Abstract:

This article explores cultural constructions of hockey, violence, and masculinity through a close examination of one of the game’s most successful and prominent players in the postwar period, Gordie Howe. By combining skill and scoring ability with toughness, physicality, and a willingness to fight when necessary, Howe epitomized many qualities of the ideal hockey player over the course of his lengthy professional career, which extended from 1946 to 1980. In particular, this study focuses on media coverage of Howe’s highly publicized fight against Lou Fontinato of the New York Rangers on February 1, 1959. Using Canadian and American newspapers and magazines as the primary research base, we analyze media representations of Gordie Howe in the context of ideals and anxieties related to North American masculinity following the Second World War. Historians have identified this period as a time when Canadian and American manhood was perceived to be in decline. We argue that Howe demonstrated a combination of controlled violence and humble manliness suggested by his early nickname in the Detroit press, the “Bashful Basher.” Howe’s rational and expert application of violence – especially in contrast to the emotional Fontinato – firmly established his masculine credentials within the culture of hockey, while positioning him more widely as a “modern” yet rugged role model for masculine renewal in postwar Canada. Howe’s example of gentlemanly masculinity normalized and celebrated a culture of fighting in hockey while establishing a standard of conduct for superstar players that persists to the present day. At the same time, cultural constructions of Howe’s manhood contributed to the entrenchment of a dominant version of heroic, white, heteronormative hockey masculinity in Canadian life.

Abstract:

Transportation infrastructure decisions contribute to social, economic, and health inequities in the U.S. Health Impact Assessments (HIAs) may improve understanding of potential strategies to mitigate adverse effects on quality of life from planned developments. We use the Gordie Howe International Bridge (GHIB), currently under construction in southwest Detroit, MI, as a case study to examine 15 years of community mobilization, which resulted in community benefits that included an HIA. We describe community engagement processes, household survey methods, and select findings of the baseline HIA, with a focus on their application to inform recommendations to promote quality of life. Baseline HIA results indicated significantly higher self-reported asthma rates among children living within 500 feet of trucking routes. Residents reported substantial economic (e.g., decreased home values), health (e.g., adverse outcomes, lack of health care access), and environmental (e.g., air pollution) concerns related to the GHIB. We discuss specific recommendations, based on HIA results, to reduce adverse impacts of the GHIB. These recommendations will inform ongoing community benefits negotiations. This case study provides lessons for community, academic, and government partners conducting HIAs, especially during building and operation of major infrastructure, and discusses their potential role in improving community engagement opportunities towards environmental justice.

Transportasi memegang peranan penting dalam mendukung pergerakan orang dan barang. Diiringi dengan perkembangan teknologi berupa internet, Gojek telah memadukan internet dan transportasi sehingga berhasil menghadirkan layanan ojek online. Kualitas layanan yang diberikan oleh perusahaan akan menciptakan nilai yang akan dirasakan oleh pelanggan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan persepsi pelanggan terhadap layanan GoRide, dan faktor-faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi perbedaan konsumen dalam layanan GoRide. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dan pengambilan sampel secara acak. Data dianalisis dengan analisis diskriminan. Hasil Penelitian menemukan terdapat perbedaan (nyata) persepsi pelanggan yang signifikan terhadap kualitas layanan Gojek (GoRide). Variabel yang membedakan adalah keselamatan, ketepatan waktu pengiriman, kepercayaan dan keamanan.

Abstract:

Consumer loyalty is an indication of the performance appraisal of the management of a company or business actor. This also applies to business actors who use internet technology as their marketing base. The proliferation of businesses that use the internet as a marketing method has also penetrated the transportation business. One of these online transportation service companies is Gojek, where GoRide is one type of service. The problem faced by GoRide is that there are several complaints from consumers that must be considered because it will affect the sustainability of using the product and of course it becomes a tendency for customers to be loyal to a certain object. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the variables of trust, consumer satisfaction and promotion on GoRide consumer loyalty in Semarang municipality. The sampling technique used purposive sampling method. The analytical tool used is multiple linear regression. The results obtained are the variables of trust, customer satisfaction and promotion have a positive and significant effect on consumer loyalty GoRide in Semarang Municipality.

Abstract:

Go-Jek is an online-based transportation service provider that uses an accounting information system. Physical distancing is applied to reduce the spread of the coronavirus by the government which has an impact on the transportation sector. The purpose of this study was to analyze the income of Go-Jek company online drivers in the city of Salatiga during the COVID-19 pandemic with two main services during the pandemic, GoRide and GoFood. This study involved 20 Go-Jek drivers who were interviewed, 10 drivers for GoRide services and 10 drivers for GoFood services. The results showed that even though the COVID-19 pandemic caused a decrease in income for drivers, GoRide service drivers did not experience a significant decrease compared to GoFood service drivers.

Abstract:

AbstractThis article introduces and discusses a short correspondence that took place in November 1931 between Gershom Scholem and Jacob Gordin. Gordin was a Russian-Jewish philosopher of religion, an expert on Hermann Cohen, and a founding figure of the postwar Paris School of Jewish Thought. The initial motivation for the correspondence was Scholem’s wish to produce a critical edition of the 17th century kabbalistic work, Shaar Hashamayim by Abraham Cohen Herrera, for which he asked for Gordin’s help. A close reading of Gordin’s response to Scholem and Scholem’s belated response to Gordin highlight the respective views of these thinkers regarding the relationship between kabbalah and Western philosophy in the modern era, and in German idealism in particular. The article is followed by a translation of the correspondence.

Abstract:

This article offers an English translation of an essay published in 1946 by Jacob Gordin (1896–1947), a Russian-Jewish philosopher of religion, who is considered the founding figure of the postwar Paris School of Jewish Thought (École de pensée juive de Paris). In “The Religious Crisis in Jewish Thought”, Gordin presented a sweeping meta-narrative of the history of Jewish thought, formulated as a history of repeated “religious crises”, both existential and intellectual. In Gordin’s condensed narrative, these crises could be detected in the life and philosophy of the most canonical Jewish thinkers inside and outside the tradition: from Abraham the biblical patriarch to Hermann Cohen, through a diverse list including the rabbinical sage Elisha Ben-Abuyah, Philo, Halevi, Maimonides, and Spinoza. In an introduction to Gordin’s text, I provide a brief biography, locate Gordin in existentialist discourse of the early postwar years, and discuss the affinities between Gordin’s “The Religious Crisis” and Levinas’s and Sartre’s early reflections on the Jewish question.

Abstract:

The Gornje Polimlje has all characteristics of the geographical region, which some of the areas, or just part of them, left many author's works of impassable value. The northeastern part of Montenegro possesses, in qualitative and quantitative aspects, an enormous wealth of natural values. It was unexpectedly and unacceptably economically neglected in the last fifty years in Montenegro's development. The paper aims to present the natural resources of the Gornje Polimlje region and the way of their valorization in the function of equal development of this region. Tourism is seen as an activity that would produce great economic results with the least negative impact on nature. The conclusion is that natural resources are either underutilized or utilized in the wrong way. Further development should be based on the exploitation of natural resources, first of all on the development of sustainable tourism and the use of renewable energy sources.

Heth gordae n. sp., H. xarochae n. sp. and H. tuxtlensis n. sp. from the intestine of spiroboloids from Mexico are described herein. Females of H. gordae n. sp. and H. xarochae n. sp. can be differentiated from all other described species of Heth from the Americas by the presence of two sets of lateral spines with multiple cusps with a common broad base arranged in a semilunar shape pattern. Heth gordae n. sp. exhibits a narrower pattern that resembles more a comb-like structure, whereas H. xarochae n. sp. exhibits a broader pattern. Both aforementioned species resemble H. hexaspinosum from Panamá, but the latter possesses fewer spines without a common base. Lateral spines with multiple cusps have never been previously described in the genus Heth. Females of H. tuxtlensis n. sp. resemble Asian collar lappet-species but differ from them in possessing a complete uninterrupted collar with indented single lateral lappets. Specific characters described herein set these species apart from the Caribbean Heth species, most South American, and those previously described from Mexico. The present descriptions increase the number of Heth species recorded from Mexico from three to six.

Abstract:

Cation-exchanged Sr-form of gordaite was successfully obtained from Ca-form of gordaite by an ion-exchange reaction. Data of XRD, SEM-EDS and DTA-TG-MS were used to characterize the Sr-form. Thermal decomposition of Sr-gordaite was studied for the first time in regards of thermal events and mass loss during volatile releasing. It was found similarity with Sr-gordaite and Ca-gordaite in terms of processes, type, and amount of volatiles released, but also some differences were found concerning the temperature correspondence of the volatiles evolving and the type of thermal decomposition products. The influence of the exchangeable cations (Na, Ca, or Sr) on the dehydration of the interlayer in the gordaite type structure were also established.

Jendela dan gorden merupakan suatu interior rumah yang berfungsi sebagai sirkulasi udara, ruang pemberi intensitas cahaya dan sebagainya. Pembukaan dan penutupan jendela dan gorden biasanya masih dilakukan oleh manusia secara manual. Terkadang manusia tidak dapat sepenuhnya mengawasi lingkungan apabila terjadi hujan atau malam hari tiba, jendela dan gorden masih dalam keadaan terbuka. Untuk itu maka diperlukan perancangan otomatis dan manual dimana pada perancangan otomatis yang dapat menutup, membuka jendela dan gorden sesuai dengan kondisi cuaca, maupun perubahan suhu di dalam ruangan. Sedangkan pada manual menutup, membuka jendela dan gorden dapat di kontrol melalui smatrphone maupun dapat dibuka secara langsung menggunakan keypad. Penelitian ini membahas tentang pengontrolan jendela dan gorden berdasarkan suhu ruangan, perubahan intesitas cahaya dan perubahan cuaca. Pengendali yang dipakai adalah Arduino Mega 2560 dengan Wifi Built-in-ESP 8266 sebagai pengendali sistem.

Abstract:

The typical species of Parks' stromatoporoid genus Stictostroma designated as Stromatopora mammillata Nicholson, 1873, and renamed S. mamilliferum to avoid homonymy by Galloway and St. Jean (1957), had unknown internal structure because Nicholson's type specimens were not sectioned. Parks' (1936) diagnosis of generic characters was based on specimens from a location (Gorrie) far from the type locality of S. mammillata that he assumed were conspecific with Nicholson's species. Investigation of the type specimens of Stromatopora mammillata = Stictostroma mamilliferum by thin sections shows that they are very poorly preserved and not conspecific with the specimens on which Parks based the genus. Because paleontologists for many years have used Stictostroma as amended from Parks' description by Galloway and St. Jean, the species from Gorrie that clearly shows these characters should be recognized as the typical species and given a new name.

Using Blanchfield pairings, we show that two Alexander polynomials cannot be realized by a pair of matrices with algebraic Gordian distance one if a corresponding quadratic equation does not have an integer solution. The article analyzes the evolution of the philosophical views of the pananarchism-theorists A.L. and W.L. Gordin through the prism of human being problem. The study involved not only the collective work of thinkers, but also their solo-creative work in the period 1909–1924. AbstractDeep-marine strata of the Skiddaw Group, deposited in high southerly palaeolatitudes on the northern margin of Eastern Avalonia in the early Ordovician, contain a diverse ichnofauna dominated by examples of fodinichnia. This includes Alcyonidiopsis pharmaceus, several ichnospecies of Chondrites, Dictyodora zimmermani, Glockerichnus radiatus, Gordia marina, Ixalichnus enodius, two or possibly three ichnospecies of Phycodes, Planolites montanus, Volkichnium volki, an ‘arthropod-produced? repichnion’, ‘paired pits’, ?Gordia aff. marina, ‘thinly-walled, looping, burrows’ and burrows of Planolites/Palaeophycus affinity. Stellascolites radiatus Etheridge, 1876 is reassigned to the ichnogenus Glockerichnus Pickerill, 1982 as Glockerichnus radiatus (Etheridge, 1876).Several of the ichnotaxa are present in other ichnofaunal assemblages of early Ordovician age which were also emplaced at high southerly palaeolatitudes. The relatively high diversity of this ichnofaunal assemblage supports suggestions that models of the rate at which the deep-marine environment was colonized during the early Phanerozoic are in need of revision.

Abstract:

On 19.07.2020 died a geographer and terminologist, a graduate and lecturer at the University of Tartu and the founder of the Mari national cartography Yuri Vitalievich Gordeev (Estonian: Jüri Gordejev). Regional, national and linguistic aspects were main in his activities in geography and cartography. In his master’s thesis, Gordeev dealt with the problems of the national identity of the Eastern Mari. He worked as a lecturer at the Narva College of the University of Tartu and as a teacher of geography at the Narva Pähklimäe gymnasium. During the Narva period were completed his projects started in Tartu. The most important work of Yuri Gordeev is the map of the Republic of Mari El published in 2008, which consists only of Mari toponyms. A year later in 2009 Yuri Gordeev published a map of the Mari pagan groves. Gordeev took part in the projects of the Finnish Finno-Ugrist Seppo Lallukka. He was also involved in the compilation of terminological textbooks.

Gordian complex of knots was defined by Hirasawa and Uchida as the simplicial complex whose vertices are knot isotopy classes in [Formula: see text]. Later Horiuchi and Ohyama defined Gordian complex of virtual knots using [Formula: see text]-move and forbidden moves. In this paper, we discuss Gordian complex of knots by region crossing change and Gordian complex of virtual knots by arc shift move. Arc shift move is a local move in the virtual knot diagram which results in reversing orientation locally between two consecutive crossings. We show the existence of an arbitrarily high-dimensional simplex in both the Gordian complexes, i.e. by region crossing change and by the arc shift move. For any given knot (respectively, virtual knot) diagram we construct an infinite family of knots (respectively, virtual knots) such that any two distinct members of the family have distance one by region crossing change (respectively, arc shift move). We show that the constructed virtual knots have the same affine index polynomial.

Contextualiza a importância do figurino na realização de um espetáculo, sendo muito mais do que uma roupa. Aborda um pouco da realidade das atrizes gordas. A partir de alguns depoimentos de atrizes e vivências pessoais da autora certas tensões são evidenciadas nessa relação atrizes gordas/figurinos/figurinistas. Quando falamos de figurinos pensados para atrizes que não são magras, um reflexo da opressão estética e da gordofobia que vigoram socialmente aparecem no meio teatral. O artigo com essas ponderações propõe que repensemos essa estrutura para que as atrizes gordas possam usar quaisquer tipos de figurinos, sem que isso se torne uma problemática.

AbstractThe crystal structure of Ni-rich gordaite–thérèsemagnanite has been determined from a sample collected at pillar 80 in the North mine, Cap Garonne, Var, France. The structure was refined to R1 = 0.0693 for 935 reflections with I > 2σ(I). The mineral is isostructural with gordaite, forming a layered structure with an extensive hydrogen-bonding network. The possible polytypic relationship between gordaite, thérèsemagnanite and guarinoite is also discussed. The guarinoite formula (Zn,Co,Ni)6(SO4)(OH,Cl)10·5H2O is also likely to be incorrect and is more likely to be Na(Zn,Co)4(SO4)(OH)6Cl·5–6H2O, meaning that guarinoite is equivalent to Co-rich gordaite-2H and would not be a distinct mineral species.

In this paper, the extended double (2+1)-dimensional sine-Gorden equation is studied. First of all, using the symmetry method, the corresponding vector fields, Lie algebra and infinitesimal generators are derived. Then, from infinitesimal generators, the symmetry reductions are presented. In addition, these reduced equations are converted into the corresponding partial differential equations, which including classical double (1+1)-dimensional sine-Gorden equation. Moreover, based on the Lie symmetry method again, these reduced equations are investigated. Meanwhile, based on traveling wave transformation, some explicit solutions of the extended double (2+1)-dimensional sine-Gorden equation are obtained. Consequently, a conservation law is derived via conservation law multiplier method. Finally, especially with the help of the fractional complex transform, some solutions of double time fractional (2+1)-dimensional sine-Gorden equation are also derived. These results might explain complex nonlinear phenomenon.

O objetivo é analisar a inclusão das mulheres gordas nas capas da revista Donna, cuja temática é a moda a partir da interseccionalidade, que pensa gênero atravessado pelas categorias de raça, classe, sexualidade, faixa etária, estética e deficiência. O corpus é formado por dez capas de Donna publicadas em vinte e sete anos. Como principais constatações estão o fato de que há, também, no universo de representação das mulheres gordas, a obediência a um padrão estético, reproduzindo o que já é naturalizado no universo das mulheres magras: as gordas são brancas, jovens, com corpos menores. Pensar lugar de fala é imprescindível para compreender o espaço autorizado pela revista para que as gordas ocupem e sobre o que é permitido que falem. As análises revelam que, em 80% das capas, o lugar de fala de mulher gorda implicou a maneira com que ela foi retratada sendo motivo para sua presença, ou seja, a mulher gorda estava pelo fato de ser gorda e foi relacionada à moda em três aspectos principais: (a) regras de moda específicas para seus corpos, orientando sobre o que se pode ou não usar; (b) mercado de moda plus size, quando há a quebra de regras anteriores relacionadas à moda tradicional e uma celebração das mulheres gordas na moda; (c) por fim, temáticas relacionadas à autoaceitação e amor-próprio, sem mencionar moda plus size, há também a quebra de regras; porém, a centralidade não são as gordas nem a moda, esta última aparece como auxiliar importante no processo de autoestima.

This study was conducted in the plastic house at the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Design - College of Agriculture and Forestry - University of Mosul, Iraq. For the period from 1/2/2013 until 1/8/2013. To study the effect of three dates of cutting collection from 1st February to 1st April monthly intervals, and soaking the cuttings in four concentrations of IBA solution 0, 2000, 3000, 4000mg.l-1 seconds on the rooting ability and subsequent growth of semi-hard wood cuttings of two olive varieties Gordal Sevillano and Tanche. The results were showed the cuttings were collected on the 1st of March resulted into the highest of rooted cutting, survival %, carbohydrate content, carbohydrate to nitrogen (C/N ratio) in the basal cuttings. Rooting increased proportionately with increasing of IBA concentrations principally the cuttings were soaked in 4000mg.l-1. Gordal Sevillano cuttings gave a significantly increase of rooting and the basal cuttings gave a significantly increased of carbohydrates content than Tanche variety. The best rooting percentage were get from interaction between Gordal Sevillano which collected on the 1st of March treated with 4000 mg.l-1 were gave 66.67%. Highest rate of survival (80.0%) of control treatment of Tanche olive variety were taken on 1st of February. The highest content of carbohydrate (18.10) were obtained in Gordal Sevillano basal cuttings were taken on 1st of March. Higher percentage of Nitrogen (1.58%) were obtained from interaction between basal cutting of Gordal Sevillano variety. were taken on 1st of March. The highest percentage of C/N ration were got by interaction of Gordal Sevillano which collected on 1st of March.

Gorden diruangan terbuka atau tertutup dan lampu hidup atau mati secara otomatis berdasarkan pendeteksian cahaya luar ruangan oleh sensor LDR (Light Dependent Resistor).Gerak buka-tutup gorden tipe vertical blind ini dilakukan melalui mekanisme putaran motor stepper 5V. Suhu dan kelembaban ruangan dideteksi oleh sensor DHT22 untuk pengontrolan kipas angin. Nilai suhu dan kelembaban ditampilkan pada LCD 2x16. Hasil uji ini menunjukkan bahwa sistem otomatis yang dikontrol dengan mikrokontroler ATmega328 dapat bekerja sesuai dengan algoritma yang dirancang.
