My intent is to bring a key group of critical terms associated with the emotions—bitterness, sentimentality, and emotionality—to greater feminist attention. These terms are used to characterize emoters on the basis of how we express ourselves, and they characterize us in ways that we need no longer be taken seriously. I analyze the ways in which these terms of emotional dismissal can be put to powerful political use.

Women living with chronic pain are more likely than men to experience pain dismissal, receive nonspecific diagnostics, receive fewer follow-ups, have their condition undertreated, and be told that it results from a psychological condition. This is particularly concerning for adolescent girls living with scoliosis, who, given the progressive nature of their condition, require timely diagnosis to allow for less invasive treatment options to be explored. This population is also significantly more likely to have their condition progress to a curve angle where treatment such as bracing or spinal fu

Gender bias is a pervasive issue, and group activities that are commonly seen in schools, workplaces, and other environments may be a form in which gender bias is manifested and exacerbated. Therefore, understanding the existence and impact of gender bias in group activities is of great significance for promoting gender equality and justice. This study adopted a mixed-methods research design, integrating both questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews, and explored whether female students feel gender bias in group activity teams, in order to further understand the specific manifestations of

This paper proposes a fresh look at the ‘Dissensions’ that held up scientific business at the Royal Society during the spring of 1784. It focuses attention on the career and personal networks of Charles Hutton, whose dismissal from the role of Foreign Secretary ignited the row. It shows that the incident had no single cause but was the outcome of several factors that made Hutton intolerable to Joseph Banks, President of the Society, and of several factors that made Banks unpopular as President among a group of about 40 otherwise rather disparate Fellows.

In this case study, we report the experiences and reflections of a female trainee sport and exercise psychologist who navigated the dismissal of a management team and COVID-19 in a professional football club. The trainee delivered an educational intervention to a group of 10 players transitioning from a youth academy to the first team at a professional football club. This formed part of a larger organizational intervention to integrate sport psychology into the club. During the delivery, her mode of working changed from face to face to online support (because of the COVID-19 pandemic), and the

In both the patristic and medieval periods Christians thought little of examining Judaism in its own right as they considered it the product of a spiritually blinded people. A more positive approach emerged first with the flowering of scholarship in the Renaissance and then with the Enlightenment dismissal of the idea of divine revelation, which meant that Jews were considered more as a people than as a religious group. More recently, Christian complicity in the Holocaust has jolted churches into rethinking their attitudes to the Jews, though few as yet have seen that this must entail an appra

Estimates show that both policies induce non-negligible transitory employment losses. The strength of these effects varies depending on the underlying industry and labor market structure, and on cyclical conditions: The employment cost of deregulation is higher in economic downturns and negligible in good times. I review and assess the following models of selection: the traditional model of group selection, gene?s eye view, kin selection, direct reciprocity (reciprocal altruism), indirect reciprocity, and the updated version of group selection, namely Sober a
