Abstract:
Introduction: Graduate is one of the important support in the development of a university. Graduate have a role to assist universities in developing the university into the community through collaboration in academic terms. Since the establishment of the Adventist University of Indonesia (UNAI) to date has resulted in 12 608 qualified graduates, but the problems that exist today data on students graduated from UNAI difficult to find because UNAI not have a special service for containing information about the data the continuation of a career each of graduate that will be created as the relationships that can support the advancement of the quality of the Graduate at Adventist University of Indonesia. Methods: With the difficulty of knowing the whereabouts of graduate, an graduate tracer study system was created using Web-based GPS that aims to make it easier for universities to find out the alumni position and is expected to be able to overcome the problems above. The graduate tracer study system was designed using a website-based system. .The system of Graduate tracer study was designed using a web-based system. The system is easy to use by any user because it is built using the waterfall method as a method of system development, laravel framework for building websites and using the Global Positioning System (GPS) locator that serves Graduate. Results: The end result of this research is to facilitate UNAI system to track and determine the position of the Graduate as well as get information takes on new Graduate pass or long pass which spread to various area Discussion: It is expected that the future can be developed to add features that are useful scholarship to help students who are still studying, and add graphs about graduate information in getting a job.

Abstract:
Tracer study is an approach that allows college institutions to obtain information about possible deficiencies in the educational process and learning process. It can also be the basis for future improvement planning activities. This tracer study research could see the illustration of two sides, namely the graduates’ side as the service user of the education institution and the stakeholder side as the graduate user. This tracer study aimed at getting an overview of the lecture program that had been obtained by the graduates, as well as the quality of graduates produced by the Department of Management. The target of this tracer study was the alumni of Management Department graduates in 2013 - 2015 and the stakeholders in this case were the service users of Management department graduates. The results of this study indicated that the graduates produced by the Management Department had an average waiting time of less than 12 months (1 year) to obtain a job. The types of jobs graduated from Management Department were mostly in the private sector, there was only one person who decided to become an entrepreneur. Most of the graduates earned 1 million rupiah - 3 million rupiah per month as the first income. Most graduates were satisfied with the aspects of learning gained during their study in Management Departments as well as the response about learning experience. Graduates were quite satisfied with the learning experience during the course in Management Department. The graduates complained about inadequate lecture facilities condition. It was certainly a serious significance to be addressed immediately. Most of the users of the graduates (stakeholders) were satisfied with the ability of management department graduates. It was just the aspect of English language skills that were still considered less. In accordance with English language skills, communication skills were also complained by graduate users (stakeholders). Abstract:
Abstract: This paper aims to reveal the relevance (suitability) of graduate education is indicated by job profile (type and place of work), the relevance of work with educational background, benefits of courses programmed in work, advice from graduates to improve graduate competency. In addition, the relevance of education is also shown through the opinions of graduate users about graduate user satisfaction, graduate competency and graduate advice to improve graduate competency. As a result, the suitability of the work with the expectation when studying is also a problem of job satisfaction, some feel that they are satisfied with the work that is now being undertaken. The main consideration of alumni in working is not solely because of salary factors is an interesting finding from this study. This can be seen in graduates who are teachers (education sector) with salaries that are still minimal but in accordance with the scientific field. In general, alumni income ranges from one million to three million per month. This is because they work following the district/city minimum wage (UMK) which ranges from Rp. 1,000,000 - Rp. 3,000,000, although many are still under one million rupiah. Some alumni have worked before graduation, although in general, the alumni of 2014-2016 IAIN Purwokerto worked with a waiting period of 3 months. They are mostly in the education sector. Abstract:
Tracer study is needed to understand how well a university has performed in terms of developing the competencies of its students and in preparing them for the world of work. This study was conducted to determine the employment characteristics and job experiences of the graduates of VSU's graduate degree programs, and their feedback on their educational experiences in the university. Data were gathered by sending online questionnaires to graduates with active email accounts, handing in questionnaires to alumni working in VSU and nearby agencies and institutions, and conducting interviews and focus group discussions with graduates working in some institutions in Bohol. Of the 73 respondents, 78% finished master's degree only at ViSCA/LSU/VSU, while 16% finished both master's and doctorate degrees from the university. Almost all (99%) are employed, 84% have regular or permanent positions, 78% are working in academic institutions/state universities and colleges either as faculty members, researchers, extension workers or administrative staff, 27% occupy supervisory positions, and 64% got promoted after earning their graduate degrees in VSU. A great majority of the respondents (92%) considered the graduate degrees they earned as highly relevant to their current jobs. The top five skills they learned in VSU which they found useful included teaching (78%), communication (69%), critical thinking (63%), problem-solving (55%), and human relation skills (52%). The graduate programs were rated high by the respondents in terms of seven criteria, including relevance of the program to professional requirements (4.65), teaching/learning environment (4.33), teacher-student relationship (4.31), quality of program delivery (4.29), range of courses offered (4.20), library, laboratory and other facilities (4.10), and work placement (4.07). This suggests that the respondents were generally satisfied with the university's graduate curricular offerings. However, they gave some suggestions to further improve the delivery of graduate degree programs by VSU.

Senekal, Janine. "Employment and employability profiles of postgraduate psychology alumni from a historically disadvantaged university." University of the Western Cape, 2018. http://hdl.handle.net/11394/6221.

Full text
Abstract:
Magister Artium - MA (Psychology)
The present study aimed to determine the employment and employability profiles of alumni from structured professional Masters programmes in psychology. Issues of low enrolment rates and high attrition rates are at the fore of transformation efforts in the South African higher education sector. The concern of graduate employability and the relevance of skills training received to the labour market are of international concern. Graduate tracer studies have been successfully implemented internationally to attempt to understand these issues. Training relevance is of particular concern for the field of psychology in South Africa, as there is a significant shortage of mental health professionals. Understanding where graduates from professional Masters degrees in psychology find employment, as well as understanding their employability, may lead to greater absorption of graduates from these programmes into the workforce. Permission to conduct the present study and ethics clearance was obtained from the Senate Research Committee of the University of the Western Cape, and all relevant ethics principles were adhered to. An incentivised, online survey was conducted with a sample of 29 Masters-level graduates from two professional psychology programmes at a historically disadvantaged university. The study used a modified version of the Standard Instrument for Graduates. The survey had a 50% response rate (29 of 58) after at least four electronic reminders. Respondents graduated between 2008 and 2013, 13 from the clinical Masters programme and 16 from the research Masters programme. Descriptive statistics were used to depict the employment and employability profiles of the alumni. Most of the respondents were female (n=21), and about a third were first generation students (n=11). Most of the respondents were currently employed (n=25). They were employed in a variety of fields, predominantly health (n=10) and higher education (n=7), and largely clustered in the public sector (n=17). This suggested a transferability of skills. The training received was perceived to be relevant, in terms of accessing employment and conducting current work. Most of the clinical graduates were registered as clinical psychologists (n=12) with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. There were varied registrations held by graduates from the research programme and some were not registered. The respondents held generally positive attitudes towards their alma mater. These descriptive results were interpreted through the use of McQuaid and Lindsay's (2005) framework of employability, based on the interaction between their individual factors, personal circumstances and external factors. Through this frame, the results highlighted the complex nature of the employability of these graduates.

Abstract:
Dissertation (MTech: Business Administration))-- Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2011
A quantitative research study was conducted in order to gain insight and knowledge into the various destinations CPUT Marketing graduates end up after completing their course of study. A cohort of students that graduated between 2001-2010 was used in this research. The motivation for the study stemmed from the researcher’s experience working at CPUT, lecturing and the researcher’s interaction with the students. The ultimate objective of the study was to trace the graduates, identify their employment status and observe if they are employed in the area for which they have studied. The literature study covers areas that relate to how students choose what to study, graduate skills, the workforce and graduate employment and unemployment. These areas were reviewed from different sources and authors that specialize in graduate development. The researcher elected to work with CPUT graduates as the researcher too is an alumnus of CPUT and was familiar with the policies and procedures of the institution. Results of the research confirmed that tracer studies are an essential tool for tracking graduates and the findings of tracer studies are beneficial for future curriculum development. Although tracer studies yield valuable insight into graduate trajectories they undervalued and underutilized. Furthermore, the results confirm that graduates are employed in the sectors for which they studied or associated sectors. Moreover co-operative education should be further explored to yield better results and perhaps secure employment for the student after graduation. The recommendation is that academic staff revisits the curriculum and better incorporate scarce skills such as critical thinking skills and also institute a formal tracking system that can be used to benefit the department.

Hlophe, Dolly. "Tracer study of the placement of boilermaker graduates in the labour market." Thesis, 2020. https://hdl.handle.net/10539/30837.

Full text
Abstract:
A research report submitted to the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management, University of the Witwatersrand, in 50% fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Management (in the field of Monitoring and Evaluation), 2020
This tracer study was designed to track the placement of boilermaker graduates in South Africa. The mining skills sector plan identifies amongst others the boilermaker trade as in short supply. To respond to the scarcity of boilermakers in the mining industry, the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) deployed funding to various mining companies to equip potential individuals with boilermaker skills. The skills development interventions (training of boilermakers) funded by the MQA aims to enhance the existing skills base of the South African mining sector and to develop a supply of graduates for the sector’s future skills needs. Against this background, a tracer study was conducted to determine the effects of MQA funding on boilermaker skills development interventions. The research was conducted to answer the following primary research question: What is the placement profile of the boilermaker graduates in the labour market? The study employed mixed research methods to collect and analyse data. Semi structured interviews were used to collect qualitative data from the potential employers. Questionnaires were used to collect quantitative data from the boilermaker graduates. The study was based on the 2014 to 2016 learnership cohort supported by the MQA. The analysis of the quantitative data from the boilermaker graduates played a significant role in assisting the researcher to answer the primary research question and subsequently deal with the primary research objective which was to track the placement of boilermaker graduates in the labour market. The findings show a positive trend in terms of boilermaker graduates’ shift from the learning environment to the world of employment noting that out of 40 respondents, 27 were employed and 17 of these graduates were employed as boilermakers. Furthermore, it took less than six months for all 17 individuals to find boilermaker employment. The findings point to three key themes influencing the employment prospects of boilermaker graduates which include the nature of the qualification, government legislation, and graduate attributes. The study discovered that employer representatives favoured boilermaker graduates who had more exposure to practical knowledge and experience particularly those with the Section 28certification,as opposed to those with a TVET college qualification. The cohort of boilermaker graduates and the study sample was dominated by black male individuals which correlates with one of the key aims of the Skills Development Act(SDA)and related legislation to improve the employment prospects of previously disadvantaged groups through training and education. The study further revealed that employers tend to prefer boilermaker graduates with skills and attributes such as technical competency, lifelong technological learning tendencies, good work ethics and honesty

Gentz, Shelene. "The application of psychological expertise in post-apartheid South Africa : a tracer study of masters graduates from the University of KwaZulu-Natal." Thesis, 2006. http://hdl.handle.net/10413/1816.

Full text
Abstract:
Nikolas Rose, heavily influenced by Foucault's concept of "governmentality", has proposed that psychological expertise has come to play an important role in governing conduct in liberal democracies. This study was an empirical attempt to explore these theoretical arguments in South Africa, a developing democracy. Recent debates on the practice of psychology in South Africa, occurring amidst socio/political initiatives of reconstruction and development, have focused on the relevance of the discipline given its involvement in the apartheid context. The current study reflected on some of the changes in application that have resulted from calls for relevance. The participants of the study were Masters Graduates from the University ofKwaZulu-Natal, previously University of Natal and University of Durban-Westville, in the period from 19932003. Influenced by Rose's theoretical ideas advocating a history of problematizations, the data collection focussed on understanding the practical problems psychologists deal with in their work contexts and the practices used to solve these problems. Results suggest a growing application towards socially relevant problems, which include socio/economic and public health issues. Furthermore psychological expertise predominantly intervenes with individualized technologies of the self, encouraging "self-government". The governmentality framework exposes some limitations of the application of psychology in the developing world context.

Abstract:
AbstractIn Kyrgyzstan, scholars disagree about the outcomes of the Tulip Revolution of 2005: while some argue that the revolution has not resulted in noteworthy changes in the country, others see it as the beginning of major political change. To trace the materiality of such change it is necessary to look at the micro-level of a society, as this chapter does by focusing on the house as the unit of analysis for a close study of change. It examines the gradual transformation of dwellings in Ak Jar, an illegal squatter settlement on the northern edge of Kyrgyztan’s capital city Bishkek. The immediate aftermath of the Tulip Revolution saw the emergence of numerous illegal squatter settlements on the outer fringes of the city. Ak Jar, the largest of these, has some 15,000 inhabitants who arrived in Bishkek as internal migrants in search of employment. The dwellings in Ak Jar have changed over the course of time: most began as small mud shacks, and changed when a family generated enough money to improve and expand them. The development of these houses was central for the gradual official recognition of the illegal settlements that emerged in post-revolutionary Kyrgyzstan. House biographies are therefore intrinsically tied to wider developments in Kyrgyz society and throw new light on the ruptures, power struggles, and consolidation of power relations after the Tulip Revolution.

Abstract:
This chapter illustrates how study abroad experiences can become a key component of an adult learning program. Adult learning educators may face many challenges in the ever changing demographics of the workforce today. Whether a corporate trainer, healthcare professional, literacy and/or English as a Second Language instructor, most adult educators find the need to have a greater understanding of the global environment. Graduate students benefit from international experiences which transform learning by expanding students global perspectives. This chapter explores an inaugural study abroad program in the Adult Learning Graduate Program in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Virginia Commonwealth University. The chapter describes both the challenges and reflections of students and faculty while abroad. Malcolm Knowles' Andragogical framework is the foundation of this study abroad experience. Experiential Learning (Kolbe 1984) and Transformative Learning (Mezirow, 1999) are also explored through students' reflections on the study abroad experience.

Abstract:
This chapter presents a distinct perspective on context, adopting an interactionist view that includes the interaction of context, actors, and action. The chapter traces the gradual development of this interactionist perspective and then provides three illustrative examples from which to develop further the concept of context. First, it is argued that the actor fluidly blends context into form by selectively melding contextual elements, with the crucial difference between the elements of the external context and the elements of the personal context being one of distance. Second, it is suggested that attention to certain elements of context is dynamically driven by focus, and selective attention is framed by sensemaking and is driven by an individualized judgment of what is “relevant.” This explanation perceives the bounding of context as an act of individual sensemaking, embodied cognition, and judgment.

Abstract:
This chapter argues that in the study of politics, numbers make a difference: a discipline with a hundred or so members must behave in a different way from one with over a thousand. It divides the century in the middle, in 1950, the date of the PSA’s founding. The first period, then, is one of gradual expansion to the small base from which the massive expansion of the second period was launched. The chapter traces through the implications of professionalization for the way in which politics is studied, looking at the relations among subdisciplines within the subject and relations between the discipline in Britain and in the rest of the world. Britain has scarcely embraced the project of modernism with enthusiasm, so there is less provocation to fuel postmodernism. Perhaps resistance to intellectual fashion will continue to be the distinctive British trait – for better and for worse.

Abstract:
The study presents the social composition of students who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Erzsébet University in Pozsony (Bratislava) from 1918 and then after a temporary stay in Budapest, in Pécs from the autumn of 1923 until the academic year 1929/1930. The article specifically examines the output of university education, excluding students who dropped out or transferred to another institution. It presents the recruitment and mobility of the student body by statistical analysis of the religion, place of birth and father/guardian occupation of the medical graduates of the selected period. The statistical survey shows a large number of Israelites and those born in Budapest. The occupational composition of the father/guardian largely consists of three groups: public and private officials – professionals – traders and large business owners. A separate subchapter deals with the changes resulting from the numerus clausus law in the composition of medical students in Pécs, as well as the attitude of the university in Pécs and its impact on the Hungarian higher education market. The clear goal of the university management was to ensure the survival of the university by increasing the number of students. The main reason for applying numerus clausus as loosely as possible was also the fact that the number of Christian students remained low, often failing to fill in the allotted numbers. Finally, the paper presents possible further research opportunities.

Abstract:
Through close readings of 16 novels by male and female Arab writers, the study traces the gradual move from an ahistorical homogeneous traditional ideology of ageing into an incongruous, diverse and fluid representation. It centres on ageing as a biological phenomenon viewed in essentialist terms. The cultural view perceives the ageing process as an unstable entity that intersects with sex, gender and changing political and social configurations. The novels range from tropes of elderly men and women within paternalistic structures to more open-ended models generated by social and demographic factors. The study concentrates on the inextricable link between the biological and constructionist models, creating an alternative configuration that fuses the biological with the discursive, making the ageing process multiple and plural.

Abstract:
This study describes a task-based assessment (TBA) approach to teaching reading and writing online. It then analyzes key factors emerging from the results of implementing this approach with graduate engineering students in Japan. It is argued that these factors should be considered when designing or assessing any online reading or writing course for ESL/EFL students. The findings of this study are especially relevant to task-based approaches and technical or pedagogical innovations which can help foster more effective and enjoyable learning for teachers and students in blended learning environments. It is hoped that this discussion can serve as a model of what can be done to enhance online EAP/ESP/ETP courses, as well as any other online reading or writing course being designed for speakers and readers of languages other than English. The goal in this chapter is to summarize research aimed at integrating some of the most useful Web sites for English language learning into a user-friendly system for optimal online vocabulary development — which could be self-monitored by students as well as tracked by teachers via a course management system.

Abstract:
Current demand for Information System (IS) graduates requires that they master specific technical skills needed by industry and government institutions. Revising the IS curriculum to keep it up to date while meeting demands of the Information Technology (IT) labor market continues to be a challenging task. In order to graduate students that are competitive, post-secondary educational institutions must adopt a new methodology where IT certification is an integral part of the IS curriculum. The IEEE and ACM recognize the importance of IT certification and provide its members with over 800 online courses that lead to various IT certificates. The selection of the appropriate IT certificate for integration into the IS curriculum is a complex task as it entails a thorough knowledge of the curriculum and the certificate objectives. The goal of this paper is to propose a selection of IT certificates which can be readily integrated into the IS curriculum. Three potential certification tracks for the purpose of this study are identified: Networking, Programming, and IT hardware and software. A list of vendors and non-vendors IT certificates and their exam requirements is developed, and the IS courses which can lead to the listed IT certificates are identified. This identification is based on matching specific course objectives with the IT certificate and the timeline needed for the certificate completion. The selection of the IT certificates for each track is optimized to facilitate both student learning and the completion of the certificate. Integrating IT certification in computing curricula makes IS programs more attractive to students. Moreover, the acquisition of IT certification is a valued asset for graduates seeking employment or advancement in the computing field.

Abstract:
Korea implemented the Engineering Education Accreditation system in 2001, and it was adopted by 85 engineering colleges (out of 165) in 2015. Focusing on the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Seoul, this study performed a time-series analysis of GPA, employment rate, and credits earned in MSC/design/major courses to compare the differences in academic achievements between accredited and non-accredited graduates. The results showed that accredited graduates had a generally higher GPA and employment rate than non-accredited students, and this can be traced to the curricula provided under the accreditation system having a positive effect on improving communication, teamwork, and creativity.

Abstract:
The European Higher Education Area (EHEA) defines the competences for professional practice of a Telecommunications Engineer. The School of Telecommunication Engineering of the Universitat Politècnica de València (Valencia, Spain) provides an integrated education program consisting of a Graduate (GITST) + Master (MUIT). The GITST course offers four specialization tracks: Electronics, Telematics, Communication Systems and Multimedia for the proper acquisition of knowledge and competences of the future Telecommunications Engineers. In 2018, the graduate program has implemented a structural change in the organization of subjects for reinforcing important skills, in which a course on digital electronics design and verification (Integration of Digital Systems, ISDIGI) has been transformed into a core subject of the study plan. In this paper, we describe the methodology and adaptation of ISDIGI (i.e. a project-based learning intermediate HDL course that includes design and verification abilities) to the new GITST Curriculum. In addition, this paper describes the process of moving from specialized to core subject.

Financial Stability Report - September 2015. Banco de la República, August 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.32468/rept-estab-fin.sem2.eng-2015.

Full text
Abstract:
From this edition, the Financial Stability Report will have fewer pages with some changes in its structure. The purpose of this change is to present the most relevant facts of the financial system and their implications on the financial stability. This allows displaying the analysis more concisely and clearly, as it will focus on describing the evolution of the variables that have the greatest impact on the performance of the financial system, for estimating then the effect of a possible materialization of these risks on the financial health of the institutions. The changing dynamics of the risks faced by the financial system implies that the content of the Report adopts this new structure; therefore, some analyses and series that were regularly included will not necessarily be in each issue. However, the statistical annex that accompanies the publication of the Report will continue to present the series that were traditionally included, regardless of whether or not they are part of the content of the Report. In this way we expect to contribute in a more comprehensive way to the study and analysis of the stability of the Colombian financial system. Executive Summary During the first half of 2015, the main advanced economies showed a slow recovery on their growth, while emerging economies continued with their slowdown trend. Domestic demand in the United States allowed for stabilization on its average growth for the first half of the year, while other developed economies such as the United Kingdom, the euro zone, and Japan showed a more gradual recovery. On the other hand, the Chinese economy exhibited the lowest growth rate in five years, which has resulted in lower global dynamism. This has led to a fall in prices of the main export goods of some Latin American economies, especially oil, whose price has also responded to a larger global supply. The decrease in the terms of trade of the Latin American economies has had an impact on national income, domestic demand, and growth. This scenario has been reflected in increases in sovereign risk spreads, devaluations of stock indices, and depreciation of the exchange rates of most countries in the region. For Colombia, the fall in oil prices has also led to a decline in the terms of trade, resulting in pressure on the dynamics of national income. Additionally, the lower demand for exports helped to widen the current account deficit. This affected the prospects and economic growth of the country during the first half of 2015. This economic context could have an impact on the payment capacity of debtors and on the valuation of investments, affecting the soundness of the financial system. However, the results of the analysis featured in this edition of the Report show that, facing an adverse scenario, the vulnerability of the financial system in terms of solvency and liquidity is low. The analysis of the current situation of credit institutions (CI) shows that growth of the gross loan portfolio remained relatively stable, as well as the loan portfolio quality indicators, except for microcredit, which showed a decrease in these indicators. Regarding liabilities, traditional sources of funding have lost market share versus non-traditional ones (bonds, money market operations and in the interbank market), but still represent more than 70%. Moreover, the solvency indicator remained relatively stable. As for non-banking financial institutions (NBFI), the slowdown observed during the first six months of 2015 in the real annual growth of the assets total, both in the proprietary and third party position, stands out. The analysis of the main debtors of the financial system shows that indebtedness of the private corporate sector has increased in the last year, mostly driven by an increase in the debt balance with domestic and foreign financial institutions. However, the increase in this latter source of funding has been influenced by the depreciation of the Colombian peso vis-à-vis the US dollar since mid-2014. The financial indicators reflected a favorable behavior with respect to the historical average, except for the profitability indicators; although they were below the average, they have shown improvement in the last year. By economic sector, it is noted that the firms focused on farming, mining and transportation activities recorded the highest levels of risk perception by credit institutions, and the largest increases in default levels with respect to those observed in December 2014. Meanwhile, households have shown an increase in the financial burden, mainly due to growth in the consumer loan portfolio, in which the modalities of credit card, payroll deductible loan, revolving and vehicle loan are those that have reported greater increases in risk indicators. On the side of investments that could be affected by the devaluation in the portfolio of credit institutions and non-banking financial institutions (NBFI), the largest share of public debt securities, variable-yield securities and domestic private debt securities is highlighted. The value of these portfolios fell between February and August 2015, driven by the devaluation in the market of these investments throughout the year. Furthermore, the analysis of the liquidity risk indicator (LRI) shows that all intermediaries showed adequate levels and exhibit a stable behavior. Likewise, the fragility analysis of the financial system associated with the increase in the use of non-traditional funding sources does not evidence a greater exposure to liquidity risk. Stress tests assess the impact of the possible joint materialization of credit and market risks, and reveal that neither the aggregate solvency indicator, nor the liquidity risk indicator (LRI) of the system would be below the established legal limits. The entities that result more individually affected have a low share in the total assets of the credit institutions; therefore, a risk to the financial system as a whole is not observed.
