Abstract:
This dissertation includes three separate studies of related waveguide grating phenomena. These studies deal with a numerical improvement of the integral method of diffraction grating theory, the theoretical analysis of waveguide gratings, and fabrication techniques for photoresist grating masks. The first topic addresses the acceleration of the convergence of the integral kernels. To improve the performance of the integral method for calculating diffraction grating efficiencies, the convergence of the integral kernels is studied. However, owing to the inherent nature of their asymmetric properties, these PBSs have small field of incident angle and are in huge volume. In order to overcome this shortage, subwavelength grating is used to design a planar PBS with high efficiency and wide field of incident angle. Subwavelength gratings can be treated as uniaxial media with large birefringence. Moreover, the birefring

In this thesis, the blazed grating equation and the aspheric polynomial formula of this optical diffractive element are derived, and then the resolution mainly caused by the size of entrance slit, the capability of grating dispersion, surface aberration are discussed. With a suitable size of the entrance slit and a higher diffraction order blazed function, this di

For simplifying the fabrication and operation of multiwavelength laser arrays, we designed a new type of laser arrays where the two SGDBR mirrors of each laser in an array are fabricated on waveguides of different thicknesses. The laser array can generate multiwavelength output by simply operating each laser with a single electrode. We analyze the performance of the laser arrays and optimize the sampling duty cycle and difference in the reflection peak spacings bet

The polymer with nice elasticity and the piston like diaphragm are applied respectively to sensor constructions to achieve high measuring sensitivity. In the proposed fiber grating pressure sensor with cylindrical polymer, an axial stretched strain on fiber grating is induced by radial hydrostatic pressure around the sensor. This sensor is combining with an integrated structure and can be applied to the liquid filled with sediments and benthos. In the sensor

In this paper, the design of sensors is mainly to sense the displacement. FBG is easily to have misjudgements in sensor value due to the influence of the external environment temperature, so we designed temperature insensitive to make the measured value is more correct. The method of reaching temperature insensitive, the FBG with original single period has been designed
