Abstract:
In recent times, it has been noticed that cultural tourism attracts millions of people. One interesting aspect is the analysis of WHS (World Heritage Site) destinations or cultural destinations that have an inscription WHS. This research has the goal of analysing the different groups of tourists who visit a cultural destination with an inscription WHS, specifically the city of Granada (Spain). For this, segmentation was performed, studying the socio-demographic profile of the tourists and their assessment of the attributes of this destination. For the tourist segmentation, two models have been followed. Four different groups of tourists were found: alternative, cultural, emotional and heritage. In this last one, the relationship between curiosity about the culture of the tourist destination and the heritage visited has a determining role. This study makes an important contribution to the literature regarding the links between the tourist and the historic and monumental heritage they visit and their tourist behaviour.

Abstract:
Abstract Yahya Kemal and Nizar Qabbani were two poets who served as diplomats in Spain in the past century on behalf of the governments of Turkey and Syria. Yahya Kemal wrote two poems about Spain, “Dance in Andalusia “ and “Coffee Shop in Madrid”. “Dance in Andalusia,” a poem written about the Flamenco dance, has become very famous. In this poem, he described the traditional dance of the Spanish people and emphasized the place of this dance in their lives and the fun-loving lives of the people of Spain. In almost all of the poems which Nizar Qabbani wrote about Spain, on the other hand, a feeling of sadness rather than joy prevails. He gives a deep sigh in his poems as he regards Andalusia as the one-time land of his ancestors. His most important poem with respect to Spain is the poem entitled “Granada”. This poem is considered to be one of the most significant odes in the Arab literature describing Granada, the pearl of Andalusia, Arab influences there, the Alhambra palace and the sadness felt due to the loss of the city by Arabs. This study analyzes the two most important poems written by Yahya Kemal and Nizar Qabbani concerning Spain, namely “Dance in Andalusia” and “Granada”. Whenever it is deemed appropriate, other poems of the two poets regarding Spain will be dwelt upon and what kind of an influence Andalusia left in their emotional world will be revealed.

Abstract. Sports events contribute to create a new image of the host country by attracting visitors, spectators, and media attention. Literature suggests that these events could be categorized as services. Research also shows a direct correlation between the level of satisfaction of actors attending these events and, for example, the economic revenue obtained by the host city. For that reason, it is critical to measure what the most valued aspects or elements are for those attending such events. Measuring sports events attendees’ level of satisfaction is usually done through a self-administered survey that measures service quality by using the Eventqual scale, as well as perceived value and other attitudinal variables. Experience worldwide with this kind of surveys show that respondents’ segmentation (age, gender, socio-economic group, spending patterns, etc.) are key to determine their perceived level of satisfaction. The objective of the present study was to analyse the satisfaction of crowd, referees, volunteers and athletes attending the University Games 2015 that took place in Granada (Spain), with results showing a high level of satisfaction.

Palabras clave: Poesía popular; ciudad letrada; literatura colonial; reapropiación; hibridez**********************************************************************Projecting the voice of the people. Political poetry of popular appearance in Nueva Granada (1717-1822) AbstractThe critique tends to study, in a differentiated manner, the two main strands of colonial poetry in Spanish: educated and popular poetry. In the present article we propose the existence of a hybrid production, written by members of the “Ciudad letrada”, who use resources from the popular tradition to get a greater dissemination of their political message. In the five poems studied, we find multiple possibilities for these intersections, from the re-appropiation of a traditional melody to the use of educated forms attributed to indigenes. In the conclusion, we emphasize how this approach may result interesting in the study of other regions and times.Key words: Popular poetry, literate city, colonial literature, re-appropiation, hibridization. **********************************************************************Impostando a voz do povo. Abstract:
Abstract The objective of this article is to extract certain general consequences about social and linguistic-pragmatic conditions in the expression of subject personal pronouns (SPPs) in contemporary urban Spanish. The study examines some of the results obtained in Valencia and Granada, Spain; Mexico City, Mexico; San Juan, Puerto Rico; Caracas, Venezuela; Bogotá and Medellín, Colombia; and Montevideo, Uruguay. These works have all analyzed data from the “Project for the Sociolinguistic Study of Spanish in Spain and America” (PRESEEA), thus they all share data collected under very similar circumstances (Moreno Fernández 1996; Cestero Mancera 2012). The presence or the absence of pronominal subjects in Spanish is required in certain contexts, but in most cases they are considered optional. This optionality depends on fixed factors of linguistic nature (such as the grammatical person and number of the subject, or the co-reference between the subject and a previous element) and of social nature (such as age or gender), and on random factors (such as individuals and verbal pieces). The hypotheses to be tested are: (a) there is geographical variation among the cities studied, which is reflected in the rates of overt SPPs (Otheguy & Zentella 2012; Carvalho, Orozco & Shin 2015); (b) social variation is relatively small within each city; (c) the fixed and random linguistic-pragmatic variation is intense within each city and similar among cities; (d) the most relevant factors that activate overt SPPs are related to adequate information management of the anaphoric chains and textual coherence.

Abstract:
Through an Arts-Based Educational Research (ABER) methodology, we explore the urban perceptions of fourth-year university students from the School of Education at the University of Granada (Spain). ABER methodologies provide a subtle, representative and sensitive approach to the urban experience. In this study, we surveyed 130 students, asking them to draw and cut out a city map of Granada. This was done in order to reveal the known boundaries of the city and to identify the parts yet to be discovered by the students. With these answers as collected data, an ABER analysis was carried out through the production of visual media. Assessing findings quantitatively and visually allowed for the further investigation of students’ knowledge of the city. This inquiry questions the role of the graphic map in research and the boundaries between its technical and artistic values. These findings validate the use of ABER instruments to investigate the city and enhance understanding of the way students live the urban life.

Abstract:
Abstract: This article deals with the fact of the religious diversity in the city of Granada, from its conquest by the Catholic King and Queen in 1492 up to now, and going through the different historical stages, with and anthropological perspective. Once Granada was definitely conquered, a progressive christianization of the city and its Kingdom was carried out. Post-renaissance Granada, in the baroque period, has population markedly christianized, although the inquisitorial work is still remarkable. This panorama extends all along the XVIII century, when some foreing travellers, many of them protestans, began to visit the city, as many of the travellers in the XIX century. In the XX century, specially in the second half, it will take place a greater arrival of foreign religions which will be attractive for people to convert to them. However, this time, it will not be a forced but a voluntary conversion, thus creating a more plural image of the city.

Abstract:
In the course of a systematic search in the “Technical Museum” of Vienna for instruments of astronomical importance, a Moorish astrolabe with Cufic lettering was discovered by the present author. Being labelled as “sun-moon-dial” its correct function had not been recognized before or forgotten. The device came into the museum’s possession in April 1937 through exchange with a theodolite from the Jesuit College at Kalksburg where the astrolabe had been kept after it remained in Vienna during one of the two Turkish sieges of the city (probably in 1683). The brass instrument has a diameter of 15,7 cm and is well equipped with 8 ṣafīḥas ( = tympans). Its conservation state is rather good, even the original red and gold ‘ilāqa ( = cord) is in place. The specimen is of undated planispheric northern type (shamālī musattah). It shows the typical small kursī ( = throne) of occidental instruments, cast in one piece with the ḥajra (= limb) and umm ( = mater) forming the main body of the astrolabe. This fact sets it apart from instruments of European origin where the kursī sometimes was fastened with screws to the main body (W. Morley, reprinted in R. Gunther, 1976).

Mega-sport events create a new image of the host country, attracting viewers and the media (Santo, 2005; Cornelissen and Swart, 2006). The economic impact of an event can be defined as the net economic change in the host country that derives from the expenditure attributed to the event (Crompton, 1995). Since one of the most important benefits are the permanent benefits in the city (Witt, 1988) as the improvement of the facilities or the image of the country. In relation to the tourism of a big event there is a moderate increase of the internal business tourism in a city during the development of the event (OECD, 2012). Thus, the city increases its investment potential and commercial activity (Avison Young, 2003). This paper presents a mobility monitoring system, based on the detection of Bluetooth and WiFi signals emitted by personal portable devices. The work also describes its possibilities of tracking in two real scenarios, one inside the Spanish city of Granada, and another one in a highway between Granada and Málaga, both with several detection nodes. They have been deployed trying to solve one of the most difficult issues in the city, namely the automatic and accurate hourly monitoring of traffic, in order to synchronise the traffic lights, for instance. Moreover, their deployment in a highway might be very useful for other traffic issues, such as computing the average speed in a section of the road. Thus, this system could be used as a tool for smart city and smart traffic. In the experiments, the datasets gathered by the system nodes are analysed, yielding useful information for the automatic detection of rush hours, the identification of traffic flows and computing speed rates.

Abstract:
The aim of the present research was to present the typologies of foreign tourists in the city of Granada, Spain, based on their emotional perception and interest in culture using different fieldwork methods. The main obtained results determine four segments of tourists: cultural, alternative, heritage, and emotional. The results also show that, in addition to cultural reasons, tourists presented other types of attractions that encouraged them to visit the city. Regarding the satisfaction variable, the obtained results show that satisfaction increased when cultural reasons had a strong influence on the tourists’ choice of destination. This research contributes to identifying the characteristics of the different visitor segments, with the aim of designing tourist and cultural products that can more efficiently satisfy their needs. This will have a positive impact on the economic development of the city of Granada with an increase in tourist spending, which will lead to an increase in employment and urban development.

Abstract:
Abstract Exceptional circumstances in the city of Granada due to the COVID-19 lockdown have provided the opportunity to characterise the impact of humans on its urban acoustic climate. Traditional environmental noise management and urban sound planning usually take into account noise sources in the city, such as industrial activities or road traffic noise, in model estimations, as well as in empirical research. But trying to isolate human impact by itself, human activity including social activity, walking, talking or just going around the city, has always been a difficult or even impossible task. The COVID-19 lockdown measures have provided the opportunity to study urban climate as never before, affected just by natural or animal noise sources. Previous soundscape research at some iconic sites in the city of Granada carried out in 2019 before the lockdown and a special measuring campaign carried out at the same locations during the lockdown in 2020 offered valuable information on sound levels and local characteristics in order to carry out this comparison. Results show a great change in environmental noise levels that is interesting not only because of its magnitude, but also for its implications, especially at those sites where social human activity was an identifying characteristic. Natural or animal sounds became surprisingly evident at some study sites, especially where road traffic noise dramatically decreased, leading to significantly lower background noise levels. Important spectral changes are observed before and during the lockdown, suggesting a shift from anthropic to animal sources in the acoustic environment.

Abstract. The diversion of natural river courses and subsequent filling by alluvial deposits or anthropic intervention has been hidden by urban development in the majority of the cities. The research we conducted involved monitoring the evolution of a river course and reconnaissance of the original morphology of the fluvial systems. Our research was applied to the section of the River Beiro that flows through the city of Granada, Spain. The research has been carried out using geo-technical methodology based on reconnaissance via dynamic penetration. This allowed us to determine the different degrees of consolidation and compaction in the areas corresponding with the former course of the river, which are now filled by alluvial deposits. In addition, we have backed up our findings with information provided by historical maps of the city of Granada. The results have identified an area wherein buildings are at risk, as evidenced by the detrimental effects registered in the buildings in this area.

SUMMARYA total of 181 samples of irrigation water from the farmlands of Granada were examined for the presence ofSalmonellaspp. At the same time 849 samples of the crops from these farmlands and of vegetables sold in city market-places were studied. Sampling was done regularly over the period of study which ran from March 1981 to February 1983. Isolates from these sources were compared with 93 salmonellas isolated from human pathological material at various hospitals of the city of Granada from 1979–80, and again from 1981–3.The most commonly isolated serotypes of human origin wereS. typhimuriumandS. enteritidis. In irrigation waters and in crops,S. typhimurium, S. kapemba, S. londonandS. blockleywere found to be the most common. The results indicate a close relationship between the isolates from the irrigation waters and those from the vegetables, but their relationship to prevalent human infections is less clear.

Abstract:
Irving's politically pious persona in The Chronicle of the Conquest of Granada (1829), "Fray Agapida," indicts Irving's own exemplification of the postcolonial American literary sanctification of discovery, conquest, and colonization presented in The Life and Voyages of Columbus (1828). Through his satire of Agapida, Irving undermines the nationalistic and religious grounds upon which both the Conquest of Granada was most often justified and his biography of Columbus was commissioned to further. Irving links the reconquest of Moorish Granada, Columbus's voyages, the Inquisition, and the Crusades to Irving's satire of contemporary acts of literary, mercantile, and political imperialism in A History of New York. Instead of being a writer absorbed in his own romantic fantasies, in The Chronicle Irving attacks the casuistic use of religion, nobility, and enlightenment to sanctify conquest and usurpation. The conflict indicated by Irving's satire of self- and nation-fashioning reflects many of the United State's own struggles to establish a postcolonial identity.

Abstract:
The application of the ecosystem services (ES) framework in landscape planning has become particularly relevant in rural-urban gradients since it allows for the integration of the complex interactions between ES supply and demand. This framework might be a powerful tool to inform landscape planning and decision-making intended to maintain the current and future flow of ES. In this study, we developed a process of participatory mapping of ES in a rural-urban gradient in southern Spain, which comprises the Sierra Nevada mountain range, the Granada valley and the city of Granada. First, we interviewed 21 key stakeholders from different professional sectors and gradient zones. These stakeholders prioritised nine ES in terms of their importance for local human well-being and their vulnerability to current drivers of change. Then, a workshop was organised in which 23 local actors shared their experience and knowledge regarding ES in the studied landscape. Sorted into five groups (composed of stakeholders with different profiles), the participants spatially mapped the most important supply and demand areas for the nine ES previously prioritised. The results show that the city of Granada has a very high demand for ES and a very low supply, while the Sierra Nevada mountain range and the valley of Granada appear to be very important ES supply areas. According to 95% of the stakeholders that attended the workshop, participatory mapping of ES is a very important (69%) or an important (26%) methodology to elicit the views and perceptions of the population, to identify the main conflicts and potential solutions for the territory and to visualise the high dependence of urban areas on the ES provided by adjacent rural areas. Our results also highlight the importance of incorporating the analysis of ES flows to inform landscape planning at the regional scale. Participatory mapping of ES can enhance decision-making regarding the maintenance of human well-being and the sustainability of social-ecological systems.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This work addresses the vital trajectory of the main leader of the revolt of the Comuneros in Baza: a singular personality, who during his life used two names interchangeably. This character developed an important military trajectory during the frontier era, the conquest of the Kingdom of Granada and the military actions in Northern Africa, as well as a notable social and institutional relevance in the city of Baza. We also analyse and transcribe his last will, granted immediately before being executed by order of the marquis of Mondéjar, captain general of Granada, who placated the revolt. Lastly, we follow the historical footprint that this character left, which was manipulated both by his family - who transmutated him into the bastard son of an aristocrat - and his detractors - who turned him into a simple miscreant.

Abstract:
<p>Cities are living entities that change almost daily but its people are aware of it. They forget the state before the great changes and people become accustomed to the new urban image. In a hundred years a city can completely change its appearance and even its essence. This is the case of Granada, where its historic center was heavily modified during the nineteenth century. These changes have been studied by a project analyzing and virtually rebuilding the historic city. The work ranges from the Rey Chico, below the Alhambra palace, to Puerta Real, restoring the image of the city around 1831, based on the engravings and descriptions of romantic travelers, on the previous alignments and transformations in old pictures.</p>

Abstract:
The built environment influences and promotes cycling that has now become a challenge for sustainable urban mobility in many cities where this mode of transport carries little weight. This is the case for Granada (Spain), a medium-sized city in southern Europe, which as a university city and with lots of green areas, could find potential supportive factors to promote cycling. Website-apps with a Global Positioning System (GPS), such as Ciclogreen that encourage active accessibility try to promote cycling and are supported by the University of Granada. The aim of this work is to assess the capacity of green areas and some influential factors of their built environment to attract cycling routes. To this end, a spatial analysis was made and interpreted by a statistical model to check the correlation between these factors and a high number of cycling routes through or near the green areas. The results show a high number of cycling routes within urban surroundings that include green areas, cycle lanes, university facilities, and public car parks in proximity relationships. Identifying synergies among these urban factors and the information and incentive coming from a digital catalyst in shape on an app could be useful in urban planning for cycling.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTThis article analyzes the social construction of a public space, located in the city of Granada and frequented mainly by young people: the “botellódromo”. The main sources and tools of the research were the bibliographic and hemerographic survey and interviews with the regulars. The results indicate that the Spanish media highlight the most negative and sometimes “criminalizing” aspects of the activity. On the other hand, for the young people, attendance at this place means a ritual of passage to adulthood and university life, through leisure. Keywords: public space; youth; “bottellódromo”.
