A new species of Encyonema is described from the benthos of small mountain streams and rivers in western Montana and northern Wyoming. Previously this species had been identified incorrectly as E. hebridicum Grunow ex Cleve and Cymbella affinis Kützing or assigned the provisional name Encyonema sp. 1 MONTANA HAMSHER ANSP. Here we formally recognize this taxon as a new species, Encyonema hamsherae.

This article sheds light on the role diatomic algae in soils play in the assessment of bee farm and nearby territories in four soil and landscape zones in Samarskaya Oblast. The community of diatomic algae is characterized by low species diversity, of which 23 taxons were found. The most often found species are represented by Hantzschia amphioxys (Ehrenberg) Grunow in Cleve & Grunow and Luticola mutica (Kützing) D.G.Mann in Round et al. The maximum of phyla (18) were found in the buffer (transient) zone; in the wooded steppe zone, 11 species were recorded; in the steppe – 2 species, and in

Diatom communities in the lake have an advantage of environmental assessment and paleo reconstruction study, due to the ability of diatom preserved in the sediment. There are only limited studies about taxonomy, ecology, and diversity of diatom flora in tropical areas, especially Indonesia. The main objective of the research is to describe the structure of benthic diatom communities in Pengilon Lake, together with physical chemical variables. Sediment samples were collected at an altitude of more than 2,000 msal habitats with pH around 5.40-6.86. A total of 83 diatom species identified as belo

The results of studying the diatoms in epixylon of 15 water objects in European Northeast of Russia are presented. The samples of nature biofilms from external surfaces of submersed branches of Betula nana, Salix spp., woody snags, and wood debris were investigated. A comparative analysis of diatoms in fouling of woody substrates was carried out from coal-mine settling pond, lakes, streams, and different parts of mountain river. These are in the basins of Ortina, Vorcuta, More-Yu, Vychegda, Izhgma, Shchugor rivers. In stagnant waters diversity of diatoms form 9–56, in waterways 10–102 taxa. En

Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate the diversity of diatom assemblages developed in the Przyrwa stream, to assess water quality based on benthic diatoms and to make an attempt at the identification of physicochemical factors having the greatest impact on the differentiation of diatom assemblages. Studies were conducted in 2011-2012 on the Przyrwa stream, a left-side tributary of the Wisłok River flowing through the city of Rzeszów and with its spring section located on the borders of the city.
