Full textUAV navigation requires that the position of the vehicle and perhaps the destination to be measured, in flight. The reliability of close accuracy are in most case crucial for a positioning system. DECCA was constructed to measure the phase differences between several broadcasting frequencies, where all origin from one same fundamental frequency and broadcast as multiples of the source frequency. The system had analog meters which indicated the phase differences and with different interference lines corresponding to a certain phase different printed on a map, one could denote a rough position for the receiver. Today’s GPS grants accuracy within a few meter, but with technology as DGPS the precision can extend to a few centimetres. The condition for the precise position is where the GPS-signal are exposed for minimal propagation effects. Thus, the crucial is the receiver’s geographic location. Today GPS is active and used by numerous user around the world, but it is constant under development and improvement. The focal point has been to describe how GPS gets a good accuracy and the difficulties with the long distances between receiver and satellite. A short description over the weakness and strengths in DECCA has been made. And one short compilation over how well DECCA and GPS would perform in a system with multiple broadcast antennas, placed over a limited geographic area.

Full textDenna rapport är en sammanställning av utfört examensarbete åt CreateIT AB i Junsele. Uppgiften var att utreda hur man kan implementera ett system för att ta reda på en mobils position i CreateITs tidredovisningsapplikation.
I rapporten tar vi upp flera teorier för hur en position kan bestämmas, dels GSM-nätets positionsbestämning och dels genom GPS-satelliter. Fördelar och nackdelar med de båda systemen diskuteras i rapporten.
Vi granskar de tjänster och produkter som finns på marknaden våren 2002.
Slutligen sammanfattar vi systemen, produkterna och skriver rekommendationer till företag som vill positionsbestämma sina anställda.

Full textThe study investigates how to design a low-cost, versatile event messaging system using SMS. A typical use case is a fire alarm or intrusion detector when equipped with appropriate sensors. With a GPS receiver connected, the actual position is included in the message, allowing for use as theft alarm in e.g. a car or in mobile home.
Studien undersöker hur man kan konstruera ett billigt, mångsidigt meddelandesystem som använder SMS. Ett exempel på användningsområde är brandlarm eller inbrottslarm med motsvarande sensorer anslutna. Även positionen kan förmedlas med en GPS ansluten, och då finns även möjligheten att använda enheten som stöldlarm för till exempel bil eller husvagn.

Full textDifferent navigation techniques are something that people uses on a daily basis. It has been and still is an important part in the history of mankind, initially navigation was about being able to navigate at sea using the stars, and today many people around the world have some kind of smartphone that can be used as a navigation tool. Indoor positioning is something that has become a hot topic in the last decade and since GPS has bad precision indoors new technologies has been developed to navigate and position objects indoors. Some leading technologies now includes Bluetooth Low Energy beacons and Wi-Fi, where you can position a user indoors using triangulation-techniques. The question still remains, which technique is viable for indoor positioning. This study has been conducted as a combination of two strategies, starting with a comparison study of three different positioning techniques, BLE, Wi-Fi and GPS, to come to a conclusion which positioning technique is suitable for indoor positioning. After the conclusion we evaluated the technique in the form of an experiment in which several factors, mainly the precision, are tested. In this study, BLE beacon were used as the positioning tool because it was easy to implement but also to able to achieve high precision in the right environment. To test the beacons, a light application prototype was developed that had the main purpose of positioning a user in a coordinate system using XY values. By using triangulation to position the user. The study achieved a mean margin of approximately 76 centimeters when five beacons were used in a 4 x 3 meter area. The conclusion was BLE beacons is a suitable tool when it comes to indoor positioning and that there is a lot of difference in precision when using too few or poorly placed beacons.

Full textBojar förankrade till havsbottnen används ofta för att märka ut banan i kappsegling eller andra vattensporter, men kan behöva flyttas flera gånger per dag. För att undvika det tids- och bränslekrävande arbetet av att lyfta och flytta ankarna byggdes och testades en prototyp av en autonomboj som håller sin position med hjälp av elmotorer. Prototypbojen byggdes som en pontonbåt i katamaranutförande med en motor i varje skrov. För att navigera använde den en mottagare för Global Navigation Satellite Systems och en kompass som sensorer. Baserat på information från sensorerna styrde en mikrokontroller bojens kurs och hastighet med proportionella, integrerande och deriverande regulatorer. Prototypen testades och utvärderades med avseende på konstruktionens lämplighet, reglersystemets prestanda och dynamisk positioneringsprecision. Förutom läckande propelleraxelstätningar ansågs den generella designen var lämplig, likaså PID-reglersystemet. Aven om den stillastående GNSS-positionen var tillräckligt exakt, så registrerades inte rörelser mindre än 30 m. Följaktligen kunde bojen bara hålla sig inom 19.8 m från målpositionen i genomsnitt. Prestandan skulle kunna förbättras med en annan GNSS mottagare eller genom att uppgradera till Real Time Kinematics GNSS.

Full textTraffic accidents are a problem in today’s society and new solutions regarding intelligent transportation systems (ITS) are being requested. One solution to such is vehicle-to-vehicle communication (V2V), where safer traffic can be achieved by vehicles transmitting relevant traffic information to surrounding vehicles. In this report, we researched and developed methods for a follow-detection algorithm for V2V communication. The task was to find a solution for follow-detection by using GPS and FM-RDS, with regards to time delay. An algorithm was developed in a simulated environment, to then be implemented in a prototype for measuring traffic. For efficient usage of FM-RDS packets, the transmitted position was compressed and then decompressed at the receiving side. The results of the simulations and traffic tests indicated that it was possible to detect if a vehicle followed another in traffic, by using GPS positioning and FM-RDS with time delay. The accuracy of the algorithm degraded at higher time delays, however there is potential for improvements. Suggestions for improvements of the reconstruction function and the algorithm are discussed in this report.

Full textIn today's information society, concepts like smart cities and IoT (Internet of Things) are hot topics. All imaginable devices should be connected to the internet and "things" should communicate with each other. For smart city visions to be realized, new demands are put on several existing technologies, and new technologies are being developed to replace or supplement the old ones. This report focuses on comparing older technologies with new ones within the areas of positioning and wireless communication. Traditional GPS (Global Positioning System) is compared to Wi-Fi based services and GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) is set against the Sigfox network that is specially developed for IoT applications. A measuring device is constructed by electronics modules and a smartphone to collect data in different geographic areas and environments. From the collected data, results can show how positioning services relate to each other and how coverage can be expected by communication technologies. An indication is also given of how the energy consumption can be expected when using the different technologies. Finally, conclusions are given on how combinations of technologies can be used and what pros and cons arise with the selected combinations. This facilitates component selection in a product development phase.

Full textThis thesis work is intended to analyze whether the municipalities has a need for the new technology of mobile mapping.
Mobile mapping consists of the technologies of laser scanning, photographing and positioning of streets and roads in city environment and in the countryside. When these technologies are operating together a georeferenced three-dimensional image model is created, which has specific coordinates that states its position on the surface of the earth. Thanks to the laser scanning process even measuring can be performed in this model.
The municipal sector consists of many different departments which use visual spatial information. These departments are an interesting target group for this system. Specific departments within the municipal sector, which we considered were the most suitable, have been selected. Individuals within these departments have replied to a questionnaire where several statements were given. The statements are constructed so that the replies that are received as much as possible describe the need for this new technology. In addition to the questionnaire a number of telephone- and in-depth interviews have been done in purpose of creating a basis which is as solid as possible.
The results that have been obtained indicate that there is a rather considerable demand for the technology. The majority of the asked professions have given replies which hint that they would appreciate visual measurable spatial information in accurate and detailed 3D-models. The telephone interviews have pointed in this direction as well.
Since a municipality is organized of a large number of departments which each have a need for the technology, a reference can be made to the expression “many a little makes a mickle”. In other words, the municipal need for the technology is considerable since many different units find their own uses for mobile mapping.
We have after this investigation obtained a result which implies that mobile mapping would be a good investment for the municipal sector.
