Abstract:
The New Zealand hairworms (Nematomorpha: Gordioidea) Gordius dimorphus n.sp., Euchordodes nigromaculatus n.sp., and Gordionus diblastus (Örley) are described or redescribed as parasites of the stenopelmatid (Orthoptera) genera Deinacrida, Hemiandrus, Zealandosandrus, and Hemideina. Hairworm larvae are described from aquatic insect paratenic hosts. It is assumed that when these hosts are eaten by wetas, the parasites invade the body cavity of the latter and develop to maturity. On the basis of biogeographical and paleontological evidence it is likely that weta parasitism by hairworms extends ba

The species Haplotaxis gordioides (Hartmann, 1821), from the family Haplotaxidae (Oligochaeta), was found for the first time in a lowland, potamon-type river (Sava River, Serbian sector) in 2002. This new record adds to our knowledge of the range and spreading of the given species. .

A new species, Chordodes colchis, is described from several locations in Georgia. The species resembles some other Chorodes species, especially C. anthophorus, which has also been described from Georgia, but differs in conspicuous details. The new species possesses prominent thorn areoles, which were not described in C. anthophorus. The new species is the seventh species known from Georgia.

Gordius chiashanus sp. nov., a newly described horsehair worm that parasitizes the Spirobolus millipede, is one of the three described horsehair worm species in Taiwan. It is morphologically similar to G. helveticus Schmidt-Rhaesa, 2010 because of the progressively broadening distribution of bristles concentrated on the male tail lobes, but it is distinguishable from G. helveticus because of the stout bristles on the mid-body. In addition, a vertical white stripe on the anterior ventral side and areoles on the inside wall of the cloacal opening are rarely mentioned in other Gordius species. Fr

Three females and one male specimen of a previously unconfirmed species of horsehair worms (Nematomorpha) from South Africa are described using Scanning Electron Microscopy. The females correspond to the description of Chordodes ferox Camerano, 1897, a species previously described from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Congo-Kinshasa) and an adjacent, not further specified region of the Republic of Congo (Congo-Brazzaville). Characteristic is the presence of enlarged and elevated simple areoles around the base of a thorn areole, in combination with further cuticular characters. This is the

Thirty-eight species of oligochaetes (Annelida, Clitellata) belonging to five families were recorded from profundal bottoms of 50 freshwater lakes on Japanese islands. They were mostly widely distributed species, and the composition of fauna is basically explained by the scheme of Timm (2012), with parallel replacement of European species. Oxygen, temperature and surrounding fauna could be main factors determining the profundal fauna in the lakes. Haplotaxis is a genus of aquatic oligochaetes for which only limited information is available on its taxonomy, distribution, habitat and diet. During a soil survey in southern Poland, specimens of Haplotaxis cf. gordioides were unexpectedly found in terrestrial mineral subsoils, isolated from any apparent water source. This discovery provides an opportunity to investigate two aspects of Haplotaxis: habitat and diet. For the first time, the predatory nature of Haplotaxis has been assessed using stable isotope analysis of carbon and nitrogen and compared with detritivorous worms. In addition, th
