Abstract:
Several myths prevail regarding family-based caregiving in migrant groups from non-English-speaking backgrounds (NESB): i) a low need for formal services because of extensive family networks (i.e. informal assistance); ii) NESB groups prefer to 'look after their own' to a greater extent than do Anglo-Australian communities; and iii) caregiving is a 'natural' role for women in migrant families. In 1995 a survey was undertaken of 150 care-giving families in the Australian Greek community in Melbourne, identified from the register of the Australian Greek Welfare Society (AGWS), matched by age and

A questionnaire survey of 665 members of the Chinese, Italian, German, Greek, Arabic aild Anglo Australian communities investigated community expectations for women with physical disabilities. Germans' attitudes resembled those of the Anglo mainstream culture but other communities differed significantly in the following ways: women with disabilities were described as less likely to work, marry, have children, be socially active or live indepeildently. Most communities expected them to experience greater shame, be more withdrawn, less cheerful and less optimistic than did Anglo Australians. The

Abstract:
This study examined to what extent ethnic group differences in young adults' individualistic-collectivistic orientations could be attributed to their parents' socialization orientations. Data were collected from 320 21-yr.-olds and their parents from Anglo-, Greek-, and Italian-Australian families as part of a longitudinal investigation. The findings indicated that the relations between parents' and young adults' individualistic-collectivistic orientations differed for women and men and varied among ethnic groups.

Abstract:
This article adopts a microanalytic approach to examine storytelling as a co-construction by family members in a Cypriot-Australian family. Previous studies on family storytelling have focused on the various roles of family members in storytelling with a means of studying family socialization (Miller et al., 1990; Ochs & Taylor, 1992; Blum-Kulka, 1997). These studies used critical discourse analysis, sociocultural theories, performance and pragmatic approaches to storytelling. This article offers a distinctive approach to family storytelling by examining the discourse and social identities

Despite its remote location from the major theatre of operations, Australia participated in the war siding with the Anti-German Coalition from the outbreak of World War II up to its end. For Australia World War II began on September 3rd, 1939. A million of Australian men and women fought against Germany in 19391945. Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to study the attitudes, practices and knowledge of Greek women in Perth, Western Australia, regarding cervical cancer screening. This is important because no study has yet examined the cervical screening pattern of this group, despite their low participation rate in screening programs. Qualitative semi-structured interviews among 15 Greek women in Perth were used for data collection. Interviews were conducted both in English and Greek. Eight out of the 15 women interviewed did not participate in frequent screening and many had had only one Pap test in their life.

The centuries-old campaign to liberate other animals has been buoyed by the ingenuity of several generations of dedicated women, often with explicit recognition that women and other animals share many interlocking injustices. With nonhuman animals used and abused in a variety of completely legal institutions and nonhumans themselves rendered legal property, many of the women advocating on their behalf necessarily interrogated the legality of speciesism through extra-institutional protest.
