Full textDespite its high prevalence, pain is poorly understood and is, therefore, ignored or inadequately cared for seniors with mild neurocognitive disorder (MNCD) in long-term care (LTC) (Savoie, Misson, & Verreault, 2012). The under-detection of pain can be the result of many factors. This project specifically focuses on the role of pain screening tools. One of the validated and recognized instruments for screening patients with MNCD is the Pain Assessment Checklist for Seniors with Limited Ability to Communicate (PACSLAC) (Fuchs-Lacelle & Hadjistravopoulos, 2004). Its French version, the PACSLAC-F, has been validated and recommended by Centre d’excellence sur le vieillissement de Québec (CEVQ)’s mentoring team to be use in LTC (Aubin et al., 2008). As reported by them, the PACSLAC-F has helped to improve the ability of caregivers to detect pain, promote communication and value their work. These caregivers, however, mentioned the large number of items included in the tool and the imprecision of some behaviors they had to observe. Having obtained the same results in Saskatchewan, Fuchs-Lacelle and Hadjistravopoulos (2004) validated a shortened version of the tool named PACSLAC-II (Chan, Hadjistravopoulos, Williams & Lints-Martindale, 2014). According to these authors, this shorter version (from 60 to 31 items) demonstrates a greater ability to differentiate pain than any other tool, including the original PACSLAC. The purpose of this study is to validate the French version of the PACSLAC-II to offer a more efficient tool for French nursing practice. Test-retest and interobserver fidelity, convergence validity, internal consistency and clinical utility of the PACSLAC-II-F were measured in 83 older adults with MNCD in LTC. The Pearson correlation (r <.0001) demonstrated a strong relationship between the two versions, with a score of 0.61, and also for the test-retest, with a result of 0.71. These results suggest that the use of PACSLAC-II-F could be considered in LTC in Quebec.

Full textThe objective of this thesis is to observe and analyze the interaction between students with autism, educational software and teachers in learning situations of reading and writing. Explore how students with autism can interact with educational software in the presence of teachers is very important, especially to understand how to better focus their attention. Then, we must study the evolution of student behaviour and know the teachers intervention methods, promoting or not the changes in these behaviours. To analyze the modes of interaction that are set up between three agents (a teacher, a student with autism and educational software), we defined “observable” that may be collected during the study phases in each of the agents and selected tools to collect real-time information (Digital Pen and Camtasia software). We also synchronized multiple data sources. The information collected and synchronized and traces of activities were then treated to provide visual forms summarized activities and calculate various indicators. These analyses were confronted with experts in autism, for interpretation and teachers to better take into account their own behaviour. To conduct this work, first, we participated in the project ANR RobAutiSTIC around a playful interaction between children with autism, therapist following an experimental protocol and a robot. In this project, we developed the first gestures lists to observe, record, encode and performed the first analysis with the Elan software. This work was implemented in the classroom where were present autistic students, teachers and educational software, in learning situations. We have adapted it for the grids used in RobAutiSTIC project, the situation of learning with educational software. We conducted preliminary observations in classrooms as well as a detailed analysis of educational software to identify potential interactions and classify the exercises in a complex indicator. We followed five sessions with a total of eleven students. Data analysis allowed us to identify the most frequent gestures, sequences, etc. The association between the coding of gestures, recording the sequence of screens software and dialogues between the teacher and the student has to do a didactic analysis of interactions in the context of the educational theory of action. We have seen the purpose modes of interaction between student and teacher autistic, also the special characteristics of the interaction student-software given the level of complexity of each year and the level of socio-communicative development of students with autism. Finally, teachers often intervene in order to give the right answer to the student through the pointing screen and verbal interaction. On the one hand, this work paves the way for the observation and analysis of the interaction with autism students (between themselves) and on the other hand, for the analysis of the uses of educational softwares

Full textSince 2002, the European Union (EU) Members States collect, manage and supply data forthe management of fisheries and specifically of discards. In this context, at-sea observer programmes collect data on-board fishing vessels on the composition and quantity of catch, including discards. Based on these data, this study aims to analyse the spatio-temporal distribution of landings and discards so as to contribute to their management. In doing so, amapping method based on nested grids has been developed. This method has been designed to produce pluriannual, annual and quarterly maps of landings and discards per species or group of species according to the fishing metier.A platform based on Big Data technologies has then been used with the objectives of refining and automating the mapping method. Using an online storage system and a high-performance computing system, a large number of maps were produced automatically per métier, grouping or not years, quarters and species. Finally, the usefulness of the produced maps for managing discards has been demonstrated, particularly regarding the Landing Obligation (Regulation (UE) n° 1380/2013). Based on fleet cost and revenue data, these maps open up possibilities for identifying fishing zones and/or periods to be avoided (i.e., high bycatch) while minimising the impacts on fleet’s economic performances

Full textIn this thesis, we propose a class of methods to represent spatial observation error correlations numerically in variational data assimilation. Based on the existing link between solutions of the time-implicit diffusion equation and Matérn correlation functions, we design correlation operators and inverse correlation operators that are appropriate for large datasets. Discretizing the diffusion equation with the finite element method allows us to account for data that do not necessarily lie on a structured mesh, as is the case with satellite observations assimilated in meteorology. Experiments are carried out using data from the infrared imager Seviri, the images of which are known for containing strong horizontal correlations. We show that the quality of our correlation model may depend locally on the spatial distribution of the observations. Nevertheless, by introducing an auxiliary mesh to perform the finite element computations, we can control this dependency to a large extent. Improving the accuracy of the method this way comes at the expense of making the inverse correlation operator more complicated. Finally, strategies for efficiently modelling the inverse of the correlation operator are proposed

Full textThe aim of this thesis was to set up an algorithm for processing LIDAR data (LIght Detection And Ranging). LIDARs of the Doppler and aerosol type were mainly used. The measurements of these measuring devices are obtained in such a way that only an observation grid is in fact available. However, it is desired to have information about the atmosphere which is a continuous medium. We used multi-resolution analysis methods to place ourselves in a mathematical framework corresponding to the physical problem. We have thus obtained a division of the space of evolution of the process into two orthogonal subspaces, imposed by the structure of the observations. We were able to extend the theory of nonlinear ltering in this framework. For this we used the filter kernels of Feynman-Kac type. We had to resume the calculations and formulate hypotheses consistent with the physical problem in order to obtain results of convergence similar to those of the classical theory. We then returned to the frame suitable for particle filters. We developed different algorithms based on the theoretical results obtained. Different applications of our method allowed us to highlight the fact that we could, to some extent, find parameters smaller than the resolution given by the grid. Finally, we set up a theoretical framework as well as an algorithm for processing LIDAR Doppler and aerosol data. We were able to verify that our estimates were refined by the addition of passive tracers
