Abstract:
Background:Diagnostic confusion between thyroid disease and myasthenia gravis (MG) can arise because the two may have similar clinical features, and also because of the more frequent coexistence of these autoimmune disorders in the same individual. In MG, autoantibodies directed against the acetylcholine receptor result in muscle weakness. Thymic pathology is well recognized in MG, with thymic hyperplasia frequent in early onset MG and thymoma more common in later onset MG. In Graves’ disease, autoantibodies against thyroid antigens result in hyperthyroidism. A seldom-recognized feature of Gra

Chest CT imaging during her assessment showed anterior mediastinal mass/enlarged thymus indicative of thymic hyperplasia. INTRODUCTIONMyasthenia gravis is a rare autoimmune neuromuscular disease. Rarer still is the combination of myasthenia gravis and Graves’ disease, especially so in the paediatrics population, bringing to mind Hickam’s Dictum. However, considering that both diseases are antibody-mediated, it should not be surprising to find them occurring simultaneously. Of more concern, though, is the effect these diseases have on each other’s natural progression, and the challenges in managing them. Indeed, it has been observed that concurrent myasthenia gravis worsens hyperthyroidism, and improved thyroid fu

Graves' disease is one of the most common autoimmune diseases. The disease is named after the scientist Robert James Graves, who first described it in the 19th century as a syndrome with an enlarged and overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism due to circulating autoantibodies), rapid heart rate, and eye abnormalities. graves’ disease is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism and affects more women than men. Graves’ disease can appear at any age, but it most commonly appears for the first time between the ages of 20 and 40. Factor is a predisposition that is more dominant than environmental

Graves’ disease (GD) is an antibody-mediated autoimmune disease caused by thyroid stimulating antibodies (TSAbs) activating the thyrotropin receptor (TSHR). Both genetic and environmental factors contribute to pathogenesis and one such factor is the infectious agent, Yersinia enterocolitica. Two high affinity TSAbs, (KSAbl, lgG2t>/K; KSAb2, IgGaa/K), developed from an experimental murine model of GD, share common germline Ig genes and thus are derived from the same precursor B cell clone which diversified through somatic hypermutation. The shared germline genes were expressed as recombinant (r

Abstract Hematopoietic stem cell [HSC] therapy has its origins as hematological rescue following marrow ablative high-dose therapy for refractory cancers and myelodysplastic syndromes. In its simplest form, bone marrow is collected from a tissue-matched related normal donor and intravenously infused into the patient who has usually received high-dose chemo/radiotherapy for his or her disease. The stem cells migrate to the marrow spaces, where they multiply and differentiate to restore blood cell-forming activity and immune defenses in the recipient Restrictions in the availability of tissue-ma

Although it is a rare disease, it has great consequences. Hyperthyroidism can result in weight loss, decreased concentration, and school performance, and may even consequently lead to a thyroid storm. Since it is an uncommon disease, there is little research about Graves’ disease, especially about parents’ knowledge regarding the disease.
