This paper makes a faunistic contribution to knowledge of the spider family composition in the experimental research plots of Kasetsart University in Thailand (Kampaeng Saen Campus, Nakhon Pathom province). Spider families were investigated both on the foliage and on the ground in physic nut plantations (Jatropha curcas L.). Ground dwelling spiders were collected by pitfall traps while foliage spiders were sampled by sweeping and hand collecting. In total, 655 spider specimens were collected and identified as belonging to 17 families. The dominant ground dwelling spider families were Lycosidae

Abstract Fire is a natural disturbance that occurs in many temperate and tropical ecosystems worldwide. As ubiquitous members of these ecosystems, spiders (Araneae) are often affected by fire, and their response to this disturbance has been shown to be dependent on taxonomy, functional diversity, seasonality, and a variety of environmental factors. We examined the effect of fire on ground-dwelling spider assemblages in temperate forests in central Indiana over 5 yr and found that spider assemblages were significantly affected by fire disturbance. Second, I determined if diversity patterns varied at the family level. Third, I tested whether climate or vegetation explained spatial variation of diversity. Forests are more than a stand of trees in the landscape. They represent a complex, functional system of interacting and often interdependent biological, physical and chemical components (Kimmins 1997). In the past, complex interactions were increasingly recognized over time as food webs, abiotic processes and biotic feedbacks since then defined as the forest ecosystem. Trees grow in a world of multitrophic interactions (van der Putten et al. 2001). Many outbreaks can be traced to human pathogens that can survive in low moisture content of spices, prompting development of additional inactivation treatments that reduce bacterial pathogens while maintaining spice quality. Spices are currently treated by fumigation with ethylene oxide, pasteurization with ionizing radiation, or steam treatment. However, these treatments exhibit flaws pertaining to consumer preference, regulatory issues, and quality degradation.

Abstract:
Climate determines the vegetation composition in parks, and changes in climate will affect vegetation conditions and composition in the future. This study, which examined changes in climate, water availability, and vegetation from 2000 to 2019 in Golden Spike National Historical Park (NHP) in Utah, USA, evaluates vegetation sensitivity to weather and climate to understand climate–vegetation relationships that can be used to predict what vegetation types may change. Specifically, it evaluates where change is likely in the park, when change may happen, and why change may occur. This information

The popularity of local craft beers in the US is growing, as is the desire for beers made with all-local ingredients. Maryland breweries have been able to use locally grown ingredients, including hops, but have not been able to claim use of a hop native to Maryland. 'Monocacy' hop was discovered in Maryland on a farm that was part of the original Carrollton Manor, once owned by Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, in what was likely a cottage garden between the house and barn. Molecular fingerprinting established it as unique and clustering with hop accessions native t

Microseira wollei (formerly Lyngbya wollei) has grown to noxious densities within Lake St. Clair, located between Lake Erie and Lake Huron. De-spite the limited data on this cyanobacterium within Lake St. Clair, data exists for M. wollei within the Great Lakes region and in the southeastern United States, where water resource managers have been managing growths for decades. These data provide pertinent insights into the environmental distribution, environmental drivers, risks, and management of M. wollei, which is mainly distributed within eastern states and provinces in North America, from Ca

"Amphibians are experiencing declines in populations and extinction of species at a rate far beyond any other group in recent times. In spite of the academic awareness of a possible amphibian crisis and continued vigilance in habitat protection and trade, field biologists continued to document decimated populations, extinctions, and malformations of every variety. This module asks: what's been happening? How is it that the best-protected habitats in the world have failed to protect amphibians within their borders? Abstract:
Oil palm is the most important export crop in Ghana, aside from cocoa. Compared with cocoa, however, oil palm has a more extensive local value chain, including greater opportunity for local industrial and artisanal processing into palm oil and other products, which creates a high potential for employment generation and poverty reduction; as a result oil palm is classified as a priority crop. The selection of oil palm as a priority crop aims to promote agricultural commercialisation through domestic agroindustry development and exports. In spite of this, the oil palm economy has still not achie

The resort to discrimination in the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) region against foreign commercial interests is documented in this paper and compared to aggregate statistics for worldwide policy choice and for a comparator group of developing countries in the Asia Pacific region. LAC protectionism spiked later than in the rest of the world and, on average, the former nations resorted more to traditional protectionist tools than the latter. Within the LAC region, the heavier users of protectionism employed different cocktails of discriminatory policy instruments. An exploratory cross-coun
