the malleable images themselves, but on the more-difficult-to-change, underlying source code generating the images. As a result, ML-CB allows for more accurate tracker blocking.

The availability of multiple (mobile) electronic payment systems ((M)EPS) has led to the development of web browser payment interfaces that support various payment systems, facilitate the transaction, the choice of the payment system, and perform the payment. However, so far, no in-depth study on user satisfaction determinants with these interfaces has been conducted. Our work aims to cope with this issue. Thus, based on the analysis of payment literature and Google Chrome web browser (GCWB) payment interface, we propose a new web browser payment interface that considers users’ preferences to support multiple payment systems. Furthermore, we have developed a theoretical model to determine users’ preferences to support multiple payment systems. Our model is based on the extension of technology acceptance models. Finally, we evaluated both the theoretical and proposed payment interface through a survey research approach (n = 266); data were collected, and the hypotheses were tested via statistical analysis (chi-square test, regression coefficients). Our experimental results revealed that our proposed interface is accepted, easy to use, and satisfies users’ needs. The key factors for accepting a new web browser payment interface are ease of use, usefulness, security, confidentiality, privacy, payment method preferences, visual interface design, and credibility.

In theory, mainstreaming should cut across all different levels -from policies to programs-, but practice has shown that the model tends to be both dual and disjointed, focusing on strategic frameworks on the one hand and the implementation of specific actions on the other. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>Varios estudios de género se ocuparon de las representaciones simbólicas de la mujer en los medios, es decir, la mujer como objeto de los contenidos mediáticos, pero son menos los que analizan su rol como productora de contenidos informativos. Dos investigaciones globales sobre periodismo ofrecen datos para describir las condiciones profesionales de las periodistas en Argentina. La contextualización con estudios similares realizados en otros países permite elaborar un perfil actualizado de las mujeres en la prensa argentina y revisar cuestiones teóricas y metodológicas de los estudios de periodismo que puedan aportar precisiones conceptuales a la discusión que vienen dando los estudios de género sobre este tema.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Gender media researches have focused on women’s symbolic representation in the media, that is to say, women as object of media contents. In some cases, the research looks for data about participation of women as news producer. Data from global journalism studies describe professional conditions of women journalists in Argentina. These results will allow comparisons among several countries in order to elaborate an accurate profile of women in argentine press. <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>El presente artículo propone una reflexión sobre las prácticas de coacción y exclusión que implementa la necropolítica del modelo neoliberal, a través del análisis de dos novelas de la escritora chilena Diamela Eltit: <em>Mano de obra</em> (2002) e <em>Impuesto a la carne</em> (2010). La dictadura del mercado ha exacerbado los mecanismos de control sobre los cuerpos y la feminización de la pobreza demuestra que son las mujeres quienes más sufren la exclusión y opresión de una regulación determinada por la acumulación capitalista. Sin embargo, en ambas novelas son los personajes femeninos quienes van a operar como potenciales agentes de cambio, generando pequeños “lugares de desacato” o esferas minoritarias de resistencia que desafiarán la lógica utilitaria y el dominio global del capital.</p><p><strong><br /></strong></p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>This article reflects on coercion and exclusion practices that implement the necropolitics of the neoliberal model, through the analysis of the two novels by the Chilean author Diamela Eltit, <em>Mano de obra</em> (2002) and <em>Impuesto a la carne</em> (2010). The dictatorship of the market has exacerbated the mechanisms of control over the bodies and the feminization of poverty shows that women are the ones who suffer the most from the exclusion and oppression of a regulation determined by capitalist accumulation. However, in both novels, female characters operate as potential agents of change, generating small "places of contempt" or minority spheres of resistance that will challenge the utilitarian logic and <p><strong>Resumen</strong></p><p>La escritora mejicana Rosario Castellanos (1925-1974) ansiaba otro modo de ser mujer y libre en la sociedad en la que le tocó vivir, convirtiéndose este deseo en el <em>leitmotiv</em> de su obra. En cuanto al amor, se dice que Castellanos estaba convencida de que no podría vivir sin que su marido la amara tanto como ella a él, tal y como ella misma parece indicar en <em>Cartas a Ricardo</em> (1994). La autora concluye uno de sus poemas más conocidos, “Meditación en el umbral”, con versos que incitan a la búsqueda de otros modos de ser, siendo mi propósito el de redireccionar ese registro a otros modos de amar. Para ello recurriré a la teoría postestructural de Luce Irigaray, quien hace que nos cuestionemos, al igual que hiciera Castellanos, nuestra identidad, pero que, a diferencia de la escritora mejicana, huye de buscar una respuesta definitoria y, en lo referente al amor, profundiza en la búsqueda de una cultura que modifique la condición de las relaciones amorosas. Y es que otros modos de ser y de amar son posibles.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>Mexican writer Rosario Castellanos knew that other ways of being a woman and a free subject were possible, and it was this very desire that became the <em>leitmotiv</em> of her work. Regarding love, it has been said that Castellanos was convinced that it was impossible for her to live without the love of her husband, as she seems to underline in <em>Cartas a Ricardo</em> (1994). She concludes one of her well-known poems, “Meditación en el umbral”, with lines that encourage us to claim new ways of being. It is my purpose to redirect this aim towards new ways of loving within a romantic relationship. To do so I will use Luce Irigaray’s poststructuralist theoretical framework on love. This critic makes us question, as Castellanos did, our identity, but differs from the Mexican writer in trying to find an answer and, regarding love, deeply encourages us to deconstruct a culture RESUMO: Este artigo apresenta e discute as premissas e desafios na construção de um painel online de utilizadores da Internet, com foco na experiência pioneira do Living Lab on Media Content and Platforms (LLMCP). Ao longo de 2018, o LLMCP desenvolveu uma extensão do GoogleChrome capaz de monitorizar, em tempo real, a navegação dos utilizadores da Internetatravés deste browser – o mais difundido entre os portugueses. Para poder iniciar a recolha de informação empírica, através de um painel online de utilizadores da Internet, o projeto adotou um conjunto de procedimentos teóricos, metodológicos e operativos no desenvolvimento tanto da ferramenta de monitorização quanto na captação de utilizadores disponíveis para a inscrição no painel. A ampla disseminação de tecnologias de informação e comunicação (TIC) tem vindo a modificar a forma como as pessoas vivem em sociedade e como organizam as suas relações sociais. Compreender a sociedade de informação passa pela criação de tecnologias e procedimentos para investigar essas novas formas de organização e estruturação dos comportamentos dos indivíduos. Para além do estudo de caso do LLMCP, este artigo problematiza brevemente o impacto dos métodos assentes na inquirição, como a entrevista e o questionário, na pesquisa dos comportamentos online. Os resultados apontam para duas linhas de raciocínio. Por um lado, para a ideia de que a adoção em massa de TIC tem vindo a contribuir para a criação de novas oportunidades, no domínio dos métodos de investigação em ciências sociais e humanas. Por outro lado, para a ideia de que as abordagens inovadoras necessitam de enfrentar os receios relacionados com a vigilância e o controlo, que afligem as sociedades hiperconectadas.

 ABSTRACT: This paper presents and discusses the assumptions and challenges for developing an online panel of Internet users, focusing on the pioneering experience of the Living Lab on Media Content and Platforms (LLMCP). Throughout 2018, LLMCP developed a Google Chrome extension able to monitor, in real-time, the navigation of Internet users through this browser - the most widely used by the Portuguese. In order to initiate the collection of empirical information through an online panel of Internet users, the project adopted a set of theoretical, methodological and operational procedures in the development of both the monitoring tool and to attract participants. The dissemination of information and communication technologies (ICT) has been changing the way people live in society and how they organize their social relationships. Understanding that the information society involves the creation of technologies and procedures to investigate these new forms of organization and structuring of individuals' behaviors. In addition to the LLMCP case study, this article briefly discusses the impact of inquiry methods, such as interview and questionnaire, on online behavioral research. The results point two lines of reasoning. On the one hand, to the idea that mass adoption of ICT has contributed to the creation of new opportunities in the field of research methods in the social and human sciences. On the other hand, innovative approaches still need to overcome surveillance and control fears existing in hyper connected societies.

Abstract:
The article describes the technology for automation of work with sources of information on the Internet. The created technology includes a development of a web service for storing and processing data; creation of a client part for viewing, editing and deleting records from the service; development of a browser extension for instant addition of articles to a web service database. Addition of records to the service is implemented by the development of an extension to Google Chrome browser. Creation of an extension involves getting information about the author of the article, the title of the article, addresses, key expressions, and highlighted text. Regular expressions and recursive search are used to obtain information about the author of the text. The article offers algorithms for finding the name of a literary source and its author. In order to allow the web service to interact with other services or programs, a REST service was developed in the article. A graphical user interface to display and edit records was developed for the web service using the AngularJS JavaScript framework. For the client part, a mechanism of an on request citations search and a mechanism of reference list formation for the selected citations is proposed. For the on request citations search, the article suggests the algorithm of citations ranking. Appropriate plugins for Google Chrome have been developed, which allow to connect content levels, background, and pop-up with each other. Functions for authorization, receiving a token, information search launch, search for an author, and a bibliographic record creation have been created.

AbstractTerms of Service (ToS) are fundamental factors in the creation of physical as well as online legally relevant relationships. They not only define mutual rights and obligations but also inform users about contract key issues that, in online settings, span from liability limitations to data management and processing conditions. Despite their crucial role, however, ToS are often neglected by users that frequently accept without even reading what they agree upon, representing a critical issue when there exist potentially unfair clauses. To enhance users’ awareness and uphold legal safeguards, we first propose a definition of ToS unfairness based on a novel unfairness measure computed counting the unfair clauses contained in a ToS, and therefore, weighted according to their direct impact on the customers concrete interests. Secondly, we introduce a novel machine learning-based approach to classify ToS clauses, represented by using sentence embedding, in different categories classes and fairness levels. Results of a test involving well-known machine learning models show that Support Vector Machine is able to classify clauses into categories with a F1-score of 86% outperforming state-of-the-art methods, while Random Forest is able to classify clauses into fairness levels with a F1-score of 81%. With the final goal of making terms of service more readable and understandable, we embedded this approach into ToSware, a prototype of a Google Chrome extension. An evaluation study was performed to measure ToSware effectiveness, efficiency, and the overall users’ satisfaction when interacting with it.

During the last years, the increasing number of DNA sequencing and protein mutagenesis studies has generated a large amount of variation data published in the biomedical literature. The collection of such data has been essential for the development and assessment of tools predicting the impact of protein variants at functional and structural levels. Nevertheless, the collection of manually curated data from literature is a highly time consuming and costly process that requires domain experts. In particular, the development of methods for predicting the effect of amino acid variants on protein stability relies on the thermodynamic data extracted from literature. In the past, such data were deposited in the ProTherm database, which however is no longer maintained since 2013. For facilitating the collection of protein thermodynamic data from literature, we developed the semi-automatic tool ThermoScan. ThermoScan is a text mining approach for the identification of relevant thermodynamic data on protein stability from full-text articles. The method relies on a regular expression searching for groups of words, including the most common conceptual words appearing in experimental studies on protein stability, several thermodynamic variables, and their units of measure. ThermoScan analyzes full-text articles from the PubMed Central Open Access subset and calculates an empiric score that allows the identification of manuscripts reporting thermodynamic data on protein stability. The method was optimized on a set of publications included in the ProTherm database, and tested on a new curated set of articles, manually selected for presence of thermodynamic data. The results show that ThermoScan returns accurate predictions and outperforms recently developed text-mining algorithms based on the analysis of publication abstracts.Availability: The ThermoScan server is freely accessible online at https://folding.biofold.org/thermoscan.
