Abstract:
Color had a correlation with physical appearance, nutritional and chemical content as well as sensory properties which determine the quality of agricultural products and foods. Conventional color measurements were performed destructively using laboratory equipment. Therefore, color measurement methods of agricultural products were needed more quickly, accurately and non-destructively. This study aimed to develop a Computer Vision System (CVS) that can be used as a tool to measure the color of fruits. The designed CVS consists of a 60x60x60 cm black mini photo studio; a pair 15 watt LED lighting, sony α6000 digital camera, a set of laptop and an image processing software applications. Image processing software was programmed using VB.Net 2008 programming language. The developed CVS was calibrated using 24 color charts Macbeth Colorchecker (Gretag-Macbeth, USA). The calibration results of 24 color chart of Macbeth Colorchecker was resulted in a MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Error) value of component R / Red = 0%; G / Green = 0% and B / Blue = 0,5%; with 99% accuracy rate. In color measurement, the developed CVS had a 95% accuracy rate.

Abstract:
The current study deals with the extraction of natural dye from Bombax malabarica flowers, readily available by-product. Dye was extracted under different operating conditions such as time (60–90 min), temperature (90–95 °C), and pH 9. The dyed samples were subjected to CIELAB system using Gretag Macbeth Color Eye 7000A Spectrophotometer for the evaluation of color strength and L*a*b* C and H values. To improve the dye uptake and color fastness, pre and postmordanting was carried out using alum, tannic, and tartaric acid mordants. Dyed silk fabrics were tested for its color fastness when subjected to light, washing, and rubbing. Fastness properties of dyed silk fabric samples were found considerably good. Mordanted silk fabric samples showed increase in dye uptake resulting in high color strength and better fastness properties. The dyed silk samples displayed good antimicrobial activity (reduction rate: 48%) against the bacteria Escherichia coli and (reduction rate: 55%) against Staphylococcus aureus.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Hojabri, Niloofar, Dalia Kaisarly, and Karl-Heinz Kunzelmann. "Adhesion and whitening effects of P11-4 self-assembling peptide and HAP suspension on bovine enamel." Clinical Oral Investigations, October 27, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s00784-020-03654-1.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Objectives This study evaluated the adhesion and whitening effects of a combination of P11-4 self-assembling peptide and hydroxyapatite (peptide-HAP) on bovine enamel. Methods Forty-six caries-free bovine teeth were selected, and 40 teeth were randomly allocated to one of five groups (n = 8). First, the effects of application frequency, exposure time, and storage in saliva on the whitening effects of an experimental low-concentrated peptide-HAP suspension (0.5 wt% HAP; Curodont, Credentis) were evaluated and compared with a commercial bleaching agent (VivaStyle Paint on Plus, VS, Ivoclar Vivadent). Tooth color was measured using a spectrophotometer (Gretag MacBeth), and color changes ΔE were statistically analyzed. Second, the effects of peptide-HAP concentration (low versus high: 6.25% HAP; Curodont Protect), and its interactions with saliva and postapplication restaining, were investigated. Third, enamel surfaces (n = 2) were treated with low concentration peptide-HAP and high-concentration peptide-HAP in polymeric and monomeric forms (Curodont Protect & Curodont Repair, Credentis) and analyzed by SEM. Results The ΔE of the low-concentration peptide-HAP suspension did not differ from that of VS. Application frequency, exposure time, and storage in saliva did not have any significant impact on whitening efficacy of the peptide-HAP suspension. Increasing the concentration of the suspension did not promote overall ΔE. SEM observations confirmed the presence of the newly generated peptide and HAP on the enamel surface. Conclusions The peptide-HAP suspension is a mild tooth whitener, and the adhesion of peptide-HAP to enamel is concentration dependent. Clinical relevance This peptide-HAP suspension is effective in offsetting discoloration caused by restaining after treatment.

Abstract:
This chapter talks about Polish critic Jan Kott's Shakespeare Our Contemporary of 1964, in which he noted that William Shakespeare's Histories are representing cycles of horror whereby a route to kingship is only through crimes. It points out how the cycle is inevitable to all people since everyone is trapped in a great machine, the engine of history. It also analyses Roman Polanski's Macbeth as a product of a disillusion with the 1960s countercultural idealism and the expression of a youthful anger at the collective lack of will for social change. The chapter looks at the concept of franchise, the twentieth-century phenomenon whereby a new-minted concept of the horror genre is continued in a series of sequels. It explores the ending of Macbeth and the promise it creates of an emotional resonance in the audience rather than just an intellectual one.

Abstract:
Chapter 2 focuses on Harlem Carnival activities from the late 1920s through the 1940s. The stories of the early dance orchestras led by the Trinidad expatriate Gerald Clark, and those of New York-based calypsonians Wilmoth Houdini, Cecil “Duke of Iron” Anderson, Sir Lancelot Pinard, and Patrick “MacBeth the Great” MacDonald, are recounted. Their recording careers and performances in Harlem dance halls and downtown Village clubs are explored. The rise of Harlem’s Carnival parade coincided with an upsurge in interest in calypso music by non-Caribbean white and black Americans that culminated in the “calypso craze” of the 1950s. The dance orchestras, calypsonians, and steelband players who provided the music were constantly seeking to broaden their audiences by crossing over into new cultural arenas. This chapter looks at the host of Caribbean-themed dances and calypso performances that were popular in Harlem’s clubs and dance halls from the mid-1930s through the 1950s, and to the calypso shows that proliferated in midtown concert halls and downtown clubs during this period.

Abstract:
The word aphrodisiac comes from the name of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of sexual love, fertility, and beauty. An aphrodisiac is any drug that arouses the sexual instinct. Throughout recorded history, humans have gone to great lengths in pursuing enhancement of sexual activity and desire. In Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream (II, i), Oberon begged for the love potion:… Fetch me that flower; the herb I show’d thee once: The juice of it on sleeping eyelid laid Will make a man or woman madly dote Upon the next live creature that it sees… Perhaps the best-known aphrodisiac is alcohol, which was recognized thousands of years ago for its possible aphrodisiac properties. Shakespeare described the effect of liquor through the porter in Macbeth (II, iii):… Lechery, Sir, it provokes, and unprovokes; It provokes the desire, But it takes away the performance. Therefore much drink may be said to be an equivocator with lechery; It makes him, and it mars him; It sets him on, and it takes him off; It persuades him, and disheartens him; Makes him stand to, and not stand to; In conclusion, equivocates him in a sleep, and, Giving him the lie, leaves him…. Aphrodisiacs are not a mere recreational curiosity in medicine; they may genuinely help some patients on antidepressants who suffer decreased libido as a side effect. According to the mechanisms of action, libido lifters can be divided into seven categories:… 1. Serotonin antagonists: cyproheptadine and granisetron 2. Adrenergic antagonists: yohimbine and trazodone 3. Cholinergic agonists: bethanechol chloride 4. Dopamine-enhancing drugs: bupropion, amantadine, and bromocriptine 5. Autoreceptor agonists: buspirone and pindolol 6. Stimulants: amphetamine, methylphenidate, and ephedrine 7. Herbals: ginkgo biloba and L-arginine… Aphrodisiacs can be obtained from plants and animals or made through chemical synthesis. Although many aphrodisiacs have not been rigorously proven effective in clinical trials, in reality, a psychological boost is likely enough to help, because many sexual problems are “in the mind” anyway.
