Abstract:
There is a difference in the fluency in reading the Qur'an for class VII students at MTsN 1 Payakumbuh between SDN graduates and SDIT graduates. From the initial observations made, the authors found a temporary difference that students who graduated from SD N were more fluent in reading than students who graduated from SDIT. The problem that the author examines is how significant the difference in fluency in reading the Qur'an SDIT graduate students with SDN graduate students in class VII MTsN 1 Payakumbuh. And the aim is to find out how significant the differences in Al-Qur'an reading fluency are between IT Elementary School Graduates and Public Elementary School Graduates. This research uses a type of field research (field research) using a quantitative approach using a comparative descriptive design. Comparative research is a type of research that aims to compare the presence of one or more variables in two or different samples or at different times. The sample that the researcher used was several grade VII students who graduated from SDN and SDIT. The data collection techniques that the researchers used were oral tests and documentation. From the results of the data analysis used to test the hypothesis using the Mann-Whitney Test because the data is not normally distributed and not homogeneous and the results of statistical tests show that the Asymp.Sig.(2-tailed) value is .031 so it can be concluded that it is .031 < 0.05 and the hypothesis is accepted. If the hypothesis is accepted, it means that there is a significant difference in Al-Qur'an Reading Fluency between Elementary School Graduates and Elementary School IT Grade VII Students at MTsN 1 Payakumbuh City. Where students who graduated from SD N are more fluent in reading the Al-Qur'an than students who graduated from SD IT.

Abstract:
This research was motivated by the discovery that students who graduated from Junior High School (SMP) were more active and superior than students who graduated from Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) in Islamic Education learning. This is of course a problem, because basically, in PAI learning, students who graduate from Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) must be superior to students who graduate from Junior High Schools (SMP) because students who graduate from Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) are students with notaben educational backgrounds religion school. This is of course a problem that must be resolved. So this research aims to compare the PAI learning outcomes of the two graduates and see how comparable they are. The type of research used in this research is comparative with a quantitative approach. The population is all class The sample in this study used a cluster random sampling technique, and 4 classes were sampled, with details of 36 MTs graduate students and 71 junior high school graduate students. Data was collected through documentation and analyzed independent sample t tests. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, research results show that there is a comparison of student PAI learning outcomes between MTs and SMP graduates, which is proven by the results of the independent sample t test where the calculated t value > t table is 8.332 > 1.985. And student PAI learning outcomes are higher for MTs graduate students as evidenced by the mean difference value in the independent sample t test of 7.329, which means that MTs graduate students have an average PAI learning outcome score of 7.329 higher than the PAI learning outcomes of junior high school graduate students so that Ha accepted.

Abstract:
The Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria) has trained more than 600 undergraduateand 200 Ph.D. students, becoming a reference in physics training at the Rio Grande do Sul central region. In this work we presenta gender analysis of the UFSM graduated students from both levels. The number of graduated students of the female gender hasbeen rising with time and is significatively bigger than the number observed nationally in both levels. The mean values are35 %, 37 %, 28 %, 42 % e 39 % for the courses physics teaching (daytime), physics teaching (nightime), physics, master anddoctorate, respectively. We also observe an increase in the participation of female students in graduate courses, when comparing to undergraduate courses, unlike what is observed in the national average numbers. Considering only the last 5 years the number of graduated students reaches 50 % in the physics teaching (daytime) and master courses. Although this study is of a local nature, it reinforces the need for the dissemination of data regarding the gender of graduates by all universities, allowing to conduct general gender studies.

Abstract:
The admission of non-STEM graduates to engineering programs creates an opportunity to determine if the Senior High School strand does really dictate the performance of students. This study administered the Force and Motion Conceptual Evaluation (FMCE) to the first-year engineering students to determine if STEM graduates perform better than non-STEM graduates. The FMCE was administered to six hundred-seven (n = 607) first year engineering students of a state-run university in the Philippines, school year 2019-2020 and 2020-2021. The results reveal that there is no significant difference between the mean scores obtained by the STEM and non-STEM graduates (p = 0.912) in the FMCE. It was noted that the students who graduated from private and public high schools have similar performance (p = 0.242). Nevertheless, there is an urban-rural gap in performance among the respondents, where students who graduated from schools in cities have better performance than those who graduated from rural schools (p = 0.019). Finally, in the field dominated by male, the results suggest that female students are at par with male student students (p = 0.123) and both have statistically the same level of confidence with their answers (p = 0.176).

Abstract:
This study attempts to examine the relationship between risk tolerance and self-efficacy in entrepreneurial intention. A convenient sampling method was applied to select respondents. Self-structured questionnaires were used to collect the data. Out of the 180 questionnaires distributed to the graduated and post-graduate management students in Kathmandu valley, only 140 questionnaires were received and this study is based on the analysis of them. Descriptive and correlation research designs had been used to analyze them. The study concludes that risk tolerance capacity does not influence the students' intentions to start a new business. This result shows somehow inverse results than other previous studies. However, the study concludes that self-efficacy was important in determining the entrepreneurial intentions of graduates and post-graduate students. This result supports the previous study. Therefore, self-efficacy is to take positively related to entrepreneurial intention.

Abstract:
This study expanded the work of Waite and Pettit (1993) and contacted 75 graduate programs for lists of names and addresses of students who graduated between 1989 and 1994 (N = 731). Doctoral (n = 92) and master (n = 162) graduates completed a tracking survey (modified from Waite & Pettit), reporting their demographics, educational backgrounds, current positions, incomes, initial and future career goals, and supervised experiences. The majority of doctoral graduates have found positions in academia/research, and most of the master graduates were in some sport or sport psychology-related job. The majority of the master and doctoral graduates, however, reported that finding paying sport psychology work was difficult, and many expressed at least moderate levels of frustration with the progress of their sport psychology careers. The information from this study could be useful for advising current and potential graduate students about career options after graduation.

Abstract:
Despite the increase in methodological sophistication and complexity of models being tested for international student adjustment to universities in the United States (U.S.), researchers often do not test or control for salient demographic differences between students, including their educational status (i.e., graduate or undergraduate) and country in which they graduated high school. The current study was designed to examine whether demographic variables are associated with a range of social outcomes. Participants ( N = 245) from 23 U.S. colleges and universities completed a survey in Fall 2017. Undergraduate students reported having a higher number of close friends at their institution than did graduate students; however, they also reported a lower sense of belonging than did graduate students. Students who graduated from high school in the United States reported less social support from international students at university. Implications for students and for future research are provided.

Abstract:
The quality of universities, especially study programs in Indonesia is measured based on accreditation conducted by BAN PT. According to BAN PT the quality is measured based on 7 main standards, one of them is Student and Graduate. One of the problems that still be the subject of discussion related to student failure is about the students who graduated not on time. Students graduating not on time are students who can not complete their studies in accordance with the provisions of time given. The existence of a graduate student is not timely of course cause problems and potentially drop out that affect the quality of education and accreditation. A system that predicts students' graduation is required by evaluating their learning outcomes. The timeliness of graduating students can be done with data mining techniques to find graduation patterns of students who have graduated which then used as a basis to predict students' graduation in the next year. This study showed that Naïve Bayes was able to classify the correct data testing on average by 86.16% and 13.84% error. In addition, other information obtained from the data testing used that the students who entered from the PMDK Pass graduated on time as much as 40%, other paths graduated on time by 26.7%, and pass filter exam on time 13.3%.

BackgroundIn several countries, studies have shown that fewer medical students choose rheumatology as specialty. In Morocco no study has yet focused on this subject.ObjectivesThe aim of our study is to assess the attractiveness of rheumatology as a specialty among Moroccan medical students, recently graduates and interns, and to analyze the factors that may be associated with it.MethodsAn online survey was sent to 297 medical students who had started their hospital practice, to 100 medical interns (students in 6th and 7th year who successfully passed the internship competition) and to 280 freshly graduated doctors (residency program candidates before choosing a medical or surgical specialty). The survey covered three areas: anonymous social and demographic informations, data on clinical trainee in a rheumatology department, and the attitude toward rheumatology as a specialty. Descriptive data were collected and Chi 2 Tests were used to assess differences between groups, Logistic regression was performed to investigate associations between demographic and exposure variables and the choice of rheumatology as a career.ResultsWe collected responses from 161 students (response rate: 54%), 68 interns (68%) and 89 freshly graduated doctors (32%). Abstract:
Program outcomes (POs) are essential components in outcome-based education (OBE), reflecting a graduate’s attribute and ability to demonstrate competencies at appropriate levels. Typically, POs are derived from the graduate attributes (GA) specified by accrediting bodies such as the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). The attainment of POs is assessed through various methods, including direct and indirect assessment tools. This study evaluates the reliability and effectiveness of POs attainment analysis and measurement using cumulative model and culminating model approaches. The analysis was conducted on a cohort of 226 students who graduated in September 2017, consisting of two entry channels: 115 diploma students and 111 matriculation students. Comparative analysis results indicate that both models reliably measure POs attainment, however the culminating model shows better performance of POs attainment compared to the cumulative model. The average percentage difference between the two models for diploma students is 4.64% and no difference for PO9 and PO10. For the matriculation intake group the average percentage difference between the two models is 3.82% and no difference for PO6 and PO11. In conclusion, both models facilitate systematic POs attainment analysis for all students and provide insights into the strengths and limitations of each model, contributing to the ongoing improvement of OBE practices and ensuring that graduates meet the required competencies and standards.

Abstract:
This paper reports the results of a 1997–98 survey designed to explore the careers of the University of Michigan Law School's minority graduates from the classes of 1970 through 1996, and of a random sample of Michigan Law School's white alumni who graduated during the same years. It is to date the most detailed quantitative exploration of how minority students fare after they graduate from law school and enter law practice or related careers. The results reveal that almost all of Michigan Law School's minority graduates pass a bar exam and go on to have careers that appear successful by conventional measures. In particular, the survey indicates that minority graduates (defined so as to include graduates with African American, Latino, and Native American backgrounds) are no less successful than white graduates, whether success is measured by the log of current income, self-reported satisfaction, or an index of service contributions. Also, although an admissions index that combines LSAT scores and undergraduate grade-point average is a significant predictor of law school grades, it does not predict career success on any of our three outcome measures. Michigan is a highly selective law school; our results may not generalize to people who have graduated from other law schools.

Abstract:
The issue of delayed graduation is often encountered in various universities, including in the Statistics Study Program at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, for graduates between 2018 and 2023. Among them, 162 students (76.5%) experienced delayed graduation, and 5 students (2.35%) dropped out. This delay in graduation is caused by various factors, necessitating a classification method capable of identifying the most dominant factors. The classification method used in this research is Improved Chi-Square Automatic Interaction Detection (I-CHAID) with the Synthetic Minority Oversampling Technique (SMOTE) approach. SMOTE is employed to address imbalanced data. Based on the I-CHAID classification tree with the SMOTE approach, the significant factors influencing the duration of study completion are the GPA in the fifth semester (67.2%) and the mentoring method (87.5%). As for the classification performance from the 40% testing data, the accuracy achieved was 40.6%, meaning that out of 32 samples, 13 were correctly classified. The sensitivity value was 6.25%, indicating the success rate of classifying data for students who graduated on time. The specificity value was 75%, showing the success rate in classifying data for students who did not graduate on time. The precision value was 20%, reflecting the accuracy of predicting students who actually graduated on time, and the F-measure was 9.52%, indicating the balance between precision and sensitivity.

Abstract:
Graduate job placement is an important issue for emergency management higher education programs, practitioners, and students. Yet, despite considerable discussion about the topic, no line of empirical research has emerged. This article begins to address this gap by reporting the findings of an exploratory study that examined the actual job placement of students who recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in emergency management and the extent to which their placement was consistent with their intent. This study found that the vast majority of recent graduates are indeed securing jobs they want, but, for about half, the jobs they want are not emergency management. There is significant diversity in the career-paths and sectors being pursued by graduates. This article discusses the potential implications of these findings as well as the critical need for further research in this area.

Graduate School IPB (SPs - IPB) has been established for a long time and is believed to produce high quality graduates and highly competitive. However, based on existing data recaps, there are a small number of students who did not graduate, either resigned or Drop Out (DO). It needs to be handled by conducting a selection process for prospective students based on the profile and educational background S1. One of them by applying the method of classification K - Nearest Neighbor (KNN). The response variable used is the success status of the study of prospective students, ie graduated and not graduated. While the explanatory variables used are the profiles and educational background of prospective students. There is an imbalance of data in the data obtained, where the class does not pass much less than the passing class. This can reduce the value of classification accuracy in minority class (sensitivity). So that the handling of data imbalance by using resampling method, either in the form of Random Over Sampling (ROS), Random Under Sampling (RUS), and Random Over-Under Sampling (ROUS). The result of comparison of evaluation result of KNN classification by using k = 1 to 6, resulted in greater sensitivity value when accompanied by the process of handling the data imbalance than without the process of handling the data imbalance, although the accuracy and specificity value becomes smaller. The greatest sensitivity value was obtained when applying the KNN classification method with k = 1, accompanied by the handling of data imbalance by the RUS method, with the mean and median sensitivity values of 0.89 and 0.90, respectively.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Hospital training courses for pharmacy students were required to prepare students to meet the challenges of real-world hospital work. AIM: Because there have been few studies on the efficacy of such courses, we aimed to recognize recent graduates’ perceptions, benefits, and factors influencing the quality of hospital training courses for pharmacy students. METHODS: A qualitative study using a phenomenology approach was conducted in 2022 and included several hospitals in Baghdad, Iraq, using in-depth face-to-face individual-based semi-structured interviews. Until saturation, a convenient sample of recently graduated pharmacists was included. The obtained data were analyzed using a thematic content analysis approach. RESULTS: A total of 40 recently graduated pharmacists participated in this study. Twenty-two participants took the hospital training course by direct attendance, while eighteen received the course online. A higher proportion of pharmacists stated that the hospital training course was beneficial and effective. The information obtained in the course is adequate in the direct attendance group, while those in the online group are inadequate. The teaching staff was the most influential factor influencing educational quality. The stress of studying during the training course hampered approximately 40% of the participants. CONCLUSION: The hospital training course effectively prepared the graduate pharmacist for future work in hospitals. On the other hand, the online training course was insufficient and only provided students with theoretical, repetitive information with no practical engagement. Still, there is a need to improve the course in terms of lengthening the course, reducing crowding, and expanding the role of the teaching staff.

Abstract:
With the surge in college graduate numbers, a disparity has emerged where the supply of jobs falls short of demand, intensifying employment pressures annually. College graduates, due to their lack of historical employment data compared with job seekers in the broader society, encounter a ‘cold start’ issue in the job recommendation process. Additionally, the nature of job recommendations, which differs fundamentally from unilateral recommendations, requires consideration of reciprocity between both parties involved. This article introduces a new approach to job recommendations using college graduates as the object of study. In the screening stage, a semantic keyword iterative algorithm is applied to compute the similarity between the resume and recruitment texts. This algorithm enhances the intersectionality of keywords in the calculation process, maximizing the utilization of resume information to enhance the accuracy of text similarity calculations. The ranking phase utilizes in-school data to build a social network between college graduates and graduated students and solves the system’s cold-start problem using the social network to recommend jobs for college graduates where graduated students are employed. We introduce a dual-dimensional matching approach that incorporates both specialty and salary, building upon the amalgamated semantic keyword iterative algorithm and the social network job recommendation method, to enhance the reciprocity of job recommendations. The job recommendation method introduced herein outperforms other methods in terms of the average satisfaction rate (AR) and normalized discounted cumulative gain (NDCG), thereby confirming its superior ability to meet the job-seeking preferences of graduates and the recruitment criteria of employers. This job recommendation method offers effective assistance to graduates lacking employment experience and historical employment data, facilitating their search for more suitable job opportunities.

Judging from the realm of Islamic Religious Education graduates, they have a graduate profile that is expected to be a center in education that produces superior Islamic Educators. However, in reality, there are students who graduate from Islamic Religious Education who have a background as educators or education graduates who prefer to work in non-educational fields. The impact of this phenomenon itself can lead to other phenomena, so this study seeks to provide a description of how this phenomenon can occur and of course this is influenced by several factors in decision making, decision-making styles and what difficulties are faced after making a decision to work in a non-profit sector. education. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Sources of data came from 10 students who graduated from Islamic Religious Education UNP who worked in the non-educational field by conducting in-depth interviews. The results of the interviews were analyzed systematically with four stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Overall, the results of the analysis show that the internal factors that influence the decision making of PAI graduate students are interests and talents, as well as personality. Then three external factors that influence, namely: 1) parents, 2) environment, 3) salary/financial. Meanwhile, there are two decision-making styles used by PAI graduate students, namely the rational style and the intuitive style.

This study aims to determine the characteristics of students who are likely to graduate or drop out (DO) in the management department of the National University, Jakarta. The study was conducted by implementing the K-Means algorithm, where each data is grouped according to the closest distance to the centroid. Determination of Cluster C1 graduate or C2 drop out is based on the attributes of status of students (active, leave, out and non-active), educational status (graduated or DO), GPA, total credits taken and length of study. To facilitate the clustering process, Orange tools are used that provide K-Means algorithm features. The total data input in this study were 1988 students from various classes. As a result, a pattern or mapping of graduated or DO students was found based on the attributes mentioned earlier. Testing the results of this cluster with the silhouette method, by measuring the distance between cluster members, both C1 and C2, showed good Silhouetter value, reaching 85%. The management department, National University can use the results of this study to predict the graduation of their students.

Abstract:
This qualitative study explored the career fit experiences of university graduates. An interpretive phenomenological approach was used to conduct in-depth interviews with five alumni participants from various colleges. They were selected based on specific inclusion criteria: they must have graduated from college in 2015 or earlier; their current jobs should be aligned with the college they graduated from; and they must have been in their regular job position for at least one year. In addition, five company representatives were selected as key informants to provide supplementary data about their perceptions of career fit between the graduates and their chosen careers. They were chosen based on the industry or company aligned to their nature of work. The study aimed to understand how these graduates transitioned from school to finding a fit in their careers. Following Creswell's approach to qualitative data analysis, five key themes emerged: 1. College experiences lay the groundwork for easy adjustment; 2. Actual work exposures facilitate smooth transition; 3. Blending in and being valued at work is a good formula for career fit; 4. Supportive work relationships promote a sense of belonging; and 5. Being in sync at work inspires relevant future career goals. Findings highlight the importance of alignment between degree programs and actual jobs and basic competencies. Career fit emphasizes the advantage of graduating with a degree in which students were trained. It is recommended that colleges and universities promote the alignment of the students' academic preparation with the demands of potential employers. Abstract:
Research suggests that career development courses have positive impacts on college students’ career development outputs. What is less established is the impact of these career courses on educational outcomes like retention, graduation rate, and academic performance. This study compared two groups of undergraduate students: one that successfully completed a career development course ( n = 3,546) and a matched group of students who did not take the career course ( n = 3,510). The groups were compared on graduation rate, time to graduation, course withdrawals, and cumulative grade point averages (GPAs). The career development course was not a significant predictor of graduation within 6 years, the number of semesters to graduate, or the number of withdrawals incurred. However, the career development course did significantly predict the total number of credits (participants graduated with about five more credits) and cumulative GPA at graduation (participants graduated with higher GPAs).

Abstract:
ObjectiveWhile previous studies have begun to explore newly graduated junior doctors’ preparedness for practice, findings are largely based on simplistic survey data or perceptions of newly graduated junior doctors and their clinical supervisors alone. This study explores, in a deeper manner, multiple stakeholders’ conceptualisations of what it means to be prepared for practice and their perceptions about newly graduated junior doctors’ preparedness (or unpreparedness) using innovative qualitative methods.DesignA multistakeholder, multicentre qualitative study including narrative interviews and longitudinal audio diaries.SettingFour UK settings: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.ParticipantsEight stakeholder groups comprising n=185 participants engaged in 101 narrative interviews (27 group and 84 individual). Twenty-six junior doctors in their first year postgraduation also provided audio diaries over a 3-month period.ResultsWe identified 2186 narratives across all participants (506 classified as ‘prepared’, 663 as ‘unprepared’, 951 as ‘general’). Seven themes were identified; this paper focuses on two themes pertinent to our research questions: (1) explicit conceptualisations of preparedness for practice; and (2) newly graduated junior doctors’ preparedness for the General Medical Council’s (GMC)outcomes for graduates. Stakeholders’ conceptualisations of preparedness for practice included short-term (hitting the ground running) and long-term preparedness, alongside being prepared for practical and emotional aspects. Stakeholders’ perceptions of medical graduates’ preparedness for practice varied across different GMC outcomes for graduates (eg, Doctor as Scholar and Scientist, as Practitioner, as Professional) and across stakeholders (eg, newly graduated doctors sometimes perceived themselves as prepared but others did not).ConclusionOur narrative findings highlight the complexities and nuances surrounding new medical graduates’ preparedness for practice. We encourage stakeholders to develop a shared understanding (and realistic expectations) of new medical graduates’ preparedness. We invite medical school leaders to increase the proportion of time that medical students spend participating meaningfully in multiprofessional teams during workplace learning.

Abstract:
One indicator of a good education system is the existence of a system that is used to measure the output of education itself. Determination of measurements to determine the quality of graduates or alumni include the achievement of graduate competencies, the problems faced can be solved, the career achievements of graduates, as well as things that are either in alignment or not in harmony with the quality of alumni with the quality expected by the university. A good and intact education system has a loop-shaped educational system flow. The education system is the responsibility of universities to students, not ending when students have graduated from college, but also related to the career sustainability of graduates or alumni who are more ready to enter the community. College tracer study is one way to find out the role of alumni in society. Based on the characteristics of alumni or graduates of the Education Technology Study Program, the number of graduate data is 90 people and those who enter fill out questionnaires. Alumni or graduates who filled out the questionnaire were 90 people consisting of (70%) women and (30%) men. Alumni or graduates of the Education Technology Study Program have a study graduation time of 90%, meaning no more than 8 semesters, while 10% do not graduate on time, meaning more than 8 semesters. Alumni or graduates of the Education Technology Study Program overall average GPA of the highest respondents are respondents who have a GPA above 3.5. Alumni or graduates of the Education Technology Study Program show that the highest average employment status is respondents who work. Alumni or graduates of the Education Technology Study Program with the criteria for institutions/institutions/companies that graduates work show the highest average graduates work in private institutions/institutions/companies.

Abstract:
This study aims to examine the relationship between university characteristics, entrepreneurial orientation, and learning orientation toward graduate employability among Malaysian public university undergraduates. The theoretical model based on the resource-based view approach to graduated employability was developed. To answer the research questions, four hypotheses were formulated. Online survey questionnaires were distributed to 20 public universities in Malaysia. A total of 433 graduates from the year 2016 until 2019 were involved in this study. This data are gathered and analyzed using SPSS Software. The findings show that university characteristics, entrepreneurial orientation, and learning orientation have significant influences on graduate employability. The implication of this study could help universities in designing a better curriculum that would increase the level of graduate employability among students, and ensure the learning process learning quality and skills required by the job market meets all the characteristics required by employers.

Abstract:
The Chi-Square Automatic Interaction Detection (CHAID) and Exhaustive CHAID methods are nonparametric statistical methods that can be used to classify. CHAID and Exhaustive CHAID were used to determine the significant relationship between the dependent variable and the independent variables based on the chi-square independence test. This study was applied to data on the study period of students of FMIPA UNMUL batch 2014. Based on the CHAID and Exhaustive CHIAD methods, it can be seen that the dependent variable of the study period has a significant relationship with the independent variable, namely the study program and GPA predicate. Where students who graduated on time for the Statistics, Biology and Chemistry study program with a satisfactory GPA predicate of 82 students and with a very satisfactory GPA predicate and cum laude with 46 students. Meanwhile, students who did not graduate on time for the Statistics, Biology and Chemistry study program with an adequate GPA predicate of 5 students, a satisfactory GPA predicate of 41 students, very satisfactory and cum laude with 3 students. Students who graduated on time for the Physics study program were 13 students and those who did not graduate on time were 34 students. The chi-square independence test performed on the CHAID method uses fewer possible categorical pairs than the Exhaustive CHAID method which uses all possible categorical pairs so that it requires a long computational and calculation time.

Abstract:
The Graduate Program in Architectural Acoustics has been constantly advanced from its inception in 1998 with an ambitious mission of educating future experts and leaders in architectural acoustics, due to the rapid pace of change in the fields of architectural-, physical-, and psycho-acoustics, and noise-control engineering. Since years the program’s pedagogy using “STEM” (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) methods has been proven to be effective and productive, including intensive, integrative hands-on experimental components that integrate architectural acoustics theory and practice. The graduate program has recruited graduate students from a variety of disciplines including individuals with B.S., B.Arch., or B.A. degrees in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Architecture, Electronic Media, Sound Recording, Music and related fields. Graduate students under this pedagogy and research environment have been succeed in the rapidly changing field. RPI’s Graduate Program in Architectural Acoustics has since graduated more than 120 graduates with both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Under the guidance of the faculty members they have also actively contributed to the program’s research in architectural acoustics, communication acoustics, psycho-acoustics, signal processing in acoustics as well as our scientific exploration at the intersection of cutting edge research and traditional architecture/music culture. This paper illuminates the evolution and growth of the Graduate Program.

Abstract:
In the last twenty-five years, more than 100 astronomers have graduated from two astronomical departments in the Kingdom: one at King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh and the other in King Abdulaziz university (KAU) in Jeddah. About 15% to 20% of those graduated are now working in fields related to astronomy, among them five with Ph.D. degrees and three with M.Sc. degrees. Most of the other astronomy graduates are teaching mathematics, physics or general science in schools. The total number of academic staff in the two universities is ten Ph.Ds (five Saudis and five from abroad) and five research assistants, with no post-graduate students. Each department has a Celestron 14-inch (approx. 0.35m) with photo-counters, a 15-cm coudé refractor, solar laboratory, small planetarium and astronomical measuring instruments. In addition, KAU has a CCD camera, while KSU has a double telescope with 45cm Ritchey-Chrétien optics and a 24cm Schmidt telescope. All these observational facilities are located near the universities, where light pollution is very high and limits the observations. There is a plan to move the KSU double telescope away from Riyadh. Because of a lack of students and Saudi teaching staff, and cuts in the budget for universities, it is planned to turn the two astronomy departments into groups in the respective physics departments.

Abstract:
This study examines female graduates ( N = 616) from seven honors colleges in the Northeastern United States and the relationship between attending a New York City (NYC) selective specialized public high school and graduating with a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) degree from an honors college. A causal-comparative study design was applied. The study found a significant difference ( p < .05) in choice of college major (STEM vs non-STEM) between participants who graduated from a NYC selective specialized public high school and those who graduated from any other high school. These results support a positive relationship for female students between attending a NYC selective specialized public high school and graduating from an honors college with a degree in STEM. The implications of providing an appropriately challenging education for gifted female students are discussed.
