Structural and floristic features of the rainforest-eucalypt forest boundary are described for two sites on the seasonally clouded eastern slopes of the Herberton Highland, north Queensland. Permanent sample plots, transects and canopy profiles were used to analyse variations across the narrow ecotone. The forest ecotone was found highly variable, spatially and temporally. To mitigate erosion after fire, land managers often seed non-native grasses onto burned slopes. To assess how post-fire seeding affects plant recovery, we compared areas that were either unseeded or artificially seeded after high-intensity fire in a dry Abies grandis (Dougl.) Banksia grandis is a major understorey component of the jarrah forest and is a refuge of the soil fungus Phytophthora cinnamomi which kills many native plant species and threatens timber production. This paper presents data on the rate of growth of the lignotuber, shoot and stem of B. grandis. Length of the seedling lignotuber increased 0.23 cm year-1 over 3 years, that of saplings and trees increased 0.44 cm yea-1. Este artículo analiza el caso de la desnacionalización de la empresa Alpargatas, ocurrida en 1999. se concluye que la interrupción en el acceso a crédito local e internacional, la recesión doméstica e internacional y la agudización de la competencia en los años finales de la década cumplieron un papel determinante en la extranjerización. Heat content with and without ash was measured for foliage of three interior Pacific Northwest conifers (Pinus ponderosa, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and Abies grandis/concolor) in five locations in Oregon and Washington. Heat content with ash did not vary by species (20.47–20.59 MJ kg–1), but ash content did vary, so that heat content without ash varied by species.
