Abstract:
Postmoderni gotski žanr predstavlja postmodernu inkarnaciju tradicionalnog gotskog žanra i obuhvata tradicionalne gotske elemente, premda u izvesnoj meri izmenjene i nadograđene. U biti, ovaj žanr predstavlja jedinstven spoj gotskog žanra i postmodernih odlika. U radu se razmatraju takvi unapređeni gotski elementi na primeru romana Čaka Palahnjuka Borilački klub. Svi glavni gotski elementi (poput vremena i mesta zbivanja, gotskih junaka i junakinje, dvojnika itd.) predstavljeni su u ovom romanu sa posebnim naglaskom na subjektivnosti i elementu terora, jer su oni možda dve tačke najvećeg pomaka u odnosu na tradicionalne karakteristike gotskog žanra. Osim gotske teorije i teorije postmodernizma, jos jedan teorijski okvir se doima vrlo bitnim za interpretaciju ovog romana, a to je Bodrijarova teorija hiperrealnosti. Tradicionalna gotska priča izmeštena je tako da pripada nivou realnosti koji je upečatljivo očuđen od stvarnosti koja je činjenica. Uz ovakav jedinstven spoj različitih, premda čini se srodnih, teorijskih okvira, Palahnjukov roman jeste jedan od najboljih predstavnika postmodernog gotskog žanra.

Abstract:
Konzervatorska istraživanja i obnova crkve u razdoblju 2006. - 2020. godine doprinijela su nekim novim spoznajama o graditeljskoj slojevitosti, stilskim, tipološkim i strukturnim odrednica slojevite srednjovjekovne sakralne građevine. U srednjem vijeku crkva sv. Bartola u Novim Mikanovcima nalazila se na posjedu Horvati u srednjovjekovnoj Vukovskoj županiji. Taj posjed u 13. stoljeću bio je u rukama viteškog reda ivanovaca ili hospitalaca sv. Ivana Jeruzalemskog. Posjed se prvi puta spominje u ispravi ugarskog kralja Bele IV. iz 1238. godine. Crkvu sv. Bartola u Novim Mikanovcima izgradili su vjerojatno ivanovci nešto prije ili polovinom 13. stoljeća. Rezultati istražnih konzervatorskih radova na perimetralnim zidovima crkve ukazuju da je crkva obnovljena i utvrđena u drugoj polovini 13. stoljeća, u razdoblju kada je još uvijek u posjedu ivanovaca. Utvđivanje crkve vjerojatno je potaknuto provalom Tatara 1242. godine i njihovog pustošenja Ugarsko - Hrvatskog kraljevstva. U sklopu te obnove brod crkve produžuje se prema zapadu, a crkva dobiva skošeni kružni toranj obrambenih karakteristika, koji je mogao služiti i kao osmatračnica. Tijekom 14. stoljeća posjed je u rukama Horvata od plemićkog roda Báncsa. Godine 1387. posjed Horvati prelazi u ruke palatinske grane obitelji Gorjanski. Gotička obnova crkve izvedena je u razdoblju 1402. - 1420. godine, vjerojatno od strane tadašnjih vlasnika posjeda palatina Nikole II. Gorjanskog (1367.-1433.) i njegovog brata Ivana Gorjanskog (1371.-1429.). U sklopu te obnove, na poziciji starijeg svetišta podignuto je novo gotičko poligonalno svetište i sakristija. U pogledu stilskih obilježja, radi se o izrazito kvalitetnoj obnovi koje su izveli graditelji, odnosno kamenoklesarska radionica, koja je radila po uzoru klesarskih radionica češke gotike i kruga oko Petra Parlera. Od 1481. godine posjed Horvati se nalazi u vlasništvu banske grane obitelji Lovre Bánffyja Gorjanskog. U razdoblju od 1478. do 1503. godine crkva je stradala u ratnim razaranjima, kao i sva naselja ovog posjeda. Crkva je vjerojatno obnovljena 1506. godine nakon smirivanja ratnih prilika i dinastičkih previranja i sukoba između Lovre Bánffyja Gorjanskog i pristaša Maksimilijana Habsburškog i ugarske velikaške obitelji braće Géreba od Vingarta i kralja Vladislava II. Jagelovića. U sklopu te kasnosrednjovjekovne obnove, za koju je zaslužan vjerojatno Lovro Bánffy Gorjanski kao vlasnik posjeda, unutrašnjost svetišta crkve oslikana je renesansnim zidnim oslikom. Od cjelovite kompozicije zidnog oslika svetišta sačuvala se djelomično ikonografska kompozicija na začeljnom zidu gotičke trodjelne sedilije. Ikonografska kompozicija sastoji se od prikaza triju svetaca u stojećem stavu: Mojsija, sv. Nikole kao srednjovjekovnog titulara crkve i sv. Ivana Krstitelja. Ikonografska slikana kompozicija s početka 16. stoljeća je kvalitetan primjer renesansnog slikarstva u Slavoniji i šire u Hrvatskoj, estetsko - umjetničke vrijednosti. Nakon oslobađanja prostora od Osmalija, slijedeća barokna obnova crkve sv. Bartola izvedena je 1730. - 1731. godine od strane đakovačkog biskupa Petra Bakića. Crkva sv. Bartola u Novim Mikanovcima svojom stilskim karakteristikama, tipologijom tlocrta, od kojeg se posebno izdvaja jedinstveni volumen skošenog kružnog tornja, ubraja se u skupinu izrazito vrijednih fortificiranih srednjovjekovnih sakralnih građevina Hrvatske

Abstract:
W artykule przedstawiono hipotezę przeobrażeń elewacji wschodniej klauzury opactwa cysterskiego w Lądzie. Opracowano ją na podstawie badań architektonicznych prowadzonych w 2019 roku przez zespół przy Wydziale Architektury Politechniki Wrocławskiej kierowany przez autorkę. Wydzielono cztery zasadnicze fazy przekształceń elewacji. We wczesnym gotyku zbudowano dwukondygnacyjną ścianę, później ją podwyższono i dobudowano przedłużenie zakrystii. Kolejna faza gotycka to rozbudowa elewacji w kierunku południowym, a barokowa – podwyższenie i zmiana wystroju. Artykuł zakończono stwierdzeniem, że wiele zagadnień związanych zwłaszcza z datowaniem omawianej elewacji wymaga dalszych prac badawczych.

Dalla documentazione presentata, ancorché in modo non completo, si può constatare che ogni qual volta il testo greco presenta i1 verbo nella posizione 'in incastro', 2 anche in quello gotico troviamo la stessa situazione. E benché crediamo a una sostanziale dipendenza dal greco dalla prassi sintattica gotica, 3 tuttavia riteniamo che non si possa del tutto escludere di trovarsi in presenza di uno stesso tratto sintattico, cioé di uno stesso modo di distribuire l'informazione, secondo un preciso ordine dei costituenti di frase, di origine indoeuropea. La "spezzatura di ciò che secondo il nostro sentimento linguistico è unito [ ... ] è comune sia tra i Greci che tra i Latini e gli Indiani4 e si trova in tracce ben riconoscibili anche nell'epica germanica".5 Purtroppo, come già G. Bonfante, anche noi pur "scandagliando l'epopea germanica [non abbiamo] trovato nulla in questo senso".6 La presenza sicura di questo tratto nel gotico però e, per chi come noi gli dà valore, l 'uso della tmesi 7 in testi epici germanici 8 sono 1í ad avvalorare l'ipotesi che la posizione 'in incastro' del verbo rappresenta "il modo più antico, facilmente c omprensibile dal p unto di v ista psicologico, di ordinare le paro le n ella frase idg". 9 È ben vero che il passo del Vangelo di Luca (2, 25) "7tveuμa. Tiv &ytov E7t' a.u't6v", reso in gotico "ahma weihs was ana imma", sembrerebbe opporsi a quanto è stato appena affermato. Ma cosí non è. Infatti, "il ne faut pas perdre de vue que Wulfila a suivi un manuscrit grec du type de *K ou *Kt, mais que la version gotique présente des leçons propre à 1cxo5" .1 O E molti manoscritti appartenenti al 'Ti po I' 11 riportano la lezione "7tveuμa. &ytov Tiv". 12 Pertanto, l'unica conclusione che da questo esempio si deve trarre è che il grande Vescovo dei Goti abbia avuto sotto gli occhi un testo di questa ultima famiglia e, come è nel suo stile, ne sia stato condizionato.

<p>Celem artykułu jest odpowiedź na pytanie, w jaki sposób literatura gotycka w wydaniu Shirley Jackson stawała się narzędziem, za pomocą którego pisarka mogła przedstawić zmiany społeczne i kulturalne swoich czasów. Jackson używa elementów gotyku kobiecego do opisania sytuacji kobiet w latach 50. XX wieku w Stanach Zjednoczonych. Autorka artykułu omawia dwa opowiadania Jackson –<em>The Daemon Lover </em>i <em>The Tooth</em>. Skupiając się na relacji matka-córka, autorka za pomocą teorii psychoanalitycznych udowadnia, że kobiety w tekstach amerykańskiej pisarki próbują przeciwstawić się przypisywanym im rolom społecznym. Wyparta tęsknota za matką utrudnia bądź nawet uniemożliwia bohaterkom opowiadań Jackson wykształcenie własnej osobowości i osiągnięcie niezależności, a tym samym znaczącej pozycji w społeczeństwie.</p>

Tulisan ini mengkaji unsur-unsur gotik yang terdapat dalam novel Penunggu Jenazah karya Abdullah Harahap. Novel yang dikaji menunjukkan keterkaitan unsur-unsur gotik sebagai pembangun cerita, yaitu hal-hal supernatural, bentuk-bentuk transgresi, latar yang menyeramkan, bentuk-bentuk monstrositas, excess dan fetis. Kajian ini dilandasi dengan menggunakan teori gotik. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa unsur gotik dalam novel Penunggu Jenazah saling tumpang tindih. Hal-hal supernatural digunakan sebagai sumber konflik dan bentuk transgresi. Transgresi sebagai unsur gotik menggunakan pelanggaran terhadap tabu yang melibatkan transgresi terhadap seksualitas, tubuh, dan kematian. Latar yang menyeramkan, bentuk-bentuk monstrositas dan excess dihadirkan sebagai unsur gotik yang menggangu tatanan norma dan normalitas. Fetis yang muncul dalam Penunggu Jenazah adalah fetis terhadap tubuh perempuan dengan kecenderungan sadomasokis. Novel disajikan dengan mencampurkan semua unsur gotik dengan unsur supernatural, transgresi dan monstrositas sebagai unsur gotik yang dominan. Oleh sebab itu, penelitian ini saya fokuskan untuk mengungkap cara gotik ditampilkan dalam karya Harahap.Abstract: This paper examines the gothic elements in the novel entitled Penunggu Jenazah written by Abdullah Harahap. The novel shows that the gothic elements are supernatural, forms of transgression, scary setting, forms of monstrosity, excess and fetish. This study uses gothic theories. Furthermore, the results of the analysis also show that the gothic elements are overlapping. Transgression as the gothic element is using violation of taboo of sexuality, body and death. The scary setting, the forms of monstrosity and excess are representing to disturb norms and normality. The fetish in the Penunggu Jenazah novel is the fetish of a woman body with a tendency to sadomasochism. Gothic is represented by blending all gothic elements with the supernatural, transgression and monstrosity as the majority elements. Moreover, this study is focused on the way gothic represented.

On dokuzuncu yüzyıl İngiliz edebiyatında Romantik dönem kendinden önceki dönemin edebi ilkelerinden tamamen farklı bir edebiyat anlayışı ile öne çıkmıştır. Bu dönem, yaratıcılığı kısıtlayan kurallardan ve yaygın anlayıştan uzaklaşma ve bir özgürleşme hissi ortaya koymuştur. On sekizinci yüzyıl şiirindeki klasisizm odağının aksine, Romantik şiir orta çağ temalarına yönelmiş ve doğaüstü elementler ile gotik hayal gücüne yer vermiştir. John Keats'in şiirlerinde hayal gücü, güzellik ve doğruya ulaşmanın ve alternatif bir dünya kurmanın en önemli yoludur. “Güzelliğin ilkesini her şeyde sevdiğini” ifade eden şair hayali diyarlar yaratarak gerçeğe alternatif bakış açıları geliştirir (The Letters 186, 467). Keats Isabella; ya da, Fesleğen Saksısı (1818) isimli şiirinde orta çağa ait bir hikayeyi gotik unsurlar kullanarak kendi güzellik anlayışına göre uyarlamıştır. Ürkütücü detaylar içeren gotik unsurlar çirkin ve tehditkar görünebilir fakat Keats'in güzellik anlayışı akıldışı, hayali ve huşu uyandıran duygularla sevinç ve mutluluğu birlikte kabul eder. Şiirin gotik atmosferi bir cesedin başının fesleğen saksısına yerleştirilip gözyaşlarıyla sulanması gibi dehşet verici bir olaya dayanmaktadır. Bu korkunç olay şiirde bir genç kızın sevgisinin yansıması ve gerçeğin farklı bir yorumu olarak ele alınmıştır. Bu bağlamda bu çalışmanın odağı özellikle Keats'in gerçek ile bir tuttuğu güzelliğe ulaşmak için kullandığı gotik unsurları hayal gücünün ürünü olarak nasıl ele aldığı olacaktır. Isabella'da gotik unsurların kullanımı üzerinde durularak bu çalışmada hayal gücünün yansımalarının Keats'in güzellik ve gerçek kavramlarına yaklaşımına katkısı incelenecektir.

Abstract:
Syftet med denna uppsats är att ur ett genreteoretiskt och komparativt perspektiv med hjälp av metoden närläsning undersöka vilka av gotikens genrekonventioner som förekommer i svensk urban fantasy. Romanerna som analyseras är Nene Ormes Udda verklighet (2010), Mats Strandbergs och Sara Bergmark Elfgrens Cirkeln (2011), samt Charlotte Cederlunds Middagsmörker (2016). De gotiska genrekonventioner som används vid analysen är hämtade från Mattias Fyhrs definition av gotik i hans doktorsavhandling De mörka labyrinterna (2003). I diskussionsdelen kombineras dessa med Alastair Fowlers teori ur Kinds of Literature (1982) kring hur olika genrer förefaller ha en rörlighet och flyta in i varandra. Resultatet av analysen visar att samtliga av Fyhrs kategorier finns representerade i de tre romanerna, och skiljer sig något i hur de gestaltas. Följande slutsatser dras: att många likheter förekommer såsom att de drömmar och syner som skildras är vitala för böckernas handlingar, att huvudkaraktären i samtliga analyserade romaner är kvinnlig, utom i Cirkeln där fem perspektiv förekommer varav ett är manligt, att alla romaner har sina egna varianter på fantasytroperna Rådet och Den utvalda, samt att urban fantasy inte går att se som en modern variant av gotiken utan snarare utgör en sentida ättling till gotikgenren.

Abstract:
Denna uppsats undersöker vilka litterära gotiska motiv och begrepp som rockbandet The Cure använder sig av i sin visuella estetik, närmare bestämt i tre av deras musikvideor: "Charlotte Sometimes (1981), "The Lovecats" (1983) och "Lullaby" (1989). Analysen och undersökningen utgår från teorier kring semiotisk bildanalys samt ett intermedialt perspektiv där det tidigare skrivna ordet transformeras till visuella bilder. Andra teoretiska inriktningar som används i denna text är bland annat genusteorier kring receptionen av bilder samt ett psykoanalytiskt perspektiv där främst det undermedvetnas funktion inom den litterära texten granskas. Undersökningen kring och om gotiken utgår ifrån Mattias Fyhr definition av den litterära gotikens kännetecken. Undersökningen visar att The Cure använder sig av typiska gotiska motiv och könsstereotyper i sin visuella estetik men anpassar samt omvandlar gotikens uttryckssätt till att fungera i en postmodern kontext. De ursprungliga gotiska begreppen och skildringarna av kön, psykologi och konst är genomgående synliga i musikvideorerna men manifesterar sig på ett nytt sätt genom The Cures visuella konstnärsskap.

The aim of this essay is to investigate the meaning and importance of the female friendship within Ellen Moers tradition and theory regarding the female gothic. In this essay, I argue that the female friendship has played an important role in the portrayal of the Gothic fiction as socially critical of women’s position in the society, mainly by examining the two works Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. The essay is also interested in how the female gothic has developed over time and whether the notion can be applied while analysing more contemporary gothic, and thus, considers the works’ different time periods.

Abstract:
Gotska Sandön is the Baltic ocean’s most isolated island, located approximately 40 kilometres north from the closest civilisation. Today the island serves as a national park and a tourist attraction. The remoteness has made the island a difficult place to reach both in the past and today. Yet, excavations on the island show that human activity existed long before tourists arrived.                     The study observes Gotska Sandön through a long-term perspective by examining the osteological and archaeological findings from the island. The study is part of a larger project conducted by Uppsala university and Södertörns högskola. The purpose of the study is to examine the historic human activity on the island to determine the island’s importance for humans in the past. Therefore, this paper examines all ages where human activity can be traced, resulting in a perspective from the stone age to present-time.         Results indicate human activity through different eras where the island has worked as a hunting ground as well as a place for rituals such as funeral sites. Conclusions that can be drawn from the study is that the island has had different meanings through different times, ritual such as functional. The study finds a strong connection between human activity and seal hunting throughout the ages and indicates the impact seal hunting has had for human survival.

Au sous-genre littéraire “gothique méditerranéen” appartiennent des narrations situées dans le Sud du continent, et dans l'Italie en particulier, dérivées de l'expérience du Grand Tour, qui se rapprochent des domaines du fantastique, de l'étrange et du merveilleux. Les récits examinés expriment le passage de la culture païenne à la civilisation chrétienne, en se référant au mythe de Pigmalion et au thème de la statue vivante
The dissertation draws a primary definition of the idea of “Mediterranean Gothic”, starting from the Geschichte der Kunst des Alterthums (1764) by Johann Joachim Winckelmann, and from The Castle of Otranto (1764) by Horace Walpole, through the analysis of some texts of Heinrich Heine (Elementargeister, 1837), Prosper Mérimée (La Vénus d'Ille, 1837), Théophile Gautier (Arria Marcella, 1852), Henry James (The Last of the Valerii, 1874) and Vernon Lee (Dionea, 1890). In the literary subgenre of “Mediterranean Gothic” are included texts with an Italian or Southern-European setting. They rise from the Grand Tour experience, and they assume fantastic or gothic forms. The texts express the passage from the pagan culture to the catholic civilization, and they are all related to the Pygmalion's myth and the theme of the living statue

Abstract:
Applying basic linguistic theory, a grammatical analysis of Gothic verbs formed with the previously underdescribed quasi-prefix (or preverb) miþ- shows that it forms what could be called an atypical type of applicative, though in two cases it seems instead to mark verbal congruence to an adverbial. Of the possible meanings of the etymologically identical preposition miþ, the comitative seems most salient for the quasi-prefix. An introduced core argument in these constructions do not behave like a typicaltransitive object, as it cannot be passivised, and so is likely rather an extension E (or indirect object) to the core. An underlying transitive object O remains as is, and can be passivised. The construction is only used when E pertains to the topic of the discourse, either an overlapping or a new topic. It is never a background comment, as is attested with peripheral arguments. The dative case of the introduced E seems to be semantically motivated, it being thecombination—comparable to a complex case marking—of the preposition and the quasi-prefix with the dative case that signals the comitative meaning. This construction is formally unrestrained, being applied to intransitive, ambitransitive, and transitive verbs, either with or without vowel gradation. In most cases the introduced E has a human referent, but it can also be a concrete object or an abstract. It cannot be inferred from this investigation whether Gothic allowed more than one applicative construction to be applied to the same verb. It would seem there are indications that this construction might have been a relatively new and developing construction in Gothic. In the verbal template, miþ- occupies the outermost position, in itself an indication of late grammaticalization. The one extant exception to this position could indicate an uncertainty of the translator regarding as to which its proper place was. The two instances with both miþ- and a comitative adverbial suggest—unless an artifact of translation—a possible development from peripheral argument to an atypical E-introducing applicative via verbal congruence.

Abstract:
The aim of this report was to investigate if the number and distribution of sea holly (Eryngium maritimum) on the island of Gotska Sandön in the Baltic sea north of Gotland have, and to explore if there is a link between change in plant habitat and change in number of sea holly individuals on the island. To do so a plant inventory was made in 2021 and compared to a previous inventory that was done in 2009. The number of individuals was counted and the habitat which they grey in was noted. Moreover, the presence of japanese rose (Rosa rugosa), and the expansion of scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) was also noted in each locality where sea holly was found. The number of individuals of sea holly on Gotska Sandön went from 9353 in 2009 to 8310 in 2021, mainly becuase of fewer individuals in the largest locality of sea holly on the island. This is probably due to an increase in the proportion of individuals growing on the wooded dunes compared to 2009 and an expansion of japanese rose in the locality. The localities where no scots pine or japanese rose grew in the grey- and white dunes the individuals of sea holly stayed the same or increased in numbers. Despite this, no link could be found between the change in sea holly individual numbers and what plan habitat they grew on Gotska Sandön 2021.

Abstract:
This bachelor thesis discusses the concept of genre and the comic Gothic. It is an attempt to demonstrate the conflicts rooted in "genre" by discussing several scholars, such as Alistair Fowler and Mattias Fyhr with their works Kinds of Literature and De mörka labyrinterna respectively, and then problematise the "Gothic" as a genre and as a concept. Thus Avril Horner’s and Sue Zlosnik’s work Gothic and the Comic Turn is consulted through the discussion. The questions I ask are the following: What is a literary genre? How is the comic Gothic described by the researchers, and how does comic Gothic work in A. Lee Martinez’ novel Gil’s All Fright Diner (2005)? How can one use these questions in the classroom? The used methods in the thesis are genre analysis and close reading. I conclude that genre is a way to understand the relationship between a literary work and various conventions, such as environment and its contemporaries. Genre is also a tool for the reader to understand the traditions, history and other works the read text is related to. The comic inside the Gothic may appear and is as natural to the genre as horror and terror, since the Gothic is always close to self-parody. This can even be observed in the first Gothic novel, Horace Walpole’s Castle of Otranto (1764). Furthermore, Gil’s All Fright Diner uses both the repertoire of classic Gothic and Horner’s and Zlosnik’s findings of the comic turn in the Gothic. Finally, the question regarding the definition of literary genre can be used in the classroom to widen students’ views on both genre itself and the prose they read. The comic Gothic can be used as an example on how genre can appear in different modes. Gil’s All Fright Diner is a thankful text for classroom readings due to its comic and gothic nature, and its contemporary language, themes and styles can make it relatable to students. There is therefore a potential in the concept of genre and the comic Gothic as subjects of discussion in the classroom.
