In many combined GPS/cellular radio receivers, the cellular radio segment is not used to aid the positioning process. Recently proposed Assisted-GPS systems use the communications channel to improve receiver time-to-first-fix and the GPS tracking sensitivity. However, the cellular radio signals can also be used for locating the receiver. Studies using the GSM mobile communication system have shown positional accuracy comparable to that of SA-degraded GPS. To achieve maximum performance (accuracy, availability, integrity and reliability), both sources of positioning information, GPS and cellular, should be regarded as sensor inputs to an integrated navigation system. In this way the benefits of both systems can be fully exploited to produce an optimal navigation solution.

This paper outlines the development of an Internet of Things (IoT)-based device that comprises an Arduino UNO R3 microcontroller, an accelerometer sensor, a GPS module, and a GSM module. Real-time information about the accident&#39;s location, time, and date are sent using GPS and communicated to the emergency service provider through GSM. Upon receiving this crucial information, the emergency service provider can promptly take appropriate action, thereby potentially saving numerous lives affected by the accident.

This master’s thesis is focused on problems of monitoring GSM network using a mobile phone. Problems are analyzed on a theoretic basis with a description of available network parameters. Then the thesis offers a description of existing application environments providing a user with given data about the network. The main part of this work describes a development of application compiling queue data from mobile network and GPS, and creates output data illustrating signal strength in selected areas. The work also includes extensive measuring in select areas together with an evaluation of the processed data.

Location provides valuable context into the user's environment, and place-discovery and recognition algorithms enable human-centric systems to communicate with the user in human terms. In this thesis, we introduce a novel two-phased approach to place-discovery and recognition that combines the advantages of GPS and GSM cell data. We design and implement a system that produces a compact travel summary from the user's daily GPS logs. We then use computational geometry to investigate the aspect ratios of GSM cell coverage polygons as an optimization to place recognition. Finally, we conclude by presenting a one-month empirical study to demonstrate the effectiveness of our two-phased approach, and identify a set of anomalies in our experiment that can direct further development of place-discovery systems.<br>by Xiao Yu.<br>M.Eng.

The Short Message Service of the GSM is used to substitute the GPRS where GPRS is not available. A protocol stack including TCP/IP and PPP is implemented in vehicle unit to transmit data via Internet. A communication gateway is designed to distribute the location and control messages. The system tests confirm that the proposed scheme can perform a reliable management service for large fleets at low operating and maintaining costs.

<p>This report studies a low cost hardware platform for Fleet Management Services, FMS. The platform manages vehicle data, positioning and wireless communication. The core of the platform is a new kind of ‘intelligent’ GSM modem, called a GSM module. A GSM module is basically a stripped down mobile phone that allows embedded third party application code and has an IP-stack. The report reviews the modules available on the market today and presents experiences from the implementation of a prototype based on the Aplicom A12 module. The main conclusion is that the concept is feasible though the modules' limited performance must be considered in the design.</p>

Abstract:
The paper considers the typical technical features of GPS-tracking systems and their development, as well as an analysis of existing solutions to the problem. Mathematical models for the operation of hardware and software of this complex have been created. An adaptive user interface has been developed that allows you to use this complex from a smartphone or personal computer. Methods for displaying the distance traveled by a moving object on an electronic map have been developed. Atmega162-16PU microcontroller software for GSM module and GPS receiver control has been developed. A method of data transfer from a GPS tracker to a web server has been developed. Two valid experimental samples of GPS-trackers were made and tested in uncertain conditions. The GPS-tracking software and hardware can be used to monitor the movement of moving objects that are within the coverage of GSM cellular networks.

Abstract:
The main objective of the proposed research was to study IQD1's mechanism of action and elucidate its role in plant protection. Preliminary experiments suggest that IQD1 binds CaM in a Ca²⁺-dependent manner and functions in general defense responses. We propose to identify proteins and genes that interact with IQD1, which may provide some clues to its mechanism of action. We also plan to dissect IQD1's integration in defense pathways and to study and modulate its binding affinity to CaM in order to enhance crop resistance. Our specific objectives were: (1) Analysis of IQD1's CaM-binding properties; (2) Identification of IQD1 targets;(3) Dissection of IQD1 integration into defense signaling pathways. Analysis of IQD1's CaM-binding properties defined four potential classes of sequences that should affect CaM binding: one is predicted to raise the affinity for Ca²⁺-dependent interaction but have no effect on Ca²⁺-independent binding; a second is predicted to act like the first mutation but eliminate Ca²⁺-independent binding; a third has no predicted effect on Ca²⁺-dependent binding but eliminates Ca²⁺-independent binding; and the fourth is predicted to eliminate or greatly reduce both Ca²⁺-dependent and Ca²⁺-independent binding. Following yeast two hybrid analysis we found that IQD1 interact with AtSR1 (Arabidopsis thalianaSIGNALRESPONSIVE1), a calcium/calmodulin-binding transcription factor, which has been shown to play an important role in biotic and abiotic stresses. We tested IQD1 interaction with both N-terminal or C-terminal half of SR1. These studies have uncovered that only the N-terminal half of the SR1 interacts with the IQD1. Since IQD1 has an important role in herbivory, its interaction with SR1 suggests that it might also be involved in plant responses to insect herbivory. Since AtSR1, like IQD1, is a calmodulin-binding protein and the mutant showed increased sensitivity to a herbivore, we analyzed WT, Atsr1 and the complemented line for the levels of GS to determine if the increased susceptibility of Atsr1 plants to T. ni feeding is associated with altered GS content. In general, Atsr1 showed a significant reduction in both aliphatic and aromatic GS levels as compared to WT. In order to study IQD1's molecular basis integration into hormone-signaling pathways we tested the epistatic relationships between IQD1 and hormone-signaling mutants. For that purpose we construct double mutants between IQD1ᴼXᴾ and mutants defective in plant-hormone signaling and GS accumulation. Epitasis with SA mutant NahG and npr1-1 and JA mutant jar1-1 suggested IQD1 function is dependent on both JA and SA as indicated by B. cinerea infection assays. We also verified the glucosinolate content in the crosses siblings and found that aliphatic GSL content is reduced in the double transgenic plants NahG:IQD1ᴼXᴾ as compare to parental lines while the aliphatic GSL content in the npr1-1:IQD1ᴼXᴾ and jar1-1: IQD1ᴼXᴾ double mutants was intimidated to the parental lines. This suggests that GSL content dependency on SA is downstream to IQD1. As a whole, this project should contribute to the development of new defense strategies that will improve crop protection and reduce yield losses and the amount of pesticides required; these will genuinely benefit farmers, consumers and the environment.

The approval of Decisions 599 and 600 on the Harmonization of Substantial and Procedural Aspects of Value Added Taxes and the Harmonization of Excise Type Taxes (VAT and selective taxes) by the Commission of the Andean Community is a notable victory for the Andean integration process and sets a precedent in the developing world. The Decisions amount to an agreement on how to design national laws on a modern and administratively coordinated VAT, as well as joint rules on excise taxes. These accords sprang from the political will of the Andean authorities working in this field, the countries¿ technical capacities, and the catalyzing role played by the political authority of the Andean Community¿s General Secretariat (GS), which received technical support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). Representatives of the five member countries¿ Finance Ministries and Taxation Directorates participated actively and enthusiastically in these efforts. The process began with a background study commissioned using funds from an IDB regional technical cooperation project, followed by three negotiating rounds and eight meetings of experts and officials organized by the GS (With the financial and technical support of the IDB through the Special Initiative on Trade and Integration).

Survey vehicles, operating at traffic-speed, are deployed across the road network to assess the condition of road pavements. These apply high-quality (and high cost) equipment to measure condition. However, significant progress has been made in the development of low-cost sensors and data collection units that may have potential for application in highways. This project has aimed to understand the capabilities of this emerging technology. The project explores the technologies and combines a Raspberry-Pi based Data Acquisition System, compact camera, GPS, inertial measurement system, Wifi and 4G GSM comms and a low-cost Solid State LiDAR into a prototype device. The total cost is a few hundred pounds. Trials characterise the prototype system. Although the solid-state LiDAR sensors are not found to be robust in this application, the remaining sensors show strong potential for use in road condition assessment. A wider trial of the prototype system in a potential application – the measurement of roughness (IRI) on developing world road networks – was carried out in El Salvador. The prototype shows comparable performance with alternatives, combined with higher levels of practicality and capability, and the potential for higher levels of consistency through a common low-cost measurement platform. In the light of this research, it is felt that, following refinements to the prototype, the initial application for the device would be for condition surveys in developing world nations.

Abstract:
For robust pavement design, accurate damage computation is essential, especially for loading scenarios such as truck platoons. Studies have developed a framework to compute pavement distresses as function of lateral position, spacing, and market-penetration level of truck platoons. The established framework uses a robust 3D pavement model, along with the AASHTOWare Mechanistic–Empirical Pavement Design Guidelines (MEPDG) transfer functions to compute pavement distresses. However, transfer functions include high variability and lack physical significance. Therefore, as an improvement to effectively predict permanent deformation, this study utilized a conventional Burger’s model, incorporating a nonlinear power-law dashpot, in lieu of a transfer function. Key components, including stress increments and the Jacobian, were derived for implementation in ABAQUS as a user subroutine. Model parameters were determined through asphalt concrete (AC) flow number and dynamic modulus tests. Using a nonlinear power-law dashpot, the model accurately characterized rutting under varying conditions. The Burger’s model was both verified and validated to check the accuracy of implementation and representative of the actual behavior, respectively. Initially developed in 1D domain, the validated Burger’s model was integrated into the robust 3D finite element (FE) pavement model to predict permanent deformation. A new load-pass approach (LPA) enabled reduction in computational domain and cost, along with implementing transient loads more efficiently. The combined integration of the LPA and the Burger’s model into the pavement model effectively captured the rutting progression per loading cycle. Moreover, a graph neural network (GNN) was established to extend the prediction power of the framework, while strategically limiting the FE numerical matrix. The FE model data was transformed into a graph structure, converting FE model components into corresponding graph nodes and edges. The GNN-based pavement simulator (GPS) was developed to model 3D pavement responses, integrating three key components: encoder, processor, and decoder. The GPS model employed two-layer multilayer perceptrons (MLP) for the encoder and decoder, while utilizing graph network (GN) technology for the processor. Validation occurred through two case studies—OneStep and Rollout—with results compared against FE model data as ground truth. Results demonstrated that the GPS model provides an accurate and computationally efficient alternative to traditional 3D pavement FE simulations.
