Abstract:
We are witnessing environmental degradation on a massive scale. Popular reactions to the devastation of our natural surroundings are a ubiquitous image in newscasts everywhere, and yet nations and institutions seem unable to cohere around programs to stop the looming disaster. American author John Grisham, an attorney by profession, elaborates on this issue in his novel The Appeal (2008). Grisham meticulously describes the human tragedy of a degrading bio-region and provides insights into the gradual process of contemporary environmental litigation. Grisham provides a panoramic view on the lives of people in Cary County, the place where a corporate toxic waste dump has caused massive groundwater pollution. The use of polluted drinking water destroys many lives and creates the worst cancer cluster in history. Plaintiff Jeannette Baker, along with her suffering neighbours, seeks justice through legal means against the corporate companies for the loss of life caused by corporate interests. The author makes us witnesses to the long judicial process that gathers a motley group of people with conflicting interests: victims, local authorities, and corporation representatives. They come together to analyse and acknowledge their role in the process of environmental devastation.

The aim of the reseach is to elaborate the use of the imagery in the novel: The Client. Starting from the definition of Imagery, the imagery found in the novel, then to find out what John Grisham’s - as the writer of the novel - intention to use imagery in his novel. The objectives of analysis is to have some knowledge deeper about the use of imagery in The Client by John Grisham and how he takes the readers into Mark Sway’s traumatic experience and how he helps the readers understand Mark Sway’s position through imagery found. This study adopts library research (Library Research) which contains an in-depth collection of material on one or several subjects (Young, 1983; p. 188). This study covers the inclusion of primary sources as well as secondary sources. There are 5 types of imagery found in The Client. They are Visual Imagery, Auditory Imagery, Internal Sensation Imagery, Olfactory Imagery and Tactile Imagery.

Abstract:
The language of fiction is probably not the most dynamically but still changing. These new trends in collacability are of a great interest to us. The definition of collocation is present in the text; the authors also distinguish the concepts of collocation and lexical function. This article will discuss the trends considered in synchrony and diachrony, which were highlighted on the material of John Grisham “Gray Mountain”, which is relatively new English-language material (2014), and a bit dated J. D. Salinger “Nine Stories” (1953 ) to track trends and their development in the language. 150 examples were reviewed and analyzed. 5 trends were highlighted on a given case. The authors use dictionaries, linguistic search on the Internet, the COCA (Grisham and Salinger are both from the USA). The authors conclude that the trends that have been considered are the most frequent for the language of fiction and deserve the attention of the researchers due to their productivity. The reasons why stable word combinations change: the emergence of new realities and the need for a new nomination and (which is more typical for the prose) the search for the new forms of self-expression of the writers.

Abstract:
The paper addresses the analysis of the lexis used for verbalization of lawyer’s professional activity described by John Grisham in his work “Rogue Lawyer.” The words used for lawyer’s professional activity are approached as uniform corpus of nominative units. The paper focuses on the corpus content and the research of functional peculiarities of its nominative units is offered. The approach to classification of the lexical corpus used by the author for description of lawyer’s professional activity is based on content-analysis procedure. The latter presupposes the fracturing of lexical corpus into specific categories differentiated according to part of speech they belong to. The researched corpus of lexical units contains nominal, verbal, and adjectival / adverbial / participial categories. The obtained data point at their definite mode to explicate the semantic characteristics and the functional potential of each lexical unit analysed. As the result it was determined that the distribution of the units within the corpus of lexis adheres to the principle of functional-semantic field and their smaller fragments – micro functional-semantic fields. Thus, it is inspected that the corpus of lexis used by John Grisham in his book “Rogue Lawyer” splits into four functional-semantic fields: “Lawyer,” “Client,” “Trial,” and “Tools,” which involve the smaller components − micro functional-semantic fields.

Abstract:
This research aimed to obtain a deep depiction of self-actualization on the main character in Ford County the stories written by Grisham This research is a study of the psychology of literature, which is analyzed objectively by using the psychological theory of humanistic. The research refers to the combination between motivation theory of Maslow especially in Hierarchy of human needs and the concept of self-actualization by Rogers. In data analysis techniques, qualitative data in the form of expressions, utterances and occasions are needed through the content analysis method and analyzed through a structural literature approach based on the concept of literary theory. The focus of the study is self-actualization of the main characters, which can be observed from the seven short stories of Ford County. The focus of the study then would be divided into sub-focuses, which tends to the hierarchy of human needs, they are physiological needs, safety needs, love needs, self-esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. Another sub-focus is the concept of self-actualization’s achievement in forms of openness for experience, personal existence, strong belief, freedom, and creativity. The result of the research indicates that the main characters of the stories like Rogers, in Blood Drive, and Mack in Fish Files have D-Motivation in their Self-Actualization. Then the main characters of the stories like Raymond in Fetching Raymond, Sidney in Casino, Stanley in Michael Room, Gilbert in Quite Heaven and in Adrian Funny Boy, reflects B-Motivation in their own self-actualization.

Abstract:
To ascertain whether the daily hazard risk rate for committing suicide by psychiatric outpatients stabilizes over time, a parametric survival analysis was calculated for the 6,891 outpatients who were followed by Brown, Beck, Steer, and Grisham. Approximately 3¼ years after a patient's initial evaluation, the daily hazard rate leveled off and dropped below the hazard rate that would occur if a constant (exponential) daily hazard rate were assumed. The cost-effectiveness of conducting follow-up studies to identify suicidal risk factors in psychiatric outpatients beyond three years was questioned.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study presents the results of the Personality Beliefs Questionnaire (PBQ-BPD; Butler, Brown, Beck, & Grisham, 2002) adaptation in the Russian-speaking sample of 608 people. The initial three-factorial structure of PBQ-BPD in the sample of 543 Internet users is confirmed. It is shown that 14 items form three factors: relating respectively to distrust (reflects the belief connected with expectation of exploitation and treachery), dependency (it is shown in the belief connected with feeling of helplessness without continued support) and protection (belief that one should act preemptively to avoid threat). The PBQ-SF scales showed good reliability and correlated significantly with psychopathological manifestations on SCL-90-R scale. Internal coherence and split reliability of the scale were checked in the sample of 608 people, and made up 0,893 and 0,784 respectively. Test-retest reliability of the questionnaire was established in group of 30 people and made up 0,754.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the origins of modern English vocabulary and shows the relevance of the influence of French on its modern state. The article makes a survey of scientific literature studying French heritage in English lexis. An overview of linguistic and historical data is provided to show the framework within which linguistic borrowing from French was made possible. A number of loanwords are mentioned that appeared under different historical circumstances. The article analyses borrowed words that kept their meaning they had in French, as well as those ones which experienced semantic transformation. The paper concentrates on the fact that frequency of English words having French roots is high enough in the novel by J. Grisham and they form a thick layer of common words. The article demonstrates, what kind of impact the change in culture-specific concepts had on the meaning of the words borrowed from French and highlights possible prospects of such kind of studies. The paper emphasizes semantic layers of loan words and shows that finance vocabulary, the vocabulary of law and politics and the vocabulary of health are closely connected with borrowings from French.

Abstract:
Abstract The Texas Seismological Network (TexNet) has enabled real-time monitoring of induced earthquakes since 2017. Before 2017, location uncertainties and temporal gaps in seismic data obscure correlations across Texas between seismicity and saltwater disposal or hydraulic fracturing. Depth biases also complicate linking anthropogenic stress changes to faults. We relocate 73 M 1.5+ earthquakes from the TXAR catalog (2009–2016) relative to the centroid of a calibrated core cluster consisting of 116 earthquakes from the TexNet catalog post-2020, in the southern Delaware basin south of the Grisham fault zone. Hypocentroidal decomposition relocation reduces spatial uncertainties of the TXAR events to <5 km and provides updated depths. The core cluster has uncertainties less than <300 m and depth constrained from near-source stations and S−P differential times. The majority of relocated TXAR events indicate the triggering of northwest-trending faults at a mean depth of 1 km below sea level, suggesting a causal connection with shallow saltwater disposal and consistency with post-2017 seismicity. Spatiotemporal patterns of pre-2017 seismicity and saltwater disposal highlight initial triggering via pore-pressure stress perturbations from nearby low-volume injections and later from southeastward pressure diffusion along permeable anisotropic conduits and fracture zones. The comparison between pre- and post-2017 seismicity indicates shallow fault reactivation through similar triggering mechanisms since 2009.

Abstract:
INTRODUCTION: Pilots’ mental health has received increased attention following Germanwings Flight 9525 in 2015, where the copilot intentionally crashed the aircraft into the French Alps, killing all on board. An investigation of this incident found that the pilot had a depressive disorder.METHODS: This systematic review investigated peer reviewed studies of pilot mental health published since 1980. A total of 58 papers were identified.RESULTS: Two main methodologies have been employed: questionnaires and database record searches. Anxiety, depression, and suicide were the most commonly investigated mental health conditions. There were almost an equal number of studies that found a higher prevalence of psychological symptoms in pilots as those that found a lower prevalence, relative to controls or the general population. Prevalence rates were higher in studies relying solely on questionnaires than in studies employing database record searches.DISCUSSION: Prevalence estimates are closely associated with methodology, so it is difficult to determine the true rate. Factors that might account for low prevalence estimates include under-reporting of symptoms by pilots and a reluctance to diagnose on the part of health professionals. Factors that might account for high prevalence estimates include anonymous assessment, the use of questionnaires that do not align with clinical disorders, and inconsistent cut-off scores. It is recommended that future studies on prevalence use well-validated clinical measures, and that more research be conducted on the effects of particular disorders on job performance.Ackland CA, Molesworth BRC, Grisham JR, Lovibond PF. Abstract:
The article explores the concept of emotionality and compares it with the concept of “expressiveness”. It was found that emotionality is complex and it synthesizes qualitative psychological, literary and linguistic characteristics. It is concluded that it is expedient to use the concept of emotionally – expressive vocabulary (coloring) to express both the reason for the formation of emotion and the consequence that comes from it. Emphasis is placed on another important part of the emotional vocabulary – evaluative statements that have a certain illocutionary power, designed for a very specific perlocutionary effect, and evaluation is passed through the human emotional sphere of the psyche. Different ways of expressing emotional vocabulary are described, and the most emotional vocabulary is divided into five main groups: emotives – nominatives, emotives – associatives, emotives – expressives, occasional emotives, neutral emotives. In addition, the research focuses on exclamations and phraseology, as the most effective way to convey the full range of emotions (highlighted phrases that describe the state of despair, sadness, dissatisfaction, indignation; phraseological units that characterize joy). The role of different parts of speech is described and the cause-consequential connection with emotionality is indicated. The dominant role of synonyms and artistic paths in the transmission of a positive spectrum of emotions is reflected. The peculiarity of phraseological units, which are the semantic centers of macro- and microtext, is revealed and examples of their application for the translation of emotions and feelings from the English-language artistic discourse are given.

Abstract:
Inhibition of nitric oxide (NO) synthesis using N G-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-NAME) or N G-monomethyl-l-arginine (l-NMMA) increases venular permeability in the rat mesentery (I. Kurose, R. Wolf, M. B. Grisham, T. Y. Aw, R. D. Specian, and D. N. Granger. Circ. Res. 76: 30–39, 1995), but the cellular mechanisms of this response are not known. This study was performed to determine whether such venular leaks are associated with changes in the endothelial actin cytoskeleton. In anesthetized Sprague-Dawley rats, the microvasculature of a mesenteric window was perfused with buffered saline, with or without 10−5M l-NAME,l-NMMA, or the inactive enantiomer N G-nitro-d-arginine methyl ester for 3 or 30 min. FITC-albumin was added to the perfusate for the last 3 min. The vasculature was perfusion fixed, stained for filamentous actin and for mast cells, and viewed microscopically. In control preparations, venules showed few FITC-albumin leaks and the endothelial actin cytoskeleton consisted of a peripheral rim along the cell-cell junctions. Preparations treated withl-NAME orl-NMMA showed significantly more leakage, the actin rims in leaky venules were discontinuous, and short, randomly oriented fibers appeared within the cells. In nonleaky venules, the peripheral actin rims sometimes contained small, equally spaced discontinuities not seen in control preparations. Although a mast cell stabilizer was used, 27–70% of the mast cells were degranulated in the presence ofl-NMMA. Thus inhibition of NO synthesis alters the endothelial cytoskeleton and increases albumin leakage from mesenteric venules, either directly or indirectly via the involvement of mast cells.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Most current seismicity in the southern U.S. midcontinent is related to oil and gas operations (O&G Ops). In Texas, although recorded earthquakes are of low-to-moderate magnitude, the rate of seismicity has been increasing since 2009. Because of the newly developed Texas Seismological Network, in most parts of Texas, recent seismicity is reported on a daily basis with a magnitude of completeness of ML 1.5. Also, funded research has allowed the collection of O&G Op information that can be associated with seismicity. Although in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, recent seismicity has been associated mostly with saltwater disposal (SWD), in the South Delaware Basin, West Texas, both hydraulic fracturing (HF) and SWD have been found to be causal factors. We have begun to establish an O&G Op database using four different sources—IHS, FracFocus, B3, and the Railroad Commission of Texas—with which we can associate recent seismicity to HF and SWD. Our approach is based on time and epicentral location of seismic events and time, location of HF, and SWD. Most seismicity occurs in areas of dense HF and SWD-well activity overlapping in time, making association of seismicity with a specific well type impossible. However, through examination of clustered seismicity in space and time, along with isolated clusters of spatiotemporal association between seismicity and O&G Ops, we are able to show that a causation between HF and seismicity may be favored over causation with SWD wells in areas of spatially isolated earthquake clusters (Toyah South, Reeves West, Jeff Davis Northeast, and Jeff Davis East). Causality between SWD and seismicity may be inferred for isolated cases in Reeves South and Grisham West.

Abstract:
Acute lung injury can be a complication of hemorrhagic shock. Mechanisms of injury include neutrophil-derived inflammatory products that induce necrosis within the lung. Recent data has shown apoptosis, in addition to necrosis, as a pathway leading toward acute lung injury in shock models. This study quantitates apoptotic and necrotic cells in the lung after hemorrhagic shock. Mongrel pigs (20–30 kg) under general anesthesia (with pancuronium and pentobarbital) underwent instrumentation with placement of carotid and external jugular catheters. The animals were randomized to sham hemorrhage (n = 6) and to hemorrhagic shock (n = 7). The hemorrhagic shock group then underwent hemorrhage (40–45% blood volume) to a systolic blood pressure of 40–50 mm Hg for 1 hour. The animals were then resuscitated with shed blood plus crystalloid to normalization of heart rate and blood pressure. The animals were observed under general anesthesia for 6 hours after resuscitation, then sacrificed, and lungs were harvested. Lung injury parameters including histology (H&E stain), apoptosis [terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL)], and myeloperioxidase activity (spectrophotometric assay) were assessed. Hemorrhagic shock induced marked loss of lung architecture, neutrophil infiltration, alveolar septal thickening, hemorrhage, and edema in H&E staining. Furthermore, MPO activity, a marker for neutrophil infiltration and activation, was more than doubled as compared to controls (44.0 vs 20.0 Grisham units activity/g). Apoptosis (cell shrinkage, membrane blebbing, apoptotic bodies) and necrosis (cellular swelling, membrane lysis) in neutrophils, macrophages, as well as in alveolar cells was demonstrated and quantified by H&E staining use. Apoptosis was confirmed and further quantified by positive TUNEL signaling via digital semiquantitative analysis, which revealed a significant increase in apoptotic cells (16.0 vs 2.5 cells/hpf, shock vs control, respectively) and necrotic cells (16.0 vs 2.0 cells/hpf, shock vs control, respectively). Acute lung injury is a complex pathophysiologic process. Apoptosis in cells (neutrophils, macrophages, alveolar cells) is induced within the lung after hemorrhagic shock. The role of apoptosis in pulmonary dysfunction after hemorrhagic shock has yet to be determined.

Abstract:
Nowadays the growing professional orientation of all the aspects of foreign language teaching is widely recognized as one of the major trends in the process of enhancing foreign languages curriculum at higher education institutions which specialize in training non-linguistic students majoring in various fields of international relations. Professionally oriented foreign language teaching implies using the foreign language classroom as a source of forming a wide range of professionally meaningful competences (both linguistic and non-linguistic) of would-be specialists along with developing their sense of professional identity. Despite the fact that professional identity - usually interpreted as individuals' perception of themselves as members of a certain profession - is the culmination of a long process of professional development, its cultivation with future specialists should be seen as a priority as early as at a higher education level - a college or university. Referring to psychological research, the author states that emotional factors play a decisive role in shaping professional identity at early stages of a person's professional development. It reveals the importance of analyzing the potential of literary texts in a foreign language in terms of their ability to contribute to developing prospective specialists' professional identity, as such texts represent a valuable text material which provokes readers' powerful emotional response and thus triggers empathy. The novel "The Firm" byJ. Grisham and "The Headhunter" byj. Mead were selected by the author for the home reading classroom with would-be economists, as coupled with a competence-based learning aid they allow teachers to create a unique discourse, which facilitates the process of developing students' professional competences and their professional identity. Along with their clear professional content, they appeal to students, as the problems raised in them are relevant to those of young readers. Such emotional contact provokes empathy, or a feeling of compassion and sympathy, which contributes to tackling the above pedagogical tasks. According to the author, empathy as a means of developing professional identity is realized through students' analyzing and assessing the professional behaviour of literary characters and their identifying themselves with protagonists or distancing from antagonists guided by professional criteria. It is essential that reading the above novels enrich would-be economists with the knowledge and experience, though non-empiric, of various business situations. The author concludes that such information about the profession in question is likely to prove valuable, as it "has been digested" by students by identifying their moral and professional attitude to it.

Abstract:
During a disease inspection at the sugarcane estate SUCAF near Franceville, Gabon, in March 2011, 1- to 3-mm wide and several dm long dark red stripes were observed on sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) leaves of many plants of cultivar R570. These plants were 5.5 months old in the first ratoon crop. Additionally, spindle leaves of several stalks were rotted and could be easily pulled out of the top of the stalk. Longitudinal sections of diseased stalks showed reddish-brown discoloration of the upper stem and the rotted spindle had an unpleasant odor. Circular, convex, smooth, yellow-cream pigmented bacterial colonies with 2 to 3 mm diameter were isolated after 3 days at 28°C from young leaf lesions on YPGA (yeast extract 7 g/L, peptone 7 g/L, glucose 7 g/L, agar 15 g/L, pH 6.8 to 7.0). The 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer (ITS) of two representative colonies was PCR amplified, and the nucleotide sequences were shown to be 99% identical to the 16S-23S ITS sequence from the genome of Acidovorax avenae subsp. avenae strain ATCC 19860 (GenBank: CP002521.1). One of these A. avenae subsp. avenae isolates from Gabon was inoculated into greenhouse grown plants of sugarcane cultivar R570. Plants were inoculated by injection into the sheath of spindle leaves above the meristem with the bacterial strain (12 plants) or with a water control (six plants). In this method, the bacteria (108 CFU/ml) were injected using a syringe through the leaf sheath until filling the leaf whorl. Three weeks post-inoculation, one to several cm long red-brown stripes were observed on leaves of 11 of 12 inoculated plants. Seven weeks post-inoculation, all plants exhibited symptoms, from red, brown, or black stripes to leaf necrosis, rotting, and death of the spindle leaves (six plants). All six control plants were symptomless. In a second experiment, 6 of 12 plants showed symptoms 3 weeks post inoculation, and the pathogen was successfully re-isolated from all six symptomatic plants with YPGA medium. The 16S-23S ITS of three single colonies obtained each from different symptomatic plants were PCR amplified and the nucleotide sequences were again found 99% identical to the 16S-23S ITS sequence from the genome of A. avenae subsp. avenae ATCC 19860. To our knowledge, this is the first report of A. avenae subsp. avenae, the causal agent of sugarcane red stripe (also reported as top rot), in Gabon. It is also the first description of the occurrence of the top rot form of the disease in R570, a cultivar that is grown in several locations of Africa, the Mascarene Islands, and the French West Indies. A large-scale survey needs to be undertaken to determine the distribution of red stripe in Gabon, a disease for which several outbreaks have been reported recently worldwide (1,2). References: (1) M. Abstract:
Abstract Selective glucocorticoid receptor (GR) modulators (SGRMs) represent a clinically validated mechanism of enhancing chemosensitivity and ameliorating the sequelae of hypercortisolism. While GRs reportedly control the expression of up to 20% of the human genome, specific targets of systemic GR antagonism in humans have yet to be identified. To address this question, we established a robust NanoString assay to measure candidate GR target genes in human blood and assessed them before and after therapy with the oral SGRM relacorilant, which selectively antagonizes the GR. In a randomized, controlled phase 2 study in patients with recurrent, platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (NCT03776812), gene changes were assessed in 139 patients after treatment with relacorilant + nab-paclitaxel (NP) or NP alone. Using cross-validated random forest methods, a gene panel that accurately identified patients who had received relacorilant was established (ROC AUC 0.945 +/- 0.038). In 13 patients who crossed over from NP alone to relacorilant + NP, the genes in the panel were modified only after crossover (paired t-test P=0.0003), validating the gene panel’s ability to detect GR activity. The 4 most induced (LILRB4, FPR3, CLEC10A, CCR2) and 4 most suppressed (CDKN1C, TNFRSF17, BRIP1, PDK1) genes by relacorilant + NP vs. NP alone were selected and shown to be reliable indicators of GR activity across clinical studies in patients with pancreatic, prostate, and other solid tumors (NCT04329949, NCT03674814, NCT02762981), independent of concomitant medications or other confounders. CLEC10A (C-type lectin domain containing 10A) was identified as a particularly sensitive marker of GR activity as its expression was strongly suppressed by the GR agonist prednisone in healthy volunteers (paired t-test P<0.00010, NCT03335956) and strongly induced by relacorilant in patients with solid tumors (paired t-test P<0.00010). CLEC10A induction in blood by relacorilant was associated with longer overall survival in patients with ovarian cancer treated with relacorilant + NP (HR=0.39, Cox PH P=0.0135). High baseline tumor CLEC10A expression was also associated with longer overall survival in a large tumor ‘omics’ database (N=1656 ovarian tumors; HR 0.8, log-rank P=0.0008). CLEC10A and the genes correlated with its expression were found to be primarily expressed by a specific subset of dendritic cells, supporting previous reports that GR agonism can suppress dendritic cells. This analysis of CLEC10A and other identified GR target genes confirmed that systemic GR activity in patients with a range of solid tumors can be modulated pharmacologically, indicates that GR modulation may be associated with survival in patients with ovarian cancer, and provides new insights into the systemic functions of the GR in humans. The MGOS (Magnaporthe grisea Oryza sativa) web-based database contains data from Oryza sativa and Magnaporthe grisea interaction experiments in which M. grisea is the fungal pathogen that causes the rice blast disease. In order to study the interactions, a consortium of fungal and rice geneticists was formed to construct a comprehensive set of experiments that would elucidate information about the gene expression of both rice and M. grisea during the infection cycle. These experiments included constructing and sequencing cDNA and robust long-serial analysis gene expression libraries from both host and pathogen during different stages of infection in both resistant and susceptible interactions, generating >50,000 M. grisea mutants and applying them to susceptible rice strains to test for pathogenicity, and constructing a dual O. sativa-M. grisea microarray. MGOS was developed as a central web-based repository for all the experimental data along with the rice and M. grisea genomic sequence. Community-based annotation is available for the M. grisea genes to aid in the study of the interactions.

Abstract:
Abstract BACKGROUND: Although the indusium griseum (IG) is often seen by the neurosurgeon, almost nothing exists in the literature regarding its anatomic structure. Some have postulated that this structure is a remnant of the hippocampus, and some have found memory deficits in patients after callosotomy. OBJECTIVE: To further investigate the anatomy of the IG in humans through gross and histological analysis. METHODS: The IG from 10 adult cadaveric brains underwent microdissection and immunohistochemical analysis. RESULTS: Grossly, the IG was on average 2 cm in width over the body and genu of the corpus callosum (CC) and traveled in intimate contact anteriorly over the lamina terminalis, and posteriorly it was adherent to the splenium of the CC. Histologically, the IG is a thin layer of hypocellular glial tissue interposed between the pia and the CC. Glial cells composed the cellular constituents of the IG, and compared with the underlying CC, the IG was hypomyelinated. The fibers/axons of the IG travel in a perpendicular plane compared with those of the CC, and the IG varied in thickness from one area to the other and was occasionally discontinuous. CONCLUSION: The IG is a glial membrane with no neuronal content or obvious connections to the hippocampus. Based on this study, transection of this membrane with callosotomy should not be the reason for postoperative memory loss seen in some of these patients. Future studies aimed at elucidating the function of the IG in humans are now warranted.

Abstract:
Platycleis grisea is a bush-cricket species distributed on the southern side of the Alps and in Eastern Europe. In Western and Northern Europe P. grisea is replaced by its sister species P. albopunctata, the border between the two taxa in Eastern Europe is unknown. Platycleis grisea and P. albopunctata differ in the shape of the female subgenital plate and the male reproductive organs: titillators, however the differences are vague, and their systemic status is unclear. Historical localities of P. grisea in Poland are Middle Pieniny in the Carpathians and the Ojców National Park in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, more recently it was also recorded from the Wdżar Mountain in the Gorce mountains. In this study P. grisea is reported from four new localities and the morphology of Platycleis from the Carpathians, and the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland is presented. Subgenital plate morphology turns out to be variable, and thus not a reliable trait. Titillators of Platycleis from the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland do not match P. grisea, and titillators of Platycleis from the Carpathians clearly match P. grisea morphology. I conclude that in Poland P. grisea is restricted to the Carpathians and thus the historical record from the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland must considered erroneous.
