Abstract:
Syftet med denna uppsats är att ur ett genreteoretiskt och komparativt perspektiv med hjälp av metoden närläsning undersöka vilka av gotikens genrekonventioner som förekommer i svensk urban fantasy. Romanerna som analyseras är Nene Ormes Udda verklighet (2010), Mats Strandbergs och Sara Bergmark Elfgrens Cirkeln (2011), samt Charlotte Cederlunds Middagsmörker (2016). De gotiska genrekonventioner som används vid analysen är hämtade från Mattias Fyhrs definition av gotik i hans doktorsavhandling De mörka labyrinterna (2003). I diskussionsdelen kombineras dessa med Alastair Fowlers teori ur Kinds of Literature (1982) kring hur olika genrer förefaller ha en rörlighet och flyta in i varandra. Resultatet av analysen visar att samtliga av Fyhrs kategorier finns representerade i de tre romanerna, och skiljer sig något i hur de gestaltas. Följande slutsatser dras: att många likheter förekommer såsom att de drömmar och syner som skildras är vitala för böckernas handlingar, att huvudkaraktären i samtliga analyserade romaner är kvinnlig, utom i Cirkeln där fem perspektiv förekommer varav ett är manligt, att alla romaner har sina egna varianter på fantasytroperna Rådet och Den utvalda, samt att urban fantasy inte går att se som en modern variant av gotiken utan snarare utgör en sentida ättling till gotikgenren.

Abstract:
Denna uppsats undersöker vilka litterära gotiska motiv och begrepp som rockbandet The Cure använder sig av i sin visuella estetik, närmare bestämt i tre av deras musikvideor: "Charlotte Sometimes (1981), "The Lovecats" (1983) och "Lullaby" (1989). Analysen och undersökningen utgår från teorier kring semiotisk bildanalys samt ett intermedialt perspektiv där det tidigare skrivna ordet transformeras till visuella bilder. Andra teoretiska inriktningar som används i denna text är bland annat genusteorier kring receptionen av bilder samt ett psykoanalytiskt perspektiv där främst det undermedvetnas funktion inom den litterära texten granskas. Undersökningen kring och om gotiken utgår ifrån Mattias Fyhr definition av den litterära gotikens kännetecken. Undersökningen visar att The Cure använder sig av typiska gotiska motiv och könsstereotyper i sin visuella estetik men anpassar samt omvandlar gotikens uttryckssätt till att fungera i en postmodern kontext. De ursprungliga gotiska begreppen och skildringarna av kön, psykologi och konst är genomgående synliga i musikvideorerna men manifesterar sig på ett nytt sätt genom The Cures visuella konstnärsskap.

Master thesis concerns of the architecture of Jan Blažej Santini- Aichel from the point of view of cultural tourism in the Czech Republic.First part is concentrated on definition cultural tourism and its components. Second part clarifies the importance and position of Santini`s architecture in art history. Third part takes note of attendance and present touristic offer of sights whose common denominator is architect Santini, and also is attentive to activities of citizen`s association Travel around Santini. The conclusion endeavours to define the position of Santini`s sights in the cultural tourism in the Czech Republic and also tries to point out assets and negatives of activities of citizen`s association Travel around Santini, and outlines potential direction of activities of the citizen`s association in the future.

The aim of this essay is to investigate the meaning and importance of the female friendship within Ellen Moers tradition and theory regarding the female gothic. In this essay, I argue that the female friendship has played an important role in the portrayal of the Gothic fiction as socially critical of women’s position in the society, mainly by examining the two works Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. The essay is also interested in how the female gothic has developed over time and whether the notion can be applied while analysing more contemporary gothic, and thus, considers the works’ different time periods.

Abstract:
Gotska Sandön is the Baltic ocean’s most isolated island, located approximately 40 kilometres north from the closest civilisation. Today the island serves as a national park and a tourist attraction. The remoteness has made the island a difficult place to reach both in the past and today. Yet, excavations on the island show that human activity existed long before tourists arrived.                     The study observes Gotska Sandön through a long-term perspective by examining the osteological and archaeological findings from the island. The study is part of a larger project conducted by Uppsala university and Södertörns högskola. The purpose of the study is to examine the historic human activity on the island to determine the island’s importance for humans in the past. Therefore, this paper examines all ages where human activity can be traced, resulting in a perspective from the stone age to present-time.         Results indicate human activity through different eras where the island has worked as a hunting ground as well as a place for rituals such as funeral sites. Conclusions that can be drawn from the study is that the island has had different meanings through different times, ritual such as functional. The study finds a strong connection between human activity and seal hunting throughout the ages and indicates the impact seal hunting has had for human survival.

Au sous-genre littéraire “gothique méditerranéen” appartiennent des narrations situées dans le Sud du continent, et dans l'Italie en particulier, dérivées de l'expérience du Grand Tour, qui se rapprochent des domaines du fantastique, de l'étrange et du merveilleux. Les récits examinés expriment le passage de la culture païenne à la civilisation chrétienne, en se référant au mythe de Pigmalion et au thème de la statue vivante
The dissertation draws a primary definition of the idea of “Mediterranean Gothic”, starting from the Geschichte der Kunst des Alterthums (1764) by Johann Joachim Winckelmann, and from The Castle of Otranto (1764) by Horace Walpole, through the analysis of some texts of Heinrich Heine (Elementargeister, 1837), Prosper Mérimée (La Vénus d'Ille, 1837), Théophile Gautier (Arria Marcella, 1852), Henry James (The Last of the Valerii, 1874) and Vernon Lee (Dionea, 1890). In the literary subgenre of “Mediterranean Gothic” are included texts with an Italian or Southern-European setting. They rise from the Grand Tour experience, and they assume fantastic or gothic forms. The texts express the passage from the pagan culture to the catholic civilization, and they are all related to the Pygmalion's myth and the theme of the living statue

Abstract:
Applying basic linguistic theory, a grammatical analysis of Gothic verbs formed with the previously underdescribed quasi-prefix (or preverb) miþ- shows that it forms what could be called an atypical type of applicative, though in two cases it seems instead to mark verbal congruence to an adverbial. Of the possible meanings of the etymologically identical preposition miþ, the comitative seems most salient for the quasi-prefix. An introduced core argument in these constructions do not behave like a typicaltransitive object, as it cannot be passivised, and so is likely rather an extension E (or indirect object) to the core. An underlying transitive object O remains as is, and can be passivised. The construction is only used when E pertains to the topic of the discourse, either an overlapping or a new topic. It is never a background comment, as is attested with peripheral arguments. The dative case of the introduced E seems to be semantically motivated, it being thecombination—comparable to a complex case marking—of the preposition and the quasi-prefix with the dative case that signals the comitative meaning. This construction is formally unrestrained, being applied to intransitive, ambitransitive, and transitive verbs, either with or without vowel gradation. In most cases the introduced E has a human referent, but it can also be a concrete object or an abstract. It cannot be inferred from this investigation whether Gothic allowed more than one applicative construction to be applied to the same verb. It would seem there are indications that this construction might have been a relatively new and developing construction in Gothic. In the verbal template, miþ- occupies the outermost position, in itself an indication of late grammaticalization. The one extant exception to this position could indicate an uncertainty of the translator regarding as to which its proper place was. The two instances with both miþ- and a comitative adverbial suggest—unless an artifact of translation—a possible development from peripheral argument to an atypical E-introducing applicative via verbal congruence.

Abstract:
The aim of this report was to investigate if the number and distribution of sea holly (Eryngium maritimum) on the island of Gotska Sandön in the Baltic sea north of Gotland have, and to explore if there is a link between change in plant habitat and change in number of sea holly individuals on the island. To do so a plant inventory was made in 2021 and compared to a previous inventory that was done in 2009. The number of individuals was counted and the habitat which they grey in was noted. Moreover, the presence of japanese rose (Rosa rugosa), and the expansion of scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) was also noted in each locality where sea holly was found. The number of individuals of sea holly on Gotska Sandön went from 9353 in 2009 to 8310 in 2021, mainly becuase of fewer individuals in the largest locality of sea holly on the island. This is probably due to an increase in the proportion of individuals growing on the wooded dunes compared to 2009 and an expansion of japanese rose in the locality. The localities where no scots pine or japanese rose grew in the grey- and white dunes the individuals of sea holly stayed the same or increased in numbers. Despite this, no link could be found between the change in sea holly individual numbers and what plan habitat they grew on Gotska Sandön 2021.

Abstract:
This bachelor thesis discusses the concept of genre and the comic Gothic. It is an attempt to demonstrate the conflicts rooted in "genre" by discussing several scholars, such as Alistair Fowler and Mattias Fyhr with their works Kinds of Literature and De mörka labyrinterna respectively, and then problematise the "Gothic" as a genre and as a concept. Thus Avril Horner’s and Sue Zlosnik’s work Gothic and the Comic Turn is consulted through the discussion. The questions I ask are the following: What is a literary genre? How is the comic Gothic described by the researchers, and how does comic Gothic work in A. Lee Martinez’ novel Gil’s All Fright Diner (2005)? How can one use these questions in the classroom? The used methods in the thesis are genre analysis and close reading. I conclude that genre is a way to understand the relationship between a literary work and various conventions, such as environment and its contemporaries. Genre is also a tool for the reader to understand the traditions, history and other works the read text is related to. The comic inside the Gothic may appear and is as natural to the genre as horror and terror, since the Gothic is always close to self-parody. This can even be observed in the first Gothic novel, Horace Walpole’s Castle of Otranto (1764). Furthermore, Gil’s All Fright Diner uses both the repertoire of classic Gothic and Horner’s and Zlosnik’s findings of the comic turn in the Gothic. Finally, the question regarding the definition of literary genre can be used in the classroom to widen students’ views on both genre itself and the prose they read. The comic Gothic can be used as an example on how genre can appear in different modes. Gil’s All Fright Diner is a thankful text for classroom readings due to its comic and gothic nature, and its contemporary language, themes and styles can make it relatable to students. There is therefore a potential in the concept of genre and the comic Gothic as subjects of discussion in the classroom.

[Material:] Uppsatsen analyserar Gun-Britt Sundströms svensköversättning av Charlotte Brontës roman Jane Eyre (1999) och två filmatiseringar från år 1997 och 2011.[Syfte:] Att studera och jämföra vilka gotiska grepp som används i romanen Jane Eyre och filmatiseringarna från 1997 och 2011, och vilka gotiska effekter som dominerar samt om effekterna påverkas när texten blir film?[Teori/Metod:] Uppsatsen utgår ifrån valda gotiska begrepp som: det sublima, terror, horror och spänning (suspense).[Resultat:] Analysens resultat visade att samtliga valda gotiska begrepp och dess effekter finns i samtliga verk. Det sublima och terror är de effekter som visade sig dominera i romanen och filmatiseringarna. Avslutningsvis visade det sig att de gotiska effekterna minskade på grund av filmatiseringarnas komprimerade handling.

Ridefinizione del tema delle origini dei Goti secondo il recente dibattito e indagine storico-prosopografica basata su fonti narrative, documentarie, archeologiche ed epigrafiche sulla fisionomia identitaria e sociale degli Ostrogoti insediati in Italia e sopravvissuti nel periodo successivo alla Guerra Greco-Gotica (dalla seconda metà del VI sec. d.C..), con particolare attenzione alle aree di dominio bizantino. Il lascito della loro memoria etnica, storica e istituzionale nel Regnum longobardo e in alcune fonti narrative italiane medievali.
Redefinition of the Goths-origins them in the recent debate, and historical -prosopographical research based on narrative, documentary, archaeological and epigraphic sources about the identity and social make-up of living and surviving Ostrogoths in Italy after the Greek-Gothic War (from 2nd half of VIth century), particularly for the areas under Byzantine rule. Syftet med denna uppsats är att studera hur texten i Gutasagan förhåller sig till den på runstenen vid Röks kyrka, särskilt i fråga om syntax och ljud- och i viss mån formsystem. Tanken är att försöka utröna om, och i så fall i vilken mån, Gutasagan i grunden speglar samma språk som det som fanns i Östergötland på 800-talet samt huruvida dessa två texter i sin tur kan tänkas uppvisa avvikelser från språket i andra delar av landet. Med tanke på götarnas och gutarnas förmodade samband med goterna jämförs texterna även i viss mån med gotiskan.

Abstract:
Gothic literature has a tradition of dealing with dark subjects, themes and motifs, as well as depicting fear in different shapes and forms. Dani Cavallaro describes dark fiction in terms of the "aesthetic of the unwelcome". The philosopher Edmund Burke separates the beautiful from the sublime and writes that everything that is capable of producing a terror of pain and death is a source of the sublime. In her essay "On the Supernatural in Poetry", Ann Radcliffe draws a clear line between the concepts of terror and horror and distinguished them as fundamentally different. In this essay, I define the terms horror and terror by following up the research surrounding Radcliffes statement. I begin with the concept of terror that Burke and other writers define as an elevated and positive feeling, then move on to account for the discussion surrounding Matthew Lewis' novel The Monk. It was considered pornographic, lewd and outright dangerous in its obscenity with blatant depictions of violence, gore and sex. Since Radcliffe and Lewis were contemporary I reckon that it is profitable to explore this tension further in my essay. From Radcliffe and Lewis I find out how the concepts of terror and horror have developed with time and how modern theorists conceive this distinction.

Skönlitteratur har ofta framställts som en väg till att undervisa om värdegrunden i skolan.  Ett möjligt problem är läroplanens övergripande och vaga formuleringar kring att skönlitteratur till exempel ska ge elever ”förutsättningar att utveckla […] den egna identiteten” utan att detta specificeras. Läromedelsstudien ökar kunskapen om den litteraturkanon som finns tillgänglig för undervisningen vilken behandlar svåra värdegrundsfrågor genom användandet och tillämpandet av skräcklitteraturens teman som analysverktyg. Syftet är att visa att skräcklitteraturens teman kan användas på den litterära kanon som behandlas i läromedlen för att lyfta fram värdegrunden. Den frågeställning jag har valt att utgå ifrån är; vilka teman återfinns i gotisk litteratur som även återfinns i fyra litterära verk för barn? Hur förmedlas de teman i de verken? I läromedelsstudien har metoden tematisk innehållsanalys använts för att undersöka läromedlens behandlande av skräcklitterturens teman för att bistå de frågor värdegrundsundervisningen ska behandla. Resultatet har visat att skräcklitteraturens teman är ett sätt att belysa värdegrundsfrågor som värdegrundsundervisningen ska ta upp i klassrummet när de teman appliceras på skönlitteratur som tillhör grundskolans kanon. De frågor som värdegrundsundervisningen tar upp vilka är skräcklitteraturens teman är obehagligheter som tillhör de sublima känslor som subjektiva värdar tar upp som olösbarhet, högre ordning, förfall, undergång och labyrintiska egenskaper.

Uppsatsen har undersökt de gotiska verbalprefixen med utgångspunkt i att de ingår i ett system, i vilket prefixen hör hemma på olika positioner före verbets stam. Syftet har varit att fastställa, om någon av dessa positioner har varit avsedd för prefix bärande särdraget State or Change of State, som inom det teoretiska ramverket Lexical Template Morphology antas bära tre variabler. Materialet har bestått av belagda kombinationer av preverbala element, samtliga påträffade förekomster av verb på miþ- och dis-, samt stickprov av verb på ana- och us-. Genom en i huvudsak morfologisk analys har fem preverbala positioner i en ordbildningsmall föreslagits, här från det yttersta till det innersta kallade P5–P1. Den semantiska undersökningen visar att P5–P3 markerar medfölje, centrum-periferi-orientering respektive polaritet. För prefix hörande till P2–P1 har de excerperade satserna med dis-, ana- och us- analyserats med avseende på de semantiska rollerna figur och grund. Prefixet dis- har kunnat ges en ny definition, vilken förklarar 31 av dess 32 förekomster. Undersökningen visar, att de tre variablerna i State or Change of State kan vara fördelade över P2–P1, samt att rollerna figur och grund är av betydelse i sökandet efter de gotiska verbalprefixens funktioner.

Abstract:
This essay is a reading of Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel Rebecca from a queer theoretical perspective. The analysis discusses the fluidity of the character Rebecca, who despite being dead haunts almost every page. She embodies both masculine and feminine traits and is suggested to have had a sexual relationship with her housekeeper. Furthermore, this same-sex desire plays an important part in the sexual awakening of the novel’s young protagonist, who develops an obsession with Rebecca. The essay also looks at Manderley, the gothic estate where most of the plot takes place. Manderley is a place for both heteronormative oppression and transgression. Rebecca is a modern gothic novel and the gothic will therefore be an important part of the analysis.

The topic of this thesis is the gothic fiction of Selma Lagerlöf. Its primary purpose is to investigate how Lagerlöf's work can be understood in relation to the gothic genre; what particular themes, motifs and formal aspects appear when making this connection and how they can be interpreted, as well as which literary and cultural contexts become relevant. The study is based on close readings of six short stories that, in comparison, appear to be some of the most gloomy and horrific in her production: "Karln. En julsägen" (1891), "De fågelfrie", "Stenkumlet", "Riddardottern och havsmannen" (1892), "Spökhanden" (1898) and "Frid på jorden" (1917). The gothic was an important feature of the literature of the last decade of the nineteenth century, when Lagerlöf made her debut. Therefore one of the main purposes of this study is to highlight her as one of the key writers of gothic fiction in Sweden by the time. In this context the gothic might be considered as closely related to the currents of decadence and fin-de-siècle. However, the gothic continued to be an important element throughout Lagerlöf's production, and this is illustrated by the inclusion of a story from a later period among the primary sources. The gothic genre can be defined by certain themes and motifs, but also by its narrative strategies. The analyses of the six stories show how themes and composition are used to create an atmosphere of fear and darkness, but also, more importantly, to create a sense of ambiguity. The study also discusses the relationship between the gothic and the fantastic and special attention is paid to aspects such as the hesitation concerning how to interpret the supernatural, as well as the fragmentary bodies and psyches of the stories. The main themes of the six stories can be summarized as dealing with the haunting and return of the past, as well as the fear associated with the transgression of limits - between fantasy and reality, the civilized and the primitive, life and death and self and other. Central to the argument in this study is das Unheimliche - the uncanny - a concept that links a certain kind of fear to uncertainty, doubles, ghostliness and haunting. Sigmund Freud has described it as a paradox, as something terrifyingly strange and yet familiar at the same time. The gothic reproduces the experience of reality expressed by this concept - a sense that the self is the source of horror and that identity is something highly unstable.

Syftet med min uppsats är att undersöka förhållandet mellan fyra av den kanadensiske regissören David Cronenbergs filmer och den gotiska traditionen. De filmer jag valt att behandla är Shivers (1974), Rabid (1976), The Brood (1979) och Dead Ringers (1988). Den gotiska traditionen utmärks bland annat av en fokusering på kroppsligt baserad skräck. Skräck med utgångspunkt i kroppen återfinns även i Cronenbergs filmer. Vid en närmare studie av dessa filmer har jag dock funnit att de även innehåller element av det som feministiskt inriktade forskare kallat familjegotik – gotiska representationer av familjen.

O presente relatório de estágio surge como término educativo do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Veterinária na Universidade de Évora, tendo como base o estágio curricular de domínio fundamental na Clínica Veterinaria Exotics (Barcelona), na área de clínica de animais exóticos e silvestres, sob a orientação do Doutor Helder Cortes e do Dr. Xavier Valls. A Gota é a segunda doença metabólica mais observada em Reptilia caracterizada pela acumulação anormal de ácido úrico (tofos), em órgãos internos e/ou nas articulações. O tratamento assenta em três princípios: diminuir o nível de ácido úrico; promover a excreção de uratos e gerenciar crises agudas de gota articular. Existem novas moléculas a serem estudadas e já disponíveis no mercado para medicina humana as quais têm potencial para o uso em herpetologia, no entanto, são necessários estudos sobre a sua acção, dosagem e eficácia nas diferentes espécies da classe Reptilia; ABSTRACT: The following stage’report appears as an educational terminus of the Master in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Évora, based on the fundamental curricular internship that took place at the Clínica Veterinária Exotics (Barcelona), in the clinical area of exotic and wild animals, under the mentorship of Dr. Helder Cortes and of Dr. Xavier Valls. Gout is the second most frequently metabolic disease observed in Reptilia characterized by an abnormal accumulation of uric acid (tophi) in internal organs and / or joint pain. The treatment has three fronts: decrease the level of uric acid; promote urate excretion and manage acute attacks of articular gout. There are new molecules being studied and already on the market for human medicine, which have potential for use in herpetology, however, studies are needed on its action, dosage and effectiveness in different species of the Reptilia class.

In this essay, I make a queer feminist analysis of Mats Strandberg’s and Sara Bergmark Elfgren’s teenage novel ”Cirkeln”, which is about six teenage girls who learn that they are witches with a mission to save the world from demons. Using Judith Butler's theories, I examine the norms of sex/gender, ethnicity, class and sexuality found in the text and how these standards are created. I also analyze whether, and if so how, these standards may change when the magical elements enter the text. I also discuss the fact that older Gothic novels with magical elements often have been regarded as queer through history.

This work is a study about the writing carried out in the Historia Gothica which was finished in 1243 by Rodrigo Jimenez de Rada, the Toledano’s archbishop. In this text, Rodrigo relates the history of Hispania, from the Flood biblical times until his time. Even if the Historia Gothica is a deeply political text that combines various views – the definition of the relations between kingship and nobility, the conception of the Hispanic territory, as well as the defence of the Toledano’s Church primacy – no one can forget that this text is first of all a textual construction. Through a literary approach, our intention is thus to emphasize and analyse the narrative, stylistic and discursive mechanisms that underlie the text. The first part of the study is dedicated to the text sources, to Rodrigo’s way of quoting them and rewriting them with thoughtfulness. The second part shows the methods used to build the text, considering its paratext, its narrative architecture and its essential elements

I den här studien analyseras John Ajvide Lindqvists verk Låt den rätte komma in ur ett genreteoretiskt perspektiv. Uppsatsens fokus ligger i hur verket kan kopplas till vampyrgenrens olika konventioner, men även i hur dessa konventioner bryts. Verket använder sig av ett antal motiv och teman som också kan kopplas med vampyrgenren. Vissa teman är inte lika tydliga i jämförelse med annan vampyrlitteratur, så som det kristna motivet, samtidigt som andra motiv tar nya former, exempelvis sexualitet och transformation. Låt den rätte komma in visar även en form av ambivalens mot godhet och ondska, och även mellan människor och monster, vilket kan kopplas med den kalla världen karaktärerna i Blackeberg lever i.

Tesis para optar al grado de Doctor en Historia
En esta investigación se exploran las características de la mortalidad infantil en Santiago durante una fase histórica –segunda mitad del siglo XIX y los inicios del XX– en que los indicadores demográficos alcanzaron cifras altísimas transformándose en un problema médico y político. La metodología aplicada disecciona el fenómeno reconociendo múltiples ámbitos derivados: cultural, político-institucional y médico-científico. Cada uno de ellos construye problemáticas y las propuestas para abordarlos. Se demuestra cuantitativamente el comportamiento de la población infantil, recurriendo a fuentes primarias –desde la medicina, la prensa, la justicia y el Registro Civil– y bibliografía. La perspectiva del trabajo sostiene una panorámica de la infraestructura de la capital, la alimentación de los infantes y el diagnóstico de los médicos. También analizamos las relaciones de la mortalidad en la niñez a través del delito de infanticidio y el régimen de internación en la Casa de Huérfanos. Asimismo, tratamos las dificultades de las autoridades por encontrar soluciones; el contexto material y los inicios de un conocimiento sobre la salud de los niños (los albores de la pediatría y la inauguración del Hospital de Niños).

Wie kein anderer Text des englischen Romanciers und Essayisten John Fowles ist 'The Ebony Tower' von Gemälden geprägt. Die Novelle verweist auf ihren 104 Seiten auf über vierzig Maler sowie auf die verschiedensten Maltechniken und Kunstrichtungen. Von zentraler Bedeutung ist hierbei die Stilrichtung der Internationalen Gotik, die durch Gemälde von Antonio Pisano (1395-1455), genannt Pisanello, sowie von Paolo di Dono (1397-1475), genannt Uccello, vertreten ist. Henry Breasley, weltberühmter Maler, magus in bezug auf den Leser sowie den Novizen und 'malenden Theoretiker' David Williams und in gewisser Weise auch Sprachrohr von Fowles, bezieht sich diskursiv sowie piktural, beispielsweise in seiner sehr erfolgreichen 'last-period series', gleich mehrfach implizit und explizit auf die beiden Italiener. Diesen kommt somit eine Schlüsselstellung nicht nur für die Interpretation von Breasleys Bildern, sondern auch für die von Fowles in 'The Ebony Tower' propagierte Kunst- und Lebensauffassung zu.

Resumo: A igreja abacial de Saint-Denis, situada nos arredores de Paris, figura entre os grandes monumentos da Idade Média européia. As fontes medievais abundam em referências à sua proeminência, designando-a como a ¿mãe das igrejas francesas¿. Por muitos séculos, ela foi o núcleo da prestigiosa abadia real, estatuto que a isentava de qualquer dominação feudal ou eclesiástica, estando sujeita apenas ao rei. No que respeita à história da arte, pode-se dizer que o período mais significativo na trajetória da igreja abacial é o da reforma promovida pelo abade Suger, realizada entre 1137 e 1144. Suger promoveu uma reformulação completa na parte ocidental (nártex) e na cabeceira (o coro e a cripta), transformando completamente o antigo edifício, da época carolíngia (século VIII). O nártex foi ampliado e ganhou elementos novos, como a rosácea na fachada, três portais de entrada e as estátuas-coluna, hoje desaparecidas, que flanqueavam o portal central. No coro, a mudança foi ainda mais intensa: a pequena abside carolíngia foi substituída por uma estrutura de grandes dimensões, equipada com sete capelas radiantes. A grande novidade ficava por conta dos vitrais que recobriam as janelas desses oratórios, os quais permitiam à luz do dia espalhar-se por todo o coro, desobstruído das grossas paredes. As mudanças estruturais e a nova concepção do espaço tornavam o edifício bastante distinto, quando comparado às construções românicas da época; a Saint-Denis de Suger é vista pelos estudiosos da arte medieval como um protótipo, onde a arquitetura gótica encontrou sua primeira definição, irradiando-se, nos séculos seguintes, para toda a Europa. Esta dissertação de Mestrado apresenta a tradução de um dos textos capitais para a compreensão das realizações de Suger em Saint-Denis, o De Consecratione Ecclesiae Sancti Dionysii, acompanhado de notas explicativas e dois textos críticos: um sobre o lugar de Suger na historiografia da arte medieval e outro acerca das relações entre teologia e ¿estética¿ no templo edificado pelo abade
Abstract: The abbey church of Saint-Denis, situated at the vicinity of Paris, is one of the most proeminent of the European Middle Ages. Medieval sources have a great number of references to its importance, naming it as the ¿mother of the French churches¿. For many centuries, the abbey church was the core of the prestigious royal abbey, and its status has made it free of any feudal or ecclesiastical domination and only subject to the king himself. To art historians, the most significative moment in the history of the church is the great reform promoted by abbot Suger (1122-1151) during the years 1137-1144. Suger has achieved a complete reformulation in the western sector (the narthex) and the chevet (the choir and the crypt), transforming the old carolingian building (erected at the 8th century). The narthex was enlarged and added of three new portals and statue-columns (disappeared) that flanked the central portal. In the choir, the changes were still more significant: the little carolingian apse was removed and, at its place, a new and great structure was constructed, equipped with seven radiant chappels. But one of the most significant innovations present in Suger¿s new building were the stained glass windows, the great vitraux that let the daylight spread over the choir. One can say that the structural changes and the new conception of the ecclesiatical space gave the church of Suger a new form, quiet different from other romanic sanctuaries of its time. This new building erected under Suger¿s administration is considered by the scholars as the beginning of Gothic architecture, which should spread thereafter all over Europe. This Ms. Dissertation offers a translation (to portuguese) of Suger¿s little book De Consecratione Ecclesiae Sancti Dionysii, with explicative notes and two analytical texts: the former is about the place of Suger at the medieval art historiography and the latter is about the relations between the theology and the ¿aesthetics¿ in the old Saint-Denis abbot¿s temple

Abstract:
Denna uppsats innehåller en komparativ studie kring karaktäriseringen av den fiktiva figuren Madeleine Usher i Edgar Allan Poes 1800-tals novell "The Fall of the House of Usher" och Bethany Griffins re-telling av novellen i sin skräckroman The Fall, publicerad 2014. Syftet är att synliggöra hur Madeleine porträtteras och karaktäriseras ur ett genuskritiskt perspektiv med hjälp av bland annat Yvonne Hirdmans teori om genussystem och genuskontrakt, samt Maria Nikolajevas narratologiska teori om konvenansen kring litterärt kön. Utifrån denna analys ämnar jag tolka effekterna av Madeleine Ushers skilda subjektspositionering i verken, samt vilken kritik Griffins re-telling därigenom framför.
