Abstract:
The opera Mathis der Maler (1935), based on the sixteenth-century German painter Matthias Grünewald, is Paul Hindemith’s most iconic work. Because of its artist protagonist, scholarship on Mathis has traditionally focused on how Hindemith may have used the figure of Grünewald to express his views on aesthetics, the position of the artist in society, and/or his position under the Nazi regime. Little attention has been paid, however, to the cultural significance of Grünewald as a factor behind Hindemith’s choice of topic. This article examines the reception history of Grünewald from his rediscovery in the late nineteenth century through the interwar period in Germany. Drawing on contemporary periodicals and the scholarly literature, I show how the artist became a symbol of German Kultur in the nationalist context of the Franco-Prussian War and the First World War. This symbolic status arguably attracted Hindemith to Grünewald as an operatic subject at the beginning of the Third Reich. Not only did the topic align with National Socialist rhetoric about promoting German art, it also allowed Hindemith to draw parallels between himself and Grünewald, portraying himself and his work as inherently German. Given Hindemith’s determination to avoid controversy in the first tumultuous months of the Nazi regime, I conclude that Mathis represented an accommodation to the rapidly shifting social and political environment.

Abstract:
Abstract Without the contemplation of the Isenheim Altar, Karl Barth would not have achieved a certain theological breakthrough in this radical and precise manner. It can be assumed that his theological linguistic doctrine for the turn from the first to the second version of the Commentary on the Letter to the Romans was promoted by the pictorial contemplation of the Isenheim Altar (caused by the disappointment about his theological teachers). The thesis is that Barth presented his theological metaphor of the ›death line‹ (17 October 1920) in derivation of the ›death wall‹ (17 April 1920) of the closed representation of the altar, which had previously been viewed by Grünewald, so that Barths with his Grünewald reception also and decisively initiated and carried out his theological reorientation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper presents the existence, uniqueness and stability of nonlinear fractional order systems of the Caputa–Katugampola Fractional Differential with delay Riemann−Katugampola in finite time, which takes advantage of the “generalized Grünewald inequality”. Therefore, we propose necessary and sufficient conditions to guarantee the finite time stability of a system of order 0 < α <1 and we provide a basic criterion for the stability of systems. We also provide examples and illustrations that show the relevance of the proposed theory. Moreover, our results indicate that our conclusions are more accurate than the existing literature on stability requirements.

Abstract:
In this paper, we review some new distributed algorithms that construct sparse subgraphs with bounded degree of the unit disk graph efficiently for wireless ad hoc networks. They maintain a linear number of links while still preserving power-efficient routes for any pair of nodes. It was open whether the Yao plus reverse Yao graph and the symmetric Yao graph are spanners. We show that the Yao plus reverse Yao graph has a bounded power stretch factor 2 in civilized unit disk graph. In addition, we review a recent example by M. Grünewald et al. [6] to show that the symmetric Yao graph does not have a constant bounded stretch factor. Finally, we conduct simulations to study the practical performances of these structures. All structures have small power stretch factors for randomly generated unit disk graphs in our experiments.

The article analyzes the phenomenon of catharsis that occurs from the perception of the tragic in art. Based on the eudemonistic understanding of catharsis we trace the cultural and historical aspects of the problem and show that catharsis as an aesthetic and psychological phenomenon that emerged in antiquity in order to facilitate acceptance of the necessity of dying of Self for rebirth into a new life. Using the examples of expressionist paintings and their early origins (M. Grünewald, E. Munch, P. Picasso) we analyze catharsis that occurs in the process of the tragic artworks perception, showing its therapeutic value for the audience (accepting the inevitable and searching for meaning, struggling with despair, resisting chaos, evil, and destruction). We show that the tragic in art, including painting, creates an aesthetic space that penetrates the living space of the subject of artistic perception and creates the possibility of expanding the conceptual horizon and spiritual renewal.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: Myxoid liposarcoma (MLS) is molecularly characterized by a recurrent chromosomal translocation which generates a chimeric FUS-DDIT3 fusion gene. The FUS-DDIT3 oncoprotein, acting as a transcriptional dysregulator, has been shown to be essential in MLS pathogenesis, among others through deregulation of IGF-IR/PI3K/AKT signaling, but its exact mode of function remains incompletely understood. Recently, a particular reliance on the Hippo pathway effector and transcriptional co-regulator YAP1 was found in MLS; however, the molecular mechanism of FUS-DDIT3-dependent YAP1 activation and its contribution to MLS pathogenesis remain unclear. Experimental Procedures: The expression of IGF-IR and YAP1 was analyzed in a large cohort of MLS specimens by immunohistochemistry. In vitro analyses were performed employing a human mesenchymal stem cell system stably expressing FUS-DDIT3 and human MLS cell lines. RNA interference-based approaches, experiments with small-molecule kinase inhibitors, co-immunoprecipitation, proximity ligation assays, transcriptome sequencing and adipogenic differentiation assays were performed to determine the interplay of FUS-DDIT3, IGF-IR-dependent signals, and YAP1 in MLS cells. Results: Immunohistochemically, a significant subset of MLS samples showed concurrent expression of IGF-IR and nuclear YAP1. In vitro, FUS-DDIT3-driven IGF-IR signaling was found to promote stability and nuclear accumulation of YAP1 via deregulation of the Hippo pathway. Co-immunoprecipitation and proximity ligation assays revealed nuclear co-localization of FUS-DDIT3 and YAP1 in FUS-DDIT3-expressing mesenchymal stem cells and MLS cell lines. Transcriptome sequencing of MLS cells demonstrated that FUS-DDIT3 and YAP1 co-regulate specific oncogenic gene signatures related to proliferation, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and adipogenesis. In differentiation assays, FUS-DDIT3 and YAP1 were found to cooperate in adipogenic differentiation arrest. Conclusions: Our study provides molecular insights into a complex FUS-DDIT3-driven network involving IGF-IR signals acting on Hippo/YAP1, and uncovers cooperative effects of YAP1 and FUS-DDIT3 in the pathogenesis of MLS. On average, two hybridization signals were seen in 94.5% of disomic BM cells. The hybridization sensitivity was found to vary, however, both among morphologically defined hematopoietic cell lineages and among differentation levels within a lineage. In the second method, an esterase staining technique was followed by the same treatment as for MGG-stained cells. The esterases and FISH signals could be simultaneously visualized and the method was found suitable for rapid screening of in situ signals in cytochemically defined granulocytes and lymphocytes but not in monocytes. The combined methods proved very useful in elucidating the clinical significance of chromosomal abnormalities seen in two cases of leukemia.

Abstract:
This article reflects on the ways of representing Picasso’s human anatomy in relation to the biopolitical and, above all, thanatopolitical development of fascism during the 1930s and 1940s in Spain and Europe, according to the theoretical proposals of Arendt, Foucault and Esposito. To this end, we have chosen three works: Guernica (1937), Woman Weeping (1937) and The Ossuary (1945), which make up the Malaga painter’s analytical and aesthetic line around his process of deconstructing the human anatomy from a Cubist viewpoint, but, from 1937, with a clearly vindictive function, of international struggle and denunciation against fascism. On the other hand, we have attempted to approach these works by Picasso from the point of view of the plastic art of Grünewald, Bosch, Goya and, much more closely, the painting of the expressionist Otto Dix, that is to say, we have looked at the pictorial tradition that has dealt with the human body, pain and war, in order to establish possible threads linked to Picasso’s work. In this sense, our objective has been to analyze the relationship between totalitarian power and the ways of understanding the representation of the human body, deconstructed anatomy, monstrosity, and collective suffering through the different aesthetic interpretations of Pablo Picasso.
