The historiography of Suvorov's Italian campaign includes a wide range of studies in different languages. The first publications on this topic came from the pen of contemporaries of those events already in 1799-1800. At the same time, two main trends in their coverage were formed, which exist to this day. The first is to consider the events of 1799 through the prism of Suvorov's military biography. His role in them is recognized by many historians from different countries as the most significant, although many other famous generals from both the allied and French armies participated in the cam

The Monastery of Saint Ignatios, also called Moni Leimonos (meaning "Monastery of the meadow" in Greek) on the Greek island of Lesbos, not far from the small town of Kalloni, was founded in 1526 by Saint Ignatios Agallianos. It was presumably erected on the remains of a Byzantine monastery which was abandoned around 1462, when the island was taken by the Ottomans. There is no evidence, however, regarding its history, apart from references by Saint Ignatios in his Testament (Typikon), who mentions that the Monastery was built on an existing foundation and with his own expenses ("εκ παλαιών θεμε

This study seeks to disprove the reasons offered by previous scholars for the emergence of the first German grammar for the English, the High Dutch Minerva (1680), by considering biographical material on the author of this grammar, Martin Aedler (1643 - 1724), and placing the author and his work in their German and English social context. It operates on the hypothesis that Aedler, a native of Saxony, published his grammar in England for the use of the English intellectual  lite, but did so essentially to satisfy the patriotic imperatives of the German intelligentsia; namely, members of t

This thesis is a study of the works of the historian Flodoard of Rheims (893/4–966), author of two substantial prose narratives (Annales and Historia Remensis ecclesiae) and an epic verse history (De triumphis Christi). Flodoard is the only major Frankish chronicler of his day, so his accounts of the political history of the West Frankish, Ottonian and Italian kingdoms are of paramount importance to modern scholars. Flodoard's Annales have been considered a reliable and neutral account of contemporary affairs, so historians have been content to mine them for ‘facts' informing wider debates con
