AbstractDuring the summer of 1982, aerial experimental sprayings were carried out with a new formula of Bacillus thuringiensis named Futura®. This formula provided a treatment of the 20 × 109 IU of B. thuringiensis/ha required for suppression of spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana), in a final volume of 2.5 L/ha. We present results of the calculation of superharmonic normal mode perturbations to the exact nonlinear deep-water capilary wave solution of Crapper (1957). By using the method of Longuet-Higgins (1978a), we are able for the first time to consider all waveheights up to and including the maximum for two-dimensional perturbations. We find agreement with the recent asymptotic analysis of Hogan, Gruman & Stiassnie (1988). Superharmonic instabilities are found at various waveheights less than the maximum.

Abstract:

As the sole builder of nuclear aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy, Northrop Grumman Newport News relies heavily on the 900-metric-ton Goliath gantry crane to assembly the 162 critical "super lifts" that compose a completed carrier structure. Prior to 1999, it was apparent that the 25-year-old crane needed a major overhaul. Abstract:

In this paper we describe the development of a tool that allows shipyard planners to efficiently and effectively plan space within valuable areas of a shipyard. Traditionally, space is considered a resource; however, it is difficult to accurately account for and plan its consumption with the current planning software tools available. The spatial scheduling tool described in this paper can be used by planners and construction management teams to manually or semiautomatically reserve space within the shipyard for construction of large units over the entire ship erection period.
