Experimental investigation of creep feed grinding of ceramics and their advanced composites is described. Among silicon carbide, zirconia, alumina and silicon nitride, the latter was found to be the most difficult to grind ceramic. Fibre-reinforced silicon nitride was ground in three directions to the fibre. It is shown that grinding normal to the fibre direction required the highest grinding power. However, this was still half of the power required for pure silicon nitride. By contrast, silicon nitride that was reinforced with silicon carbide whiskers required considerably more energy to be g

AbstractThe issue of grinding saponite–titanium composites has not been considered in the machine building industry yet. The reason is that the chips are stuck on the working surfaces of abrasive tools made of silicon carbide and electrocorundum. This is due to the high adhesive activity at operating cutting temperatures between the composite and traditional abrasives. The article aims at studying the grinding of saponite–titanium composites using abrasive tools in various cutting modes based on parametric and non-parametric statistical methods. To solve this problem, high porous wheels (HPW) ma

Results of grinding zirconia using wheels with fine grain size SiC and dense vitreous bond are presented. Wheel wear results demonstrated that this type of SiC wheel could grind fully and partially stabilized zirconia (PSZ) very effectively. X-ray diffraction was used to analyze the percentage of monoclinic phase in the PSZ base material, ground surface, and debris. As expected, due to the stress- and temperature-induced phase transformation during grinding, the percentage of monoclinic phase on the ground surface was increased relative to the base material. However, X-ray diffraction showed n

A new type of zeolite-based covalent organic frameworks (ZCOFs) was designed under different topologies and linkers. In this study, the silicon atoms in zeolite structures were replaced by carbon atoms in thiophene, furan, and pyrrole linkers. Through the adoption of this strategy, 300 ZCOFs structures were constructed and simulated. Overall, the specific surface area of ZCOFs is in the range of 300–3500 m2/g, whereas the pore size is distributed from 3 to 27 Å. Furthermore, the pore volume exhibits a wide range between 0.01 and 1.5 cm3/g. Screening 300 ZCOFs with the criteria towards methane

According to Gartner the $1B image sensor market will grow to $2.3B by 2013. Image sensor packaging technologies are increasingly required to deliver greater reliability within smaller form factors. Tessera's OptiML™ Micro Via Pad (MVP) wafer-level packaging technology is in production on 200mm wafers. This paper will report on the first joint activity that scales this technology to 300mm.

It is within this context that a significant expansion of the satellite Internet industry is taking place, bringing grand visions of social and economic growth through connectivity. Previously dismissed as a limited technology due to high operating costs and latency, as well as the failure of early ventures like Teledesic, satellite Internet has re-emerged in recent years as a viable alternative to the time and energy-intensive practice of laying thousands

The C fibers were dispersed with dispersants into a solvent mixture firstly and then mixed with SiC slurry to make green Csf/SiC tapes.
