By using adaptation theory and Linda Hutcheon’s depiction of adapters in the process of adaptation as “first interpreters and then creators” (18), this article argues how the original Sherlock Holmes illustrations, penciled most notably by Sidney Paget, are both a canonical element of the Holmes legacy and themselves an adaptation. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Granada was a kingdom of silk. Silk work formed the basis of the Granadan economy, determined Granada's place in Mediterranean trade networks, and determined the rhythms of daily life for people in Granada's cities and its countryside. Until recently, such plays have suffered a lack of critical attention, possibly due to their complicated theological focus. The period from 1960 to 2000 saw a major evolution in monetary policy and institutions. This dissertation makes the claim that there is a better explanation of these events than the typical narrative, or dominant discourse.
