The work presented in this paper is to be read within the context of a connected autonomous vehicle (CAV). This context makes it possible to consider dividing the overall operational domain (operational design domain: ODD) of the vehicle into three sub-domains, relating to the areas of comfort (ODD1), road-holding (ODD2), and emergency situations (ODD3). Thus, based on information from the CAV’s proprioceptive and exteroceptive sensors, in addition to information from the infrastructure and other vehicles, supervision makes it possible, at any time, to identify the ODD in which the vehicle is

Abstract:
A novel small embedded long-term evolution/wireless wide area network (LTE/WWAN) antenna integrated with the keyboard ground plane in a laptop computer is presented. The antenna is installed on a notched region (40 × 8 mm2) of the keyboard ground plane at a distance of 10 mm from the laptop computer hinge. A coupled-fed loop antenna was used because of its suitability for integration with the ground plane and achieving wide operating bands. This antenna can not only be configured to have a compact configuration but also be designed to excite several resonant modes of the hinge slot between the

Abstract This study presents the synthesis of dual-Doppler and cloud photography data of the 5 June 2009 Goshen County, Wyoming, tornado observed during the Second Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes Experiment (VORTEX2). Analyses focused on the hook region of the parent supercell. It will be shown that radar-determined tornadogenesis and initial surface wind damage occurred 14 min before the funnel cloud was observed continuously on the ground. In addition to the cyclonic wall cloud, an anticyclonic lowering was also observed on the southern flank of the hook echo near the ti

It is well known that the residual stresses on the ground surface and the subsurface can influence the service quality of a component, such as fatigue life, tribological properties, and distortion. In this paper, an experimental investigation was conducted to determine the effects of grinding force, temperature and grinding conditions, such as grinding speed, workpiece speed and grinding depth, on the surface and in-depth residual stresses distributions induced by grinding of 3J33 maraging steel with the miniature electroplated CBN Wheels. The results show that a ‘hook’ shaped residual stress

High-rise structures are more vulnerable when subjected to lateral loading. Generally, the shear walls function as the main lateral load resistant system in high-rise structures. In the case of high-rise structures with an open ground story, the shear wall-floor slab-deep beam acts together as a rigid jointed frame connection to withstand gravity and lateral force induced by external loadings like earthquakes and wind. The wall-floor slab-deep beam connection will be subjected to a higher concentration of stresses, which is a more vulnerable area in any high-rise structure. Hence, it is necess

This study presents the mix design of VHPC using Indonesian by-product materials to achieve compressive strength of 120 MPa. A sequence experimental method determined the suitable material to replace fine sand, ground quartz and superplasticizer. Then, the optimum mix design was tested with compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, slump flow, permeability, and shrinkage tests. In addition, the effect o

The paper presents an experimental implementation of an optimal-based vibration control for a scaled wind turbine tower-nacelle structure. A laboratory model of the approximate power scale of 340 W, equipped with a nonlinear tuned vibration absorber (TVA), is analysed. For control purposes, a combined operation of a small-scale electric servo drive and a magnetorheological (MR) damper is used in the TVA system. Nonlinearities of both the electric drive and the MR damper are intrinsic parts of the adopted nonlinear control concept. The aim of the research is the simple-hardware real-time implem

The issues of the course stability of the movement of the agricultural tractor aggregate acquire the greatest urgency in the plowing, since an additional unfolding moment arises on the plow (due to the geometry of its working surfaces), which can lead the tractor aside from rectilinear movement. The operator often has to correct the movement of the machine, which contributes to rapid fatigue and, as a result, a decrease in productivity. The development of a mathematical model of the tractor's motion under the influence of an external eccentric load on the hook will allow to determine the limit

Spear, “rogatina”, was an effective tool to hunt bears, elks and wild boars. To stop the attack of a massive animal, people used various devices strengthened on the bushing. On the Seyma-Turbino fork spears found in Western Siberia, the hook located under the nib could also serve as one of the variants of such devices. The initial design flaw of such products was the fork located at the level (or above) of the connection line of the bushing with the nib. This is how the spearheads were modeled in the Rostovka burial ground, as well as in the Pyshminskaya and Priirtyshskaya collections. In the
