Abstract:
Global Positioning System (GPS) is based on a satellite system. Much work has been carried out on a non-satellite positioning systems using the existing Global System of Mobile Communications (GSM) infrastructure. This leads to a hybrid GPS/GSM positioning systems in the paper. We purpose to adopt GSM for positioning via an integrated switch design with fuzzy logic, if GPS lose efficacy. This induces four main research features in this paper. (1) Designs with optimal-based Fourier analyzer to achieve error of GPS decrease is presented. (2) New applications of fuzzy set theory are presented to solve the problem of GPS accuracy. (3) An integrated switch of fuzzy logic is designed for selecting GPS or GSM positioning systems. (4) Discussions on various GSM positioning methods are adopted with different error and location parameters of environment.

Straipsnyje analizuojamas taškų koordinačių nustatymo urbanizuotose teritorijose bei pastatų viduje metodas, taikant GPS ir GSM hibridines sistemas. Šiuo metodu taškų koordinatės nustatomos sudarant trilateracijos tinklą, pradiniais taškais laikant GPS metodu koordinuotas GSM tinklo stotis. Atstumui tarp GSM stočių ir mobiliojo GSM imtuvo gali būti randami pagal GSM signalų amplitudę bei sklidimo trukmę. Taškų erdvinėms koordinatėms skaičiuoti taikomas linijines sankirtos metodas, sprendžiant mažiausiųjų kvadratų metodu linearizuotų parametrinių lygčių sistema. Nustatomų taškų koordinatėms tikslinti galima taikyti iteracinį filtrą. Nagrinėjamas nustatytų taškų koordinačių tikslumas.

Abstract:
<p>Global positioning system (GPS) tracker is an innovative technology that is able to track the position of vehicle using global satellite system. In this paper, vehicle tracker system design that is derived from global positioning system and global system for mobile communication (GSM) interface with the use of Arduino Uno board as platform is proposed and presented. Technology in Arduino, GSM, and GPS is studied.GPS module receives the coordinates from the satellite. The GPS coordinates are sent to users in the form of SMS through SIM900A GSM module. By using Google Maps, the exact location of the vehicle can be located. Arduino microcontroller is the gateway to all GPS and GSM hardware and software communication in the system. The design represents that GSM and GPS interface with the use of Arduino Uno board as platform can really make vehicle tracking more efficient and convenient since it can work in any weather conditions and provide real-time location of objects. Automatic display of the coordinate’s geographical location in a map should be integrated in future design.</p>

Abstract:
The leading-edge vehicle tracking and scanning system based on embedded board is intended and executed to observe any vehicle from different locations. Every year, many numbers of vehicles are stolen. To prohibit thievery, a phenomenal type of negator is preowned, like padlock, disk break lock and more which is a defensive motion, but it is not safe for all designs. The main impartial is to initiate a control entity that shows the locale spot of a vehicle proving by global position system (GPS) to find the position. Here, global system for mobile (GSM) is accepting for communicating with the vehicle that easily finding a steal. The entity is built for trying out the mastery of the locale spot that transmits to the user when the motion is in exciting direction and stable in the city and some other areas. This whole entity is built by bringing together a Raspberry Pi with GPS, general packetradio service (GPRS), and GSM. The preferred entity makes better use of unique automation that based on the Raspberry Pi. This entity works on the GPS and GSM SIM 900A modules which consists all the three things for communication. GPS and GPRS circulate the chasing information to the server to transmit the message to the mobile number which is saved in this sector for communicating through GSM. This preferred entity also acquires the traveler’s protection by testing liquefied petroleum gas effused gas sensor MQ135 and temperature DS18B20 sensor.

Abstract:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) has become one of the state-of-the-art location systems that offers reliable mobile terminal (MT) location estimates. However, there exist situations where GPS is not available, for example, when the MT is used indoors or when the MT is located close to high buildings. In these scenarios, a promising approach is to combine the GPS-measured values with measured values from the Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM), which is known as hybrid localization method. In this paper, three nonlinear filters, namely, an extended Kalman filter, a Rao-Blackwellized unscented Kalman filter, and a modified version of the recently proposed cubature Kalman filter, are proposed that combine pseudoranges from GPS with timing advance and received signal strengths from GSM. The three filters are compared with each other in terms of performance and computational complexity. Posterior Cramér-Rao lower bounds are evaluated in order to assess the theoretical performance. Furthermore, it is investigated how additional GPS reference time information available from GSM influences the performance of the hybrid localization method. Simulation and experimental results show that the proposed hybrid method outperforms the GSM method.

Abstract:
Thesis (M. Eng.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, 2006.
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 57-59).
This thesis addresses the tasks of place discovery and place recognition - learning and recognizing places significant to a user - by analyzing GPS location and GSM cell tower data collected from the user's mobile phone. Location provides valuable context into the user's environment, and place-discovery and recognition algorithms enable human-centric systems to communicate with the user in human terms. In this thesis, we introduce a novel two-phased approach to place-discovery and recognition that combines the advantages of GPS and GSM cell data. We design and implement a system that produces a compact travel summary from the user's daily GPS logs. We then use computational geometry to investigate the aspect ratios of GSM cell coverage polygons as an optimization to place recognition. Finally, we conclude by presenting a one-month empirical study to demonstrate the effectiveness of our two-phased approach, and identify a set of anomalies in our experiment that can direct further development of place-discovery systems.

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 20-23, 2003 / Riviera Hotel and Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada
This paper presents the design and implementation of a large fleet management system, which is a true convergence solution of GPS, web-based GIS, GSM, GPRS and Internet technologies. The Short Message Service of the GSM is used to substitute the GPRS where GPRS is not available. A protocol stack including TCP/IP and PPP is implemented in vehicle unit to transmit data via Internet. A communication gateway is designed to distribute the location and control messages. The system tests confirm that the proposed scheme can perform a reliable management service for large fleets at low operating and maintaining costs.

Abstract:

This report studies a low cost hardware platform for Fleet Management Services, FMS. The platform manages vehicle data, positioning and wireless communication. The core of the platform is a new kind of ‘intelligent’ GSM modem, called a GSM module. A GSM module is basically a stripped down mobile phone that allows embedded third party application code and has an IP-stack. The report reviews the modules available on the market today and presents experiences from the implementation of a prototype based on the Aplicom A12 module. The main conclusion is that the concept is feasible though the modules' limited performance must be considered in the design.
